She is survived by one son, Leland, Beulah; four daughters, Ardella Carlson, Bismarck, Wilma Engh, Devils Lake, Mary Ann Collins, Shreveport, La., and Karen Rockne, Grand Forks; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Elsie Urness, Beulah, Regina Knoell, Hazen, and Frieda Berg, Stanton; and two brothers, Oscar Miller and Walter Miller, both of Hazen. James Wack
ESMOND -- James Wack, 69, Esmond, died April 24, 2001, in the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Alice; four sons, Anthony, Devils Lake, Mark, Maddock, Richard, Aurora, Colo., and Joel, Bismarck; five daughters, Beverly Jamison, Clackamas, Ore., Connie Keller, Esmond, Faye Mertens, Devils Lake, Mary Wack, Thatcher, Ariz., and Darla McDonald, Kenosha, Wis.; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Lena Weinmann, Mary Volk, Annie Axtman, and Barbara Keller, all of Harvey, Lorraine Richter, Kent, Wash., Regina Kessler, Helena, Mont., and Sharon Held, Hankinson. Paulina Bertsch
WISHEK -- Paulina Bertsch, 93, Wishek, died April 26, 2001, in a Wishek care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, A. Pearl Wetzel, Ashley; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ben Wagner, Ellendale; and one sister, Hilda Bertsch, Aberdeen, S.D. Alma Berube
FARGO -- Alma S. Berube, 94, Fargo, formerly of Rolla, died April 26, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Rolla. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Rolette. She is survived by seven children, Vivian Cote, Brinnon, Wash., Delima Grassel, Rugby, Lorette Leonard, Mount Lake Terrace, Wash., Harvey Berube, Enurnclaw, Wash., Juliann Lentz, Perth, and Adrain Berube and Jackie Vandal, both of Fargo; 40 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Martineau, Yreka, Calif. Olga Duemeland
Olga Duemeland, 85, Bismarck, died April 27, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jake Kincaid officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Olga Duemeland was born icon Aug. 30, 1915, in Mandan, to Leonard and Pauline (Peterson) Duemeland. She lived on a homestead in Morton County and put herself through high school in Mandan. Olga worked for the state of North Dakota and Cloverdale Creamery during the Depression. Olga later married icon Lorin E. Duemeland of Bismarck. Lorin died in 1993. Olga was past president of the American Hereford Auxiliary, nationally known, assisting her husband Lorin as President of the American Hereford Association. They traveled around the world attending the world Hereford Conference. Olga was one of the first to receive a glucose blood sugar monitor for her diabetes. She was an avid golfer and speaker, who spent her winters in Maui, Hawaii, and Sun City West, Ariz., where she owned a home. Olga was past president of the Roosevelt PTA Association and was President of the Bismarck Toastmistress club. She was active in bridge and the Wags, Wedding Anniversary Group. Olga was a charter member of the Apple Creek Country Club and was active with the Exchange Study Club. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was an Elder and a Deacon. Olga was a wonderful, social, compassionate mother who loved her children. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bruce Norback, Edina, Minn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Skip and Joni Duemeland, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Lisa, Lynn and Lora Norback, all of Edina, Minn., and Chip and Jill Duemeland, both of Bismarck; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Lilly Christenson Watkins, Long Beach, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorin, who was past president of the Patterson Land Co. and general partner of Duemelands LTD partnership; her parents; one sister, Speara Christenson; and one brother, Palmer Christenson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association of North Dakota.

Esther Erlenbusch
Esther Erlenbusch, 79, Lemmon, S.D., died April 26, 2001, in a Lemmon care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lemmon, S.D. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Harold, Lemmon, S.D., and Kenneth, Nye, Mont.; three daughters, Gloria Bower, O'Fallon, Mo., Marilyn Collins, Enid, Okla., and Helen Dickinson, Durant, Okla.; four grandchildren; three brothers, Jake Maier, Hettinger, Ed Maier, Dickinson, and Clarence Maier, Minneapolis, Minn.; and six sisters, Freda Hoffland and Edna Rieger, both of Lemmon, S.D., Emma Graff and Bertha Gossman, both of Minneapolis, Minn., Ida Hoblem, Portland, Ore., and Adeline Thompson, Miles City, Mont. LeRoy Grimmer
LeRoy Grimmer, 52, Clinton, Tenn., formerly of Williston, died April 22, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Everson Memorial Chapel, Williston. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. He is survived by two sons, John and Dennis, both of Clinton, Tenn.; one granddaughter; his mother, Pelma, Williston; two sisters, Gloria Nelson, Nevada, and Sharon Rowe, Montana; and three brothers, Virgil, Gordon and Harold, all of Williston.

Oswald Lura
CARRINGTON -- Oswald Lura, 71, Carrington, died April 28, 2001, in a Harvey medical center. Arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Rudolph Martinson
NEW ROCKFORD -- Rudolph Martinson, 84, New Rockford, died April 27, 2001, in a New Rockford care center. Arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Ernest Maus
DICKINSON -- Ernest M. Maus, 74, died April 26, 2001, in Dickinson. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Golva. Further arrangements are pending with Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach.

Jacob Mormann
Jacob Anton "Jack" Mormann, 89, formerly of Mandan, died April 27, 2001, in New Hope, Minn. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, with military rites by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 707 and American Legion Post 40. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Jack was born icon April 30, 1911, in Almont, the son of Peter and Magdalene (Hipfel) Mormann. He was raised and educated in the Glen Ullin area. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII. Jack was employed as a salesman for Chilton Manufacturing Co. from 1969 to 1983. He also worked for Reidinger Motors as parts-manager. On March 25, 1946, he married icon JoAnn Millner at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan. Jack was an active member of the American Legion, Elks Club, Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Parish. Jack was a fun-loving person who liked to be with people. Some of his favorite pastimes were having coffee at George's Bakery, tinkering with cars, woodworking, going to the Legion for T-Bone Tuesday, working and most of all he cherished the times spent with his grandchildren. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Donata, Mandan; one daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Rod Bitz, Maple Grove, Minn.; his grandchildren, Jamie and Julie Bitz, David and Andy Banning, and Alisha and Danielle; one brother, Steve Mormann; one sister, Irene Campbell; and a special niece, Betty June and her husband, Dr. James Schunk. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, who died in 1974; his parents; one brother, Pete; one sister, Betty Baarstadt; and an infant sister.

Charles Pudwill
Charles R. Pudwill, 59, West Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Bismarck and Linton, died April 1, 2001, at his home. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Linton Cemetery. He is survived by his mother, Viola Joeb, Jamestown; two sisters, Nyla Wolf, Merced, Calif., and Mary Price, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three brothers, James Pudwill, Nipomo, Calif., Gary Pudwill, Santa Margarita, Calif., and Richard Joeb, Fargo. Samuel Schatz
MCCLUSKY -- Samuel "Sam" Schatz, 97, McClusky, died April 27, 2001, in an Underwood care center, where he had been a resident for the past six years. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, McClusky. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Sam was born icon Sept. 21, 1903, on the family homestead in Whittaker Township, south of McClusky. He was the son of Adam and Margaret (Huether) Schatz. He was raised and educated in Sheridan County. Sam was united in marriage to Edna Jurczewsky June 30, 1928, in McClusky. They purchased his parents' homestead and lived there. He farmed and raised cattle for well over 50 years. They also lived in McClusky so their children could attend the McClusky schools. Sam and Edna were married icon 72 years when she died March 1, 2000. Sam was a kind and gentle man with a wonderful subtle sense of humor. He dearly loved his family and the many family activities that ensued. He had a great love of the land and all of his family animals, many of which became his pets. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and spent many happy hours hunting with his two sons and friends. Sam could always be found on his John Deere tractor or in his pickup with his dog "Beau." He also enjoyed a good game of pinochle with family and friends. Sam was a past member of the Lions Club, Senior Center, Wildlife Club and Farmers Union, all of McClusky. He was a member of the Bismarck Elks Club. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Arlen, McClusky, and Don and Doris, Bella Vista, Ark.; one daughter and son-in-law, DeLila and John Wagner, Bismarck; eight grandchildren, William Wagner, Portland, Ore., Lynne Wagner, Jackson Hole, Wyo., Laurie Holvorson, Bismarck, James Schatz, Chicago, Ill., Elizabeth (Schatz) and her husband Kurt Wagner, Denver, Colo., David (Laura) Schatz, River Falls, Wis., Kevin Schatz, Palm Springs, Calif., and Steven (Susan) Schatz, Hemet, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Jeske, Portland, Ore.; and one brother, Herman Schatz, Billings, Mont. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; one grandson, Jack Wagner; his parents; two brothers, Reinhold and Jacob; and five sisters, Pauline Wahl, Sophie Wahl, Lydia Wahl, Martha Millhouse and Leah Schatz.

Clyde Schwartzmann
DICKINSON -- Clyde Schwartzmann, 67, Dickinson, died April 26, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Monday at United Methodist Church, Dickinson. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. MDT in Neuburg Cemetery, rural Mott. He is survived by his wife, Faye; one son, Lee, Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Cindy Green and Janelle Jorgensen, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Tammy Schank, Richardton, and Laurie Binstock, South Heart; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughterl and one sister, Bernice Harrison, San Leandro, Calif. Ardeth Taylor
Ardeth G. Taylor, 88, Florence, Ky., formerly of Bismarck, died Dec. 24, 2000, in an Edgewood, Ky., hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending.

Bernice Tekippe
Bernice Tekippe, 73, Bismarck, died April 27, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Bernice Fetzer was born icon July 3, 1927, in Bismarck, the daughter of Jake and Martha (Binder) Fetzer. She was raised and educated in Tuttle. She moved to Bismarck in 1945. On Sept. 9, 1949, Bernice married icon George Tekippe in Glendive, Mont. Bernice was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Bismarck. She enjoyed reading and crocheting, but her greatest love was spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, George; her daughter and son-in-law, Candace and Wayne Richter, Bismarck; her three sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Marg, Camarillo, Calif., Greg and Mary, Lakewood, Colo., and Bob and Janette, Mandan; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion and Lawrence Ochsner, Missoula, Mont., and Lu and Tom Shaw, Bellingham, Wash.; one brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Beverly Fetzer, Wilton; and her nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Heather Tekippe; her great-grandson, Mathew Walter; her parents; and her brother, Earl Fetzer.

Martha Ziebart
KULM -- Martha Ziebart, 92, Kulm, died April 26, 2001, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, rural Kulm. She is survived by six sons, Donald, Gerald and James, all of Minneapolis, Minn., Larry, Casper, Wyo., Robert, Fredonia, and Delmar, Woodville, Wis.; four daughters, Joyce Haag, Wishek, Lucille Mason, Black Hawk, S.D., Betty Dudek, Campbell, Calif., and Norma Collins, Laguna Hills, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
