NEW ENGLAND -- Clifford Jeske, 83, New England, died May 16, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New England. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterens Cemetery, Mandan. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; six children, Jerry Jeske, Brookings, S.D., Debbie Steier, Nampa, Idaho, Kay Jaeger, Benecia, Calif., Mark Jeske, Sioux Falls, S.D., Nancy Eckroth, Anchorage, Alaska, and Jim Jeske, Bismarck; and 11 grandchildren. WATFORD CITY -- Sandy L. Kostelecky, 44, Watford City, died May 14, 2001, in a Rochester, Minn., hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, New Hradec. She is survived by her husband, Dean; three sons, Shawn, Jason and Chad, all of Bozeman, Mont.; one grandchild; her parents, Robert and Joyce Olson, Wahpeton; two brothers, Richard Olson, Sioux City, Iowa, and Dave Olson, Fargo; and one sister, Jo Ann Haussler, Fridley, Minn. Nicholas M. Krebs, 62, Lemmon, S.D., died May 16, 2001, in a Lemmon care center. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lemmon. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two sons, Nick Jr., Rapid City, S.D., and Steve, Hutchinson, Kan.; two daughters, Edie Mattern, Aberdeen, S.D., and Laura Huether, Minot; 14 grandchildren; four brothers, Cliff, Pete and Robert, all of Lemmon, and Frank, Pine Haven, Wyo.; and six sisters, Lorraine Moser and Doris Kile, both of Lemmon, Triena Warfield, Cole Strip, Mont., Ann Watkins, Selah, Wash., Cindy Kuntz, Vancouver, Wash., and Jackie Timm, Bowdle, S.D. Viola Opp
Viola M. Opp, 77, Brush, Colo., formerly of Turtle Lake, died Dec. 10, 2000, in the Brush hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Zion United Church of Christ, Medina. Burial will be in Medina Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters, Lilas Lindell, Salt Lake City, Utah, Karen Pratte, Waterville, Iowa, and Julie Armstrong, Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Harold Sackman, Turtle Lake, and Marvin Sackman, Bolivar, Mo.

Mary Roth
GLEN ULLIN -- Mary Roth, 92, Glen Ullin, died May 16, 2001, in Glen Ullin. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Saturday at Evangelical Congregational Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Bud Ling officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. MDT today at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and for one hour prior to services at the church. Mary was born April 2, 1909, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daugher of Adam and Gertrude (Kaip) Schmelebeck. She moved to the Hebron area with her family when she was five years old. She was raised and educated in Hebron. She worked out as a young girl until her marriage to Fred Roth on Jan 8, 1929. Following marriage, Mary and Fred farmed in rural Glen Ullin, where Mary assisted with the farm and raised the family. In 1957 they moved into Glen Ullin and retired. After retiring Mary enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and helping with her grandchildren. She entered Marian Manor Care Center in February 1991, where she had resided since. Mary was a member of Evangelical Congregational Church of Glen Ullin. She is survived by six daughters, Lorraine Miller, Norma Kobilansky, Delaine Kottre and Dorothy Kroh, all of Glen Ullin, Gloria Giese, Bismarck, and Sharon Peltz, Denver, Colo.; four sons, Garfield, McMinnville, Ore., Richard and Roger, both of Glen Ullin, and Jerry, Elgin; 29 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her parents; one sister; one brother; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ANETA -- Edwin Sannon, 93, Aneta, formerly of Harvey, died May 17, 2001, in an Aneta care center. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

MANNING -- William D. Scott, 78, Manning, died May 17, 2001, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday at Hillside Baptist Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Kenneth Steele, 76, Woodbridge, Calif., formerly of Parshall, died May 13, 2001, in California. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Parshall. Burial will be in the city cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mary-Lou; six sons, Gary, Jerry and Mike, all of Parshall, Billy, Belcourt, Tommy, South Heart, and Keith, Berthold; five daughters, Barbara Krueger, Parshall, Linda Brunsell, Garrison, LuAnn Lunstad, Savage, Mont., Colleen Wood, Twin Valley, Minn., and Bonnie Andes, Dickinson; three stepchildren, Dale and Blaine Brunelle, Bismarck, and Neil Brunelle, Parshall; 38 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Gerald, Carrington, and Harry Jr., Rugby; two daughters, Delores Wolf and Marlene Ekren, both of Kensal; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Pauline Gustin
Pauline Helen Gustin, 85, 201 First Ave. N.E., Mandan, died May 13, 2001, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan. Burial will be in St. Anthony Church Cemetery, St. Anthony. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m., a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. and a St. Anthony Christian Mothers rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Pauline (Renner) Gustin was born Nov. 13, 1915, on a farm west of St. Anthony, the seventh child of Joseph and Margaret (Forester) Renner. She attended a rural school and St. Anthony Catholic School through the eighth grade. Pauline was married to Adam Gustin Oct. 10, 1938, in St. Anthony with the Rev. Andrew Kolbeck as celebrant. Pauline and Adam farmed on the Renner homestead until 1945 when they bought a farm north of St. Anthony, where they lived until Adam passed away May 2, 1976. Pauline moved to an apartment in Mandan and joined St. Joseph Church. Pauline was an active member of the St. Anthony parish, working at the fairs, Christian Mothers and Verein functions. They were the Knights of Columbus Family of the Year in 1970. In Mandan she was a member of the Catholic Daughters. Pauline was a gentle, loving mother, and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David and RoseMary, McLean, Va., Allan and Peggy and Dennis and Sherry, all of St. Anthony; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Paul Smith, Omaha, Neb., Carol and Harvey Wehri, Hebron, and Pat and Jim Boehm, Crown Butte; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose Gustin, Bismarck; two brothers, Tony, Bismarck and Albert, Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam; her parents; four brothers; one sister; three grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law.

Alice Hollan
KULM -- Alice Hollan, 83, Kulm, died May 12, 2001, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Congregational Church, Kulm. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Lee; two sons, Dennis, Hosmer, S.D., and Curtis, Hector, Minn.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Viola Moltzen, New Salem. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm)

Sidney Nelsen
LEEDS -- Sidney W. Nelsen, 65, Leeds, died May 13, 2001, in a Rugby medical center. Arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds.

Rose Pleines
Rose Pleines, 75, Bismarck, died May 13, 2001, in a Steele care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Dr. Bradley R. Stoltenow officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Rose Hertel was born May 13, 1926, on a farm north of Pettibone, the daughter of Jacob and Emma Hertel. She attended school in a rural area. On Nov. 17, 1946, Rose was united in marriage to Joe Pleines at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pettibone. Rose was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bismarck for 21 years. Her greatest enjoyment was her family, grandchildren and her Lord. She leaves to mourn her husband of 54 years, Joe; her son, Bernell Pleines, Bismarck; her daughter, Karen Olson, Bismarck; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Alvina Anderson, Moorhead, Minn., Lorraine and Don Hoffman, Jamestown, Esther Bollinger, Brookings, S.D., and June and Calvin Mayer, Casselton. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and three brothers.

David Quam
WYNDMERE -- David Quam, 48, Wyndmere, died May 13, 2001, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural DeLamere. Further arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Milnor.
