Matt Hoff
Matt Hoff, 73, Bismarck, died Jan. 31, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Matt was born Feb. 20, 1927, in New Salem, the son of Ralph and Anna (Hoff) Hoff. He was raised and educated in New Salem. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1950. On Oct. 28, 1953, he married Agnes Dilger. They moved to Bismarck in October 1955, where they raised their family. He worked for Bridgeman Dairy for 35 years and retired in 1990. Matt was a past member of the Eagles and the Moose, and was a member of the St. Mary's Central High School Booster Club for 46 years. He enjoyed all sports and playing cards. He will always be remembered for playing pinochle and enjoying playing bingo in his later years. Matt enjoyed his grandchildren to the fullest. He was always willing to help anyone. He is survived by his wife, Agnes, Bismarck; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Kim and Marilyn, Oceanside, Calif., Keary Hoff and Verna Hoover, Kirk and Tami, and Ken and Melanni, all of Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Darcy and Terry Hochhalter, Mandan; his grandchildren, Jonathan and Starla Hoff, Kim Jr. and Lesley Hoff, Adam Hermsen, Janell Kempf, Brent Hoff, Andrew and Kaitlyn Hoff, and Corey and Eric Hochhalter; six great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Irma Hoff, Helena, Mont., Harold and Ann Hoff, Center, Ralph and Caretta Hoff, Fargo, and Larry and Bette Hoff, Crookston, Minn.; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Beatrice Zander, Mandan, Margaret and Leander Ternes, Bismarck, and Dorothy and Bernie Bohl, Minot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Anna; two brothers-in-law, Richard Zander and Dallas Jackman; and two sisters-in-law, Hazel Hoff and Clara Brown.

Harriet Huwe
WILLISTON -- Harriet Huwe, 77, Williston, died Feb. 2, 2001, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Doris Krebsbach
MAX -- Doris Krebsbach, 70, Max, died Feb. 2, 2001, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, with the Rev. Hugo Blotsky officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison. A rosary and vigil will be held at 7 p.m. at the church. Doris Ilene Baker was born April 20, 1930, near Coleharbor, the daughter of Henry and Alice (Tower) Baker. She was raised and educated at Hancock School, rural Underwood, and graduated as class salutatorian from Garrison High School in 1948. She taught rural school near Douglas before marrying Francis G. Krebsbach Dec. 28, 1948, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison. Doris was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Max, taught CCD classes and served on the parish council and Altar Society. She currently served as president of the Max Senior Citizens and was a board member of the Garrison Heritage Park Foundation. She served as Snake Creek Township Clerk for many years. She enjoyed many things in life, not the least being quilting, baking, dancing and writing letters. She never missed a birthday, anniversary or sympathy card. She is survived by her husband, Francis; six sons and daughters-in-law, David and Denise, and Arlan and Lisa, all of Minot, Dean and Connie, and John and Shelly, all of Garrison, and Tim and Denise, and Don and Sloan, all of Max; three daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Tom Bennett, Minot, Peggy and Steve Wollmuth, Washburn, and Lynette and John Olson, Max; 20 grandchildren; three sisters, Sylvia Simonson, Port Orchard, Wash., Faye Stein, McClusky, and Betty Dunagan, Cheyenne, Wyo.; and three brothers, Robert, Midland, Mich., Terry, Dallas, and Roger, Rochester, Minn. She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Darrow; and two infant granddaughters.

Ben Lang
ASHLEY -- Ben Lang, 87, Ashley, died Feb. 3, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Ashley Baptist Church. Further arrangements are pending with Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Margret Mehlhoff
GARRISON -- Margret Mehlhoff, 94, Garrison, died Feb. 3, 2001, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison. Further arrangements are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Donald C. Peters
LEMMON, S.D. -- Donald C. Peters, 81, rural Lemmon, died Feb. 2, 2001, at his home. Arrangements are pending with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon.

Alice Sjaastad
MINOT -- Alice Sjaastad, 94, Minot, formerly of Tagus, died Feb. 3, 2001, in a Minot nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. Burial will be held in the spring in Tagus Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Dr. Larry Sjaastad, Chicago; two daughters, Ardyce Evensvold, Tagus, and Bette Jean Asplund, New Carlisle, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Lila Lucy, Billings, Mont. Elizabeth Streifel
ESMOND -- Elizabeth Streifel, 97, Esmond, died Feb. 3, 2001, in a Minot nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Esmond.

Henry J. Van Soest
STRASBURG -- Henry J. Van Soest, 88, Strasburg, died Feb. 2, 2001, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Strasburg Reformed Church, with the Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Strasburg. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and will continue one hour before services at the church. Henry was born Jan. 27, 1913, on a farm southeast of Strasburg, the son of John and Agnes (Nieuwsma) Van Soest. He attended a rural school. As a young man Henry did electrical and mechanical work. On Jan. 14, 1948, he married Nancy Dyk at Strasburg, and they made their home on a farm southeast of Strasburg. In 1990 they retired and moved into Strasburg. Henry was a member of the Strasburg Reformed Church and he served his church as a deacon. He was a former treasurer of Harding School District for a number of years. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Nancy, Strasburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Amaryllis and Leo Feist, Strasburg, and Alice and Michael Smette, Fargo; six grandchildren, Lee, Lisa, Jerry and Jesse Feist, Nathan Huff and Carrie Smette; one brother, Martin, Port Orchard, Wash.; and one sister, Alice Van Beek, Westfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Kerry Lee; and one sister, Anna.

Lloyd Albers
Lloyd Albers, 71, Bismarck, died Feb. 3, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Further arrangements are pending.

John Broxmeyer
John "Brox" Broxmeyer, 71, Bismarck and Riverdale, died Feb. 2, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital after a brief battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Burnie Kunz officiating. John was born June 10, 1929, in Bismarck, the son of John and Irene (Tavis) Broxmeyer. He attended school in Bismarck and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1947. John was very active in sports where he excelled in football and basketball. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1948, where he received an Air Force Commendation Medal. Upon retirement he married Sharon (Boelter) Eslinger on April 7, 1967, in Bismarck. He was an avid fisherman and loved sports. He was known for his cooking abilities and his infamous personality. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Linda Hanson, Hampton, Va., Terry and Ron Grasshoff, Prairie du sac, Wis., Judy Broxmeyer, Des Moines, Iowa, Gayle and John Miller, and Jodi and Earl Hathaway, all of Bismarck, and Terry and Scott Marvin, Denver; one son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Renee Eslinger, Bismarck; nine grandchildren, Michael Hanson, Rusty Hanson, Nicole Eslinger, Ashley Eslinger, Cori Miller, Dustin Miller, Kayse Hathaway, Maura Grasshoff and Ian Grasshoff; two sisters, Lois Becker and Eileen Lehmann, both of Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Walt and Delores, Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Alena Broxmeyer, Bismarck; one brother-in-law and his wife, Steve and Karen Boelter, Bismarck; and his special friend, John Kronberger. John was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Charles. In lieu of flwers, the family prefers memorials to the HELP Center of Masonic Temple, Bismarck.

Henry E. Hermanson
Henry E. "Hank" Hermanson, 85, Mandan, died Feb. 3, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Charles Axness officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan, with military rites by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 707 and American Legion Post 40. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Henry was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Mandan, one of 11 children born to Alfred C. and Mabel (Hendrickson) Hermanson. Raised and educated in Mandan, he began his employment with the Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroad in 1930. He married Barbara Seigel on Aug. 14, 1937. He entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 12, 1942, and served with the First Calvary Division in the South Pacific Theater. He was awarded several citations, including the Bronze Star for his actions during the Liberation of the Philippines. He was also aboard the U.S.S. Missouri during the Japanese surrender ceremonies and was part of the occupation force on the mainland. Hank returned to the United States on Oct. 9, 1945, and continued his employment with the railroad. Retiring after 32 years of service, he and Barbara spent most of their retirement years traveling the United States. Barbara died on April 3, 1994. A member of the American Legion Post 40 and of Bismarck-Mandan Elks 1199, Hank had been a resident of the Karrington in Bismarck since early last year. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and John Wirtz, Mandan; one brother and five sisters-in-law, John and Donna, Mandan, Rose Hermanson, Maggie Hermanson and Helen Hermanson, all of Washington state, and Vernon Hermanson, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Andrew and Jeanette Kupper, Mandan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; five brothers, Alton, Harold, Vernon, Melvin and Walter; and three sisters, Stella Knudson, Vivian Helbling and Lenora Wahl.

Harriet Huwe
WILLISTON -- Harriet Huwe, 77, Williston, died Feb. 2, 2001, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Hillside Memory Gardens, Williston. She is survived by her husband, Lowell; five sons, Ronald, Snohomish, Wash., Gaylen, Williston, Kendall, Portland, Ore., Verlyn, Minot, and Shelly, Minot; two daughters, Sherry Clavette, Casselton, and Angela Schnaible, Oxford, Miss.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lester Johnson
WILLISTON -- Lester Johnson, 74, Williston, died Feb. 3, 2001, in a Williston care center. Arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Donald E. Kitt
Donald E. "Don" Kitt, 68, formerly of Oliver County, died Jan. 30, 2001, in a Billings, Mont. hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Mark Phillips officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the funeral home. Don was born May 15, 1932, in Burleigh County. He attended school in Oliver County and graduated from Mandan High School. After graduation, he worked construction until he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1952-1954. He then went to college at Wahpeton State School of Science, while working for Carl Schmidt and Howard Brand at the Texaco Co. He married Betty Mackley on July 10, 1954, and moved to Renton, Wash., in the Spokane area. There he engaged in horse and cattle ranching. In 1960 he moved to Billings, Mont., and began working for Midland Dodge Co. Late in 1980, Don moved to Shepherd and opened the Shepherd Country Market and also drove school bus, taking the seniors on senior trips. He was a volunteer fireman, a member of the Lions Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He worked as rural postal carrier until Dec. 29, 2000. Don loved people, dancing, horses and fishing, but most of all, elk hunting with his friends. Don was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest national award presented to a Lion, and the first ever presented in the (Shepherd Chapter) State of Montana as well as nationally. Donald is survived by his wife, Alice; three daughters, Stacey Kitt and Amy Williams, both of Billings, and Leisa Moore, Texas; four grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Kitt. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie Kitt in 1977, and Edward Kitt in 1979. Don's final resting place will be at the Harmon Cemetery, along the Missouri River, on the Lewis and Clark Trail.

Anne Kritsky
JAMESTOWN -- Anne Kritsky, 80, Jamestown, died Feb. 3, 2001, in the Jamestown hospital. A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring at Butte Cemetery, Butte. She is survived by two sons, Delane, Pocatello, Idaho, and Waide, Jamestown; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Arthur Bauer, Minot, and Mike and Charley Bauer, both of Westhope. Alois Frances Krzmarzick
GARRISON -- Alois Frances Krzmarzick, 72, Garrison, died Feb. 2, 2001, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by four brothers, Wayne, Vernon, Severin and Ed, all of Garrison; and one sister, Mary Lou Conley, Yukon, Okla. (Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison)

ASHLEY -- Benjamin Lang, 87, Ashley, died Feb. 3, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ashley Baptist Church, with burial in Ashley Cemetery.
