Jonah "Joe" Goehner, 78, Bismarck, died Nov. 26, 2000, while vacationing in Ohio. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan, with full military rites provided by VFW Post No. 1326. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. that evening. Joe was born
June 2, 1922 to Marie and Jacob Goehner in Kulm. Moving as a child to Bismarck, he attended Bismarck High, worked various jobs, entered the army and served in World War II. He married
Marion Kant on May 15, 1944 in Bismarck. After the war, he worked at Corwin Churchill and then Schultz Machinery, which became Butler Machinery. He retired in 1984 after 28 years. Joe and Marion raised two daughters, Pat and Mary. Joe spent his retirement enjoying his family, especially his grandchildren's activities and kept busy with woodworking and building projects. Recently he was volunteering his skills at Buckstop Junction. Joe and Marion spent the summer months at their cabin at Lake Isabel near Dawson and the winters in Bismarck. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge No. 1199 and American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Marion of 56 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, and four grandchildren, Pat and Gene Zimmerman, Dawson, and Heather Zimmerman, Bismarck and Bradley Zimmerman, Dawson; and Mary and Bob Maier, Jason and Joel Maier, all of Bismarck. Marcella Howes
Marcella Howes, 94, Mandan, died Nov. 24, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services were held on Nov. 28, 2000 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and burial was in Mandan Union Cemetery. Marcella was born
Dec. 19, 1905, in Gutenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Neises) Pins. At the age of 6, she and her family moved to Dubuque, Iowa, where she attended school. She was married
to Charles Howes in 1923. After her husband, Charles, retired, they moved to Mandan in 1970, where they were residents of LIberty Heights. Charles Sr. died in 1976. Marcella was very active in craft activities at Liberty Heights and played bingo as well. A member of First Baptist Church, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will be missed very much by her loved ones. She is survived by her sons, Maurice, Rapid City, S.D., and Charles Jr., Mandan; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Paul; her sister, Bea Waltson; and her brothers, Don, Edward and Art Pins.
Louise K. Kobs
Louise K. Treute Kobs, daughter of Louis and Minne Oelke Treute. She died in Victorsville, Calif. hospital on Nov. 15. She was 88 years old. She was married
to Waldemar J. Kobs in 1935. Services were held at Sunset Hills Chapel, Victorsville, Calif. She was sent home for burial at Mandan Union Cemetery. She leaves a daughter, Virginia Simmons, Hesperia, Calif.; one son, Dale Kobs, San Bernardino, Calif.; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Kobs, Hesperia; three in-laws, Alma Conitz, New Salem, August Kobs, Center, and Lucy Kobs, New Salem; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Louise lived in California since 1960. She retired in 1979. Her last job was an apartment manager in Victorsville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three children and two grandchildren.
