RICHARDTON -- Charles Schmidt, 85, Richardton, died April 6, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT today, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by four children, LaVonne Schmidt, Richardton, Frieda Boespflug, Taylor, Chuck Schmidt, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gloria Schmalenberger, Hebron; one sister, Sister Macaria Schmidt, O.S.B., Pierre, S.D.; one stepsister, Mary Butsch, Mandan, two half-brothers, Bill Butch, Kirkland, Wash., and Julius Butch, Germany; and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. John Shockley
John Shockley, 98, Columbia Heights, Minn., and formerly of Lake Williams, died April 6, 2000 in a St. Paul, Minn., hospital. Arrangements are pending with Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

John Vincent Smith
DICKINSON -- John Vincent Smith, 92, Dickinson, died April 7, 2000 in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday, at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending with Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Art Belland
NEW ENGLAND -- Art Belland, 73, New England, died April 7, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, New England. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Esther Bloedau
MOTT -- Esther Bloedau, 87, Mott, died April 5, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mott. Further arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Edward Brennise
Edward Brennise, 82, Bismarck, died April 7, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Lisa Ahlness officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service. Edward was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Regan, the son of Gottlieb and Lydia (Hochhalter) Brennise. He was raised and educated in Regan. Edward married Ann Wyknenko on Aug. 11, 1939. They lived in Redmond, Ore. He worked there at a saw mill. They moved back to Bismarck in 1943 and Edward began working at Universal Motors until 1945. He then entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to work at Universal Motors until January 1957. He then owned and operated Ed's Body and Radiator Shop until he retired in 1979. Edward enjoyed playing cards and volunteering at the Bismarck Senior Center and Medcenter One Hospital. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gary and Sharon Brennise, Bismarck, and Richard Brennise, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Mark Schmitt, Hurdsfield; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Art Moldenhauer; two brothers-in-law, Arnie Felchle and Walter Felchle; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gottlieb and Lydia Brennise; five brothers, Vernon, Ray, Melvin, Roy and Douglas; four sisters, Lois, Bernita, Shirley and Josephine; and two great-grandsons, Edward Jon Brennise and Nicholas Jon Brennise. Edward will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

Shelby L. Campbell
JAMESTOWN -- Shelby L. Campbell, daughter of Gretchen (Lang) and Jeremy Campbell was born and died April 5, 2000, in a Jamestown hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown. She is survived by her parents, Jeremy and Gretchen Campbell, Jamestown; and her grandparents, Myrle and Eugenie Lang, Jamestown, Terry (Dave) Onuschuk, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Robert (Cindy) Campbell, Sweet, Idaho. Bryce Cotton
WILLISTON -- Bryce Cotton, the infant son of David Stensaker and Teresa Cotton, died April 7, 2000. Arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Mardel Flaten
Mardel Flaten, 63, Mandan, died April 5, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, withthe Rev. Walter Schott officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Monday and until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Mardel was born Nov. 29, 1936, in Portland, the son of Olaf and Inga (Holm) Flaten. Raised and educated in the area, he graduated from Portland High School. A North Dakota game warden for 20 years, he moved to Mandan in 1971, where he operated Mardel's Mobile Home Service. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and his German Short Hair dogs. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Jerry Bier, Mandan; his son, Mike, Fergus Falls, Minn.; numerous brothers and sisters; and his special friend, Lorraine Weber.

Anne Footitt
Anne Footitt, 76, Moorhead, Minn., died April 6, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Bob and Mike, both of Fargo; one daughter, Cheryl Lipp, West Fargo; one sister, Peggy Schaffer, Bismarck; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. (Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead)

Lizzie Jesser
Services for Lizzie Jesser, 88, St. Therese Home, New Hope, Minn., will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, Minn., with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, New Hope. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Kapala-Glodek-Malone Chapel, New Hope, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Lizzie was born June 13, 1911, in McLean County, to Jacob and Kathrine (Ali) Schatz, and lived in the Bismarck area for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; and one son, Eugene "Sam" Jesser. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Louetta Kelly, Dale and Jeanette Jesser, Victor and Linda Jesser, Indianapolis, Ind., Eileen and Dick Doberstein, Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Adeline and Jack Stark, Terra Haute, Ind.; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives in the Bismarck area.

Duane Johnson
WILLISTON -- Duane Johnson, 68, Williston, died April 6, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Jeffrey Knudson
Jeffrey Knudson, 18, Bismarck, died April 8, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Gerald "Jerry" Leno
Gerald "Jerry" Leno, 66, died March 29, 2000, in his home in Florissant, Colo. He was a pilot, retired contractro of SunSaver Homes, and owner of and broker for Thunderbird Realty. He was born June 5, 1933, in Tuttle, to Adam and Elsie (Steinke) Leno, who are deceases. He married Loretta Heimbuck of Arena on Aug. 3, 1952. He is survived by his wife; five daughters, LaVanna Howard, Valerie Priestly, Janette Leno-Thomas, Janine Leno and Jolene Leno; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest and Shirley, and Wendell and Juanita; one sister, Emilie Hoard; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vanessa; and a brother, Manfred. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to Prospect Home Care Hospice, P.O. Box 6278, Woodland Park, Colo. 80866.

Katherine Leno
TUTTLE -- Katherine Leno, 91, formerly of Tuttle, died April 7, 2000, in a Steele care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle, with the Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Zion Langedahl Cemetery, Tuttle. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Steele. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Steele. Katherine was born Feb. 24, 1909, the daughter of Philip and Katherine (Schopp) Schweigert at Emery, S.D. In 1915, her family moved to Roundup, Mont. A year later, they moved to Plevena, Mont., where she spent her childhood and attended school. She and William Leno, Tuttle, were married on Nov. 19, 1928. They made their home on a farm southwest of that city. William died in 1982. She resided on the farm until she entered Golden Manor in the fall of 1997. Katherine enjoyed numerous activities along with her family functions. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, tatting, and other family activities. She especially enjoyed trips to Montana to visit her parents and other family members. She was a fine cook and spent many hours preparing for family reunions. Katherine was an active member of Zion Langedahl Lutheran Church for many years, prior to its merging with the English Lutheran Church in Tuttle. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Walter Morlock, Bismarck; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Lyle and Marlys, and Lester and Pat, all of Tuttle, Dennis, Moorhead, Minn., John and Barbara, Bottineau, and Ronald and Roberta, Missoula, Mont.; 21 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lydia Christman, Betty Christman and Caroline Herbst. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; one son, William Jr. "Billy," two infant sons, Philip and Gottlieb; and five brothers and two sisters.

Alma Luttrell
WATFORD CITY -- Alma Luttrell, 75, Watford City, died April 8, 2000, in the Watford City nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Watford City. Further arrangements are pending at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

George Schubert
WASHBURN -- George Schubert, 65, Washburn, died April 7, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital after a brief illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. He is survived by two sisters, Catherine Schubert, Washburn, and Elizabeth Schubert, Jamestown; and two brothers, Frank, New Haven, Conn., and Fred, Omaha, Neb.

John Vincent Smith
DICKINSON -- John Vincent Smith, 92, Dickinson, died April 7, 2000, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, with burial in Medora Cemetery. He is survived by one son, Ervin, Dickinson; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

William Waltz
MCCLUSKY -- William Waltz, 86, McClusky, died April 8, 2000, in the Harvey hospital. Arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Gilmond Arusell
FESSENDEN -- Gilmond Arusell, 79, Fessenden, died Dec. 19, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Fessenden. Further arrangements are pending at Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden.

Catherine Bazal
