DICKINSON -- Edith Adamsky, 82, Dickinson, died April 11, 2001, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending.

Sherman Allan
YORK -- Sherman Allan, 71, York, died April 11, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel, Leeds. Further arrangements are pending.

Jeanne Allan
Jeanne P. Allan, 80, Bismarck, a longtime friend of public education and retired elementary teacher, died April 9, 2001, peacefully in her sleep from a short but courageous battle with cancer in a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating. A special "Receiving of Friends" will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home. Jeanne and her twin sister were born icon June 27, 1920, and were raised with four other siblings, all deceased, in McKenzie. Jeanne attended Dickinson State College where she obtained her standard degree and later completed her bachelor of arts degree from Mary College. Jeanne began her teaching profession in a one-room schoolhouse and completed her 41-year teaching career in the Bismarck Public School system with the majority of the years teaching at Pioneer. Even after retirement she stayed actively involved with school activities. A member of First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, for over 50 years, Jeanne was involved in church activities and treasured her circle friends. In addition, she was involved with many special groups of friends including several bridge clubs, "Birthday Club" and the retired teacher group affectionately called the "Dingalings." Jeanne and her husband Pete wintered in Lake Havasu City, Az., for 14 years with numerous close and dear friends and both thoroughly enjoyed warm weather activities. Of all her activities, it was Jeanne's time she spent with her only granddaughter, Erica, that she cherished the most. She is survived by her husband and companion of 52 years, Pete; her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dennis Alfton, Golden Valley, Minn.; her granddaughter, Erica Jeanne Alfton, Golden Valley, Minn.; her identical twin sister and trusted soulmate, Joyce Dettmann, Mandan; Joyce's daughter, Cindy Cross and her husband Don and daughters Jennifer (Scott) Brahos, Mandan, and Sommar (Brian) Watson, St. Paul, Minn.; a special nephew, Ron Ryberg, Menoken; and a special niece, Mertice Colville, Lemmon, S.D. Jeanne preferred memorials be sent to either the donor's choice or to First Lutheran Church, Bismarck.

Rosemary Boe
TIOGA -- Rosemary Boe, 74, Tioga, died April 10, 2001, in a Williston medical center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Tioga. Further arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga.

Phoebe Dixon
PARSHALL -- Phoebe H. Dixon, 64, Parshall, died April 7, 2001, in a Stanley medical center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Parshall Memorial Hall. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; four daughters, Mildred Garcia, Cheryl Dixon, Lynette Dixon and Ann Myrick, all of Parshall; two sons, Blaine and Donovan, both of Parshall; 27 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Barbara Geis
Barbara Geis, 99, Bismarck, died April 10, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Private family services have been held. Barbara Geis was born icon April 14, 1901, in Richardton, to Jerome and Anna (Fischer) Dinius. She married icon Ralph Geis Sept. 23, 1919, in Fallon. Together they raised 10 children. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Zenker, Bismarck, and Delores Barron, Lady Lake, Fla.; three sons, Lorenz Geis, Rever, Mass., Frank Geis, Bismarck, and Richard Geis, Long Prairie, Minn.; 35 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; four daughters, Rose Simmons, Hilda and her husband Hank, Frances and her husband James Roble, and Helen Faccioline; one son, Ronald; one son-in-law, Art Zenker; and her parents. Jordan Hatzenbuhler
Jordan E. Hatzenbuhler, the daughter of Michael and Kari Hatzenbuhler, was stillborn April 3, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Private services and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. She is survived by her parents, Michael and Kari Hatzenbuhler; one sister, Kelsi, Mandan; and her grandparents, Lynn Metzger and Dennis and Pam Hatzenbuhler, all of Mandan.

Ford Husfloen
Ford Husfloen, 83, Woodburn, Ore., formerly of Price, died April 9, 2001, in Woodburn. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. PDT Friday in Belle Passi Cemetery, Woodburn. He is survived by one sister, Elva Hendry, Stanton. (Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn, Ore.)

E. Lowell Jasper
ROBINSON -- E. Lowell Jasper, 68, Robinson, died April 9, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Jasper officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Robinson. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Steele, and will continue for one hour prior to services. Lowell was born icon April 10, 1932, in Woodworth, the son of Emil and Edna (Suckut) Jasper. He was raised and attended schools in Robinson. He attended school at Valley City State before teaching country school for one year. Lowell married icon Janrose White in BIsmarck May 31, 1957. He continued to farm and ranch with his father prior to purchasing the farm in 1960. Lowell enjoyed his farm and was particularly proud of his livestock. The Saturday before his passing, Lowell was anxiously awaiting the arrival of six quarter horse colts of Blackburn breeding. He completed his purchase of the colts as a remembrance and legacy for his family. Lowell was a member of the Lions and Eagles Club. He is survived by his wife, Janrose; his daughters, Candace Jasper, Robinson, Jodi Jasper and Tammy Boger and her husband Dan, all of Bismarck, and Janeanne Bischke and her husband Brad, Watertown, S.D.; his sons, James and his wife Sheryl, Erda, Utah, and Miles, Flasher; his grandchildren, Bobbie Jo, Josh, Boyd, Eric, Austin, Jennifer, Matthew, Alexis and Hayley; his great-granddaughter, Jasmine; and two brothers, Larry, Bismarck, and Keith, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kami; his parents; and one brother, Milton. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Barbara McCormick
Barbara McCormick, 74, Bismarck, died April 11, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Further arrangements are pending.

Orville Pederson
JAMESTOWN -- Orville Pederson, 85, Jamestown, died April 10, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Burial will be held at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; six stepchildren, Dorothy Valenta, Edgewood, Wash., Lynn Schaefer, Barrett, Minn., LuAnn Ellingson, West Fargo, Laurie Hill and Richard Hill, both of Charleston, S.C., and Roger Hill, Fargo; 11 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sylvia Fliflet, Hannaford, and Gladys Fliflet, Cando.

Helen Porter
WILLISTON -- Helen Porter, 77, Williston, formerly of Bismarck, died April 10, 2001, in a Williston hospital after a short battle with cancer. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services. Helen was born icon Dec. 13, 1923, to Alfred and Susan (Smith) Faust in Moffit. She was raised and educated in Moffit. Helen and Clair Porter were united in marriage Feb. 14, 1942. They farmed east of Moffit and retired in 1966. They lived in Moffit until 1987 when they moved to Bismarck. In 1997 they moved to Williston. Helen enjoyed playing cards, especially solitaire, working crossword puzzles and watching professional golf on TV. She was a solicitor for the American Cancer Society for several years. She is survived by one daughter, Eileen and her husband Leonard Porter, Williston; one granddaughter, Shelly Sikes and her husband Joel, Dickinson; one great-granddaughter, Anna Sikes, Dickinson; one brother, Dale Faust and his wife Addean, Hearldsburg, Calif.; several nieces and nephews and their families; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair; her parents; and two sisters, Anna Kondas and Norma McMasters.

Rose Riedinger
Rose Riedinger, 97, Bismarck, died April 10, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent's Care Center Chapel, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Maye Ruona
Maye A. Ruona, 79, Buffalo, S.D., died April 10, 2001, in a Spearfish, S.D., health center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Krebsbach Funeral Service Chapel, Bowman. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, S.D. She is survived by one sister, Alice Ketchum, Buffalo, S.D.

Alma Studness
DEVILS LAKE -- Alma Mehus Studness, 98, Devils Lake, went on to her heavenly reward April 9, 2001, in a Devils Lake care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lake Region State College, Devils Lake, with the Rev. Marvin J. Scherbenske officiating. Prelude music will be presented by her music students beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and for one hour prior to services at Chatauqua Gallery. Alma Mehus was born icon Dec. 3, 1902, in Brinsmade, the daughter of North Dakota pioneer homesteaders Mikkel and Anne Myking Mehus. Alma was united in marriage to Leo C. Studness Jan. 23, 1929, in Stamford, Conn. They established their home in Devils Lake, where Mr. Studness managed farming and investment interests for the Studness Company. Mr. Studness died March 27, 1993. Before her marriage, Alma was a concert pianist. She received a bachelor of music degree at the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago, Ill. Alma's piano teachers in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Europe were the most renowned of that time. They included Adele Aus der Ohe in Berlin and Moriz Rosenthal at Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia, both famous pupils of Franz Liszt and Josef Lhevinne with his associates Rosina Lhevinne and Cora Kiesselbach. Alma's early piano teacher was her sister, Belle Mehus. As a concert pianist, Alma received laudatory reviews from music critics in Chicago, New York, Minneapolis, Berlin and Oslo, Norway. She made her European debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at age 20. In 1932 she was named to the North Dakota Hall of Fame. Alma promoted musical activity in the Lake Region. She served on the N.D. Council on the Arts from 1975 to 1981. She shared her love of music with many piano students through the years, many of whom are now in music professionally. She was an international honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi. In the 1920s she was made an honorary member of Business and Professional Women in Grand Forks. In 1989 her contributions to the Arts of North Dakota were recognized when she received the Governor's Award for the Arts. Alma was a founding member of the Lake Region Council on the Arts, honorary member of the Devils Lake Music Club and the Shakespeare Club. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lake Region Pioneer Daughters and a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha Iota, an honorary music sorority. In 1962 she founded the Lake Region Young People's Music Club and just this past weekend was a sponsor of their annual opera trip to Minneapolis. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne-Marit and William D. Bergstrom, Devils Lake; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles M. and Harriet Studness, Manhasset, Long Island, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Erica, Lisa and Roy Studness, all of New York City, N.Y., Mira Norcross and her husband Michael, Saint Croix Falls, Wis., and Renard Bergstrom and his wife Candace, Devils Lake; four great-grandchildren, William and Benjamin Bergstrom, Sydney Marit and Aria Leigh Norcross; her nephews, Donald Mehus, New York City, N.Y., and Orion Mehus and his wife Margo, Kissimee, Fla.; and her niece, Dorothy Lovret and her husband Reuben, San Marino, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 1993; one brother, Oscar Mehus; and two sisters, Belle Mehus and Hilda Mehus. Memorials may be directed to the Piano Fund at Lake Region State College.

Mary Stuss
DICKINSON -- Mary Stuss, 96, Dickinson, died April 10, 2001, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, rural Belfield. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by two sisters, Lavern Wright, Minneapolis, Minn., and Ann Brown, Eugene, Ore. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)
