LAMOURE -- Carrie Marie Schiffner Gott, 81, LaMoure, died May 24, 2000 in a Lisbon care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids. Further arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure.

Judy K. Grabar
Judy K. Grabar, 48, Bismarck, died May 22, 2000, in her home after a one-year battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Church of Corpus Christi, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Judy was born May 1, 1952, in Bismarck, the daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth (Eisele) Morris. She attended school in Bismarck, graduating from St. Mary's Central High School. In 1974 she graduated from University of Mary. Judy married John Grabar on June 15, 1974, in Bismarck. She worked at the UND Family Practice Center. She enjoyed sailing, skiing and shopping. She is survived by her husband, John; one son, Michael; one daughter, Lisa; her mother, Elizabeth Morris; two brothers, Jim Morris and Bernard Morris Jr., all of Bismarck; one sister, Michelle Otto, Kansas City, Mo.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Loretta Grabar, Bismarck; five sisters-in-law, Ardyth, Denise, Pam, Susan and Patty; and two brothers-in-law, Steve and Mark Grabar. She was preceded in death by her father; and three aunts, Christine, Molly and Regina. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to the Bismarck Area Catholic Education Foundation.

Darrell Kueffler
GRENORA -- Darrell Kueffler, 63, Grenora, died May 22, 2000 in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his son, Scott, Grenora; his daughter, Tammy Bearce, rural Williston; six brothers, Leo and Clarence, both of rural Grenora, Phil and Tony, both of Grenora, Larry, Lemmon, S.D., and Rick, Des Lacs; four sisters, Marie Sorenson, Crosby, Shirley Hellman, Salem, Ore., Helen Gartner, Bismarck, and Betty Stiener, Bismarck; and five grandchildren. Rose Julia Satern
JAMESTOWN -- Rose Julia Satern, 93, Jamestown, May 23, 2000 in a Jamestown care center. Services will be held Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown. She is survived by her son, Gary Satern, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Arthur J. Stuhlmiller
Arthur J. "Art" Stuhlmiller, 69, Bismarck, died May 23, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Entombment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 1-9 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Art was born March 14, 1931 at Dodge to Albert and Minnie Stuhlmiller. He attended school at Dodge where he grew up. On Aug. 20, 1950 he married Hannah Miller. They farmed north of Dodge until 1962 when they moved to Bismarck. At that time Art began his insurance career until his retirement in 1997. Other than his work, Arthur had a lifetime love of music, playing the accordion and piano. He also loved people, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Hannah; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Wayne and Sandra Stuhlmiller, Bismarck, Kerry Stuhlmiller, Tempe, Ariz., Mark and Georgia Stuhlmiller, Bismarck; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kaylen and Leland Morast, Halliday, Sharon and Kevin Dunnigan, Fort Collins, Colo., Tami Stuhlmiller, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Frieda and Richard Frank, Bismarck; two sisters-in-law, Ann Stuhlmiller, Beulah, and Mardella Stuhlmiller, Richland, Wash.; and one special nephew, Vernon Stuhlmiller, Mandan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Minnie Stuhlmiller; his brothers, Alfred and Eddy Stuhlmiller, and one sister, Bertha Stuhlmiller, and his special nephew, Jerome Stuhlmiller. Marsha Eble
Marsha Eble, 34, East Lake, Mich., died May 6, 2000, at her home of cancer. She is survived by her mother, Gloria Dockter Eble, East Lake; her uncle and aunts, Ron and Gladys Zerr, Diana and Kevin Kwasniewski, all of Mandan, and John and Nancy Dockter, and Leona Papke, all of Bismarck.

Florence R. Hille
Florence "Flo" R. Hille, 74, Mandan, died May 9, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with Father Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Public visitation begins today from noon-9 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by the parish vigil at 8 p.m. Florence Pitzer the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Schwartzenbauer) Pitzer was born Jan. 7, 1926, south of Mandan. Flo was raised and educated south of Mandan attending schools in St. Anthony and rural Mandan. On Aug. 3, 1948, Flo married Melvin Hille in Mandan. After her children were raised and educated she was proud of her getting her GED which she did by attending night classes. From 1964-1981, she managed the Mandan Country Club and from 1981-1989, she worked for the Bismarck Country Club. She catered many weddings, picnics and social club events. Florence was a member of the Cloverleaf 4-H Club for 13 years. Flo's burst of vitality seemed to go with her flashing brown eyes. She was one of the first women in her area to start a business. She felt that when you did something, you did it to the best of your ability. Her personality could be described as fire and ice. She was open and honest about her feelings and would tell you face to face leaving no gray area. She loved being around people especially when she could cook for them, her door was always open. Flo had a deep faith in God and attended daily mass. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and sharing her talents with them. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Doug (Carol), rural Mandan, Roger (Julie), Warren, Minn., and Glen (Karen), Camarillo, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Annette (Leonard) Heinert, Solen, and Marilyn (Chuck) Kottsick, Mandan; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Ressler, Mandan; and two sisters-in-law, Rose and Lottie Pitzer, Mandan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin, who died in 1998; three brothers, Robert, Leonard and Richard; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Margaret. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Clarabel Jorgensen
WILLISTON -- Clarabel Jorgensen, 84, formerly of Williston, died May 3, 2000 in a Pleasanton, Calif. hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery. She is survived by her children, Ann Maas, Minneapolis, Mary Beth Branca, San Ramon, Calif., and Bill Jorgensen, Williston; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Edward C. Schmidt
Edward C. Schmidt, 74, 308 West Custer Park Street, died May 8, 2000 at home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at First United Methodist Church, 924 N. 11th St., Bismarck, with the Rev. Gary Cole officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites provided by VFW Post No. 1326. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Eddie was born on Sept. 22, 1925 at Omaha, Neb., the son of David and Anna (Martens) Schmidt. In 1933, he moved with his family to Bismarck where he attended school, graduating from Bismarck High in 1943. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He married Lelah Mauch in 1947, in Bismarck. Starting in 1947, he worked for Bismarck Builder's Supply Company as a sales representative. He served as manager from 1979 until retiring in 1989. Eddie was a member of the Elks, Amvets, VFW and American Legion. He was a former director of the North Dakota Retail Lumbermen's Association and received the Outstanding Salesman Award from the association in 1969. He was a longtime member of Apple Creek Country Club, where he served on the Grounds and Greens Committee. An avid golfer, he won numerous titles. He is survived by his wife, Lelah, Bismarck; two sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Karen Schmidt, Grand Forks, and Bob and Kirsten Schmidt, Port Angeles, Wash.; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Virgil Flegel, Lincoln, Neb.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Luetta Cole, Bismarck, Della and Earl Lively, Dallas, Texas, and Terry and Arthur Burlingame, Holland, Mich.; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Betty and Ralph Phillips, Bismarck, Mildred Leedy, King City, Ore., and Aleta Griffin, Aiken, S.C., and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Johnny Schmidt, and one sister, Verna Laverdier. The family prefers memorials to MedCenter One Hospice and Salvation Army.

Bonnie Jeanne Bates
Bonnie Jeanne Bates, 79, died Dec. 18, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Art Scanson and Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Middle Brook Cemetery, Middle Brook, Mo. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Bonnie Jeanne Blackwell was born April 19, 1921 at Melzo, Mo., the daughter of Charles Coleman and Mary Harris (Miller) Blackwell. She was raised and educated in Bonne Terre, Mo. She attended the State Teacher's College at CApe Girdardeau, Mo., where she received a teaching certificate. On May 5, 1942, she married William Leslie Bates at Junction City, Kan. She was an active member of McCabe United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, William L. Bates Jr., Minot, and Bruce Blackwell Bates, Crosby, Texas; and three brothers, Ralph Blackwell, Earl Blackwell and James Blackwell. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Robert Blackwell and two sisters, Elsie Matthews and Ruby Collins. The family requests that memorials are given to McCabe United Methodist Church or the Open Door Community Center. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Emmet Birk
Emmet Birk, 86, Whittier, Calif., died recently of cancer. He was born in 1914 at Grafton and graduated from UND in 1937. He played on three conference basketball teams and was inducted into the UND Hall of Fame. After graduation Emmet played one year of pro ball and two years with Finnegans Bismarck Phantoms. He was served five years in World War II. After the war, Emmet and his wife Stella, moved to Whittier where he taught and coached in the Montebello school district for 31 years full time and 14 years as a substitute. Emmet is survived by his wife, Stella Forland Birk, formerly of Turtle Lake; his daughters, Kristine Perry, Idaho, and Lisa Ajir, Carmel, Calif., and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Genelle.

Erland Blomquist
JAMESTOWN -- Erland Blomquist, 84, Jamestown, died Dec. 16, 2000 in a Jamestown nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kulm, with burial in Swede Township Cemetery, Kulm. He is survived by his wife, Harriet; one daughter, Glenna Blomquist, Rosemount, Minn.; and one sister, Marcie Henderson, Seattle, Wash. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm)

George Braun
George Braun, 78, Bismarck, died Dec. 18, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Evelyn Anderson
GARRISON -- Evelyn Anderson, 82, Garrison, died Dec. 21, 2000, in the Garrison care center. Services and burial will be held in the spring. She is survived by one daughter, Carolyne Bauer, Butte; one son, Kenneth Anderson, Truckee, Calif.; four grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and one sister, Violet Britton, Turtle Lake. Elma R. Barth
Elma R. Barth, 70, Bismarck, died Dec. 23, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Stanley Vincent Chepulis
PARK RIVER -- Stanley Vincent Chepulis, 82, Park River, died Dec. 22, 2000, in the Park River care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Churchs Ferry, with burial in Leeds Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Crystal; two daughters, Noanie Kelly, Grand Forks, and Vernie Wharam, Park River; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Frank, Devils Lake. Cody Feist
ENDERLIN -- Cody Feist, 24, Enderlin, died Dec. 22, 2000, near Lisbon, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg. Further arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Miles L. Handy
Miles L. Handy, 77, a former area resident, died at his home in Tacoma, Wash., Dec. 15, 2000. Miles was born in the Underwood Maternity Home on Feb. 15, 1923, the son of Ezra A. and Blanche E. (Reeshagen) Handy, both of whom were early McLean County residents. In 1929 the Handy family moved to Washburn, where he attended both grade school and high school, graduating in the class of 1941. Miles then attended the University of North Dakota for one year before enlisting in the Merchant Marines in 1942, where he served as a radio operator until the end of World War II. During his years of service he had the opportunity to visit many of the major seaports in the world. After his discharge, Miles returned to his home in Washburn. Miles married Betty M. Jones on Nov. 28, 1943, at the First Methodist Church of Washburn. Betty had made her home with her cousins, Russell and Ferol Anderson, also of Washburn during her high school years. After his return, MIles worked for several years as an apprentice plumber and electrician with his father. In the early 1950s he was named manager of Oliver-Mercer Counties REA. In 1966 the family moved to Tacoma, where he continued his vocation as an electrician at Boeing Aircraft and then with the Port of Tacoma until his retirement in 1985. Miles was an active member of many bodies of the Masonic Lodge and served as Rainbow Dad for many years. Miles is survived by Betty, his wife of 57 years; one son, Michael and his friend, Emma Schwarz, Manhattan, N.Y.; and two daughters, Dana and Gerry Craig, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Mila and Tom Spalding, Alyn, Wash.; four grandchildren, Jaymon and Larry Craig, and Janel and Brian Spalding; three sisters, Doris E. Norling, Travers City, Mich., Marjorie L. Benesh, Bismarck, and Helen J. Hickethier, San Diego, Calif.; and 10 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, in 1972; and his mother, in 1992; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Norling, and Earl B. Benesh; and other relatives and close friends. Following a brief memorial and committal service, Miles was buried in Sumner Cemetery, Tacoma, on Dec. 20, 2000.
