Wallace E. Lyman
Funeral services for Wallace E. Lyman, 88, Brownsville, TX, were held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at the Thomas Center at Palm Resaca Park, Brownsville, TX. Mr. Lyman died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at his home in Brownsville.
Wallace was born on February 8, 1917 in Verona, ND. He farmed for 34 years in Lisbon, ND, until 1973, when he and his wife, Leta Mae, retired and moved to Mesa, AZ. In 1976, they moved to Brownsville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brownsville. He was also a resident of Palm Resaca Park for over 29 years.
He is survived by one son, Edward (Diane) Lyman, Arkansas; one daughter, Eileen Lyman, San Francisco, CA; four grandsons, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wife, Leta Mae; his parents; three brothers, and four sisters.
As per his wishes, he was cremated.
Trevino Funeral Home, Brownsville, TX, was in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis M. Erlandson
Phyllis M. Erlandson, 80, Turlock, CA, died Thursday, January 19, 2006, at Emanuel Medical Center, Turlock.
Phyllis was a native of Lisbon, ND, and lived in the Turlock area for 41 years.
She was a teacher for Newman Unified School District for 33 years and attended California State University, Stanislaus.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children, Bobi Kent, Keri Erlandson, and Renee Harris, all of Turlock; one brother, Arnold Nelson, Lisbon; one sister, Elaine Kempel, Fargo, ND, and six grandchildren.
No services were held. The Neptune Society of Central California, Modesto, was in charge of arrangements.

Lucey W. Billey
Lucy W. Billey, 98, Ellendale, ND, died Friday, Jan. 27, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale.
Hoven Funeral Home, Ellendale, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Billey taught home economics at Lisbon High School from 1958 until the spring of 1971.

Oveda Settelmeyer
Funeral services for Oveda Settelmeyer, 49, New Rockford, ND, were held on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford. Miss Settelmeyer died Sunday, Jan. 29, at Innovis Health, Fargo, ND.
Oveda Agnes Settelmeyer, daughter of Joseph and Lovera (Harrum) Settelmeyer, was born August 1, 1956, in New Rockford. She was the eighth of twelve children. Oveda was named after both of her grandmothers. She grew up on the family farm south of New Rockford. She lived at home until she was 22, and then moved to Grafton, ND, for a few years. Oveda lived at the Fourth Corporation in New Rockford since 1992.
She is survived by her mother, Lovera, New Rockford; seven sisters, Jolene (Allen) Bakkila, Moorhead, MN, Diane (Jim) Klein, New England, ND, Karen (Steve) Adame, Colorado Springs, CO, Polly (Dave) Nelson, Bismarck, ND, Peggy (John) Sveum, McLeod, ND, Mary Kay (Russ) Peterson, Cody, WY, and Cyrilla (Richard) Vetsch, Townsend, MT; four brothers, Rod (JoAnn), New Rockford, Greg (Inez), Barnesville, MN, Joel (Camille), Hickson, ND, and Jeff (Linda), Gillette, WY; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Oveda was preceded in death by her father, Joe Settelmeyer.
Interment at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, New Rockford.
Evans Funeral Home, P.C., New Rockford, was in charge of arrangements.

Elva L. Shimming Brehm
Elva L. Schimming Brehm, 91, Enderlin, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Her funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin, was in charge of arrangements.

Kari Sue Thompson
Funeral services for Kari Sue Thompson, 46, Crookston, MN, were held on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Crookston. Rev. Daniel Wolpert officiated. Mrs. Thompson died Thursday, May 4 at Riverview Hospital, Crookston.
Kari Sue Roelofs, daughter of Del and Judy (Schroeder) Roelofs, was born January 2, 1960 at Olivia, MN. She was baptized at the United Brethren Church, Danube, MN. During her early years she lived in the communities of Eagle Bend and Glencoe, MN. In 1971, the Roelofs moved to Crookston and Kari started fifth grade in the Crookston Public Schools. She was a 1978 graduate of Central High School. Kari went on to attend Moorhead State University. She received a bachelor of science degree in management and marketing from MSU in 1982. She returned to Crookston and was employed with the Crookston National Bank.
On September 10, 1983, Kari married Ricky “Jake” Thompson at the First Presbyterian Church, Crookston. She became the office manager of Crookston’s Red River Distributing in the mid-1980s. In 1995, she became the executive director of the Crookston Economic Development Authority.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Crookston, where she was an elder, a Sunday School superintendent, member of the church choir, bell choir, and director of the youth choir. She was a longtime Sunday School teacher and provider of nursery care. She was also active in the church’s work group and its stewardship drive.
She was a member and former president of the Noon-Day Lions Club, and a member of the Jaycee Women’s organization. She served on the board of directors of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority and the Villa St. Vincent, and was the treasurer of the Matron’s Club. She was a co-chair of the United Way and had been a captain of their fund drives for many years. Kari was active with the Crookston Chamber of Commerce over the years. She was also a co-chair of the Miss Crookston Pageant. She was a member of the Riverview Hospital Association auxiliary. She served on the Education Foundation board, Pirate Booster board, Junior Achievement committee, and PTO of the Crookston Public Schools.
She is survived by her husband Rick, Crookston; children, Alexia and Jacob, Crookston; parents, Del and Judy Roelofs, Erskine, MN; brother, Kyle (Barbara) Roelofs, Glyndon, MN; mother-in-law, Beverly Thompson, Lisbon, ND; three sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Gerald “Chris” Thompson, and her grandparents.
Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, was in charge of arrangements.

Paul M. Joubert
Funeral services for Paul M. Joubert, 80, Gwinner, ND, were held Wednesday, May 10 at the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church, Gwinner. Rev. Josh Schunk officiated. Mr. Joubert died Sunday, May 7 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Paul M. Joubert, son of Noah and Marie (Stockstad) Joubert, was born June 3, 1925 at Belfield, ND. He attended schools at Fryberg and rural Milnor, ND. He attended the North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, for auto mechanics and electronics. Paul worked as an electrician in Mayville, and also at various jobs from Wisconsin to Washington. In 1954, he returned to Gwinner. He farmed and worked at Bobcat Co. in Gwinner. He attended Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church.
He is survived by brothers, Jerry (Darlene) Joubert, Wahpeton and Kenneth (Susan) Joubert, North Bend, OR, and sisters, Alethe Krause, Walla Walla, WA, Norma Schuessler, Lisbon, ND, Marilyn Matteson, Livingston, TX, Edith (Larry) Raatz, Valley City, ND, Kathryn Ingman, Dickinson, and Margaret (Ronald) Sagvold, Lisbon.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Kenwood Waloch, Jeff Johnson, Kendall Johnson, Terry Bishoff, Harvey Kleingarn, and Bill Holmstrom. Honorary pallbearers were all his nieces and nephews and those who knew him as “Uncle Paul”.
Music was provided by organist Becky Salberg and Jenelle Mueller.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Joseph Paul Wayman
Funeral services for Joseph Paul Wayman, 13, Sheldon, ND, were held on Friday, May 12, 2006 at Sheldon School, Sheldon. Rev. Leon Zavadil officiated. Joseph died Monday, May 8 in rural Sheldon.
Joseph, son of Sheri Wayman, was born October 10, 1992 at Fargo, ND. He attended schools at West Fargo, Sheldon and Enderlin. He was presently a seventh grader at Enderlin School.
He is survived by his mother, Sheri Wayman, Lidgerwood; siblings, Michael, Forsyth, MT, and Jonathon and Mercedes, Sheldon; grandparents, Larry and Gale Wayman, Sheldon, and great-grandmother, Doris Overby, Casselton.
Pallbearers for the funeral were DuWayne Overby, Jericho Sanchez, Abraham Garcia, Richard Griggs, Cody Overby, and Zach Renner.
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong and soloist Jack Armstrong.
Interment at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon.

Marvin C. Hoaby
Marvin C. Hoaby, 56, Grand Forks, died on Thursday, May 4, in his home. Memorial service plans are pending. Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, is in charge of the arrangements.
