DICKINSON -- Aletha Blunt, 90, Dickinson, died July 27, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. PDT Tuesday, at Bell Passi Mausoleum, Woodburn, Ore. She is survived by her sister, Helen Meland, San Diego, Calif.; one son, Donald Blunt, Dickinson; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Donald Boyd
DICKINSON -- Donald Boyd, 57, Dickinson, died July 26, 2000 in a Bimsarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with burial in Dawson County Cemetery, Glendive, Mont. at 3 p.m. MDT Saturday. He is survived by his wife, Leora; three daughters, Denise Meier, Bismarck, Donnette Woodbury, Williston, and Dana Schmitcke, Bismarck; five grandchildren; one sister, JoAnn Parini, Baker, Mont.; and one brother, Richard, Helena, Mont. Ernest G. Cermak
Ernest G. Cermak, 83, 1302 N. Frontier Trail, Mandan, died July 26, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday, with a parish vigil at 4 p.m. Sunday, followed by a Moose Ritual at 7 p.m. Sunday, all at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at Spirit of Life Catholic Church. Ernest was born on Jan. 20, 1917 in Mandan, the son of James and Mary (Mrnak) Cermak. He was raised and educated in rural Morton County. On July 4, 1936, he married Ann Bullinger, in St. Anthony. They both farmed south of Mandan until 1960, and then moved to Mandan, where he owned and operated the Mobile Service Station until 1967, then started working for NW Oil until his retirement in 1980. Ernest viewed work as something that was done first, then it was time to relax. He enjoyed his hobbies which included horseshoe, fishing, hunting, gardening, playing ball and dancing, all of which he did with his family. He appreciated driving throughout North Dakota, every square mile, to look at the cropland, grasslands, farms and ranches. He brought the wonders of nature into his backyard, feeding the birds, squirrels and rabbits. He approached life open, positive and always with a sense of humor. The highlight in all of this was the love shared of being with his family. He was a charter member of the Mandan Moose and member of the Mandan Eagles Club. He is survived by his wife, Ann; three sons and daughters-in-law, Cleon and Karen, Judson, Vernon and Sheryl, and Duane and Jan, all of Bismarck; three daughters and sons-in-law, Erna and Gregor Schmidt, and Debbie and Rick Kruckenberg, all of Mandan, and Edna and Wes Miska, Springfield, Mo.; 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Wenzel and Katherine, Mandan; and one sister, Nettie Zent, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jim; one grandson, Darnell Cermak; and three sisters, Nancy Shimek, Carolyn Vojtisek and Mary Frank. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Brian Finck
Brian Finck, 26, Bismarck, died July 27, 2000 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in South Dakota. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Fern Lila Lillibridge
WATFORD CITY -- Fern Lila Koeser Lillibridge, 82, rural Watford City, died July 26, 2000 in the Watford City hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Watford City Wesleyan Church, with burial in Schafer Cemetery, Watford City. She is survived by three sons, Lester and William, both of Watford City, and Wesley, Scott City, Mo.; one daughter, Jean Frase, Siloam Spring, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Koeser, Watford City, and Raymond Koeser, Barumph, Nev.; and one sister, Pearl Lovass, Paradise, Calif. Ruth Makeeff
TURTLE LAKE -- Ruth Makeeff, 86, Federal Way, Wash., and formerly of Turtle Lake, died July 27, 2000 in an Auburn, Wash. hospital. Arrangements are pending with Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake.

Ann Pfennig
DRISCOLL -- Ann Pfennig, 65, Driscoll, died July 27, 2000 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Grace Lutheran Church, Driscoll, with the Rev. Jo Olson officiating. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Ann was born Feb. 15, 1935 at Baldwin, to Herbert and Dorothy (Sheldon) Fricke. She was raised and educated in Baldwin and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1952. She married Eugene "Butch" Pfennig in Bismarck on March 8, 1953. From 1954 to 1956, she worked for the Boy Scouts office in Bismarck, 1956-1978 for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Kidder County, and from 1978 to 1998, she worked for H.O.M.E. Insurance in Steele. Ann was an anchor for her family and her community. She was a dedicated wife, and devoted mother. She worked tirelessly to improve everything around her, in the community and church, and in business, home and family. Ann demonstrated this pursuit of excellence through her service to others. In business, Ann was widely known for her dedication to customers... and her friendship to all. And, Ann was fiercely proud of her family, as they were of her. Ann always worked to improve the lot of those around her, and through example continuously set the standard for all. When we miss her we must remember to look inward to that part of Ann that lives on in all of us. She is survived by her husband, Butch; two daughters and one son-in-law, Judith and David Denson, Clifton, Va., and Shelly Marnne, Fayetteville, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Alice Pfennig, Janesville, Minn., Kent and Catherine Pfennig, Driscoll; two sisters, Lola Fricke, Denver, Colo., and Maxine Fricke, Jamestown; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Neil and Joan Fricke, and Pat and Carol Fricke, all of Bismarck, Orren and Marmie Fricke, Grandview, Wash., and Boyd Fricke, Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren, Jessica Marnne, Joshua and Rachel Pfennig, Allen, Kelene and Jacob Pfennig, Elizabeth and Daniel Denson. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Kristen. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

Peggy A. Schonert
Peggy A. Schonert, 52, Bismarck, died July 27, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital of cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Delbert Cale Shipman
WATFORD CITY -- Delbert Cale "Del" Shipman, 82, died July 26, 2000, in the Watford City hospital after a short illness of cancer. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, at the First Lutheran Church, Watford City. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today and 1-6 p.m. Sunday, both at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service on Monday. From his birth in Donnelly, Minn. on June 4, 1918 to Fred and Martha Shipman, Del has been constantly associated with the newspaper industry, except for 3 1/2 years with the U.S. Army during World War II. During Del's high school days in Leeds, he learned the printing trade in the shop at the Leeds News, which his father published. After graduation, his first job was working at the Columbus (N.D.) Reporter. In the spring of 1938, he left Columbus to go to a commercial shop in Pontiac, Ill. He remained in Illinois until the spring of 1939 when he took a job as operator-printer at the Winner (SD) Advocate. Del married Ruth Irene Sargent on Sept. 7, 1941 in Winner, S.D. He was drafted into the Army in 1942 and spent 3 1/2 years with the 78th Infantry Division, 18 months of which was in the European Theater. Upon his discharge from the Armed Services, Del returned to the Winner Advocate. In 1960, he moved his family to Watford City to become editor-manager of the McKenzie County Farmer. While officially retiring as editor-manager of the Farmer in 1983, Del remained active in the affairs of the paper serving as president of the McKenzie County Farmers Publishing Company. During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending his winters in Arizona, as well as golfing, watching baseball, camping, pheasant hunting and being with his grandchildren. Always active in community affairs, Del was a director of the Watford City Association of Commerce, as well as the president of the Watford City Rotary Club. He was president of the North Dakota Newspaper Association in 1968. In addition to his community involvement, Del was also appointed to serve on the North Dakota Bicentennial Commission. He also served on the prestigious Rocky Mountain National Park Service Advisory Committee. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Watford City and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz. Del is survived by his wife, Ruth, and four sons and grandchildren: Cale and his wife, Marcia, and daughter, Tonya of Rutland, Vt.; Neal, and his wife, Lisa, and sons, Justin and Jason of Watford City; Dale and his daughter, Taylor of Kansas City, Mo.; and Glen and his wife, Deborah, and daughter, Holly, Bismarck; two brothers, Don Shipman and his wife, Betty of Troy, Ohio; Alton Shipman, and his wife, Dolores of Weed, Calif.; and two stepbrothers, Dick MacDougall of Missoula, Mont.; and Doug MacDougall, and his wife, Ingrid, of Mandeville, La. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Anna F. Skalicky
Anna F. Skalicky, 81, died on July 27, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Scranton, with the Rev. John Mathai officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. CDT Sunday, with a parish rosary said at 7:30 p.m. CDT that evening, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will continue for two hours prior to the service at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Scranton. Anna was born on June 30, 1919 in Grant County, the daughter of Wendelin and Katherine (Waliser) Gerwick. She lived in St. Paul, Minn. and Chicago, Ill. area before moving to Scranton in 1949. She married George J. Skalicky on Feb. 21, 1950 at Scranton, where they operated an electrical business until George's death on Nov. 24, 1961. Anna moved to Mandan in 1964, where she was employed with George's Bakery from 1965 until her retirement in 1981. She was a resident of Liberty Heights until she entered the Medcenter One Care Center in October 1995. She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Anton and Mary Gerwick, Medford, Ore., and George and Betty Miller, Dickinson and Amidon; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ida and Al Halweg, Bismarck, and Theckla Jasper, Bensenville, Ill.; plus numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Joseph Gerwik, one sister and brother-in-law, Bertha and Denis Hansey; two brothers-in-law, Donald Jasper and Norman Wiedmann, Sr.; two nephews, Mitchel Hansey and Norman Wiedmann Jr., and one niece, Noelene Hansey Schaff. Vernon E. Solum
Vernon E. Solum Sr., 76, died at his home under Hospice care on July 27, 2000 and he's gone running down the Streets of Gold after Pauline, his wife of 54 years. May God bless them both and grant them an eternity of love together. Funeral Services will be held at the Church of Corpus Christi today at 10 a.m., with burial in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, Mandan at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Vern was born Sept. 25, 1923 in Edina, Minn. to Elmer and Eva (Gish) Solum. He married Pauline Berger on Dec. 17, 1945 in Mandan. Vern loved bowling and especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Pauline, to various destinations throughout the United States. Vern was honorably discharged veteran of World War II, and he was a member of AmVets, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a retired member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local No. 300 and was an active member of the Rusty Pipes for retired plumbers and fitters. Vern is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Vernon Jr. and wife, Sharon Solum, Fargo; four daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Dennis Daniel, Mandan; Jacquelyn and Michael Hennessy, Williston, Jocelyn and William Schneider, Mandan, and Rosalyn and Steve Norstedt, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Donna Solum, New York; two sisters, Marian Helmenstein, Bismarck, and Marge Mongillo, New Haven, Conn.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; his parents and three brothers. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Max Anseth
Max Anseth, 16, Mandan, died June 30, 2000, in his home of natural causes. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Monday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Max was born Feb. 9, 1984, in Bismarck, the son of Linda (Moen) and Thomas Anseth. He attended BECEP, Mandan Preschool, Roosevelt Elementary School and Mandan Junior High. Music was an important part of life for Max and he particularly enjoyed country western. A trip to Nashville in 1992 courtesy of the Make a Wish Foundation was very special to Max and his family. He dearly loved his family and friends. He found exceptional comfort in the presence of his sister, Kara, and enjoyed her beautiful flute music. Max especially liked ice cream. Max was a dear child whose life touched the hearts of all who knew him. He taught us much and will be missed by those who survive him, including his parents, Tom and Linda Anseth; his sister and brothers, Kara, Stephen and Christopher Anseth, all of Mandan; his grandmother, Maxine Anseth, Lakota; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold Anseth; his grandparents, Alfred and Myrtle Moen; and his sister, Jill Anseth, who died in 1991.

MCHENRY -- Eugene Becker, 73, McHenry, died July 1, 2000, in Carrington. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Saints Peter and Paul Church, McHenry, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; three sons, Steven, Bismarck, Mark, McHenry, and Tim, New Rockford; two daughters, Janet Edlund, McHenry, and Diana Carney, Scobey, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Yanke, St. Cloud, Minn., and Betty Smith, McHenry; and one brother, Edward, Mapleton, Minn. Mildred Love Cox, 81, Hemet, Calif., died June 25, 2000, at her home. Services were held June 29th, with burial in Arlington National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif. She is survived by three sisters, Marion Payette, California, June Mayo, Riverside, Calif., and Delores Devlen, Sun Lakes, Ariz.

NEW ENGLAND -- Rose Frank, 88, New England, died June 30, 2000, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New England, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by five sons, Edward and Aaron, both of Dickinson, Ernest, Bowman, Wilbert, Hettinger, and David, New England; one daughter, Josephine Wosepka, Vancouver, Wash.; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Kostelecky, Jamestown, Lena Brogan, Rochester, Minn., and Monica Kinsey, Lake Tahoe, Nev.
