She enrolled and completed cosmetology school in Aberdeen, S.D., and worked in a cafe while caring for her three younger brothers. In 1939, she met and married Al Sanow. When Harry and LaVerna retired in 1982 from the sheriff's office, they continued their public service as security agents for the Corps of Engineers at Mobridge, S.D., for eight years. In 1988 they continued to devote their lives to help care for grandchildren in Watertown, S.D., and enjoyed living with their youngest daughter Cece and her family until the time of her death. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, LaVerna enjoyed life to the fullest with her effervescent laughter and humor, a "gypsy traveler," a consummate hostess, a deep love for her family and friends and a spirituality she practiced and shared each and every day.
