MOTT -- Joseph A. Zich, 78, Mott, died April 22, 2000 in an Aurora, Colo. hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Margery; four sons, Richard, Coral Springs, Fla., Lawrence, Fargo, Dale, Mott, and Terrance, Macon, Ga.; one daughter, Patricia Hoyhtya, Fraser, Colo.; one stepson, Patrick O'Neil, Beulah; three stepdaughters, Penelope O'Neil, Elgin, Katherine Netzer, Bismarck, and Tween Schnaidt, Aurora, Colo.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson; 12 step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sister Agnes Zich, Merrill, Wis., and Rose Magelky. Barbara Ann Cottonwood
FORT YATES -- Barbara Ann Cottonwood, 62, Fort Yates, died April 25, 2000, in the Mobridge, S.D. hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Fort Yates, with burial in St. James Episcopal Cemetery, Cannon Ball. She is survived by one son, Emery Dwarf, Mobridge; four daughters, Carol Dwarf, Mary Dwarf, Henrietta Dwarf and Julie Dwarf, all of Fort Yates; one sister, Mary White Twinn, Seattle; and 15 grandchildren. Ervin Hirning
HAGUE -- Ervin Hirning, 77, Hague, died April 26, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Herreid, S.D., with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Zeeland. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; two sons, Sherlock, Eureka, S.D., and Scott, Hague; one daughter, Bondell Stam, Fargo; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arthur Hochhalter
BOWMAN -- Arthur Hochhalter, 83, Bowman, died April 25, 2000, in a Billings, Mont. hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday at Bowman United Methodist Church, Bowman, with burial in Bowman Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Viola; two sons, Bob, Chipita Park, Colo., and Connie, Bozeman; one sister, Martha Dockter, Eureka, S.D.; five brothers, Walter, Jake and Ted, all of Wishek, Edward, Bowman, and Edwin, Cumming, Ga.; and six grandchildren. DICKINSON -- Alois E. Kubischta, 100, Dickinson, died April 27, 2000, in a Dickinson nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Oscar L. Lang
ZAP -- Oscar L. Lang, 78, Zap, died April 27, 2000, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah, with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. He is survived by six sisters, Hertha Boyko, Donna VanderVorst, Ida Griffith, Esther Lang, Viola Graff and Verna Mae Schaff; and one brother, Ray.

Grace Leben
Grace Leben, 62, Mandan, died April 26, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. Robert Nordvall officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Wilton. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Grace Amelia Leben was born Dec. 25, 1937, the daughter of Walter and Hazel (Erickson) Leben. She was raised and attended school in Wilton. Grace resided in Grafton and Jamestown until moving to Bismarck in 1983. She enjoyed attending day services from Enable and HIT. Grace enjoyed singing and socializing and coffee, apple pie and diet coke. Grace is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Paul Hruby, Wilton; one brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Margy Leben, Auburn, Wash.; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Leben, Devils Lake, Jane Leben, West Fargo, and Lorraine Leben, Rancho Cordova, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and John Gilbraith; and four brothers, Kenneth, Bill, Howard and Leonard.

Adam Frank Schwengler
NAPOLEON -- Adam Frank Schwengler, 84, formerly of Napoleon, died April 26, 2000, in Park Rapids, Minn. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Park Rapids, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons, Steve, Andover, Minn., and Dean, Crystal, Minn.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Anton, Billings, Mont., Lewis, Bismarck, Eugene, Park Rapids, Jacob, Fargo, Peter, St. Francis, Minn., and Bill, Bismarck; and four sisters, Rose Glasser, San Mateo, Calif., Josephine Hemmilspack, Bismarck, Betty Swenson, Bismarck, and Alice Erath, Mandan. Leonard R. "Bob" Thorsen
Leonard R. "Bob" Thorsen, 74, Bismarck, died April 26, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Art Scanson and Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with a flag presentation by VFW Post 1326. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a Masonic service will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Leonard was born to Aslak and Thea Thorsen on April 23, 1926, in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1944. After serving in the United States Army 11th Airborne Division in World War II, he attended Mason City Junior College. He married Joan Moore on Nov. 18, 1950, in Mason City. They lived in Minneapolis where he was employed by Montana Dakota Utilities in 1951. In 1968 they were transferred to Bismarck. He retired in 1989. He was an active member of McCabe United Methodist Church, serving on many boards and committees over the years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 5, York Rite, El Zagal Shrine, Mandan Indian Shrine Unit, and received the El Zagal SamSar Award in 1986, served as circus chairman in 1990, and was awarded Mason of the Year in 1994-1995. He was a charter member of the Scottish Rite H.E.L.P. Center and was presently serving as secretary of the Missouri Slope Shrine Club. He was past president of the United Way, was a life member of Bismarck Elks, American Legion and VFW. He was a charter member of Bismarck Golden "K" and served as president in 1993-1994. Bob's family always came first in his life -- holidays and lake vacations, teaching the grandchildren to fish and golf, were among his happiest times. His enthusiasm for life was never more evident than when he was on the golf course with friends. He is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Jerry Delange, and Barbara and Allan Jirges; three grandchildren, Neal Delange, and Leigh and Christopher Jirges; one sister-in-law, Wilda Thorsen, Scottsdale, Ariz.; one nephew and one niece, David Thorsen and Ann Tackett, both of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Willard "Bill" Thorsen. The family prefers memorials to the Scottish Rite H.E.L.P. Center or McCabe United Methodist Church.

Cameron Eugene Vatnsdal
MINOT -- Cameron Eugene Vatnsdal, the infant son of Les and Corrine Vatnsdal, Minot, was stillborn April 26, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, with burial in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. He is survived by his parents; one brother, Travis, Minot; and his grandparents, Ernest and Eunice Schirado, Glen Ullin, and Eugene and Judy Vatnsdal, Grand Forks; and his great-grandmother, Caroline Sebastian, Hebron.

Leroy Kent Butler
Leroy Kent Butler Sr., 67, 306 S. Second St., died April 27, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with full military rites by VFW Post 1326 Honor Guard of Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Leroy was born June 14, 1932, in Mandan, the son of Frank and Sarah (Carlson) Butler. He was raised and educated in Mandan. Leroy joined the U.S. Army in 1950 and was discharged in 1952 with an honorable discharge. On Jan. 21, 1954, he married Neimfa Schreiner in Mandan. He then served in the National Guard for 10 years. He was employed with many different jobs in the community. He was noted for his special talents working with the young disabled people with Pride Inc. He was active in AA, assisting people with their needs. Leroy was also employed with the postal service for 15 years, after which he retired. He is survived by his wife, Neimfa; four sons and three daughters-in-law, David and Vickie, Leroy Jr. and Charlene, and James and Jodi, all of Mandan, and Mike and a special friend, Rauscha Meek, Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Darlene and a special friend, Denver Hinman, Billings, Mont., and Shelley and Ken Couch, Menoken; nine grandchildren, Dana, Justin, Nash, Angel, Jeremy, Dwaun, Shannon, Santana, Chad, and another arrival soon; seven brothers, Raymond, Walter, Wayne, George and Gary, all of Mandan, Bob, Collinsville, Okla., and Arnold, Sidney, Mont.; three sisters, Donna Ennen, Lincoln, Erma Risch, Tacoma, Wash., and Genievieve Handloas, Vancouver, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Sister Emmanuel Feist
Sister Emmanuel Feist, 83, a founding member of the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery, Bismarck, died April 27, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of the Annunciation Priory located in the former monastery. Visitation will begin at 4:15 p.m. today in the monastery, where a wake service will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday. Sister Emmanuel served 33 years at St. Alexius Medical Center. She was the night nurse supervisor and organized and directed central supply. After she received a bachelor's degree in pharmacy, she worked in the pharmacy department for 26 years and for a number of years directed that department. She also earned a master's degree in pharmacy and taught pharmacology at the St. Alexius School of Nursing and the University of Mary. Sister Emmanuel was a committed, gentle woman known for her generous spirit, kindness to everyone and willingness to help and teach others. A Benedictine for nearly 61 years, she cherished her relationship with God and nourished it with prayer. She loved her religious community and her family. Born Jan. 28, 1917, in Zeeland, Anna was the oldest child of Joseph and Melania (Malsam) Feist and grew up with four brothers and two sisters. She entered St. Benedict's Convent, St. Joseph, Minn., in 1937, and made her monastic profession on July 11, 1939. Sister Emmanuel is survived by two sisters, Josephine Schatz, Bismarck, and Hilda Hulm, Hague; three brothers, Bill, Bismarck, Victor, Zeeland, and Adam, Hague; and the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery. Willard Gordon
WILLISTON -- Willard Gordon, 71, Williston, died April 28, 2000, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Alois Kubischta
DICKINSON -- Alois Kubischta, 100, Dickinson, died April 27, 2000, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by one daughter, Mathilda Gartner, Dickinson; one son, Henry, Dickinson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Hilda Rahn
BEULAH -- Hilda Rahn, 89, Beulah, died April 27, 2000, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Old Peace Cemetery, Hazen. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-noon Monday at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen. Hilda was born Feb. 8, 1911, near Krem, the daughter of Gotthilf and Katharina (Tschaekofske) Grosz. She grew up and was educated in the Krem area. Following her education, Hilda remained on her parent's farm and helped. On Dec. 26, 1937, Hilda was united in marriage to Albert Rahn at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. To this marriage, they were blessed with two sons, Gene and Dallas. Together, Hilda and Albert farmed 10 miles north of Hazen. Following Albert's death in 1974, Hilda moved to Hazen, where she resided until moving into Knife River Care Center in Beulah. She was a member of Krem area Homemakers Club and was active in the Peace Lutheran Ladies Aide in Hazen. Hilda enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and guests. She especially enjoyed her family and will be missed by all. She is survived by her son, Dallas, Layton, Utah; two sisters, Selma Huber and Leona Lamphier; one brother, Erwin Grosz; three sisters-in-law, Edna Rahn, Adina Haining and Ida Shiney; and one brother-in-law, Fred Harbecke. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gene; five brothers and two sisters.

Veronica Shiele
Veronica Shiele, 84, Bismarck, died April 28, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Bonnilyn J. Thompson
Bonnilyn J. Thompson, 54, 2970 Ontario Lane, died April 28, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Goodrich Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. today, and 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Bonnie was born Nov. 13, 1945, at Harvey, the daughter of Edmond and Adeline (Hanson) Konschak. She was raised on the family farm near Goodrich, and graduated from Goodrich High School in 1963. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo from the fall of 1963 to the fall of 1964. During the summer months, while attending school, she worked for the International Harvester Dealership in Goodrich. Following school she worked at West Fargo State Bank, Transport Inc., Moorhead, Minn., and Dakota Clinic, Fargo. On Feb. 11, 1967, she married Bill Thompson at the American Lutheran Church in Fargo. In 1974 she moved to Bismarck and began working for Mandan Chrysler-Plymouth and when they combined with Corwin Churchill she continued working for them as their office manager. Bonnie was very devoted to her work and even though she was ill she continued working right up to the end. Bonnie enjoyed gardening, walking, dancing, and was an awesome cook, and specialized in making pies. She was a wonderful person who was very caring, had a huge heart, was one of the hardest working people you could ever meet and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tanya, Bismarck; one daughter, Kristi, and her special friend, Kirk Kreklau; her parents, Edmond and Adeline Konschak, Goodrich; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Karen, Kenneth and Marjorie, Baylen and Sheri, all of Goodrich, and Blair and Kitt, Bismarck; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Collette and Louis Ternes, and Caroline and Lynn Johnston, all of Bismarck; one precious grandson, Cole Thompson, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald.

Clarence Baumiller
BALDWIN -- Clarence Baumiller, 84, Baldwin, went home on March 31, 2000. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Baldwin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday, both at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Clarence was born on April 9, 1915 in Parkston, S.D., one of 18 children to John and Rose (Giegle) Baumiller. He was raised and educated in the Baldwin area. At the age of 19, Clarence entered the service in the CC for two years. He married Bertha Buchmann on Dec. 19, 1941 on the farm south of Hanover. In 1942, they moved to Baldwin and farmed for 54 years. Clarence enjoyed raising cattle, rummage sales, auction sales, fishing and making bird houses. He is survived by his wife Bertha, Baldwin; one daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Clarence Hein, Baldwin; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie, Baldwin; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; five sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Clarence Jr.; two brothers and one sister. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck).
