Elizabeth M. Peterson
Elizabeth M. Peterson, 91, Bismarck, died April 17, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Elizabeth M. Peterson was born June 26, 1908, in Bismarck, to William and Lena (Scholdon) Glitschka. She was raised and educated in Sioux City, Iowa, and Atlanta, Ga. Elizabeth moved to BIsmarck in the late 1920s and worked at the Home Bake Shop. Elizabeth married Vernie A. Peterson, June 15, 1931, in Selby,S.D. They farmed for 30 years in Naughton Township near Baldwin. They moved to Bismarck in 1969 and she worked with ticket sales at Greyhound Bus Depot until the late 1970s. Elizabeth enjoyed crocheting, baking, and fishing with Vernie. Elizabeth is survived by four grandchildren, Melissa, Lewis, Jericho and Verni A. Peterson II; one nephew, Richard Hanson; and one sister-in-law, Eunice Hanson. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Vernie; her parents; one son, Don Peterson, in 1993; and one brother, Raymond Hanson.

Ardmore L. Thompson
BUCYRUS -- Ardmore L. Thompson, 83, Bucyrus, died April 16, 2000, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Friday at Bucyrus Lutheran Church, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Elsie; three daughters, Andrea Thompson, Milwaukee, Wis., Dee Ann Von Hunke, Syracuse, N.Y., and Sandra Weems, Cerrillos, N.M.; one son, Ardmore, Hettinger; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; and five sisters, Marion Miller, Laguna Hills, Calif., Mavis Tronstad, Kalispell, Mont., Sylvane Weinberger, Vancouver, Wash., Jean Freeman, Roseburg, Ore., and Donna Bower, Port Angeles, Wash. Phyllis Torres, 63, 206 15th St. N.W., Mandan, died April 18, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Clifford T. Volden
WISHEK -- Clifford T. Volden, 91, Wishek, died April 17, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Martha; one son, Ronald, Mankato, Minn.; one daughter, Sharon Hed, Edina, Minn.; four grandsons; and one sister, Pearl Maclean, Seattle. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

Lyle M. Hagen
MADDOCK -- Lyle M. Hagen, 55, Maddock, died March 29, 2000 in Minot. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by three daughters, Christie Jaeger, Esmond, Jennifer Kunz, Bismarck, and Sandra Hagen, Grand Forks; two grandchildren; his mother, Hazel Hagen, Maddock; two brothers, Leland Hagen, Fargo, and Daniel Hagen, Longview, Wash.; three sisters, Helene Fossum, Cooperstown, Lyla Hagen, Bismarck, and Donna Hagen, Mandan. Juliet Marie Hellandsaas
WATFORD CITY -- Juliet Marie Hellandsaas, 70, Watford City, died March 29, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at First Lutheran Church, Watford City. She is survived by her husband, Orville; two sons, John and Scott ; one daughter, Jody Renbarger; three sisters, Lillian Jellesed, Charlson, Doris Berg, Watford City, and Amy Wisness, Bismarck; and one brother, Lynn Swenson, Charlson. Jacob "Jake" Kiemele
LINTON -- Jacob "Jake" Kiemele, 92, Linton, died March 30, 2000 in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at First Baptist Church, Linton, with the Rev. and Lt. Col. (Ret.) LeRoy Kiemele officiating. Burial will be in Linton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday, at Myers Funeral Home, Linton. Jacob was born Nov. 14, 1908 on a farm west of Linton, the son of Jacob Sr. and Margaret (Lang) Kiemele. He attended a rural school and graduated from Linton High School in 1932. Jake worked at the Petrie General Store and attended a Dr. Scholl's Shoe Fitting School in Minneapolis. On Aug. 4, 1940 he married Viola Graf at the First Baptist Church and they made their home in Linton. They purchased the Willow's Store from the Lynns in 1946 and in 1998 they retired. Jake was a member of the First Baptist Church, and served his church as a deacon, trustee and as a Sunday school superintendent. He was a member of the Linton School Board for four years and was a member and past president of the Linton Civic Club. Jake enjoyed people and had a deep faith in his Lord. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Vi Kiemele; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Carol Kiemele, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Kerry and Gary Mattila, Eagan, Minn.; four grandchildren, Kyle and Lauren Kiemele, Colorado Springs, and Morgan and Max Mattila, Eagan; two sisters, Esther Kiemele, Linton, and Emily Kiemele, Bismarck. Jake was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Emanuel, John and Ferdinand, and three sisters, Martha Weber, Ernestine Kiemele and Lydia Tschritter. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

ALEXANDER -- John Thomas Rhodes, 38, rural Alexander, died March 29, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at First Lutheran Church, Watford City. Further arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Gertrude Schneider
GLEN ULLIN -- Gertrude Schneider, 94, Glen Ullin, died March 30, 2000 in Glen Ullin. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Monday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Glen Ullin. Visitation begins after 4 p.m. MDT Sunday at the church and is ongoing until the service time. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. MDT Sunday evening at Sacred Heart in Glen Ullin. Gertrude was born on Jan. 11, 1906 in Glen Ullin, the daughter of Philip Geck Sr. and Christina (Feser) Geck. She was raised on the farm and educated in Glen Ullin. She married Mathias Schneider on Sept. 3, 1924 at Sacred Heart in Glen Ullin. Following their marriage, the couple settled on a farm northeast of Glen Ullin and operated the farm until 1962 when they retired and moved into Glen Ullin. In the past, Gertrude enjoyed gardening, knitting, baking and puzzles. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and the outdoors. She entered the Marian Manor on Oct. 5, 1998, where she has resided since. She was a member of Christian Mothers. She is survived by six sons, Leonard, Glen Ullin, James (Micky), Moorhead, Minn., Sylvester (Barbara), Glen Ullin, Leo (Mary Lou), Belfield, William (LeRae), Rochester, Minn., and John, Dickinson; her daughters, Irene (Donald) Moffett, Fallon, Mont., Bernice (Joe) Walker, LIndsay, Mont., Laura (Frederick) Wehri, Glen Ullin, Margie Ternes, Mandan, Dorothy (Emil) Sauvageau, Belfield, and Rita (Bill) Wedell, Saratoga, Calif.; 54 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Bechhold, Glen Ullin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mathias on May 11, 1964; one son, Lawrence, and an infant; and seven brothers and five sisters. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)

ELGIN -- Bertha Stoller, 71, Elgin, died March 30, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin.

Allan Stuart
Allan Stuart, 80, died March 29, 2000 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Services will be held Monday at West Jordan, Utah, Seventh-day Adventist Church with burial in Utah Veterans Memorial Park. Allan was born on March 19, 1920 in Kansas City, Mo., to James Robert and Geraldine Stuart. He married Amy Hegle in Kansas City on Feb. 14, 1948. Allan was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed singing in male quartets, was a member of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., directed church choirs, and participated in yearly Messiah presentations. He enjoyed photography, oil painting, ceramics and fishing. He served during World War II as a surgical technician in the U.S. Army, serving in Europe. He worked as safety director for the North Dakota Workmen's Compensation Bureau for 22 years, and moved to Salt Lake City after retiring in 1987. He was a member of Veterans of Safety, a lifetime member of the DAV, Painters Union, Salt Lake County Council for the Aging, and past president of the Minot Building Construction Trades. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Amy; his children, Bob (Eileen) Stuart, Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Pam (Calvin) Mertz, Salt Lake City; one son, Dave (Carla) Stuart, Elk Grove, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Otto J. Voegele
GLEN ULLIN -- Otto J. Voegele, 69, Glen Ullin, died March 30, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday, at St. John United Church of Christ, Hebron, with the Rev. Thomas A. Zuhlke officiating. Burial will be in Glen Ullin Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. MDT Monday, prior to the church service. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. MDT Sunday, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, both at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin. There will be no visitation at the church. A prayer service will be said at 5 p.m. MDT Sunday at the funeral home, and a family service will be said at 1 p.m. MDT Monday, also at the funeral home. Otto was born on April 27, 1930 in rural Glen Ullin to Jacob B. and Christianna (Ritter) Voegele. He was raised and educated north of Glen Ullin. He worked a while for a mine near Beulah before moving to the Bismarck/Mandan area where he worked several jobs. He worked construction in that area until he married Pearl Schirado on Nov. 11, 1959 at St. John's in Hebron. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Glen Ullin and farmed north of town until retiring in 1996. Otto was active in community affairs having been involved with the Fire Department, Glen Ullin Lions, Glen Ullin Development Association, School Board and a member of the Bismarck Elks. Otto was also active in his church, serving a number of terms on the council. He is survived by his wife, Pearl; two daughters, Cynthia (Marlin) Martin, Rapid City, S.D., and Linda Wegner, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Jea Lynn Martin, Houston, Texas, Dustin Martin, Lead, S.D., Christopher Wegner, Bismarck, and Robyn Wegner, Bismarck; four grandchildren; six brothers, Ted and Eugene, both of Beulah, Bill, Dan and Milton, all of Bismarck, Alvin, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and one sister, Ruth Kinnischtzke, Glen Ullin. She is survived by two sons, James, Englewood, Colo., and Robert, New Rockford; one daughter, Susan Matejcek, Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Persson, Rochester, Minn., and Fred Persson, Moorhead, Minn.; and five sisters, Violet Hickey, Bellevue, Wash., Ruth Lacina, St. Paul Park, Minn., Doris Alin and Evelyn Martin, both of West Fargo, and Joan Lagodinski, Moorhead, Minn. Rita Kay "Dixie" Enerson
REEDER -- Rita Kay "Dixie" Enerson, 54, Reeder, died April 18, 2000 at her home of cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Reeder, with burail in Bucyrus Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; two daughters, Kristie Rants, Big Lake, Minn., and Marcie Schulz, Fargo; three sisters, Jean Huggins, Kewanee, Ill., Linda Caron, Rapid City, S.D., and Bonnie Stinchfield, Bowman; and five grandchildren. Gladys Johnson
ALAMO -- Gladys Johnson, 78, Alamo, died April 17, 2000 in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Faith Lutheran Church, north of Williston, with burial in Bethesda Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Arnie; one brother, Clarence Knudsvig, Williston; and one sister, Dolly Lindsey, Crosby. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Ross Knute Kleppe
NAPOLEON -- Ross Knute Kleppe, 73, Napoleon, died April 18, 2000 in the Wishek hospital. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre, with the Rev. Victor St. George officiating. Burial will be in Tell Cemetery, rural Kintyre. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Ross was born on Feb. 28, 1927 in rural Kintyre, the son of Rasmus O. and Martha (Knudsen) Kleppe. Ross attended grade school in rural Kintyre and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1946. On June 26, 1949, Ross was married to Irene Merkel at Braddock. Ross then entered the Dakota Business College in Fargo, and graduated from 1951, with a degree in accounting. In 1952, Ross was drafted into the Army and served as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. While serving in the military, he earned the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the United States Service Medal. Following his honorable discharge, Ross and Irene began farming in rural Kintyre. They eventually moved to the farm which was homesteaded by Ross's parents. In 1995, he retired from farming and the couple moved into Napoleon where they currently reside. Ross was very proud to be an active member of the Barry Hoff American Legion Post No. 72, the Bismarck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326, Napoleon Golden Age Club, Tell Cemetery Board and Trinity Lutheran Church. He also served as Tell Township Assessor for many decades. Survivors include: his wife, Irene Kleppe, Napoleon; a son, James (Brenda) Kleppe, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Jennifer (Randy) Schumacher, Napoleon; three very special grandchildren, Sarah Kleppe, Justin and Jerrod Schumacher. He also leaves two sisters, Elly Kleppe, Billings, Mont., and Astrid (Orville) Helmle, Santa Cruz, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Olav Kleppe.
