Pius Gisinger
Pius Gisinger, 78, Mandan, died of cancer on June 3, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, with full committal service by the Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 707 and the American Legion Post 40. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, both at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Pius was born on Aug. 11, 1921 in Linton, the son of John and Regina (Roehrich) Gisinger. He was raised and educated in Linton. Pius married Edna Preabt on April 15, 1943. He served in the US Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1946 with service duty in California and the Aleutian Islands. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Service Medal and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. During his career as an auto mechanic, he was employed by Dealer ReMann, Universal Ford, McCarney Ford, Herman's Auto Clinic, Larry's Auto Repair, Carl's Foreign Car Clinic and Cal's Car Clinic. He retired in 1985. He came out of retirement in 1987 to work with his son, Richard, at Quality Service and Repair, Mandan, where he continued to work until October 1998 when he became ill. He was a member and past governor of the Bismarck Moose, and a member of the Bismarck Eagles, VFW and American Legion. Pius was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He especially loved the "little Ones." He enjoyed playing cards and reading western paperbacks. He particularly enjoyed watching old westerns on TV as well as pro wrestling. He is survived by one daughter, Betty Brilz, Bismarck; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Patricia Gisinger, Mandan, Roger and Marie Gisinger, and Kevin and Lorie Gisinger, all of Bismarck; his grandchildren and their spouses, Terri (Brilz) and Dan Schonert, Jenny (Brilz) and John Kringstad, Lynn (Brilz) and Don Metzger, Kim (Gisinger) and Phil Davis, Brenda (Gisinger) and Bill Weiand, Sandy (Gisinger) and Jason Frank, Rick Gisinger, John and Chris Gisinger, and Greg, Matthew and Ryan Gisinger; his great-grandchildren, Ethan, Joe and Amber Schonert, Mikaila and Kolton Kringstad, Tori and Justin Metzger, Derek and Kelly Davis, and Joshua and Alexander Weiand; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Regina Horning, and Lizzie Benefit, Hermiston, Ore., Eva Mosset, Linton, Barbara and Ray Faith, Yakima, Wash., and one sister-in-law, Ann Gisinger, Pendleton, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John and Ambrose; his sister, Johanna; one infant sister, Catherine; and his son-in-law, Clarence Brilz.

W. Roger Hinger
JAMESTOWN -- W. Roger Hinger, 69, Jamestown, died June 3, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown, with burial in New Home Cemetery, New Home. He is survived by his wife, Jessie; his mother, Sarah Hinger; four children, William, Antioch, Tenn., James, Jamestown, Darrell, Grand Forks, and Randall, LaVergne, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Larry, Montrose, Calif., and Myron, Medina; and one sister, Sharon Meier, Portland, Ore. Pius N. Hoffart
Pius N. Hoffart, 88, Bismarck, died June 4, 2000 in a local hospital. Arrangements are pending with Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.

Agnes E. Hoiby
DICKINSON -- Agnes E. Hoiby, 88, longtime Hettinger Co. educator, died June 3, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Tuesday, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elgin, with the Rev. Wayne Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. MDT today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott, and prior to the service at the church. Agnes Espeland was born on Aug. 18, 1911 in Merrill Township, Hettinger Co., southeast of Mott, to Samuel and Hilda (Lundberg) Espeland. She grew up on the farm and attended rural school, graduating from Mott Lincoln High School. She then attended Dickinson Normal College and received her teachers certificate. She began teaching in 1929 at the age of 18. She furthered her education over the years. During World War II, she worked in the shipyards as a fitter in Seattle, Wash. In 1945, she returned to Mott to continue her career in education. On Dec. 1, 1948, she was married to Prokop Svihovec at Mott. He farmed in the Adams Co. area and she continued teaching and served as Hettinger Co. Superintendent of Schools. In this capacity, she served Hettinger Co. for 35 1/2 years, holding the longest tenure of any elected official in the history of the county. She was involved in education in the county for 43 1/2 years. Mr. Svihovec died in October of 1968. She was married to Henry Hoiby on Jan. 19, 1973 at Lemmon S.D. and after her retirement in 1979, they enjoyed traveling and spending winter months in Mesa and Apache Junction, Ariz. He passed away on March 15, 1995 and she moved to Evergreen Inn in Dickinson to make her home. She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elgin, a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Iota Chapter and a lifetime member of the National Education Association. She served as Southwest District President and State President of the County Superintendents Assoc. She was particularly fond of traveling, her work and her lifetime of continuing her education. She will be fondly remembered by many students and families she worked with over the years. She is survived by one sister, Alice Wolfe, Centralia, Wash.; four nieces, Shirley Lilledahl, Bloomington, Minn., Arlis Jamerson, Rochester, Wash., Dianne Wiles, Tacoma, Wash., and LaDonna Soukup, Schofield, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two brothers, one in infancy and Arthur Espeland; and two sisters, Hilda Turner and Evelyn Peterson.

John L. Otterberg
John L. Otterberg, 73, Lemmon, S.D., died June 3, 2000 in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday, at Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lemmon, with burial in Black Hills National Cemetery, near Sturgis, S.D. He is survived by his wife, Muriel; one son, Todd, Spearfish, S.D.; one daughter, Terri Firth, New Braunfels, Texas; one sister, Judy Brink, Sturgis; and three grandchildren. Irma Swanson, 80, Lemmon, died June 4, 2000 in a Lemmon nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon.

Adolph Tollefsrud
BOWMAN -- Adolph Tollefsrud, 88, Bowman, and formerly of Rhame, died June 4, 2000 in a Bowman care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church, Rhame, with burial in Tuttle Cemetery, Rhame. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; 11 children, Karen Wenzel, Liberal, Kan., JoAnn Domagala, Bowman, Kenneth, Essexville, Mich., Mary Lou Dvorak, Billings, Mont., Wanda Moor, Bowman, Alan, Reno, Nev., Zetha Stuhr, Willmar, Minn., Milton, Billings, Ardis Schwab, Arvada, Colo., Curtis, Rogerson, Idaho, and Daniel, Pensacola, Fla.; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Borghild DeFoe, Watford City; and one brother, Edwin, Great Falls, Mont. Randy Jay Buckmaster
BALDWIN -- Randy Jay Buckmaster, 31, Baldwin, died June 4, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be in Rich Township Cemetery in Mayville, Mich. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, both at Weigel Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Randy was born on June 23, 1968 in Lapeer, Mich., the son of Jerry and Rose Marie (Rohrer) Buckmaster. He was raised and educated at Mayville, graduating from Mayville High School and continued his education at Michigan State University. On Jan. 8, 1944, he married Lisa Breitzman in Gladstone, Mich. He was employed by United Tribes Technical College and the owner of Buckmaster Cabinet Shop. Randy was an outgoing person who enjoyed fishing, farming, woodworking and animals at his home. He is survived by his expectant wife, Lisa, Baldwin; one son, Andrew, Baldwin; his parents, Jerry and Rose Marie Buckmaster, Mayville, Mich.; his grandmother, Genevieve Rohrer, Lapeer, Mich.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Kim, Mayville, Mich., and Dennis and Mary, Yale, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, Lee and Lonny Breitzman, Escanaba, Mich.; one sister and brother-in-law, the Rev. Lisa and her husband, Patrick McIlvenna, Troy, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Connie Breitzman, Escanaba, Mich. and Julia Breitzman, Lake Tomahawk, Wis.; four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Ralph Rohrer and Dwight Buckmaster, and his grandmother, Caroline Buckmaster. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

MOBRIDGE, S.D. -- Katherine Keszler, 100, Mobridge, died June 3, 2000 in a Mobridge care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at First Baptist Church, Mobridge, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. (Larson's Funeral Home, Mobridge)

Bernard Walsh
Bernard "Bud" Walsh, 64, died June 5, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Ascension Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Ottellia Wentz
Ottellia "Tillie" Wentz, 85, Bismarck, died June 5, 2000 in a local nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Ottelia "Tillie" Wentz was born Nov. 27, 1914 at Eureka, S.D., in McPherson Co. to John and Katie (Libus) Holzworth. She was raised and educated in Eureka. In 1935, she moved with her family to a farm near Streeter. Tillie married Elmer Wentz on July 21, 1938 at Napoleon. In 1968, she moved with her husband and family to Bismarck. In July 1999, she became a resident of Elm Crest Care Center in New Salem. In October 1999 she became a resident of St. Vincent's Care Center in Bismarck. Tillie was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed yardwork and gardening, and especially loved babysitting children. She is survived by her husband, Elmer; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Betty and Roger Becker, and Ed Vetter; her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kat Wentz; four grandsons, Michael Becker, Toby Jenner and Robert and Brandon Vetter; one granddaughter, Bethany Conitz, Bismarck; one great-grandson, Lukas, all of Bismarck; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Arlene Conitz, Bismarck, and Alvina and Charles Hamel, Napoleon; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Eugene and Delores Holzworth, Violet Holzworth, and Edna Holzworth, all ofBismarck; and many nieces and nephews. Tillie was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Shirley Vetter; two baby sons, Norman and James Wentz; her grandson, Brian Becker; two sisters, Rose Holzworth and Edna Kapp; and four brothers, Willie, Edwin, Reuben and Alvin Holzworth. WOODWORTH -- Erma "Virginia" Yule, 80, Enumclaw, Wash., formerly of Woodworth died June 3, 2000 in an Enumclaw care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at American Lutheran Church, Woodworth, with burial in Gem Cemetery, Woodworth. She is survived by her husband, Norman Yule, Enumclaw; a son, Sarles M. Bredeson, Enumclaw; two daughters, Deaon Schlager, Minot, and Gayle Boyer, Enumclaw; two sisters, Evelyn Harr, Monetesano, Wash., and Irene Thompson, Jamestown; a brother, Kenneth Bredeson, Jamestown; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Rose Braunagel
Rose Braunagel, 70, Bismarck, died June 6, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight. Rose was born on Dec. 1, 1928, in Hague, to Joseph and Justina (Holzer) Krumm. She grew up and attended school in Hague, and graduated in 1947. She married Wendelin J. Braunagle on June 19, 1951, in Hague. After marriage they made their home in Bismarck, where they raised their three children. Rose worked at the State Capitol for nine years in environmental services until her retirement. Rose is survived by her husband, Wendelin J.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Perry J. and Jeri, Dickinson, and Timothy J. and Kathy, Gillette, Wyo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Patrick Thill, Mandan; and seven grandchildren, Shannon Braunagel, Kari Kivisto and her husband, Jason, Jacob Braunagel, Wendy Thill, Justine Braunagel, Brett Braunagel and Alex Thill. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Bernadine and Victor Burgad; and one nephew, David Burgad.

Irene Emch
HETTINGER -- Memorial services for Irene Emch, 89, Hettinger, will be held at 3 p.m. MDT Saturday at First Congregational Church, Hettinger. She died Nov. 24, 1999. She is survived by three daughters, Enid Schons, Bloomington, Minn., Lola Brock, Denver, and Glenda Tefre, Bergen, Norway; one son, James, Seattle; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
