Margaret Johnson
Margaret Johnson, 89, Bismarck, died Jan. 15, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church, 3225 Harvest Lane, Bismarck, with the Revs. Arland Dwelle and Lloyd Jorgenson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Margaret Johnson was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Detroit, the daughter of William R. and Augustana Johnson. She attended grade school in Shamokin, Pa., and high school in Detroit, graduating in 1930 from Wilton High School. Margaret earned a standard teaching certificate from Valley City State University, and a bachelor of science degree also from Valley City. She did graduate studies at University of North Dakota, North Dakota State University, University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, and the University of Mary, Bismarck. Margaret taught in several rural schools, high school in Moffit, and in Flasher, before teaching at Wachter Elementary School, Bismarck. She taught 28 years at Wachter. Margaret loved her pupils and her pupils loved her. Margaret Johnson was a long time member of Evangel Temple, Assembly of God, transferring from Regan Assembly of God in 1942. Margaret was active in her church, teaching Sunday school, both elementary and adult classes, active in Women's Ministries, and held several elective positions. She was a member of the Bismarck Education Association, North Dakota Education Association, and state president of the North Dakota Audio-Visual Association. Margaret was a pledge of Kappa Delta Kappa, social sorority. Margaret had many pursuits. She loved to read and write, and was co-author of a text-workbook on North Dakota which revealed her love of North Dakota. She was an avid gardener until her health prevented her work there. She loved music and handwork, knitting, crocheting and Hardanger, a Norwegian embroidery. Margaret is survived by two sisters-in-law, Ruby Johnson, Bismarck, and her family, Suzanne and Gary Paulsen, Bismarck, Steven and Jessica and their son, Kristian, Heidi and her fiance, Jeff, and Brent and Cassie, and their son, Braden, Mrs. Russell Johnson of Seattle, Wash. and her family, Dana Bruce and April and Ara Herth. She also leaves several cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Russell and William R.; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Harris Miller; and a grandnephew, Christopher John Paulsen.

Donald Kimball
MINOT -- Donald Kimball, 70, Minot, died Jan. 15, 2001, in a Minot hospital. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Magdalena Koch
Magdalena Koch, 93, Mandan, died Jan. 16, 2001, in the Mandan care center. Arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Olivia Lesmeister
NEW ROCKFORD -- Olivia Lesmeister, 82, New Rockford, died Jan. 13, 2001, in her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Jerome, New Rockford, and Frank, Albertville, Ala.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. (Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford)

Lydia Lindemann
GOLDEN VALLEY -- Lydia Lindemann, 99, a resident of the Knife River Care Center, formerly of Golden Valley, died Jan. 14, 2001, in the care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Friday at Golgotha Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, with the Rev. Richard Melchert officiating. Burial will follow in Golgotha Lutheran Cemetery, Golden Valley. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah. Lydia was born Sept. 23, 1901, in Amendorf, Saxon, Germany, the eldest of five children born to Wilhelm and Emma (Heuermann) Loewe. She grew up in Halle and immigrated to the United States with the Rev. and Mrs. Rudolf Heupel as a "mail-order" bride for John Lindemann on Aug. 9, 1923. John had immigrated from Russia in 1914. On Aug. 19, 1923, she married John. They farmed five miles north of Golden Valley and raised their four children there. In 1957, they moved into Golden Valley but continued to help out on the farm until John's death on Nov. 27, 1967. Lydia became a resident of the Knife River Care Center in January 1994. Lydia loved nature, the farm and all the hard work involved. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was the light of her life and she will be deeply missed by all. She took trips to Germany to visit family in 1970 and 1992, as she still had a deep love for her homeland and family there, but her heart was in North Dakota. She was a member of Golgotha Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, the Golgotha Frauen Verein and the Golden Valley Senior Citizens. Lydia is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Eleanore, Golden Valley; two daughters, Leona Brecht, Golden Valley, Hilda Backfisch, Beulah; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Rose Lindemann, Billings, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families in Germany. Rejoicing with her in heaven are her husband, John; son, Rudy; two special granddaughters, Amy Backfisch Klein and Bonnie Brecht Stern; a precious great-grandson, Daniel Joseph Klein; and infant grandson, Alan R. Backfisch; a son-in-law, Deen A. Brecht; her parents; grandparents; three brothers; and one sister. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the charity of the donor's choice.

Rosemary Meyer
DICKINSON -- Rosemary Meyer, 65, Dickinson, died Jan. 15, 2001, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MST Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with entombment in Dickinson Mausoleum. She is survived by her husband, Richard; two sons, Gregory and Gordon, Dickinson; six grandchildren; one sister, Emma Doty, Glendive, Mont.; and one brother, Leonard Porter, Williston.

Linda Skaar
Linda Skaar, 57, died of cancer Jan. 8, 2001, in Albuquerque, N.M. A memorial service was held at her home on Jan. 13, 2001, in Placitas, N.M. Linda is survived by her mother, Florence Skaar, Bismarck; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dennis and Flo Schulz, Bismarck; one sister, Jan Heins, Milwaukee, Wis.; one brother, Don, West Virginia; and one sister-in-law, Sandy. She was preceded in death by her father, Nels Skaar; and one brother, Dean Skaar.

Ida Zinnel
Ida Zinnel, 89, Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan, died Jan. 15, 2001, in the care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Charlie Axness officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Ida (Wenger) Zinnel, the daughter of Gottlieb and Barbara (Effinger) Wenger was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Morton County. She was raised and educated in Mandan. On June 12, 1939, she married Anton Zinnel in Mandan. She is survived by two brothers, George Wenger, Longmont, Colo., and Vernon Wenger, Pacific, Wash.; one sister, Katherine Mosbrucker, Bismarck; one grandson, David Zinnel, New Salem; and one great-granddaughter, Brandi Zinnel. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anton, who died Feb. 12, 1978; one son, Richard, who died June 2, 1973; one grandson, Clifford Zinnel; two brothers, Henry and Fred; and two sisters, Florence McMillan and Rose Tokach.

Eleanor Ferderer
Eleanor Ferderer, 63, Bismarck, died Feb. 18, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon Tuesday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas Kramer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services at the church. A Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 7 tonight at the funeral home, and a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Eleanor Hoerner was born Aug. 11, 1936, south of Almont, the daughter of Ralph and Celestine (Wertz) Hoerner. She was raised in Spokane, Wash., until 1946, when the family returned to Almont to live with her aunt and Florian and Margaret Hoerner. She married Ralph Ferderer on April 7, 1953, at St. Joseph's Church in Almont. In her life she had various jobs, including Kellers Old Age Home, daycare provider, cook for the Cathedral Grade School and at Econo Foods. She retired in January 1999. Eleanor enjoyed doing volunteer work, growing indoor plants, gardening, baking and also cooking for funeral luncheons at the Cathedral Church. She was a member of Catholic Daughters and the Cathedral Altar Society. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; three children and their spouses, Audrey and Greg Morman, Bismarck, Rose and Kevin Wruck, Hazen, and Ronald and Denise Ferderer, Milnor; eight grandchildren, Randy, Jeff and Jennifer Morman, Amy and Joshua Wruck, and Christopher, Katlyn and Jacob Ferderer; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Pat Schonder, Wenatchee, Wash.; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Irene Ley, Spokane, Wash., Anna and Jim Kofmehl, Deer Park, Wash., Caroline and George Ferderer, Auburn, Wash., Angie and Robert Clay, Vancouver, Wash., Monica Reisenauer, Bismarck, and Helen and Donald Hadley, Amarillo, Texas; and a very special friend, Caroline Kilen, Mandan. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Joseph.

Albert C. Goehring
LINTON -- Albert C. Goehring, 84, Bismarck, formerly of Linton, died Feb. 18, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Alice Grothe
WASHBURN -- Alice Grothe, 89, Washburn, died Feb. 18, 2000, in her home. Arrangements are pending at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

Reuben O. Heupel
Reuben O. Heupel, 78, Bismarck, died Feb. 15, 2000, in Mesa, Ariz. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Vernon A. Jacobsen
Vernon A. Jacobsen, 79, died Feb. 18, 2000, in a Bismarck care center of complications with Parkinson's Disease. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday and 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Vernon was born Feb. 2, 1921, at Dodge, the son of Andrew and Bertha (Johnson) Jacobsen. He graduated from Dodge High School in 1939, and farmed with his parents until he accepted a job with the Corps of Engineers in Kenmare. In 1952, he graduated from Dickinson State College with a bachelor of science degree. He later completed his masters in education from Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D. Vernon taught band and social studies in several schools, including Parshall, New Salem, Turtle Lake and McClusky, retiring in 1990 after 39 years of teaching. He touched many lives in his profession. Vernon and his family looked forward to camping in different national parks each summer. He was an excellent photographer. His 35 m.m. stills and 16 m.m. movies reflect his travels throughout America. These trips have become cherished family memories. His family was the most important thing in his life. He was an excellent musician, and his instrument of choice was the alto saxophone. He and his wife enjoyed playing for different dance dates in the 5-piece band "Something Else." He also enjoyed collecting coins and stamps. Vernon belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Bismarck-Mandan Elks, and the Bismarck-Mandan Retired Teachers Association. He held past membership in the Bismarck Golden K and the Men of Trinity. He is survived by his wife, Coliene; his daughter and son-in-law, Tanna and Jeff Lefor; his son, Andrew, and his fiance, Janelle Walker, and her children, Chad and Liane; his daughter, Karra Lester; two grandsons, Chris and Brian; one brother, Herman; and one sister, Edna Jiran. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; one infant sister, Helen; and two brothers, Victor and Alvin. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center or the Salvation Army.

Daniel F. Jechort
Daniel F. Jechort, 90, Bismarck, formerly of Grafton, died Feb. 19, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Arrangements are pending at Tollefson Funeral Home, Park River.

Agatha Johnson
WILLISTON -- Agatha Johnson, 86, Williston, died Feb. 18, 2000, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Fran Nicholson
BELFIELD -- Fran Nicholson, 69, Sun City, Ariz., died Feb. 17, 2000, in Sun City. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Tuesday at Belfield Lutheran Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, George; two sons, Guy Howie, Fargo, and Ken Howie, Phoenix; stepson, Bill Nicholson, Wichita, Kan., and stepdaughter, Jane Holcomb, Baltimore; six grandchildren; three brothers, Louie Lowenstein, Las Vegas, LeRoy Lowenstein, Bismarck, and Robert Lowenstein, Renton, Wash.; and two sisters, Laura Schumacher, Sacramento, Calif., and Marty Robertson, Montague, Calif.
