Anton Wetch
Anton P. Wetch, 80, Bismarck, died March 31, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon Thursday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a rosary and vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Chapel. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Anton was born icon Jan. 20, 1921, in Bismarck, the sonof Stanley and Anna (Glasser) Wetch. He was raised and educated in Bismarck. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945.

On Sept. 19, 1945, Anton married icon Aldina Baumiller in Bismarck. He worked for Davis Chevrolet Body Shop for many years and retired from Connie's Body Shop.

Anton enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

He is survived by his wife, Aldina; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Myrna Wetch, and Dennis and Dee Wetch, all of Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Floyd Hochhalter, Victor, Mont.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ida Dockter, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Melissa A. Wetch; one brother, Frank; and three sisters, Pauline, Alex and Eleanor.

Harry Wiege
HEBRON -- Harry Wiege, 67, Hebron, died April 1, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Hebron, with burial in the church cemetery.

Harry was born icon Sept. 27, 1933, near Richardton, the son of Henry and Rebecca (Scheuffele) Wiege. He was raised and educated near Richardton. In August 1952 he began work with the Hebron Brick Co. where he drove truck until his retirement in August 1995. He married icon Dorene Doll, April 26, 1956, at St. Joe near Glen Ullin.

He was a member of Eagles, and had been a Hebron fireman and a Jaycee.

He is survived by his wife, Dorene; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and Jesse Voltz, Richardton, and Dawn and Brian Frederick, Gwinner; one son and daughter-in-law, Darson and Teri Wiege, Minneapolis; six grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Kitzan, Hebron, and Edna Wiege, Salem, Ore.; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Arlene, Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Esther and Eleanor; and one brother, Edwin. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

John Anderson
John Anderson, 70, Bismarck, died April 3, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Private services will be held at a later date. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Marc Bender
Marc S. Bender, 30, Masonville, Colo., died April 2, 2001, in Fort Collins, Colo. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, with the Rev. Bradley Bauer officiating. Organist will be Theresa Petersen. Casketbearers will be Kevin Adams, Garth Stevens, Shane Stevens, Dean Miller, Martin Olsen and Bryan Thomas. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Marc Stevens Bender was born icon June 11, 1970, in Fargo, to Richard and Janis (Stevens) Bender. He moved to Washburn with his parents in 1973, where he attended school and was active in basketball. He graduated in 1989. He attended N.D. State College of Science at Wahpeton for two years and became certified as an electrician. He moved to Colorado and worked as an electrician and was currently self-employed.

Marc enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and water sports.

He is survived by his mother, Janis (Jim) Stoppler, Washburn; his father, Richard (Mary) Bender, Mandan; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Kimberly and Mitch Von Bank, Wahpeton, and Stephanie Bender, Bismarck; one stepsister, Kelly Kraft, Sioux Falls, S.D.; his grandfather, Elmer Bender, Washburn; two aunts and one uncle, Deborah and Martin Olsen, Mandan, and Lahna Kraft, Denver, Colo.; two nieces, Jerika and Jada Von Bank; and three cousins, Shane and Garth Stevens and Jessica Olsen.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenyon and Marian Stevens and Marilyn Bender; and one uncle, Ron Stevens.

Erwin Finck
BURT -- Erwin Finck, 91, Burt, died April 2, 2001, in a Mott care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Thursday at Zoar Congregational Church, Mott, with the Rev. Corey Warner officiating. Serving as casketbearers are Beau Finck, Lance Olson, Steve Olson, Fred Petrasck, Shawn DeKeyser and Girish Patel. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. MDT today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Erwin Finck was born icon Oct. 28, 1909, in Elgin, to Adam and Julia (Peltz) Finck. He earned his education while growing up in the Elgin and Heil areas. In 1931, Erwin married icon Olga Rekow. She died in 1943. On March 2, 1944, Erwin married icon Anna Fischer of Carson. He began his 35-year career with the Birdsall Elevator Company in Elgin in 1946. In 1955, the family moved to Burt where he managed the elevator until retiring in 1981.

Erwin entered Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott on March 12, 1999. He passed from this life there Monday, April 2, at the age of 91 years, three months and four days.

Erwin was a member of Zoar Congregational Church. His favorite pastimes were watching the Minnesota Twins on TV, playing pinochle and winning in the game of Aggravation.

Erwin will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna; two sons and daughters-in-law, Perry and MiChelle Finck, Mott, and Roy Finck and Ines Wynn, Spokane, Wash.; one daughter, Gloria Olson, Bismarck; five grandchildren, Lance Olson and his wife Rhonda, Bismarck, Steve Olson, Minneapolis, Minn., Lori and her husband Shawn DeKeyser, Mapleton, Minn., and Beau Finck and Elliott Finck, both of Mott; four great-grandchildren, Kyler and Jaren Olson and Monica and Justin DeKeyser; one brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Monica Finck, Mandan; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Nelda and Adam Bullinger, Mott, Agnes and Tony Ciavarella, Bismarck, and Luetta and Ed Kelly, Spokane, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Melvin, Larry and Ray; his first wife, Olga; his parents, Adam and Julia Finck; three brothers, Albert, Rueben and Raphael Finck; and three sisters, Elsie Mae, Esther Kohl and Gladys Valk.

Margaret Garvin
Margaret Garvin, 91, formerly of Bismarck, died April 2, 2001, in Columbus, Ga. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Marjorie Langford
Marjorie Langford, 80, Bismarck, formerly of Washburn, died April 3, 2001, at her home. Arrangements are pending with Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

Evelyn McMonagle
Evelyn K. McMonagle, 79, died April 1, 2001, in a Pryor, Okla., hospital from cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 14 at Peace Lutheran Church, Lincoln.

She is survived by two sons, Steve, Valley City, and Mike, Lincoln; two daughters, Dian Berger, Pryor, Okla., and Neta McDonald, Lincoln; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jake Aldinger, Garrison, and Lawrence Aldinger, Bismarck; and two sisters, Elsie Mankin and Helen Landenberger, Lakewood, Colo.

Mabel Naplin
Mabel Naplin, 55, St. Hilaire, Minn., died April 2, 2001, in a Thief River Falls, Minn., medical center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Black River Lutheran Church, rural St. Hilaire. Burial will be in Black River Cemetery, Polk Centre Township, Minn.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; two sons, Brian, St. Hilaire, and Scott, Becker, Minn.; one granddaughter; one brother, George Schwede, Bismarck; and two sisters, June Moore, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Rosemary Wetzel, North Bend, Ore. (Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, Minn.)

Gladys Ost
ELLENDALE -- Gladys H. Ost, 71, Ellendale, died April 3, 2001, in an Ellendale care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale. Further arrangements are pending with Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.

Ida Reinhardt
BEULAH -- Ida Reinhardt, 84, Beulah, died April 1, 2001, in a Beulah care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. Burial will be in the city cemetery.

She is survived by her children, Judy Buechler, Gillette, Wyo., Cindy Entze, South Haven, Minn., Janice Hoiland, Deering, and Larry Reinhardt, Thelma Ziegler, Darwin Reinhardt and Alvin Reinhardt, all of Beulah; two stepdaughters, Tarlene Cox, Wilbur, Wash., and Betty Meissner, Maplewood, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two brothers, Ivan Brunmeier and Clarence Brunmeier, both of Hazen; and three sisters, Edna Kittler, Beulah, Erna Baesler, Hazen, and Lorine Strand, Elizabeth, Minn. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Claire Schmidt
Claire A. deRochford Schmidt, 84, 302 W. Custer Park St., Bismarck, died April 2, 2001, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with Deacon Jim Ressler officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m.

Claire was born icon in Bismarck on Oct. 9, 1916, the daughter of Leo "Molly" and Edna (Cass) deRochford. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1933 and attended the University of Minnesota, where she graduated in 1939 with a degree in journalism.

Claire traveled to the West Coast after college and eventually moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where she worked at the Provost Marshals Office at Luke Field Air Base. In the intervening years she had kept up correspondence with Robert Schmidt, a childhood friend from Bismarck, who had begun his career in the Navy in 1934. After World War II Robert, by then a Chief Warrant Officer, USN, came to Phoenix and proposed. He and Claire were married icon in the chapel at Luke Field Nov. 29, 1945.

Claire took to Navy life and enjoyed it until retirement in March 1965. She enjoyed living on islands like Kwajalein in the Pacific, where she developed a lifelong passion for seashells, and Malta in the Mediterranean, which has a rich history dating back from the time of the Crusades. She loved traveling in Africa, Spain, England, Europe, Turkey and Greece, where her facility for foreign languages found expression as she learned Italian, French, Russian, Maltese and Japanese. Claire and Robert were also stationed in Puget Sound, Wash., Green Cove Springs, Fla., Corpus Christi, Texas, Great Lakes, Ill., Travis AFB, Calif., and finally three years in Yokohama, Japan.

Claire's final years were brightened immeasurably by her young grandson William, who never failed to bring a smile to her face. Claire will be remembered for her intellect and sharp wit, and the many kindnesses she extended to people from all walks of life.

She is survived by her husband, Commander Robert V. Schmidt, USN (Retired); one son and daughter-in-law, Randy K.R. Schmidt and Marcia K. Schultz, island of Saipan, U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands; one daughter and son-in-law, Lea and Brian Roberts, Fargo; and one grandson, William Roberts, Fargo.

Helen Schneider
DICKINSON -- Helen Schneider, 89, Dickinson, formerly of Bismarck, died April 2, 2001, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. CDT Saturday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. MDT Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, where a rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. with Deacon Jerry Volk presiding. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Helen Schneider was born icon April 21, 1911, in Strasburg, the daughter of John L. and Margaretha (Dudenfner) Schneider. She moved to Napoleon in 1913 with her parents and was the oldest sister in a family of 10 which she helped care for. Helen worked in Boise, Idaho, from 1943 to 1945 at a defense plant and returned to Bismarck where she was employed by Bell Telephone Company. Helen retired in 1976 and became a resident of St. Benedict's Health Center, Dickinson, in 1998.

Helen was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters and St. Mary's parish of BIsmarck. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling and visiting with family and friends.

She is survived by four siblings, Joe (Bea) Schneider, Dickinson, George (Marie) Schneider, Torrance, Calif., Elizabeth Downey, Boise, Idaho, and Joan Deibert, Williston; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her immigrant parents; four brothers, John, Paul, Jacob and Anton; and one sister, Phyllis.
