She is survived by four children, Loretta Fleck, Woodburn, Ore., Stanley, Fargo, Susan Brown, Cullman, Ala., and Harvey, Richardton; 31 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. HAZELTON -- Herman Horstmeyer, 93, Bismarck, died April 18, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Linton, with burial in Linton cemetery. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

NEW TOWN -- Services for Elaine Mayer, 67, New Town, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Four Bears Community Center, New Town. Further arrangements are pending at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Virginia Petersen
FOREST RIVER -- Virginia Petersen, 81, Forest River, passed away April 19, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forest River Community Church, with burial in Forest River Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services. Virginia L. Johnston was born icon Dec. 11, 1919, in Forest River, the daughter of the late William A. and Ilma (Love) Johnston. She grew up and attended school in Forest River and graduated from University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. She married icon Robert Petersen on Oct. 26, 1943, in Sisseton. The couple made their home in Bismarck, where she worked as a social worker for the Department of Human Services. In 1968 the couple moved to Grand Forks, and she worked as a marriage counselor. He passed away in 1974. In 1975 she moved back to Bismarck and worked as the director of adoption services for the North Dakota Department of Human Services. She retired in 1990 and moved back to Forest River. She was a member of Forest River Community Church, Forest River American Legion Auxiliary, Forest River Senior Citizens and the Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by her children, Robert W. and Peggy Petersen, Virginia Beach, Va., Kristine and Michael Sheridan, Fargo, Lee and Kate Petersen, Fargo, and Kay and Bill Schlosser, Bismarck; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, James and Joyce Johnston, Venice, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. (Tollefson Funeral Home, Grafton)

Alvin Renz
HERREID, S.D. -- Alvin E. Renz, 88, Herreid, died April 20, 2001, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Herreid Baptist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Herreid. He is survived by his wife, Bernese; one son, Curt, Ames, Iowa; one granddaughter; and two brothers, Ephriam and Richard, both of Orange, Calif. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Carl Rexine
BOWDON -- Carl A. Rexine, 79, Bowdon, died April 19, 2001, in Jamestown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bowdon Lutheran Church, with burial in Wayside Cemetery, Bowdon. He is survived by his wife, Berneice; one daughter, Judy Hirschkorn, Harvey; three sons, Kenneth, Fessenden, Terry, Bowdon, and Kevin, Bowdon; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Tillie Heintz, Chaseley, and Clara Johnson, New Rockford. Eunice Sabot
BALDWIN -- Eunice I. Sabot, 73, Baldwin, died April 19, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Edwin Wehner officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 9 noon to 9 p.m. today and 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a vigil/rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday. Eunice was born icon Jan. 20, 1928, north of Bismarck, the daughter of Samuel and Lillian Turnbow. She was raised and educated in Bismarck and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Bismarck. She and Russell Sabot were married icon June 28, 1948, in Bismarck, and were married icon 52 years. Eunice and Russell farmed in the Baldwin area for many years. She retired from Q&R Clinic after 18 years of employment. She enjoyed her grandchildren, fishing, traveling, camping, crocheting, singing, dancing, sewing and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by her daughters and their families, Renee Walery and her husband, Steve, Bismarck, Deb Matzke and her husband, Rick, Bismarck, and their two sons; one daughter-in-law and her friend, Doug and Shannon Matzke, Denton, Texas, Jonathon Matzke and Maria, Minneapolis, Robyn Schafer and her husband, Mike, Bismarck, and their three daughters, Andrea and Jeremy Feldman, Bismarck, Becky and Heather Schafer, Dickinson, Cheryl Bechtle and her husband, John, and their two children, Emily and Josh, all of Bismarck; and one great-granddaughter, Tayler Feldman. She is also survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Duane Mack, Mary and Bob Anderson, all of Bismarck, and Catherine and Emanuel Entze, Golden Valley; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and June Turnbow, Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Andra Turnbow, Spearfish, S.D.; special friends, Darrell and Sandy Baisch, Bismarck, and their two children, Krista Artis and her husband, Joe, and their two children, Jordan and Jake, and Jeff Baisch, Salt Lake City; her special neighbor and caregiver, Gerry Ann Small and her husband, Gary, Baldwin; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; her parents, Sam and Lillian Turnbow; one brother, George Turnbow; one step-grandson, Brent Schafer; and two half-brothers, Carson and James Turnbow.

MONTICELLO, Minn. -- Joshua Saunders, 19, Monticello, died April 19, 2001, in a Monticello hospital from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Catholic Church, Monticello, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his parents, James and Joyce, Monticello; one sister, Morriah, at home; and his grandparents, Leonard and Hildegard Steckler, Mnadan. (Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, Monticello)

Cecelia Schatz
STERLING -- Cecelia Schatz, 80, Sterling, died April 20, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon Tuesday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Cemetery, Aberdeen, S.D. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday at Boelter Funeral Home, where a rosary/vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Monday. She was born icon Oct. 4, 1929, at Linton, the daughter of Lucas and Elizabeth (Werlinger) Bachmeier, and was raised in the Newell, S.D. area. Cecelia married icon Andrew Mathern on Nov. 13, 1939, in Newell. He died on March 8, 1957. Following his death, she raised her children in Aberdeen. In 1965, she married icon Dan Schatz in Aberdeen, and they then moved to Bismarck. Cecelia is survived by her husband, Dan; one son, Andrew Mathern, Minneapolis; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Elizabeth and John Pittarelli, Des Moines, Iowa, Mary Jane and Albert Andres, Medina, Joan Frances and Wesley Tritten, Hankinson, Alice Marie and Alvin Vetter, Moffit, and Beverly Jean Bleken, Grand Forks; five stepchildren and their spouses, George, Mandan, Stan and Helen, Fargo, Tony and Gail, Mandan, Maggie, Mott, and Joe and Beverly, Bismarck; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters and their spouses, Ann and Francis, Betty, Agnes and Carl, and Joann; and three brothers and their spouses, Joe, Luke, and Joan and Ray. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew; one daughter, Geraldine; two sons-in-law, Glenn Bleken and Leslie N. Banyai; and one brother, Michael Bachmeier.

HAZELTON -- Hilda Schiermeister, 83, Hazelton, died April 19, 2001, in her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hazelton. Further arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Martha Schlickenmayer
Martha Schlickenmayer, 78, Bismarck, died April 19, 2001, in the Steele care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion United Methodist Church, Tappen, with the Rev. Grant Piehl officiating. Burial will be in Fisher Cemetery, Tappen. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Steele Chapel. Martha Wetzel was born icon Nov. 10, 1922, at Tuttle, the daughter of William and Rose (Aichele) Wetzel. On Nov. 11, 1945, Martha married icon Edmund Schlickenmayer. She is survived by her three sons and one daughter-in-law, Marlyn and Gwen, Bismarck, Dennis, Stanchfield, Minn., and Kenneth, Cambridge, Minn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lou Ellen and Jo Hartman, Mobridge, S.D., and Darla and Mike Pfaff, Tappen; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; three step-great-grandsons; and three sisters and one brother-in-law, Leona and Fred Reuer, Bismarck, Frieda Haase, Bismarck, and Christine Schultz, Arvada, Colo. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Edmund.

Clementine Schwartz
Clementine Gerhart Schwartz, 90, Bismarck, died April 20, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Delmar Wagner
STURGIS, S.D. -- Delmar Albert Wagner, 59, Sturgis, died April 19, 2001, in the Sturgis care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Sturgis, with burial in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; one son, David, Rapid City; one daughter, Lori Wagner, Rapid City; one grandchild; two step-grandchildren; his mother, Pauline Wagner, Linton, N.D.; and one sister, Lorraine Wagner, Linton. Reinhold Braun
Reinhold "Reiny" H. Braun, 88, Bismarck, died April 19, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with the Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, where a rosary and prayer service will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Reiny was born icon Sept. 3, 1912, in Glen Ullin, to Reinert and Theresa (Hartinger). Reiny married icon Emma Duppong on Sept. 15, 1954, in Bismarck. He was a World War II Army veteran, and worked for Montana Dakota Utilities for 35 years as an operator. Reiny was an avid fisherman, hunter and rock hound who enjoyed making jewelry, lamps and many other items made from rocks and wood. He also loved his gardening as well as wildflowers, and made numerous things from many of nature's items. Reiny is survived by his wife of 46 years, Emma; his daughter, Kathleen Zachmeier, and her husband, Jeff, Mandan; his son, Duane, Bismarck; his sister, Rita Filibeck, Glen Ullin; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and three brothers.
