Lillie Johanna Young
Lillie Johanna (Jiras) Young, 89, 700 S. 12th St., passed away in her home, with her family present, from complications of cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be at 3:15 p.m. Friday at Baldwin Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Lillie was born July 15, 1910, at rural Judson, to Wesley James Jiras and Frederika (Schwinkendorf) Jiras, the youngest member of the Jiras family. In 1912, the family moved to Park Lake, Minn. In 1913, the Jiras family purchased a farm east of Baldwin that joined the farm of Wesley's brother. Lillie attended Cromwell Township grade school, less than a half mile from home, across a small creek. She worked for a few months in Bismarck, spending several weeks quarantined because of having diptheria. She returned to the family farm to work with her parents and brothers on a farm. Lillie married McKinley "Mac" Young at McIntosh, S.D., on Oct. 28, 1940. They lived a few months in rural South Dakota, then returned to rural Wing, where they operated a horse ranch with Mac's sister and her husband, Viola and Datus Hill, where a son, Larry, was born. In the spring of 1944, they moved to a farm north of Menoken, where another son, Roland, was born. The fall of 1945, the Young family moved to a farm east of Baldwin, where Lillie worked long and hard. She moved to Bismarck in November 1978. For the last few years, Lillie contended with diabetes and cancer. Lillie loved all animals and birds, and especially her cats. She is survived by her sons, Larry Young, and Roland Young and his former wives, Catherine and Rita; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her neph-ews, Charles Fischer, Roderick Monroe, Darrel Monroe, Raymond Skoglund and Dewey Jiras; her nieces, Shirley Skoglund and Katherine Stoxen; one sister-in-law, Laura Mae Jiras; special friends, Eileen Elhard and Jacqueline Oschner; and many other great friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, McKinley "Mac" Young, on Aug. 25, 1971; her parents; her brothers, George Jiras, Joseph Jiras and Willie Jiras; her sisters, Louise Fischer and Emma Monroe; an infant daughter, Lenora Jean, in 1947; one nephew, Henry Fischer; one niece, Francis Fischer; and all other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Special mention and thanks to Caroline Hermanson and her many, very caring and thoughtful staff members at Home Medical Resources, for the assistance and comfort afforded Lillie. Mylene A. Zacher
STRASBURG -- Mylene A. Zacher, 62, Strasburg, died April 12, 2000, in Strasburg. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and will continue from 6-9 tonight at the church. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7 tonight. Mylene was born April 11, 1938, in Strasburg, the son of Anton and Mary (Hager) Zacher. He attended rural school and grew up west of Strasburg. Mylene's main passions were his family and farming, which he dedicated most of his life to. He enjoyed nature and working outdoors. Mylene had a special interest in organic farming. In addition, he spent several years in the stack moving business and selling and repairing snowmobiles. Mylene married Patty Voller, Oct. 8, 1966, in Strasburg. Mylene spent his last several years enjoying his work and spending time with his two youngest children, Vicki and Tony. He was especially proud of the interests his son, Tony, shared with him. Mylene is survived by his three daughters, Sandy Zacher and Carla Zacher M.D., both of Bismarck, and Vicki Zacher, Strasburg; two sons, John, Bismarck, and Tony, Strasburg; his mother, Mary Zacher, Strasburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Irene, Rapid City, S.D.; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Antoinette and Clarence Wagner, Rapid City, and Rebecca and Tony Jr. Roth, Strasburg. He was preceded in death by his father, Anton; and two infant sister, Mary and Florence.

Blaine O. Barsness
MINOT -- Blaine O. Barsness, 77, Minot, formerly of the Surrey/Norwich area, died April 12, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. Interment rites will be private. Visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. today and Sunday at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot. There will be no reviewal at the church. Blaine Orlin Barsness was born March 22, 1923, in Surrey, the son of David and Anna (Engebretson) Barsness. He was raised on the family farm in the Surrey/Norwich area and graduated from Norwich High School. He was united in marriage to Margaret Peterson, Nov. 19, 1941, in Norwich. They made their home on a farm north of Surrey, where they farmed for many years before he entered the insurance business - working for Farmer's Union Insurance Company in Minot for over 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he served the organization as president. He was also active with the Magic City Lions Club and in 1996, received the organization's Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services for the Lions Club's International Foundation. He was also a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, and the Elks Lodge 1089 of Minot. He also brought his passion for boating to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary by working as a safety patrol during regattas and fishing tournaments at Lake Sakakawea while he and his family spent summers at the lake. He loved the outdoors, whether he was boating, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling or planting evergreens. He was truly a gentle family man. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Pamela Barsness, Bismarck; one daughter, Cheryl Barsness, Seattle; two grandchildren, Christopher Barsness, San Diego, Calif., and Andrea Barsness-Sornoza, Minneapolis; three sisters, Delia Bowman and Myrtle Lund, both of Minot, and Bernice Gerzewski, Oakhurst, Calif.; and one brother, Olger Barsness, Minot. The family prefers memorials to Trinity Hospice-Home Health or the American Cancer Research Fund.

Michael Nelson Bear Ghost, 73, died April 13, 2000, in a Minneapolis hospital. Arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Leland S. Bodin
WILLISTON -- Leland S. Bodin, 68, Williston, died April 14, 2000, in the Williston hospital. Arrangements are pending at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston.

Quinten Fiebiger
DICKINSON -- Quinten Fiebiger, 86, Dickinson, died April 14, 2000, in Mandan. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Jacob Frye
HARVEY -- Jacob Frye, 90, Harvey, died April 14, 2000, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Vincent Gross
Vincent Gross, 81, Bismarck, died April 13, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon Monday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today and 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday. Vincent was born April 7, 1919, at Brisbane, the son of aloysius and Barbara (Gutman) Gross. He was raised and attended school in rural Grant County. On July 6, 1943, he married Olivia Kopp at Raleigh. They farmed for a brief time in Grant County before moving to Bismarck. He worked as an automotive mechanic for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1989. Following retirement he worked five years for the Bismarck Park Board. Vincent was a lifetime member of the Eagles and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, socializing and visiting with friends and family, and going for rides in the country. He is survived by his wife, Olivia; seven children and their spouses, Donna and Harold Sabot, Madison, Wis., Irene and Ed Bader, and Pat and Vickay Gross, all of Bismarck, Rosemary and Ken Sailer, Mandan, Tim and Julia Gross, Lincoln, and Dorothy Martin and William Gross, both of Bismarck; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Baldwin Gross, Bismarck, and Leo Gross, Great Falls, Mont. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Edwin Horst
CARSON -- Edwin Horst, 89, Carson, died April 13, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Carson. He was a member of Emmaus United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Emmaus U.C.C. Cemetery, Carson. Visitation will be from noon-4 p.m. Sunday at Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig. Edwin was born Feb. 22, 1911, at Carson, to Adam and Rosina (Reister) Horst. He farmed all his life and lived with his mother until her death in 1952. He retired in 1973. His priority in life was woodworking and spending time with the guys every day at the local cafe. He took his daily morning walk for many years. He will be missed by friends and relatives. Edwin is survived by one sister, Hilda Bauer, Chubbuck, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and four brothers.

Robb D. Johnson
ROLETTE -- Robb D. Johnson, 31, Rolette, died April 13, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Leeds Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Wendy; two daughters, Laramie and Larissa Johnson, both at home; his parents, Norval and Arlene Johnson, York; one brother, Ryan, Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters, Ronda Dozorec, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada, Kari Jawski, Breckenridge, Minn., and Kindra Guty, Knox; and his grandparents, Everett and Marian Johnson, Prescott, Ariz. Wayne E. Kost
FESSENDEN -- Wayne E. Kost, 73, Fessenden, died April 12, 2000, in the Carrington hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Bowdon Public School gym, with burial in Wayside Cemetery, Bowdon. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Kelly, Bismarck, and Leland, Prior Lake, Minn.; two daughters, LaVonne Beckler, Fergus Falls, Minn., and Lucinda Wallner, Bowdon; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack, Martin, and Dennis, Mayville; and one sister, Marceda Heitman. CARSON -- Dale Ozbun, 82, Carson, died April 14, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. CDT Monday at American Lutheran Church, Flasher. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Constine "Connie" P. Scholl
Constine "Connie" P. Scholl, 72, Bismarck, died April 11, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital of leukemia. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Edwin Wehner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services. He was born March 9, 1928, in Raleigh, the son of Casper and Monica (Erhardt) Scholl. He attended St. Mary's High School in Bismarck. He then worked for Corwin-Churchill Body Shop for 181Ú2 years. Connie married Sarah Keith on June 17, 1946, in Flasher. In June, 1964, he started Connie's Body Shop, which is still operated today by his sons. He was a member of the Bismarck Elks Lodge for 40 years, Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in 1970 and 1971, and was the tiler at the Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Bismarck Eagles. He enjoyed horseback riding and was a past member of the 7th Cavalry. The cabin at Lake Isabel that he built in 1964 was his pride and joy. He especially enjoyed having his grandchildren spend time with him at the lake. Connie is survived by his wife, Sarah; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet Channel, Costa Mesa, Calif., Yvonne and John Doone, Mill Creek, Wash., and Lynn and Bruce Menne, Bothell, Wash.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel and Debbie, and Arlan and Annette, all of Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Wade Hought, Joy Hought and Todd Hought, Angie Scholl, Jeff Scholl and Madeline Scholl, Brianne Schmidt and Lindsey Schmidt, Haley Menne and Daniel Menne; one brother, Casper, Bismarck; and two sisters, Monica Kahl, Modesto, Calif., and Dorothy Seelye, Flasher. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and sisters; and one grandson, Steven Hought. The family prefers memorials to Elks Camp Grassick. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

He is survived by his sister, Jean Smith, Carrington; two stepsons, Gerald Puterbaugh, Sioux Falls, S.D., and James puterbaugh, Carrington; three stepdaughters, Carrie Purcell, Janette Duursma and Sharon Hewitt, all of Carrington; 16 step-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren. WILLISTON -- Leland "Lee" S. Bodin, 68, Williston, died April 14, 2000 in the Williston hospital.
