Lillie Johanna Young
Lillie Johanna (Jiras) Young, 89, 700 South 12th Street, passed away in her home, with her family present, from complications of cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Dick Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be at 3:15 p.m. Friday, at Baldwin Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Lillie was born on July 15, 1910 at rural Judson, to Wesley James Jiras and Frederika (Schwinkendorf) Jiras, the youngest member of the Jiras family. In 1912, the family moved to Park Lake, Minn. In 1913, the Jiras family purchased a farm east of Baldwin, that joined the farm of Wesley's brother. Lillie attended Cromwell Township grade school, less than one half mile from home, across a small creek. She worked for a few months in Bismarck, spending several weeks quarantined because of having diptheria. She returned to the family farm to work with her parents and brothers on a farm. Lillie married McKinley "Mac" Young at McIntosh, S.D., on Oct. 28, 1940. They lived a few months in rural South Dakota, then returned to rural Wing, where they operated a horse ranch with Mac's sister and her husband, Viola and Datus Hill, where a son, Larry, was born. In the spring of 1944, they moved to a farm north of Menoken, where another son, Roland, was born. The fall of 1945 the Young family moved to a farm east of Baldwin, where Lillie worked long and hard. She moved to Bismarck in November of 1978. For the last few years, Lillie contended with diabetes, and finally cancer. Lillie loved all animals and birds, and especially her cats. She is survived by her sons, Larry Young and Roland Young, and his former wives, Catherine and Rita; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her nephews, Charles Fischer, Roderick Monroe, Darrel Monroe, Raymond Skoglund and Dewey Jiras; her nieces, Shirley Skoglund and Katherine Stoxen; one sister-in-law, Laura Mae Jiras; and special friend, Eileen Elhard; and many other great friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, George Jiras, Joseph Jiras and Willie Jiras; her sisters, Louise Fischer and Emma Monroe; an infant daughter, Lenora Jean, in 1947; one nephew, Henry Fischer; one niece, Francis Fischer; and all other brothers-in- and sisters-in-law. With special mention and thanks to Caroline Hermanson and her many, very caring and thoughtful staff at Home Medical Resources, for the assistance and comfort afforded Lillie. STRASBURG -- Mylene Zacher, 62, Strasburg, died April 12, 2000 at his home. Arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Ernest Zimmiond
KEENE -- Ernest Zimmiond, 61, Keene, died April 9, 2000 in the Watford City hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, at Keene First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Garden Valley Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Donna; three sons, Larry, Keene, Richard, Whitewood, S.D., and Aaron, Sturgis, S.D.; two brothers, Delmer and Leslie Rink, both of Keene; four sisters, Sharon Anderson, Keene, Shirley Olson, Pearl Haney and Karen Lambert, all of Williston; and five grandchildren. Dennis H. Berg
Dennis H. Berg, 45, died April 12, 2000, in Minot after a long battle with brain cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Robinson, with the Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and from 1-7 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour before services. Dennis was born Oct. 17, 1954, in Bismarck, to Harry R. Berg, Robinson, and the late Eldora T. Berg. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Tuttle High School in 1972. Dennis worked in sales and repair for Haybuster Manufacturing in Jamestown, as a farm laborer in the Tuttle/Robinson area, as a driver for the Bismarck Tribune circulation department and as a CNA at the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown. He was named a fellow during his junior year at Jamestown College, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Jamestown College School of Nursing in May 1998. He worked as a registered nurse in the cardiac care unit at Medcenter One until his diagnosis in September 1998. Dennis loved school, the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. His proudest day was the day he received his college diploma. Religion also played a very important role in his life. Dennis is survived by his father, Harry R.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Janis and Larry Gienger, Bottineau, Jean and Kent Fredrickson, Minot, and Susan and Randy Anderson, Vancouver, Wash.; one brother, Harry R. Jr., Chicago; two nieces, Kristen Fredrickson, Bismarck, and Lauren Gienger, Bottineau; and one nephew, Kent Fredrickson, Minot. He also leaves close friends, Zhanna Khalafyam, Karen Solheim, Judy Horning, Joanne Larson, Kathy Fallgatter, Ray Gehring, Jim Leuwer and Rod Gellner. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Wesley J. Davis
NEW TOWN -- Wesley J. Davis Sr., 61, New Town, died April 11, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Four Bears Community Center, New Town. Further arrangements are pending at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Mildred Gillen
Our dear mother, Mildred Gillen, 89, Bismarck, died April 1, 2000, in a local care center. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Visitation will be held at Eastgate Funeral Service one hour before services. Mildred Wenaas was born March 4, 1911, the daughter of Sigurd and Nellie Wenaas, at Arena. She attended school there and later in Bismarck. She was confirmed at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church on Aug. 10, 1924. On Jan. 10, 1931, she married William F. "Bud" Gillen. They lived in Bismarck and wintered in Arizona for 17 years until 1994. She moved to the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in April 1995. Mildred enjoyed bowling, bingo, dancing and crocheting afghans for family and friends. She was an election worker for years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Elks and was a founding member of the Elkettes. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and a special grandmother and great-grandmother. Mildred is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Frankie and Gerald Lunn, Bismarck, and their children, Gary, Dr. R. Jay and wife Jayne, Michael and wife, Sue, and Karin and husband, Michael Gerszewski; two sons, Bill, Santa Fe, N.M., and his children, Stephanie and husband, Brent Linnenkamp, and Bill, Michael and wife, Donna, Grand Forks, and their children, Douglas and wife, Kari, Bob, and Tom; four great-grandchildren, Brendan Lunn, Kate and Jennifer Gillen, and Noah Gerszewski; two sisters, Bernice Asbridge, Bismarck, and Reggie Wetch, Mandan; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Gillen, Kathryn Gillen and Doris Rauchstadt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, on Nov. 8, 1997; her parents; two sisters; and one brother. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Oscar Hintz
HAZEN -- Oscar Hintz, 69, Hazen, passed away in his home following a long battle with cancer on April 10, 2000. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah, with the Rev. Jerry Drebelbis officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Joseph Hintz, Michael Hintz, Elliot Hintz, Tyrel Crawford, Derrik Hintz and Paul Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be Freeman Jay Crawford, Yvette Crawford, Jori Hintz, Anthony Hintz, Michael Martin and Elmer Engel. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. MDT today in Garrison. Oscar was born April 1, 1931, in Garrison, the son of John and Magdelina (Zuern) Hintz. He grew up and was educated in the Garrison area. Oscar was united in marriage to Joyce Poitra on Sept. 15, 1953. Together, they made their home in Garrison. Following Joyce's death, Oscar married Myrna Crawford on Nov. 10, 1977. Oscar and Myrna moved to Hazen later that year and he resided there until the time of his death. He was a carpenter and did woodwork most of his life. He enjoyed working with his hands and being outdoors hunting and fishing with his family. He loved to laugh and joke, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Myrna; three daughters, Susie Orla Crawford, Kathleen Hintz and Terri Krueger; two sons, Ronald "Jack," and Michael; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ester Ellison, Clara Kovorik and Florence Christman; two brothers, Eugene and Clarence; and five half-brothers and sisters, Phyllis Sayler, Irene Sayler, Lois Whitely, Lyle Hintz and John Hintz Jr. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Frank Johnson; his first wife, Joyce; and two half-sisters, Violet Fetzer and Ruth Fetzer.

Robb Johnson
ROLETTE -- Robb Johnson, 31, Rolette, died April 13, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Arrangements are pending at Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds.

Alvin Johnson
Alvin Johnson, 13, Bismarck, died April 12, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Bob Nordvall and Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Washburn. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. today, with a student time of sharing at 6 tonight at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Alvin was born May 25, 1986, in Bismarck. He attended Head Start and Will-Moore Elementary schools. Alvin was currently attending Hughes Middle School as an eighth grader. He was a member of Bismarck Boy Scout Troop 123. He would unselfishly donate his time to his neighbors and friends to help out with mowing the lawn, shoveling snow or anything else that they might need. Alvin had a special relationship with First Lady Nancy Schafer. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his mother, Margo Johnson; two brothers, Scott and Steven Johnson; two sisters, Misty and Amanda Johnson, all of Bismarck; his grandmother, Margaret Johnson, Washburn; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Melvin Johnson. Donations may be sent to the Alvin Johnson Memorial Trust Fund at U.S. Bank in Bismarck.

Frank J. Koffler
DICKINSON -- Frank J. Koffler, 78, Dickinson, died April 12, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, at 11 a.m. CDT Monday. He is survived by his wife, Marie; one daughter, Cheryl Klinger, Oriska; two grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Hamann, Dickinson, and Gloria Hunt, Woodburn, Ore.; and two brothers, Ray, Bismarck, and Felix, Oregon City, Ore. Sophie Kuebler
ABERDEEN, S.D. -- Sophie Kuebler, 98, Aberdeen, died April 10, 2000, in an Aberdeen nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, with burial in Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen. She is survived by two sons, Albert and Howard, both of Aberdeen; three daughters, Eleanor Graf and Irene Daschle, both of Aberdeen, and Arlene Hanson, Bath; one brother, Benjamin Eissinger, Wishek; 28 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Obed Larson
HEIMDAL -- Obed Larson, 96, Heimdal, died April 12, 2000, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hoff Lutheran Church, Heimdal, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Joan Larson, Harvey; and one sister, Evelyn Sandeen, Waukesha, Wis. (Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden)

Bertha Lonski
JAMESTOWN -- Bertha Lonski, 81, Jamestown, died April 12, 2000, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown. She is survived by her husband, Bob; one daughter, Mary Cobean, Apollo Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Alvina Stolz, Frieda Hastings, Eva Becker and Clara McGruder, all of Jamestown; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

James B. Martin
LINTON -- James B. Martin, 71, Sturgis, S.D., formerly of Linton, died April 12, 2000, in Sturgis. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by three brothers, Joe, Linton, Fred, Strasburg, and Robert, Linton; and two sisters, Jean Orthmeier, Hazelton, and Laverne McDonald, Bismarck. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Margaret Moffit
Margaret Moffit, 88, died April 11, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Amelia Bailey United Methodist Church, Moffit, with the Rev. Terry Arbeiter officiating. Burial will be in Moffit Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a family gathering will take place at 7 tonight. There will also be visitation one hour before services at the church. Margaret Glum was born Feb. 20, 1912, the daughter of Herman and Florence (Arnold) Glum, at Bismarck. She was educated in the Menoken and Glencoe areas. She married George W. Moffit Jr., Dec. 20, 1935. They farmed in the Glencoe area until the flood of 1962, when they built a new home in Moffit where they resided for many years. George passed away in 1976 and Margaret continued to live there until she sold her home and moved into Bismarck in 1994. She was a selfless woman who enjoyed the time that she got to spend with her huge family. She was a very caring person and her faith was an important part of her daily life. She was a member of the Amelia Bailey Methodist Church, Moffit. Those who were fortunate to have shared her life are her four sons and two daughters-in-law, Douglas and Donna, and Raymond, all of Bismarck, Ronnie and Linda, Lincoln, and Lee, Moffit; 11 daughters and three sons-in-law, Nancy Moffit and Rose Ohlhauser, both of Bismarck, Gladys Engebretson, Norfolk, Neb., Irene Reather, Great Falls, Mont., Juana and Richard Dewald, Fallon, Nev., Shirley Lave, Melbourne, Fla., Betty Grage, Alcester, S.D., Jean and Richard Austad, Fairfield, Mont., Donna Houle, Dunseith, Marcella Moffit, and Susan and Doug Manson, all of Rolla; 39 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mildred "Peg" Gallagher, Sacramento, Calif., Selma Peterson, Montico, Calif., Bertha Williams, Denair, Calif., and Wanda "Dolly" Anderson, Great Falls, Mont. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; six brothers; two sisters; two granddaughters; and one great-grandson.

Dorothy Schuler
Dorothy Schuler, 88, Bismarck, died April 11, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be today from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, and noon to 9 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at Eastgate Funeral Service. Dorothy was born April 8, 1912, in Hazelton, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Horner) Schlittenhart. She married Adolph Schuler on May 13, 1933, and they lived in Washburn. In 1943, they moved to Burleigh County and farmed near Baldwin. Following Adolph's death in 1969, Dorothy moved to Bis-marck, where she resided until entering St. Vincent's Care Center in 1993. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and cooking. She spent many enjoyable hours crocheting items as gifts for her family. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Phyllis, Alden and Marlys, and Melvin and Linda, all of Bismarck, and Norvel and Louella, Baldwin; three daughters and one son-in-law, Virginia Martin, Las Vegas, and Janet and Alvin Hojian, and Marlys Fricke, all of Bismarck; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; two granddaughters, Lisa and Debbie Schuler; and four brothers; three sisters and one son-in-law, Gerald Martin. Glenn Stephenson
HETTINGER -- Glenn Stephenson, 82, Hettinger, died April 12, 2000. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Carlsen-Jolley Funeral Home, Sturgis, S.D., withburial in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Sue Doe, Regent, and Judith Jensen, La Grande, Ore.; one son, Glenn, Seaford, N.Y.; one brother, James Reinheller, Virginia City, Nev.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
