Roger A. McKinnon
Roger A. McKinnon, 77, Bismarck, died Jan. 13, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Dave Richter officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. A rosary will be said at 7 tonight at Eastgate Funeral Service. Roger was born May 3, 1923, at St. Paul, Minn., the son of Angus Donald and Anna Marie (Mix) McKinnon. He was raised and educated in Bismarck. Roger graduated from Bismarck High School in 1941, where he starred in football, basketball, tennis and golf. He attended St. Thomas College in Minnesota for one year. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942, where he served in the South Pacific Theatre. He returned from the service and attended and graduated from University of North Dakota Law School. Roger married Sonja Kalberer on Sept. 26, 1959, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. He is survived by his wife, Sonja; one daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Scott Schuster, Minneapolis; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Shane, Granbury, Texas, Todd and Sally, Madison, Wis., and Bruce, Austin, Texas; two granddaughters, Devon and Maika Schuster, Minneapolis; two grandsons, Jake and Trent McKinnon, Madison; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Art Hough, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by four sisters, Catherine Tully, Maybelle Tracey, Helen Moravitz and Anna Marie Ray; and three brothers, Sandy McKinnon, Bill McKinnon and Donald McKinnon.

Ida Rauser
HILLSBORO -- Ida Rauser, 76, Hillsboro, died Jan. 12, 2001, in a Roseau, Minn. hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Hillsboro. She is survived by three sons, Llewellyn, Caledonia, Kyle, Roseau, and Claire, Kindred; one daughter, Lael Shoemaker, Pamona, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Gottlieb Miiller, Harvey, and Ernest Mueller, Klamath Falls, Ore.; and two sisters, Ella Mehl and Hildegard Heydt, both of Drake. John Schlafman
TURTLE LAKE -- John Schlafman, 77, Turtle Lake, died Jan. 11, 2001, in the Turtle Lake hospital after a long battle with cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with burial in Turtle Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30-8 p.m. today at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake, and will continue at the church one hour before services. John was born Sept. 1, 1923, at Mercer, to Carl and Emelia (Laib) Schlafman. He grew up on his parents farm six miles southeast of Mercer where he attended rural school. As a young man he farmed and ranched with his father. He married Laura M. Reiser on July 28, 1945, at Mercer. They farmed and ranched southwest of McClusky. In 1961, they moved to Mercer and owned and operated John's Standard Service and Cafe. In 1966 they moved to Turtle Lake and John worked as a salesman for the John Deere dealership, Lake Farm Store. In 1971 he began working as a truck driver for the Lindteigen Construction Co. of Turtle Lake. He retired in 1984. He was a handyman and enjoyed helping friends and neighbors. He had hobbies of hunting, fishing and gardening. He was well known in the area for his great pickles. He is survived by his wife, Laura; one son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Shirley, Beulah; two daughters and one son-in-law, Elaine Wahl, and Linda and Stanley Harr, all of Turtle Lake; eight grandchildren, Michael, Mark and Paul Schlafman, Danielle Wahl, Melissa and Bobbi Harr, and Christian and Zach Weelihan; four great-grandchildren, Hadley Schlafman, Andrew and Shania Harr, and Brandyn Schauer; one sister, Darlene Sahr, Porcupine, S.D.; and four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Herbert, Bismarck, Reuben and Martha, Jamestown, Arnold and Nan, Loon Lake, Wash., and Eugene and Marilyn, Florence, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Loren; two brothers; and two sisters-in-law.

Ida Anderson
Ida Anderson, 89, Bismarck, died Jan. 22, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Bottineau, with burial in Oak Creek Cemetery, Bottineau. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Ida A. Anderson, a daughter of Julius and Augusta (Heuer) Gonitzke, was born on the family farm near Kramer, on March 22, 1911. She was raised and educated at Kramer. On Feb. 15, 1928, she was married to Edmund G. Klebe at Bottineau, and in 1945 the couple moved to Grand Forks. Mr. Klebe later passed away. She taught ceramics, and was affiliated with the Ceramics Association in Grand Forks. In 1972, she moved to Bismarck. She was later married to Jack Anderson, and he passed away a number of years ago. Except for a few years living in Bottineau, she has made her home in Bismarck since. While living in Grand Forks, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and the women's organizations within the church. In Bismarck she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Senior Citizen's groups in Bismarck, including the Swing Band, and other musical groups. She is survived by one daughter, Carole Klebe, Bismarck; one daughter-in-law, Myrtle Klebe, Des Plains, Ill.; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Augusta Bauch, Puyallup, Wash.; and one brother, Elmer Gonitzke, Inkster. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Virgil; her parents; five sisters; and six brothers. Memorials are preferred to Shepherd Hills Retreat at Bottineau, or Zion Lutheran Church in Bismarck.

Marie Becher
GLEN ULLIN -- Marie Becher, 92, Glen Ullin, died Jan. 23, 2001, in Glen Ullin. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Hebron, with burial in Glen Ullin cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Friday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Marie was born July 12, 1908, in Gluecksthal, South Russia, the daughter of John and Rosina (Gutjahr) Unruh. She came to the United States in 1911 with her family and spent the first winter in Hosmer, S.D. In 1912 they moved to an area 10 miles south of Zap, where they lived and sought shelter under an overturned wagon box, until her father could get the sod house built. Marie was raised and educated in that area. She began working for other families in the area. She married Emil Becher, Oct. 1, 1929, at Beulah. They farmed for many years. Emil died in February 1963. Marie continued to reside on the farm until 1974 when she moved into Glen Ullin. She entered Marian Manor in September 1999, where she has resided since. Marie enjoyed quilting, crocheting and German cooking. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Doris, Almont; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mardella and Wayne Carter, Glen Ullin, and Elaine and Ken Reich, Zap; one daughter-in-law, Cookie Becher, Sacramento, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ed Unruh, Zap, and Dave Unruh, Victor, Mont. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Betty Moos; two sons, Gordon and Walter; one sister, Rose; two brothers, John and Fred; and one granddaughter, Wyonne.

Elizabeth Boger
GARRISON -- Elizabeth Boger, 92, Garrison, died Jan. 22, 2001, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Assembly of God Church, Garrison, with burial in Garrison Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters, Agnes Boyd, Deming, N.M., Jean Swartz, Yellville, Ark., and Betty Mautz, Garrison; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. (Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison)

Mark W. Ellingson
WASHBURN -- Mark W. Ellingson, 55, Mandan, formerly of Washington, died Jan. 19, 2001, in a car fire west of Mandan. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Washburn. Further arrangements are pending at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

Heidi Lee Erb
Heidi Lee Erb, 27, formerly of Minot, died Jan. 19, 2001. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Green Acres Mortuary, Chapel of Light, Scottsdale, Ariz. She is survived by her parents, Jay Erb, and Jonell and Bob Gendreau; her grandparents, Jim and Yvonne Erb, and Charles and June Sandstrom; and her brother, Troy Officer. The family prefers memorials to Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, 8181 Professional Pl., Suite 110, Landover, Md. 20785-2226.

John A. Fettig
NAPOLEON -- John A. Fettig, 72, Napoleon, died Jan. 23, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three sons, Rich, Phoenix, Ronald and Kenneth, both of Napoleon; two daughters, Carol Wentz and Connie Schumacher, both of Napoleon; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Frank and Joe, both of Napoleon. Sid P. Goulet
Sid P. Goulet, Mandan, formerly of Walhalla, died Jan. 23, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; four daughters, Carol Byron, Glendive, Mont., Valorie Clifford, Milbank, S.D., LaRae Yeado, Bismarck, and Renita Mostad, Mandan; one son, Leland, Glendive, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Louis Goulet. Harry Edward Heidt
WIBAUX, Mont. -- The Rev. Harry Edward Heidt, 67, Douglas, Wyo., formerly of Wibaux, died Jan. 23, 2001, in Douglas. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Douglas Assembly of God Church, with burial in Douglas Park Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Pat; two sons, Sterling, Douglas, and Troy, Upton, Wyo.; one daughter, Shirley Heidt, Minneapolis; six grandchildren; two brothers, Bob, Stillwell, Okla., and Fred, Mount Auburn, Iowa; and three sisters, Ramona Freiling, Grundy Center, Iowa, Mary Hilton, Overgaard, Ariz., and Bonnie Cavin, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. John T. House
GRACE CITY -- John T. House, 50, Orange Park, Fla., formerly of Grace City, died Jan. 20, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, with burial in Carrington Cemetery. He is survived by two brothers, Christopher, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Joseph, Amenia; and one sister, Clarice Snow, Kensal.

George L. Johnson
WILTON -- George L. Johnson, 85, Bismarck, formerly of Wilton, died Jan. 23, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunne Lutheran Church, Wilton, with the Rev. Paul Schauer officiating. Burial will be in Regan Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Boelter Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. George was born March 29, 1915, at Wilton, the son of Conrad and Hazel (Newman) Johnson. He attended rural school in Estherville Township. George married Florence Solberg, Feb. 10, 1942, in Bismarck. They farmed the family farm in Estherville Township. Florence died in 1973. George retired from active farming in 1978. He moved to Bismarck, where he divided his time between Bismarck and his summer home on the river near Washburn. George continued to stay involved with his farm. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. His interests with wildlife and the environment led him to receive Soil Conservation Recognition for his efforts. He was a member of Sunne Lutheran Church and a past member of Estherville Township Board and Regan Cemetery Association. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Robert Oswald, Wilton, and Gayle and Max Laird, Thompson; one granddaughter, Ashley Oswald, Oxnard, Calif.; a special friend, Arlene Olson, Bismarck, and her children and grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadine and her husband, Robert Noble, and Marlys Trygg, all of Seattle; and one brother-in-law, Rollin Michelsen, Polsbow, Wash. Three sisters, Velma Darst, Helen Cox and Doris Michelsen, preceded him in death. Memorials are preferred to Regan Cemetery Association or the Parish Nurse Program at Sunne Lutheran Church.

Donald J. McAdoo
WASHBURN -- Donald J. McAdoo, 76, Washburn, died Jan. 23, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Washburn, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. He is survived by his wife, Jo; two sons, James, Surrey, and Brent, Washburn; one daughter, Shelly Torr, Bantry; five grandchildren; one sister, Ella Mae Earl, Puyallup, Wash.; and one brother, Bob, Hensler. Vina Njaa, 90, Bismarck, died Jan. 24, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Lorina Pfingsten
HAZEN -- Lorina Pfingsten, 87, Hazen, died Jan. 24, 2001, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. Walter Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, north of Hazen. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Knife River Care Center, Beulah, and will continue from 3-7 p.m. Friday at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen. Lorina was born Nov. 20, 1913, at Hazen, to William and Theresa (Hintz) Christmann. She was raised and educated at Hazen. On Jan. 5, 1940, she married August Pfingsten Sr. at Hazen. They farmed in the Wheatland-Embden area and in 1953, she moved with her two children to Hazen. She worked as a housekeeper in Hazen and later as a dietary aid at both Hazen hospitals until retirement. She liked raising big gardens of vegetables and flowers. She also liked sewing, quilting and embroidery. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lorina would rather be helping others than have others helping her. Lorina is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Paul Reinhardt, Hazen; four granddaughters and their husbands, Lynette and Lewis Hinckley, Bismarck, LeAnn Reinhardt, Fargo, Tammy and Karvin Tilander, Reno, Nev., and Debbie and Khalid Shaikh, Savage, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Christopher and Aaron Tilander, Reno, and Lofton and Lauryn Hinckley, Bismarck; six step-children, Dorothy Booth, Colorado, Evelyn Kudeo, Renton, Wash., Gladys Wallace, Fessenden, August Pfingsten, Leonard, LeRoy Pfingsten, Durbin, and Glen Pfingsten, Embden; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Frances Christmann, Steele, Albert and Mardella Christmann, Hazen, Sam Christmann, Driscoll, and Maggie Christmann, Bismarck; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Paulena Christmann, Maryland, Sylvia Major, Olympia, Wash., and Rose Mary and Ron Loutzenheiser, Payson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William E. Gardner; and two stepsons, Orville and Gordon Pfingsten.

Marie Schwarting
NEW SALEM -- Marie Schwarting, 85, New Salem, died Jan. 23, 2001, in the New Salem care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Friday at Peace Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-noon Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church. Marie was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Bongetorro, Italy, the daughter of GioVanni and Teresa (Cocci) DeVincenzi. When she was 14 years old, her family moved to London, England, where she worked as a waitress. She met LeRoy Schwarting in London's Hyde Park and they were married on Aug. 18, 1945. She and LeRoy took over the family farm northwest of New Salem. They retired and moved into town in 1979. She was a lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of Peace Church. Marie is survived by her husband and best friend, LeRoy; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Floyd Freiberg, Fond Du Lac, Wis.; her son, Dwight, New Salem; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Ray Schwarting and his wife, Carol, New Salem; her sister-in-law, Nora Klusmann, New Salem; and many nieces and nephews, including her niece, Linda Ash and her husband, Martin, of London. Marie was preceded in death by her son, Clark; one sister, Louise; and her brother-in-law, Ervin Klusmann.

Cecile Mae Shirley
JAMESTOWN -- Cecile Mae Shirley, 87, Jamestown, died Jan. 22, 2001, in a Jamestown care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Valley City. She is survived by six daughters, Barbara Eberly, Peoria, Ariz., Sharon Machnis, Fenton, Mich., Linda Krapu, Glendale, Ariz., Susan Lawrence, Jamestown, Ellaura Ukofia, Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Rhonda Eichhom, Fargo; four sons, Lauren, Cheyenne, Wyo., Norman, Jamestown, Jon, Gillette, Wyo., and Robert, Rigby, Idaho; one sister, Fern Bostrom, East Grand Forks, Minn.; two brothers, Lauren Overby, Harbor Heights, Texas, and George Overby, Tempe, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

DICKINSON -- Robert A. Silbernagel, 63, Dickinson, died Jan. 23, 2001, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Friday at Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman, with burial in Tuttle Cemetery, Rhame. He is survived by his mother, Marian Silbernagel, Bowman; two sons, Kurt, Dickinson, and Dave, Steele; one daughter, Beth Timm, Rhame; two brothers, Jim, Pierre, S.D., and Jerry, Black Hawk, S.D.; two sisters, Jane Silbernagel, Bowman, and Joann Marsh, Bismarck; and four grandchildren.
