Joseph Smith
Joseph C. Smith, 39, Bismarck, passed from life on Feb. 27, 2000. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, at First Baptist Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Steve Saunders officiating. Memory sharing time will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the First Baptist Church.
Joseph Cedric Smith was born on Nov. 1, 1960 to Roger and Opal (Fetch) Smith in Benson, Minn., and attended Alexandria Tech School in Alexandria, Minn. He worked for Red Fox Cafe in Beulah. On Sept. 2, 1988, he married Nicolette Joleen (Babel) Smith at First Baptist Church, Mandan. They lived in Bismarck where Joseph enjoyed legislative issues involving independent life for people with disabilities and was involved with DCIL activities. Joseph participated in preparing for the Christmas party for the handicapped association. His favorite past times include trips to Fort Lincoln State Park, Bear Tooth Pass, MT telling jokes, family gatherings, talking to friends on the phone, trips to get ice cream with his grandchildren and watching television, especially comedies, auto mechanic shows and Star Trek.
Joe enjoyed listening to music and Johnny Cash during church gatherings. Joe collected many Teddy Bears. His favorite was Bobby. His favorite poem was The Tattered Teddy Bear by Ken Brown.
Keeping him in their fondest memories are his wife, Nikki, Bismarck; his son Demetrius and wife Kara, Vista, Calif.; his daughters, Consuela and husband Michael Triepke, Bismarck, Priscilla and husband Terry Sonnenberg, Bismarck, Angela Metz and friend Barry Rooker, Mandan; his brothers, James Smith and wife Agnes, Three Forks, Mont., John Smith, Beulah, Jordan and wife Rose, Benson, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Barbara Babel, Carson.
He was preceded in death by his parents. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Kathleen Stevens
Kathleen "Tootie" Stevens, 80, Lemmon, S.D., died Feb. 27, 2000 in the Lemmon nursing home. Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lemmon, with burial in Greenhill Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley; her daughters, Linda Meidinger, Kinsey, Mont., Cindy Hetzel, Keldron, S.D., Lola Sigvaldsen, rural Lemmon; one son, Reed, Rapid City, S.D.; and 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon)

Marian Stevens
UNDERWOOD -- Marian Stevens, 81, rural Underwood, died Feb. 28, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at First Lutheran Church, Washburn. Further arrangements are pending with Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

Robert Thompson
JAMESTOWN -- Robert A. "Bob" Thompson, 69, Jamestown, died Feb. 28, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor; five brothers, James, Yuca Valley, Calif., Dale, Eatonville, Wash.; Duane, Jamestown, Larry, Carrington, Barton, Bozeman, Mont.; and a sister Audrey Klaudt, Bismarck. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Alvin Wanner
MOTT -- Alvin Wanner, 90, Mott, died Feb. 27, 2000 in a Mott nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Mott, with the Rev. James Reardon officiating, with burial in St. Vincent's Cemetery, Mott.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. MST today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott. A rosary and Christian wake service will be said at 7 p.m. MST tonight at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
Alvin was born on Oct. 14, 1909 at Glen UIlin to Emanuel and Monica (Glasser) Wanner. He grew up on the family farm, receiving his education in rural schools. Following his schooling, he worked with his parents. Alvin was united in marriage to Philipine Marthaller on Oct. 16, 1934 at St. Placidus Catholic Church, north of Mott. Following their marriage, they worked with his parents in the St. Placidus area. In 1942, they purchased a farm north of Mott. In 1969, they retired from farming, and moved into Mott. They moved into his mother's home, which they remodeled and added onto.
Alvin enjoyed doing carpentry work following his retirement, and he also enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Greatful for having shared his life are his wife of 65 years, Philipine Wanner, Mott; three sons, Simon and Regina Wanner, Mandan, Martin and Mary Ann Wanner, Winfield, Iowa, and Alvin Wanner Jr., Mandan; his daughters, Betty and Gary Becker, Hettinger, and Donna and Terry Manolovits, Bowman; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rudolph Wanner, Dickinson, and George Wanner, Bismarck; and one sister, Magdaline Greff, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Sebastian; and three brothers and three sisters. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott)

Anard V. Berg
Anard V. Berg, 75, Bismarck, died Feb. 18, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Tengesdahl officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Anard was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Oliver County, the son of Iver and Goda (Johnson) Berg. He attended Pleasant Valley School. Anard married Marian Brilz, Dec. 17, 1947. Anard owned a fuel business for several years before going into the farming and dairy business in the Center area. They moved to Bismarck in 1979 and bought some land near Baldwin in 1981. He married Anna Sjomeling on June 6, 1997. He is survived by six sons and five daughters-in-law, Doug and Kathy, Bismarck, Dwight and Debi, Cimarron, Kan., Dennis and Phyllis, and Darwin and Pat, all of Bismarck, and Dale, and David and Gloria, all of Stanton; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Cliff England, Bismarck; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandson; four stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Cindy and Stan Sandmeier, Jan and Les Kosters, all of Mobridge, S.D., Jackie and Bob Vetsch, Pollock, S.D., and Bonnie and Vern Hill, Fargo; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Kenny and Patty Sjomeling, Bismarck; 15 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Caroline; and one brother, Ivan. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter-in-law, Cindy; one stepdaughter, Tracey Meyer; one granddaughter, Carrie Berg; and one brother, Ramond Berg.

Henry Biel
DICKINSON -- Henry Biel, 88, Dickinson, died Feb. 18, 2000, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson. He is survived by three daughters, LaVonne Schenkenberger,Lake Oswego, Ore., Adele Homiller, Pennsylvania, and Emily Prokop, Baker, Mont.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Katherine Linster, Sacramento, Calif. Esther L. Carlson
WASHBURN -- Esther L. Carlson, 97, Bismarck, died Feb. 17, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Washburn, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. She is survived by one daughter, Lorraine Boehler, Bismarck; two sons, Curtis, Washburn, and David, Williston; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Fisher, Aurora, Colo. Romona Cunningham
Romona Cunningham, 59, 20191Ú2 Ave. E East, Bismarck, died Feb. 17, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Evangel Temple, Bismarck, with Revs. Arland Dwelle and Lloyd Jorgenson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday, both at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Romona was born Dec. 5, 1940, at Grand Island, Neb., the daughter of Floyd and Florence (McClarkin) Cunningham. She moved with her family to Bowman in 1947 and in 1950 to Bismarck. She graduated from Bismarck High School. She was employed with Capitol Laundry and when AmeriPride Linen and Apparel Services bought the company, she remained working there. She was a member of Evangel Temple. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Phyllis Cunningham, Springfield, Mo.; one niece, Keli Eddings, Dallas; and one nephews, Matt Eddings, Springfield. Romona was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Edward J. Cunningham. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Gerhardt F. Bruse
Gerhardt F. Bruse, 88, Bismarck, died Jan. 16, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Further arrangements are pending.

Kaitlin Rose Clark
Kaitlin Rose Clark, died three days after her birth at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, at the First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Charles Axness officiating. Burial will be in the Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Kaitlin was born on Jan. 11, 2001, in Bismarck, the daughter of Dan and Karla (Hertwig) Clark of Mandan. In addition to her parents, Kaitlin is survived by her twin brother, Joshua Alan; her grandparents, Bob and Rose Hertwig, Hillsboro, and Dennis and Bernice Meyer, Mandan; her aunts and uncles, Jay and Michelle Clark, Herreid, S.D., and Sherri and Dave Schultz, Buxton; and cousins, Jack Clark, and Tyler, Danielle and Brittany Schultz. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jack Clark and her uncle Dean Alan Clark. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Juanita Ereth
Juanita Delkamp Ereth, 64, Bismarck, died Jan. 14, 2001, in a Mandan care center with family by her side. Family will be receiving friends from 10 a.m.-noon today at Bismarck Funeral Home. Juanita was born Nov. 28, 1937, in Solen, to Anton and Anna (Frohlich) Ereth. She graduated from Solen High School in 1954. She was a housewife for the last 41 years. She will be missed by everybody who loved her. She is survived by three daughters, Lauranda, Tina and Rhonda; one son, Joda; seven grandsons; four brothers; and four sisters.

Martha Anna Maria Fust
JAMESTOWN -- Martha Anna Maria Fust, 99, Jamestown, died Jan. 16, 2001, in the Jamestown care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Jamestown. Further arrangements are pending at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Alma Gilbertson
MEDINA -- Alma Gilbertson, 85, Medina, died Jan. 16, 2001, in the Steele care center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at English Lutheran Church, Medina. Further arrangements are pending at Eddy Funeral Service, Jamestown.

Alvin Henne
HARVEY -- Alvin Henne, 78, Harvey, died Jan. 16, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Arvys Hufferd
MARION, Iowa -- Arvys Hufferd, 85, Marion, died Jan. 15, 2001, in a Marion hospital after a long illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakland Church of the Nazarene, Marion, with the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be private. Survivors include four daughters, Carol Ford, Indianola, Jeanette Miller, Bismarck, Linda Miller, Cedar Rapids, and Gwen Koropatrick, Toms River, N.J.; two sons, Roger, Oceanside, Calif., and Steven, Arlington, Texas; one sister, Helen Jacus, Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Olga Alexander and Mildred Hufferd; one brother-in-law, Bill Rogan, Scranton; 19 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan, in 1988; two brothers, Marion and Duane Hufferd; one sister, Etha Martin; and one granddaughter, Shelly. Arvys was born July 4, 1915, in Hubbard, the beloved daughter of Wilbur and Florence Allen Alexander. She married Ivan Hufferd on July 4, 1933, in Carroll. She was a member of Oakland Church of the Nazarene, the All Church Singles, was a foster parent to five foster children when she and Ivan lived in Hedrick. She learned to paint at age 65 and became quite an accomplished artist, spending many hours at her hobby. Arvys and Ivan moved to Bismarck following their marriage, then to Buffalo, Mo., to Hedrick, and the last five years she lived at Village Place in Marion. She leaves behind many loving family members and good friends. Memorials may be made to the Dialysis Unit at Mercy Medical Center or to Hospice of Mercy.
