Jack Eggum, 57, Glendive, Mont., died April 1, 2000 in a Billings, Mont. hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday, at Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Glendive, with burial in Dawson Memorial Cemetery, Glendive. He is survived by his wife, Marlys, Glendive; three sons, Corey, Glendive, Jeramy, Seattle, Wash., and Hardys, San Diego, Calif.; his mother Mae Eggum, Glendive; and one brother, Orris, Spanaway, Wash. Lawrence Bernard Heister
MCCLUSKY -- Lawrence Bernard Heister, 91, McClusky, and formerly of Austin, Minn., died April 2, 2000 in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Austin, Minn. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Visitation will continue at the Mayer Funeral Home, Austin, on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Lawrence was born on Aug. 19, 1908 near McClusky. He was the son of Everhard and Mary (Tiemessen) Heister. He grew up and attended rural school in the McClusky area. He began farming in the McClusky area. He served in the Army during World War II and took part in the Normany Invasion in Europe. He was honorably discharged and returned to the McClusky area and farmed. He married Agnes Dorothy Holland on Jan. 12, 1946 in Austin, Minn. They lived in the McClusky area until 1949 when they moved to a farm near Austin. Agnes died on April 12, 1980. He returned to McClusky in August 1996 and lived in the Sheridan Memorial Home. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in McClusky and the Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He is survived by one sister, Clara Schmidt, Bismarck; numerous nephews and nieces including Virginia Hoffer, McClusky, Beverly Elliott, Omaha, Margaret Schuster, Indianola, Wash., David Marson, Papillion, Neb.; one grandniece, Wendy Higgins, Rockford, Ill.; and great-grandnephews, Jeffery and Benjamin Higgins. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Francis; his sisters, Cecelia Marson and Agatha Kepplinger. (Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky)

Grace Kreil
JAMESTOWN -- Grace Kreil, 75, Jamestown, died April 1, 2000 in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at The Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown. She is survived by her husband, Jack; five children, Rosemary Elstad, Bolingbrook, Ill., Jack Jr., Jamestown, Karen Lee, Jamestown, Jeffrey, Jamestown, and Kurtis, Jamestown; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Edward Burton, Seattle, Wash., and O'Dowd Burton, Jamestown. Thomas L. Marchand
HARVEY -- Dr. Thomas L. Marchand, 74, Harvey, died March 31, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Emaline; two sons, Tom Jr., Harvey, and Mark, Yuma, Ariz.; four daughters, Roxann Nickel, Harvey, Lisa Wentz, Esmond, Roberta Boser, Harwood, and Annette Marchand, Fargo; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wallace, Fargo, and Raymond, Moorhead, Minn.; and two sisters, Della Folendorf, Lebanon, Ore., and Alma Aubol, Shelton, Wash. Leony Red Tomahawk
FORT YATES -- Leony Red Tomahawk, 48, Fort Yates, died April 2, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Jacob "Jack" Schauer
Jacob "Jack" Schauer, 63, Bismarck, died after a long illness on April 1, 2000 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at First Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Stephen Wisthoff officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Boelter Funeral Home, and one Wednesday, for one hour prior to the service at the church. Jack was born on Nov. 23, 1936 in Denver, Colo., the son of Jacob and Katherina (Hausauer) Schauer. He was raised and educated in Jamestown. Jack was baptized, confirmed and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He lived and worked in Jamestown and Fergus Falls, Minn., where he worked for Red Owl, and later moved to Bismarck. Jack married Nancy Zimmerman on Aug. 20, 1961. Together, they raised six children. Jack was a mason by trade. He was employed by Moline Construction in Jamestown, and later employed by Froeschle and by Burns Construction Companies in Bismarck. Jack served in the National Guard, was a member of the Eagles and Bricklayers Allied Craftsmen. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob and Donna, Modesto, Calif., James and Marie, Gregory, S.D., Jeffrey and Debra, Overland Park, Kan., and Joel and Kami, Isanti, Minn.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Volinda Taxis and her fiance, Dan Johnson, Jamestown, and Pam and Myron Magstadt, Maple Grove, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Shauna, MeLissa, Christina, Jacob, Aubrey, Ethan, Devyn, Tanner and Erin; and two great-grandchildren, Bianca and Bailey. Jack was a true friend and a special husband, father and grandfather; he will be truly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Dennis Walker
OBERON -- Dennis Walker, 59, Oberon, died April 2, 2000 in a Fargo hospital. Arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

George Henry Engelter
George Henry Engelter, 91, Denver, Colo., died April 2, 2000. A memorial service was held at Augustana Lutheran Church with burial in Fairmount Cemetery. Mr. Engelter was born in New Salem, on Oct. 7, 1908. He has made his home in Denver since 1967. He was married to Harriett Goodman, who passed away in 1968; Mary Ehrlich Kline who passed away in 1987; and Jeannette Thress who passed away in 1994. He was involved in management capacities with large newspaper-owned radio stations in Des Moines, Memphis, Kansas City, and in North Dakota from 1929 to 1960. During World War II, he was director of radio and communications at the U.S. Naval Advance Base Depot in Oxnard, Calif., for which he received the Civilian Meritorious Service Award. In 1960, he retired from active radio and television operations to become the managing director of the North Dakota Motor Carriers Association with the American Trucking Association as a lobbyist for the transportation industry; he retired in 1967. After retirement, he volunteered for AARP until 1998,serving first as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the AARP Voter Education Fund; then as a member of the associations' National Legislative Council. He helped found AARP Vote and served as a member of the AARP Colorado State Legislative Committee. He was a member of the Board of Directors for AARP from 1990-1998; and on the Executive Board of the National Stroke Association. Survivors include twon daughters, Barbara Studenka, Arvada, Colo., and Julie Schauer Helgaas, Jamestown; two granddaughters, Breanna Studenka and Sarah Schauer Erstad; and two grandsons, James and Thomas Schauer. Harold Harstad
MINOT -- Harold Harstad, 69, Minot, died April 1, 2000 in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot, with burial in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. He is survived by his wife, Shelly; one son, Bryan, Eden Prairie, Minn.; one brother, Robert, Minot; his sisters, Marles Smestad, Sherwood, Aldora Olson, Underwood, and Marie Schmitcke, Minot. Chester Jerabek
Chester Jerabek, 81, Mandan, died April 1, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Paul D. Fiske officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, south of Mandan. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be said at 4 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Chester Frank Jerabek was born on Oct. 16, 1918 in rural Morton County, the son of Frank and Rosie (Melichar) Jerabek. He was raised and educated there, and he married Alvina Renken on April 25, 1944. They farmed southwest of Mandan until they moved to Mandan in 1998. Chester's life was centered on his love of the land and his farm. He also cherished time spent with his great-granddaughter, Hunter. Chester is survived by his wife, Alvina; his daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Dean Olson, Maple Grove, Minn.; two grandchildren, Craig Olson and Kristin Alinder and her husband, Mark; his great-granddaughter, Hunter Marie Alinder; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Darwin; and two sisters. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Raymond Klipfel
ASHLEY -- Raymond Klipfel, 75, Ashley, died March 31, 2000 in the Ashley nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Huldina; three sons, James, Ashley, Bryan and Mark, both of Bismarck; four daughters, Jocelyn Kraemer, Oakes, Janet Vossler, Palm Desert, Calif., Tamara Haas, Hamilton, Mont., and Michele Howard, Dublin, Calif.; five sisters, Bernice Gehring, Lodi, Calif., Gertrude Schumacher, Watertown, S.D., Erna Scherle, Santa Monica, Calif., Darlene Mund, Mandan, and Betty Finger, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and 15 grandchildren. NEW ROCKFORD -- Shirley Kreie, 72, New Rockford, died April 3, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church, New Rockford. Further arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Jacob "Jack" Schauer
Jacob "Jack" Schauer, 63, Bismarck, died after a long illness on April 1, 2000, at a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. He died April 2, 2000, in his home. He is survived by three sons, Duane, Lemmon, Darin, Long Island, N.Y., and Devin, Fort Pierre; one daughter, Denise Haugen, Bismarck; seven grandchildren; and five sisters, Mary Doerr, Lakewood, Colo., Grace Smith, Quitman, Texas, Lula Rhotan, Edmond, Okla., Joyce Weatherford, Eric, Okla., and Frieda Harris, Dell, Okla.
