Clarence M. Christensen
Clarence M. Christensen, 79, Bismarck, and formerly of Washburn, died Feb. 15, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, with the Revs. Steve Sathre and Bradley Brauer officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Organist will be LeAnn Richard and Soloist will be the Rev. Brad Brauer. Visitation will be from 4:30-8 p.m. Friday, at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Casketbearers will be Richard Lorentzen, Haldor Lorentzen, LaVern Johnson, Neal Peterson, Loel Nelson, Morris Nelson, Rudy Lundberg, Clark Ness. Clarence M. Christensen was born on Nov. 4, 1920 in Underwood, to Christ and Agatha (Jensen) Christensen. He attended rural school west of Washburn. In 1938, he began working for the Findall Ranch, located west of Washburn, where he served as manager until 1945. In 1946, he enlisted in the US Air Force during World War II and was discharged in 1948. He married Betty M. Wheldon on March 24, 1949 at Washburn. He then began working for the Sheldon Oil Co. of Washburn, where he worked until 1960. The couple then moved to Mandan and Clarence drove truck for Transport Inc. of Mandan, until retiring in 1979. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Bismarck. Clarence entered the Baptist Home in December of 1999. He enjoyed music and playing his accordian. He especially enjoyed playing the accordian for residents of local nursing homes. He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Brenda, Bismarck; one daughter, Pat Christensen, Bismarck; two grandchildren, Lacie and Shawn Christensen; one sister, Helga Thrailkill, Cortez, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lars, Jens and Arthur; and three sisters, Mara, Mabel and Myrt. (Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn)

Benedict "Bennie" Fettig
Benedict "Bennie" Fettig, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 69, Bismarck, died Feb. 15, 2000 peacefully at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Church of St. Anne with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. Friday, at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a vigil/rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Bennie was born on Jan. 9, 1931, the son of Benedict and Magdalena (Wangler) Fettig in Napoleon. Bennie and his wife, Bernie (Mitzel) were married on Sept. 29, 1956 in Napoleon, where they lived until moving to Bismarck in 1966. He owned and operated a mobile station in Napoleon for eight years. He worked at International Harvester for 34 years as a farm equipment salesman. Bennie retired in 1990 from Northern Plains of Mandan. Ben was a proud member of the US Army from February 1952 to February 1955. He was stationed in Newfoundland and was discharged as a sargent. Bennie's interests included working in his yard, gardening, playing cards, bowling, golfing and traveling. He loved children and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Bernie; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and his wife Kathe Fettig, Lacey, Wash.; two grandchildren, Tayler and Mitchel Fettig, Fargo, Agnes Fettig, Bismarck, and Florence Wentz, Belfield; four sisters, Margaret Kasch, Helen Richter, both of Bismarck, Eva Meyers, Columbus, Ohio, and Mary Mehling, Fresno, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Bob and his wife Linda Mitzel, Germany; and many and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Marty and Bennett; and one brother, Andy. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Bernice Guenther
FORBES -- Bernice Guenther, 70, Forbes, died Feb. 15, 2000 in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale. Further arrangements are pending with Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.

Beulah M. Helgerson
Beulah M. Helgerson, 83, New Hope, Minn., died Feb. 1, 2000, in a New Hope care center, where she had lived for six years. A resident of Bismarck from 1949 to 1962, Beulah is survived by her daughters, Eileen Howland, El Segundo, Calif., and Patricia Tjaden, Sacramento, Calif.; and her son, John Helgerson, Victoria, Minn. Beulah had 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Beulah was employed by Leach and Kelsch, a Bismarck oil exploration firm, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture until 1962, when she moved to Lomita, Calif. She retired from the U.S. Department of Defense in 1971. A longtime, active member of the Catholic Daughters and her church, Beulah was a community leader in Lomita, involved in improving living conditions and health care services for seniors. Among other accomplishments, she was instrumental in establishing senior housing in Lomita.

Adela Pfeifle
ASHLEY -- Adela Pfeifle, 91, Ashley, died Feb. 16, 2000 in the Ashley nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. Further arrangements are pending with Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Roy E. Schmidt
JAMESTOWN -- Roy E. Schmidt, 82, Jamestown, died Feb. 16, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at First Assembly of God Church, Jamestown, with burial in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown. He is survived by six children, Ronald, Edgeley; Steve, Bismarck; Terry Schmidt, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Rick, Jamestown; Paul, Jamestown; Paulette Metz, Gackle; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sallie Hoffer, Napoleon and Alice Martin, Portland, Ore. DICKINSON -- Myrtle Riemer, Dickinson, died Dec. 24, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital. Arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Ruth Schnabel
NAPOLEON -- Ruth Schnabel, 93, Napoleon, died Dec. 25, 2000, in the Napoleon care center. Arrangements are pending at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Harold Schultz
FORT PECK, Mont. -- Harold Schultz, 69, Fort Peck, died Dec. 23, 2000, in a Glasgow hospital. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, N.D.

Gotthilf B. Blatter
ELLENDALE -- Gotthilf B. Blatter, 91, Ellendale, died Dec. 23, 2000, in an Aberdeen, S.D. hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale. Further arrangements are pending at Hoven Funeral Home, Ellendale.

William R. Bond
ALMONT -- William R. Bond, 75, Almont, died Dec. 25, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Almont Lutheran Church. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Robert A. Conitz
JAMESTOWN -- Robert A. Conitz, 79, Jamestown, died Dec. 24, 2000, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Edgeley. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; one daughter, Barbara Conitz, Jackson Hole, Wyo.; one son, Duane, Idaho; one stepdaughter, Virginia Evans, Mesa, Ariz.; one stepson, Jim Christ, Jamestown; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Artis Tranmer, Napa, Calif., and Genevieve Davis, Groton, S.D. Blaine Cook
The Rev. Blaine Cook, 82, Bismarck, was a Minot native and the first administrator of Bishop Ryan High School, Minot, and was a former pastor of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish, Bismarck, and served at the University of Mary and St. Mary's in Bismarck, died Dec. 26, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with visitation to begin one hour prior. There will also be visitation from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Memorials are preferredto Bishop Ryan High School Foundation in Minot, University of Mary or St. Mary's High School, both of Bismarck.

Peter Russell Deane
NEW TOWN -- Peter Russell Deane, 76, New Town, died Dec. 22, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, New Town, with burial in Packineau Dam Cemetery, White Shield. He is survived by his wife, Iva; two stepdaughters; two stepsons; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. (Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison)

Valorie Ann Duncan
BOWMAN -- Valorie Ann Schaaf Duncan, 51, Bowman, died Dec. 23, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Thursday at Krebsbach Funeral Chapel, Bowman, with burial at a later date. She is survived by her husband, George; her mother, O'Tillia Schaaf, Port Orchard, Wash.; three daughters, Shawna Groosm, Boise, Idaho, Michelle Duncan, Bowman, and Lori Martin, Middleton, Idaho; two sisters, Janet Franckowiak, Port Orchard, and Linda Franckowiak, Elmira, Mich.; seven brothers, David Schaaf, Hettinger, Ben Schaaf, Bowman, Bernie Schaaf, Port Orchard, Leon Schaaf, Venita, Ore., and Tim Schaaf, Neil Schaaf and Ronnie Schaaf, all of Springfield, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.

Major D. Elliott
MINOT -- Major D. Elliott, 90, 406 11th Ave. N.E., Minot, died Dec. 22, 2000, in a Minot nursing home. A family graveside service will take place in the spring of 2001 at Des Lacs Community Cemetery, rural Des Lacs. Major Elliott was born July 5, 1910, in Minot, the son of Howard and Lena (Westom) Elliott. He was raised and educated at Minot, and graduated from Minot State University. He was united in marriage to Mattie Shaffer in 1937 in Des Lacs. He entered into active duty service with the U.S. Army, and served during World War II in Okinawa. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Minot, where he and his wife made their home throughout the years. He was employed with Northwest Collection Agency for a number of years. Mattie died Oct. 11, 1983. Major was a longtime member of Minot Elks Lodge 1089, and had participated in bowling leagues throughout the years. He is survived by his wife, Mattie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Martha Elliott, Minot, and Keith and LaVonne Elliott, Fargo; four grandchildren, including Sandra Elliott, Bismarck, and Renee Elliott, Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Bismarck; and three great-grandchildren. Kurt Erdmann
Funeral services for Kurt Erdmann, 94, Hettinger, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Hettinger Lutheran Church. He died on December 25, 2000, in a Hettinger care center. Further arrangements are pending at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger.

LeRoy Eslinger
GARRISON -- LeRoy Eslinger, 73, Garrison, died Dec. 24, 2000, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ, Garrison, with burial in Garrison Cemetery. He is survived by two sisters, Delores Eslinger and Elaine Eslinger; one brother, Floyd; three sons, Dan, Don and Walter; three daughters, Brenda, Sharyl and Connie; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Orvin A. Foss
Orvin A. Foss, 85, Bismarck, died Dec. 23, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Todd Hylden and Paul Schauer officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Finley. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Orvin was born Nov. 7, 1915, near Finley, in Steele County, the son of Olaus and Nellie (Braaten) Foss. He attended rural schools and graduated from Finley High School in 1935. He married Jeanette Holmen from Sharon, in 1941, at the Portland, N.D. parsonage. From 1945-1946, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S. Monrovia on the Pacific Front. After his discharge from the Navy, he farmed the family homestead for a number of years, then worked for the Steele County Government and later Sheyenne Valley Electric in Finley. Orvin and Jeanette moved to Bismarck in 1970, where he worked at the North Dakota State Laboratory, then for H.A. Thompson and Sons for 17 years, retiring at age 75. Orvin's greatest loves were his family and friends; spending time at his farm in Golden Lake, and reminiscing with his old friends. Everyone knew him as a kind and gentle man who spent his life caring about others. He was a good and proud Norwegian who especially prided himself at being a champion whist and pinochle player. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion, VFW and Eagles Club. Orvin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanette; one daughter, Jennifer Egan, Wilton; one grandson, Patrick Egan, Fargo; one sister, Edith Strand, Mayville; his special friend, Jeff "J.J." Kottenbrock and his family; and many nieces and nephews. Orvin was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harry, Ellert and Noble; three sisters, Ovedia, Geneva and Mabel; one son-in-law, John Egan; and many old friends.

Ralph Heiser
DICKINSON -- Ralph Heiser, 94, Dickinson, died Dec. 25, 2000, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by one son, Glenn, Dickinson; one daughter, Bernice Shreve, Dickinson; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Theresa Schwindt, Killdeer, Barbara Krenzel, Dickinson, and Beta McKnight, Great Falls, Mont. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)
