SPIRITWOOD -- Irene C. Diesem, 83, Spiritwood, died Feb. 15, 2001, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown. She is survived by one son, Bill, Spiritwood.

Harry C. Gaugler
NEW LEIPZIG -- Harry C. Gaugler, 73, lifelong Grant County farmer-rancher, passed away Feb. 13, 2001, in the Mandan hospital after an extended illness. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Leipzig, with the Rev. John Amundson officiating. Burial will be in Selma Union Cemetery, near the Gaugler Ranch. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon, S.D., and will continue at the church one hour before services. Harry C. Gaugler was born Nov. 8, 1927, to Clem and Leona (Sainsbury) Gaugler on their farm in Kreutz Township, Grant County. He attended rural schools in Grant County and New Leipzig High School. Harry married Edna Eisenbarth on July 8, 1951. Harry always said, "She was the best thing that ever happened to me." They farmed with his father until moving to their present farm in 1961. Harry served on the Grant County ASC Committee, the Grant County FHA Board, the Bentley Elevator Board, two terms on the Jacobson Memorial Hospital Board and the Prince of Peace Church Council as a deacon and trustee. He loved cattle and making hay -- a good steward of the land. He stood for God, Country and Family. Harry believed a person to be as trustworthy as his word. Harry accepted his illness with great courage. He chose work over idleness, strength over weakness and generosity over self gratification. His grandchildren were his most precious people and he loved them dearly. Harry also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with all his friends -- young and old. He spent his shut-in days watching pheasant, grouse, deer and other wildlife from his picture window at home. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Leona; two brothers, Ray and Art; and two sisters, Marion and Margaret. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 49 years, Edna; two sons, Brandt and his wife, Lori Gaugler, Beach, and Lamont Gaugler, New Leipzig; and six grandchildren, Miranda, Seth, BriAnn, Brent, Brock and Stephanie Gaugler; two brothers, Ralph Gaugler, Bismarck, and John Gaugler, Thornton, Colo.; one sister, Betty Mullen, Lakewood, Colo.; as well as numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Edward Good House
WAKPALA, S.D. -- Edward Good House, 93, Wakpala, died Feb. 12, 2001, in the Mobridge hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, Wakpala. Further arrangements are pending at Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge.

Florence K. Gunn
SHADEHILL, S.D. -- Florence K. Gunn, 91, Shadehill, died Feb. 15, 2001, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lemmon, with burial in Hettinger cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Lorinda Bossman, Alexandria, Va., and Roxann Van Bockel, Emigrant, Mont.; one son, Vincent, Shadehill; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Rose Helbling
Rose Helbling, 79, Roseburg, Ore., died Jan. 24, 2001, in Roseburg. Services were held Jan. 27 at Chapel of the Roses, Roseburg. Rose Helbling was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Fallon, the daughter of John and Wilhelmina Hopfauf. She was the eldest of nine children. Rose and her children moved to Oregon in 1961. Rose devoted her life to raising her family. Those who had the opportunity to meet her will remember her warmth, compassion and kind heart. Her smiles and laughter will always be cherished in memories. She is survived by one brother, Richard Hopfauf; three sisters, Anne Frank, Gardy Klos, and Veronica Hopfauf; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Kathy, Allen and Joy and Gary and Christi; one daughter and son-in-law, Rose Marie and Garcia Underwood; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Leo J. Klein
LEEDS -- Leo J. Klein, 73, Leeds, died Feb. 13, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Leeds, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Jeff, Belle Plaine, Minn., and Leon, Fargo; five daughters, Cheryl Baumgarten, Fargo, Doreen Johnson, West Fargo, Pam Gorby, Minot, Denise Holm, West Farog, and Lisa Eggl, Minot; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Christ, Carrington, and Harold, New Rockford; and five sisters, Beatrice Schall, Rugby, Lorraine Hoover, Gold Canyon, Ariz., Delores Carlo, Seattle, Arlene Schmaltz, Rugby, and Kathy Schwinghammer, Hastings, Minn. LeRoy E. Mickelson
JAMESTOWN -- LeRoy E. Mickelson Sr., 89, Jamestown, died Feb. 14, 2001, in the Jamestown hospital. Serivces will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. David Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday. LeRoy E. was born Dec. 26, 1911, in Courtenay, the son of William Henry and Anna Marie (Jensen) Mickelson. He grew up and attended school in Courtenay, N.D., graduating from Courtenay High School. LeRoy married Cathryn Fletcher on March 18, 1942 in Jamestown, N.D. He entered the United States Army on March 18, 1942 at Fort Snelling, MN and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was discharged on Nov. 20, 1945, at Fort Lewis, Wash. He returned to Courtenay, where he farmed. In 1955 he worked for John Deere in Wimbledon. They moved to Woodworth in 1959, later moving to Jamestown, in 1962. He worked at the North Dakota State Hospital, retiring in 1976. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, listening to music in later years, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. LeRoy was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown. He is a member of the V.F.W. Club and D.A.V. LeRoy is survived by his wife, Cathryn Mickelson; four daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Larry Hennings, of Arlington, Texas, Sheila Listopad, Valley City, Sherry and Alex Musgrave, Jamestown; seven sons and daughters-in-law, LeRoy and Terri Jo Mickelson, Jr., Mandan, Rickie and Valerie Mickelson, Jamestown, Jean and Mark Deery, Jamestown, Terry Mickelson, Jamestown, Miles and Stacey Leslie Mickelson, of Jamestown, Brant and Linda Mickelson, Lincoln, Neb., Wayne and Ronnie Mickelson, Jamestown, Joel and Kirstin Clemens Mickelson, of Jamestown; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several great-step-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Bangs, Owatonna, Minn.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Avery and Frances Mickelson, La Porte, Ind., and Bill and Betty Mickelson, Lakewood, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Kim Mickelson; one brother; four sisters; and three grandchildren.

DICKINSON -- Rosalie Novotny, 82, Dickinson, died Feb. 15, 2001, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Rudolph Ulrich
ASHLEY -- Rudolph Ulrich, 92, Ashley, died Feb. 14, 2001, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by one son, Edwin, Ashley; one daughter, Darlene Glaesman, Ashley; one sister,Tillie Leicht, Lodi, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ESMOND -- Odmar Amundson, 80, Esmond, died Feb. 15, 2001, in a Rugby care center. Arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Esmond.

Victor Baker
Victor Baker, 75, Selby, S.D., died Feb. 15, 2001, in a Mobridge, S.D., hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Selby, S.D. Burial will be held at a later date in Selby Memorial Gardens Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sons, John, Rapid City, S.D., and Todd, Calif.; one stepson, Scott Artz, Selby; one stepdaughter, Julie Jordre, Sioux Falls, S.D.; six stepgrandchildren; and one brother, Chris, Couer d'Alene, Idaho. VALLEY CITY -- Jerry Maher, 42, Valley City, died Feb. 14, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at noon Saturday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Valley City. Burial will be in Morristown Cemetery, Morristown, S.D. He is survived by his wife, Lana; two sons, Logan, at home, and H.J., Valley City; four grandchildren; his parents, Donald and Edna, Morristown; two brothers, Joe, Bismarck, and Russell, Lakewood, Colo.; and three sisters, Laura Asbridge, Bismarck, Cathy Ericsson, Lemmon, S.D., and Carmel Powell, Herman, Minn. She is survived by three sons, Henry, Gilbert and Earl, all of Dickinson; three daughters, Darlene VanBillard, Riverside, Calif., and Patty Toof and Karen Meyers, both of Dickinson; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Ellasky, Fridley, Minn. ESMOND -- Odmar N. Amundson, 80, Esmond, died Feb. 15, 2001, in a Rugby care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Esmond. Burial will be in the spring in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Esmond. He is survived by two sisters, Melba Lies, Fessenden, and Thelma Newsom, Bismarck; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sharon Austin
BOWMAN -- Sharon Austin, 60, Bowman, formerly of Marmarth, died Feb. 16, 2001, in a Hettinger medical center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at Krebsbach Funeral Service Chapel, Bowman. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Marmarth. She is survived by her mother, Edna Cook, Sioux City, Iowa; three sons, Roy Prichard, Florida, Rick Prichard, Sioux City, Iowa, and Rod Prichard, Bowman; one daughter, Tammy Stamulous, Clear Lake, Iowa; and nine grandchildren.
