JAMESTOWN -- Julia A. Harr, 74, Jamestown, died April 11, 2000, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown. She is survived by her husband, Donald; two sons, Gregory and Timoth, both of Jamestown; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Robert Serba, Jamestown. Ethel L. Hastings
WILLISTON -- Ethel L. Hastings, 86, Williston, died April 9, 2000, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Liberty Evangelical Free Church, Williston, with burial in Schafer Cemetery, Watford City. She is survived by four sons, Claude Kidd, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada, Arnold Hastings Jr., Fond Du Lac, Wis., Jim Hastings, Fond Du Lac, and David Hastings, Beaverton, Ore.; two daughters, Arlene Hickel, Williston, and DeArlyn Carney, Fridley, Minn.; one brother, Cecil Wilson, Williston; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Oscar Hintz
HAZEN -- Oscar Hintz, 69, Hazen, passed away in his home following a long battle with cancer on April 10, 2000. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah, with the Rev. Jerry Drebelbis officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Josphe Hintz, Michael Hintz, Elliot Hintz, Tyrel Crawford, Derrik Hintz and Paul Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be Freeman Jay Crawford, Yvette Crawford, Jori Hintz, Anthony Hintz, Michael Martin and Elmer Engel. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. MDT Friday in Garrison. Oscar was born April 1, 1931, in Garrison, the son of John and Magdelina (Zuern) Hintz. He grew up and was educated in the Garrison area. Oscar was united in marriage to Joyce Poitra on Sept. 15, 1953. Together, they made their home in Garrison. Following Joyce's death, Oscar married Myrna Crawford on Nov. 10, 1977. Oscar and Myrna moved to Hazen later that year and he resided there until the time of his death. He was a carpenter and did woodwork most of his life. He enjoyed working with his hands and being outdoors hunting and fishing with his family. He loved to laugh and joke, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Myrna; three daughters and one son-in-law, Susie and Orla Crawford, Kathleen Hintz and Terri Krueger; two sons, Ronald "Jack," and Michael; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ester Ellison, Clara Kovorik and Florence Christman; two brothers, Eugene and Clarence; and five half-brothers and sisters, Phyllis Sayler, Irene Sayler, Lois Whitely, Lyle Hintz and John Hintz Jr. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Frank Johnson; his first wife, Joyce; and two half-sisters, Violet Fetzer and Ruth Fetzer.

Theresa Kadrmas
DICKINSON -- Theresa Kadrmas, 107, Dickinson, died April 10, 2000, in the Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in Dickinson Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Ficek and Tillie Ficek, both of Dickinson; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren. Jeffrey Knudson
Jeffrey Knudson, 18, Bismarck, died April 8, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bob Nordvall officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., with a time of sharing at 6 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Jeffrey was born on July 2, 1981 in Bismarck. He attended Will-Moore and Simle, and was a senior at Century High School. He enjoyed music, soccer and fishing with grandpa, spending time with his cousins, friends and special friend, Angie Bauer. Jeff enjoyed his musical accomplishments with the piano and cello and played with the Century High School Orchestra. He planned to attend piano tuning school after graduation. He is survived by his mother, Beverly Knudson and her fiance, Bob McCay; his father and stepmom, David and Kaye Knudson; one brother, Christopher; two stepsisters, Maddie and Sam Harris, all of Bismarck; his grandparents, Adolph and Margret Anklam, rural Arnegard, Robert and Marilyn Knudson, Mandan; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Gladys R. Nichols
Gladys R. Nichols, 97, Bismarck, died April 9, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Art Scanson and Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Gladys Kapsch was born June 13, 1902, in Menno, S.D., the daughter of Herman G. and Camille (Jaton) Kapsch. She was raised and educated in Sheridan County near Denhoff. Gladys attended Bismarck Business College. She was employed in the office of the Bismarck Tribune and the State Motor Vehicle Department. Gladys married Alfred Nolan Nichols on Dec. 19, 1925, in Bismarck. They farmed near Goodrich for several years before moving to McClusky. Gladys worked as a research specialist for McClusky Real Estate Abstract Office. In 1950 the moved to Minneapolis, where she was a secretary for the School of Nursing at the Methodist Hospital until her retirement. Gladys was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene in various cities, a charter member at the church in Denhoff, and was currently a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Las Cruces, N.M. Gladys is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Beverly N. and Bernard Solberg, and Mary Jane and Robert Herr, all of Bismarck, and Ardelle Nichols, El Paso, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Nolan Nichols; one son, Charles D. Nichols; one grandson, Darrell; and three sisters, Mary Ann, Sophie and Marie.

Harris Olson
SPRINGBROOK -- Harris Olson Sr., 62, Springbrook, died April 9, 2000, of natural causes. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednsday at Everson Funeral Home, Williston. He is survived by his wife, Carole; two sons, Harris Jr. and Harold, both of Williston; two daughters, Jeannie Olson and Kathie Olson, at home; his mother, Agnes Olson, Grand Forks; two sisters, Faye Eby, Alamo, and Mrgie Schlette, Thompson; three brothers, Harold and Gary, both of Grand Forks, and Gaylen, East Grand Forks, Minn.; and six grandchildren.

Fred K. Rance
DEVILS LAKE -- Fred K. Rance Sr., 94, Devils Lake, died April 10, 2000, in Devils Lake. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake, with burial in Devils Lake Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; three daughters, Betty Rushfeldt, Oberon, Janet Sundberg, Harvey, and Sharon Rance, Devils Lake; two sons, Fred Jr., Webster, and Everett, Devils Lake; five grandchildren; and one sister, Daisy Hermanson, Webster. Connie Scholl, 72, Bismarck, died April 11, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Robert "Bob" H. Senn
Robert "Bob" H. Senn, 76, Mandan, died April 10, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at noon Friday at Christ the King Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Thursday, and a rosary and vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Robert was born Feb. 16, 1924, at Odense, the son of Stanis and Mary (Korte) Senn. Raised and educated there, he entered the U.S. Army in 1945, serving in Japan. Discharged in 1946, he served in the Reserves until 1949. On April 12, 1948, he married Ruth Anhorn at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan. They made their home in Mandan and he was employed by the North Dakota State Highway Department, Bismarck Grocery and Nash Finch, retiring from Bismarck Super Valu as a truck driver in 1986. Bob remained active after retirement driving school bus for the Mandan Public Schools and delivering Meals on Wheels for Golden Age Services until ill health prevented him from doing so. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Medcenter One Care Center in Mandan. He was a member of Christ the King Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bismarck Teamster Retirees, A.A.R.P. and Golden Age in Mandan. He loved trucks and camping and traveling with his family. Time spent visiting with others and working in the yard was special to him. Taking "his kids" to Hardee's was an enjoyable event for all. Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth; his sister, Margaret Wentz, Rufus, Ore.; his half-brother, Jim Senn, Washington; his nieces and nephews, Gary and Pat Anhorn, Peggy Benz, Sandra Prudente, all of Mandan, and Gary and Carol Backman, Bismarck; numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and a special great-grand-niece, Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William. Bob, as he was known by everyone, will be greatly missed by his family, neighbors and friends. He loved to visit and was ready to talk to everyone.

Merle Thompson
GARRISON -- Merle Thompson, 78, Garrison, formerly of Mandan, died April 9, 2000, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by Mandan American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. Thursday and until service time Friday at the funeral home. Merle was born Jan. 22, 1922, at Kaldron, S.D., the son of Ellert O. and Ovidia (Peterson) Thompson. At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Mandan, where he was raised and educated. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946, and was stationed in Australia when he met Dorothy Christie. They were married April 11, 1946, in Melbourne, Australia. They returned to Mandan where Merle was employed by Purity Dairy and later as a truck driver for Main Gas and Dan Dugan Trucking. He was also a contractor and built many homes in Mandan. After his retirement, he and Dorothy moved to Garrison where he was closer to his fondest occupation, fishing, particularly for salmon. He was also an avid hunter. He enjoyed gardening and was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W., Disabled American Veterans and the Retirees Teamsters Local 123. Merle is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his stepdaughter, Patricia Gomersky and her husband, Robert, Healsville, Victoria Australia; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley Barker and her husband, Bert, Australia; and three sisters, Avis Walters, Frederick, S.D., Clara Angle, King City, Mo., and Vivian Heller, Irvine, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Vern, Everett, Elmer and Raymond; and his sister, Alice Thompson.

Lloyd S. Todahl
DEVILS LAKE -- Lloyd S. Todahl, 74, Devils Lake, died April 11, 2000, in the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home, Minnewaukan.

Raymond Vetter
DRAKE -- Raymond Vetter, 63, Drake, died April 10, 2000, in a Minneapolis hospital. Arrangements are pending at Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home, Drake.

William "Bill" Waltz
MCCLUSKY -- William "Bill" Waltz, 86, McClusky, died April 8, 2000, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky, with burial in Lincolndale Cemetery, rural Denhoff. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Bill was born April 18, 1913, on the family farm northeast of McClusky. He was the son of John and Josephine (Werfel) Waltz. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school in Gransville Township, Sheridan County. He farmed with his brothers until retiring in 1976. He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. He was baptized and confirmed at the Emmanual Lutheran Church, rural McClusky, and attended Grace Lutheran Church. He is survived by five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Jack and Joyce, Olympia, Wash., Henry and Gladys, Fargo, Fred and Bernice, Sacramento, Calif., and Paul and Art, both of McClusky; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Hilda Freeman, St. Paul, Minn., Helen Sprenger, Harvey, Frieda Waltz, McClusky, Marie and Oscar Kalin, Minneapolis, and Josephine and Leonard Yoch, St. Paul; a sister-in-law, Marie Waltz; a brother-in-law, John Bonnet, both of McClusky; 16 nephews and eight nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; sisters, Emma Bonnet and Alvina Waltz.

John Wanner
John Wanner, 81, Bismarck, died April 11, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. John was born March 3, 1919, and is survived by one son, Gail Wanner; and one daughter, Judy Weigum, both of Bismarck. Arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Edward P. Wenger
Edward P. Wenger, 72, Mandan, died April 10, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, with military rites by Mandan American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be said at 7 tonight. Edward was born on Jan. 29, 1928, in Mandan, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Jahner) Wenger. He served in the U.S. Navy from February 1946 to December 1947. He married Esther Chyles on Jan. 29, 1949. He was self-employed as a house painter prior to his 16 years of employment as a maintenance engineer at the Mandan High School. A member of the Eagles Club, Ed was an excellent baker and cook, but particularly enjoyed time spent outdoors, whether fishing, gardening, doing yard work or just going for a walk. He cherished any time spent with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Esther; his sons, Ron and his fiance, Lisa King, Lincoln, Neb., and Wesley and his wife, Pam, Bismarck; his daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Bruce Zander, Mandan, Julie and Roger Schaff, Bolling Brook, Ill., Loretta and Richard Paul, Grand Forks, Lucinda and Steve Wember, New Salem, and Sherrie and Jerome Johnson, Mandan; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Grace Markel, Mandan, Marion Sinkula, Washington, Eleanor Zinnel and Josephine Woodward, both of Mandan; and one brother, Martin, Mandan. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Charles and Lawrence.

Ida Woehl
WISHEK -- Mrs. Ida Woehl, 86, Wishek, died April 10, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church, Wishek, with the Rev. Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Wishek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday at Haut Funeral Home, Wishek. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Ida Stern was born March 8, 1914, on the family farm five miles east of Zeeland, the daughter of Jacob Stern and Katherine (Schmeister) Stern. She received her elementary education in the Berlin Township School and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm. She and Reinhold Woehl were married Nov. 10, 1935, at her parents farm near Zeeland. They made their home on a farm 18 miles southwest of Wishek from 1938 to 1956. They then moved to Tuttle where they farmed. In 1958 they moved to Bismarck where she worked at a restaurant and in 1960 they moved to a farm 16 miles southeast of Ashley until 1967. They returned to Bismarck and in 1971 they moved into Wishek where they have resided. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens in Wishek. She is survived by her husband, Reinhold; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Wesley, Bismarck, Donald and Judy, Redfield, S.D., and Thomas and Dianna, Wishek; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gladys and Earl Schneider, Ashley,and Judie and Gary Benjamin, Thompson; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Mildred Stern, Bismarck; and three sisters, Adeline Jundt, Bismarck, Leah Thompson, Los Angeles, and Rachel Norman, Los Angeles. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Victor; one granddaughter; two brothers; one sister; and two siblings in infancy.
