LANGDON -- Cornelius Schill, 61, Langdon, died April 17, 2000, near Langdon. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Mt. Carmel, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two sons, Damus, Bismarck, and Darin, New Salem; four grandchildren; and six brothers, Donald, Enumclaw, Wash., Kenneth, Hannah, Stephen, Utah, Roger, Colorado, Larry, East Grand Forks, Minn., and Terry, Grand Forks. Thomas Steckler
FARGO -- Thomas Steckler, 78, Fargo, died April 20, 2000, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending.

Phyllis A. Torres
Phyllis A. Torres, 63, 206 15th St. N.W., Mandan, died April 18, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with Chaplain Burnie Kunz officiating. Phyllis has donated her body to the University of North Dakota Medical School for medical research purposes. Phyllis Jernigan was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of Robert Stanley and Thelma (Beasley) Jernigan Sr. She was raised and educated in Norfolk. On Dec. 2, 1951, she married Henry Torres Jr. in Norfolk. She was a devoted mother and housewife who took great pride in her family. She enjoyed all music from classical to old rock and roll. Her special interests included ceramics and needlepoint. She is survived by one son, Henry "Chip" Torres III, Bismarck; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lynda and Raymond Olson, Marco Island, Fla., Pamela and Ronald Muth, Mandan, and Dominique Torres, Virginia Beach, Va.; three granddaughters, Brooke, Whitney and Kelly Olson, Marco Island; and one brother, Robert Stanley Jernigan Jr., Virginia Beach. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marlene Wilhelm
NEW ENGLAND -- Marlene Wilhelm, 57, New England, died April 17, 2000, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Monday at New England Assembly of God Church, with burial in New England cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Donald; one son, Terry, New England; one daughter, Tammy Mackui, Dickinson; five grandchildren; her mother, Anna Keller, New England; and two brothers, Duane Keller, Indianapolis, Ind., and Doug Keller, New England. Steve Zarr
DODGE -- Steve Zarr, 84, Dodge, died April 19, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Arthur Benson
MADDOCK -- Arthur Benson, 86, Maddock, died April 20, 2000 in a Fargo hospital. Arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

James B. Blair
James B. Blair, 70, 1428 N. 22nd Street, Bismarck, died April 20, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jacob Kincaid officiating. Burial will be in Hauge Cemetery, Alamo. Visitation begins 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Jim was born July 23, 1929 at Williston, to Anna Mae Blair. He was raised and educated in Williston and attended Wahpeton School of Science. On Aug. 14, 1955, he married Blanche Hillestad in Alamo. He worked for Greengaards in Williston, Sears in Spokane, Wash., Self Service Furniture, Conlins and Magi Touch, Bismarck, before retiring in 1995. Jim took an avid interest in the community youth. He was one of the founders of Bismarck youth hockey and volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America. Jim was also past president of the Riverwood Men's Golf Association. He volunteered at the Heritage Center and was involved with the Adult Learning Center. An active member of First Presbyterian Church, Jim was a Sunday School teacher and served as Deacon and Elder. He enjoyed volunteering at the church daycare. Golfing, playing cards, reading and following his grandchildren's sports and activities were some of Jim's favorite ways to spend time. He was a very warm and loving man, always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need whether young or old. He looked forward to vacations with friends and family in Riding Mountain, Canada and Detroit Lakes. Jim is survived by his mother, Anna Mae Blair, Minneapolis; his wife, Blanche; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sandi, Brian and Candy, all of Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Kurtis Goos, Eagan, Minn.; his grandchildren, Justin, Kaija and Tanner Blair, Bismarck; Andrew and Alex Blair, Bismarck; Emma Marie Goos, Brody, Va., Minnesota, Eagan, Minn., Lacey and Drew, Bismarck; his wife's three brothers; four sisters and their spouses and families, whom he loved as if they were his own. George Heiser
DICKINSON -- George Heiser, 86, Dickinson, died April 20, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Entombment will follow in Dickinson Mausoleum. He is survived by his wife, Emma; two daughters, Eileen Heinert, Manning, and Gladys Weiler, Dickinson; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Andy Heiser, Dickinson; and two sisters, Margaret Jablonsky and Lena Heiser, both of Dickinson. Owen Heller
WILLISTON -- Owen Heller, 86, Williston, died April 20, 2000 in a Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; his children, Ron, Williston, and Jon, rural Williston, Lois Moore, Grand Forks, JoAn Tangen, Dickinson; and two sisters, Signe Langsdorf and Solvi Greene, Williston; and 11 grandchildren. Pauline A. Kostelecky
Pauline A. Kostelecky, 97, Dickinson, died April 20, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Dickinson. She is survived by three sons, Edwin A. and Pete, both of Dickinson, and Don, Fergus Falls, Minn.; four daughters, Mary Rhode, Bismarck, Bette Gottsacker, Gervais, Ore., Rosemary Jablonsky, Argyle, Texas, and Fran Thompson, Cranberry Township, Penn.; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, George Sykora, Dickinson. Clarence R. Moyer, 78, Mandan, died April 20, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Mandan United Methodist Church, 211 2nd Ave. NW. Further arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

FARGO -- Christine Remboldt, 86, Fargo, died April 20, 2000 at her home in Fargo. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with burial in Gackle City Cemetery. She is survived by her children, Rosetta Gold, Napa, Calif., Delano Remboldt, Edina, Minn., Suzetta Remboldt, Fargo; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one brother and two sisters, Raymond Dorr, Worland, Wyo., Marie Meidinger, Jamestown, and Alice Greenfield, Basin, Wyo. NEW TOWN -- Dwight Satermo, 69, New Town, died April 19, 2000 in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Bethel Lutheran Church, New Town, with burial in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan, at 3 p.m. Monday. He is survived by his wife, Neva; his sons, Scott and Bruce, Fargo; his daughters, Lisa Satermo, Fargo, Barbara Mayo, Cavalier, and Joyce Leigh, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and his brothers, Dale, Bismarck, and Keith, Moorhead, Minn.; and one sister, Eunice Lohse, Minot; and nine grandchildren. Leavy Sauter
LINTON -- Leavy Sauter, 74, Linton, died April 19, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at First Baptist Church, Linton, with the Rev. Conrad Baggott officiating. Burial will be in Linton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton. A prayer service will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Leavy was born March 3, 1926 on a farm near Linton, the son of August and Paulina (Herbold) Sauter. He attended a rural school. Leavy farmed with his family until he bought his own farm southwest of Linton. On Sept. 21, 1973, he married Judy Graber at the First Baptist Church, Linton, and they made their home on the farm. In 1979, they moved into Linton. Leavy enjoyed yard work and gardening. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Judy; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sonja Graber, Daren and Cherie Graber, all of Fredonia, and Douglas and Kathleen Graber, Rosemont, Minn.; six grandchildren, Kyle, Lisa, Tara, Jesse, Brianna and Isabella; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Art and Sandra Sauter, Alvin and Deloris Sauter and Dorothy Sauter, all of Linton; five sisters and one brother-in-law, Edna Bossert, Linton, Phyllis Will, Hazelton, Betty Schuetz, Mandan, Lillian Albrecht, Bismarck, Ilean and Richard Ellestad, Lewistown, Mont. Leavy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edwin Sauter. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Mary M. Schaff
Mary M. Schaff, 91, formerly of Mandan, died April 14, 2000 in Tacoma, Wash. Services were held on April 18 at Visitation Catholic Church, Tacoma. She is survived by her children, Jack, Tony, Dorothy Frey, Hilda Johnson, Barbara Wurtz, Kenneth, Janice Lemirand, Mary Ann Mathis; 40 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Monica Pitzer, Katie Quillhorst, Margaret Bullinger, Betty Bullinger and Gertie Schmidt. Thomas Steckler
Thomas Steckler, 78, Fargo, died April 20, 2000 in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 707 and the American Legion Post 40. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Thomas E. was born on Aug. 23, 1921 in Mandan, the son of Alex and Menna (Blind) Steckler. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1938. He worked as a bell hop for the Lewis and Clark Hotel. A year after graduation, Tom joined the Navy and during his 20 years of service, served in both World War II and the Korean War. His only trips across the Atlantic was escorting troops to England in 1940. He was aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown, when it was sunk in the Battle of the Midway in 1942. He was then stationed on the aircraft carriers, Saratoga and the USS Intrepid. During the Korean War, he served on the USS Princeton. On June 28, 1958, he was married to Marjorie Michelson in Key West, Fla. After his discharge, Tom worked for the North Dakota Employment Service in Mandan and then was transferred to Fargo, where he retired in 1985. He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion. Tom is survived by his sister, Donna Behrens, and his nephew, Alfred Behrens Jr., both of Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Margie, who died in 1989.
