Jay Wetzel
Jay Wetzel, 19, Bolivar, Mo., and formerly of Glen Ullin, died Jan. 23, 2000 in rural Kansas City, Mo. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday, at Glen Ullin High School Gymnasium, with the Rev. Steve Dunn officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date.
Closed casket visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. Friday, at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and for one hour prior to the service at the school.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Class of 1999 of the Glen Ullin High School and the 98-99 Bandit Football Team. Active casketbearers will be Jesse Braun, Jesse Kaelberer, Matthew Miller, Nick Roemmich, Daniel Peltz and Jonathan Schroeder. Organist will be Diane Peltz and special music will be Lisa, Sara and Alison Duppong and Lynette Clark.
Jay was born May 4, 1980 in Bismarck, the son of Clyde and Lois (Hofer) Wetzel. He was raised on the ranch east of Glen Ullin and attended Glen Ullin School and was an honor student in the 1999 graduating class. Jay loved life on the ranch and working with his dad. He enjoyed many special times of hunting, fishing, canoeing, horseback riding, and camping trips with his family members. Jay excelled in sports and was honored for his accomplishments. Jay accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour at a young age and was a member of the Capital Heights Baptist Church where he was also a Sunday School Teacher. He had planned to work with the church youth group this summer. Jay experienced many special times attending summer Bible camps and youth retreats. Jay chose to attend Southwest Baptist University at Bolivar, Mo. where he was a member of the football team. He was returning to college at the time of his death.
He is survived by his parents, Clyde and Lois Wetzel, New Salem; two sisters, Lisa, Graceville, Fla., Sara, at home; two grandmothers, Edna Wetzel, Glen Ullin, Martha Hofer, Sioux Falls, S.D.; his uncles and aunts, Dennis and Carol Wetzel, Red Cloud, Neb., Neal and Linda Wetzel, Glendale, Ariz., Harvey and Maxine Janzen, Munich, Marlin Hofer, Portland, Ore.; and four cousins, Angela and Scott Wetzel; Beth Ann and John Janzen; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Wilbert Wetzel and Johnny J. Hofer. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)

Katherine Wax
DICKINSON -- Katherine T. Wax, 78, Dickinson, died Jan. 25, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Friday, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.
She is survived by her children, Robert, Regent, Marie Wax, Dickinson, and Dennis, Regent; one brother, Joe H. Keck, Dickinson; five grandchildren and one great-grandson. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

Oscar Hanson
MINNEWAUKAN -- Oscar Hanson, 63, Minnewaukan, died Jan. 24, 2000 in the Devils Lake care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Minnewaukan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Thompson, Devils Lake, Sheri Hanson and Jill Schafer, both of Minnewaukan; three grandchildren; three sisters, Dallas Sturlaugson, Larimore, Dorene Schwan, Devils Lake, and Linda Stensby, Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Dale Hanson, Minneapolis, and Donnie Hanson, Devils Lake. Bryce Flegel
KULM -- Bryce Flegel, 77, Kulm, died Jan. 25, 2000 in the Wishek hospital. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
He is survived by four brothers and two sisters, Lyonel, Kulm, York, Willmar, Minn., Morland, Anniston, Ala., Seaton, Prineville, Ore., Zona Kalmbach, Bend, Ore., and Eloys Lermo, Bend, Ore. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm)

Frank Schumacher
LISBON -- Frank M. Schumacher, 77, Lisbon, and formerly of Napoleon, died Jan. 25, 2000 in a Lisbon nursing home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He is survived by four sisters, Barbara Schwartzenberger, Ypsilanti, Mich., Ann Robinson, Costa Mesa, Calif., Marian Rohrich, Bismarck, and Helen Weichel, Bismarck. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon)

Mary Dukart
DICKINSON -- Mary Dukart, 91, Dickinson, died Jan. 24, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST today, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New England. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, New England.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Reisenauer, Bowman; six sons, Henry, Beulah, George, Arvada, Colo., John A., Ludwig, Jerome and Sebastian, all of Dickinson; 36 grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Katie Fettig, Steele; and one brother, Phillip Geiger, Glendive, Mont. Vincent Fox Sr.
MANDAREE -- Vincent Fox Sr., 69, Mandaree, died Jan. 24, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Mandaree High School. Further arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Marguerite Owen
STERLING -- Marguerite L. "Peggy" Owen, 78, Sterling, died Jan. 25, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Sterling United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Cissel officiating. Burial will be in Menoken Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, both at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Peggy was born Jan. 24, 1922 at McKenzie, the daughter of Nels J. and Lois S. (Coffin) Struwing. She was raised and educated in McKenzie and Menoken, graduating from Menoken High School in 1942. She worked at Benson Optical Shop prior to her marriage to Leon Owen on April 11, 1945. She and her husband farmed at Wing and then at Menoken until 1957, when they moved to Sterling and began working for Standard Oil. In January 1975, they purchased the business and operated as Owen Oil and Gas until their retirement in September 1983.
Peggy was a member of the Sterling United Methodist Church, of which she was treasurer for many years; the United Methodist Women; Menoken Homemakers; Sterling School District treasurer; and a 4-H leader. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling and doing crafts.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Leon; one daughter, Sharon and her husband, David Lang; her mother, Lois Struwing, Bismarck Baptist Home; three granddaughters, Nicole, Boise, Idaho, Keri, Valley City, and Shelly and her husband, Chris Mills, Mandan; a niece, Penny House and her children, Katie and Thomas; two nephews, Jim Struwing, Utah and Mark Struwing, Colorado; and one brother-in-law, Grant Bergquist.
Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Floyd; her father, Nels; two sisters, Cleo Smythe and Carol Bergquist; and her brother, Gene Struwing.
The family prefers memorials to Sterling United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Dorothy Semmens
CARRINGTON -- Dorothy Semmens, 79, Carrington, died Jan. 26, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Harvey Soule
NAPOLEON -- Harvey Soule, 93, Napoleon, formerly of Moffit, died Jan. 26, 2000 in the Napoleon care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Hazelton Presbyterian Church. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Barbara Ternes
STRASBURG -- Barbara Rose Ternes, 59, Strasburg, died Jan. 25, 2000 at her residence after a battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Strasburg.
Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. today and Myers Funeral Home, Linton. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.
Barbara was born April 8, 1940 in Napoleon, the daughter of George and Frances (Schwartzenberger) Gross, Sr. She was raised on a farm south of Napoleon and graduated from the Napoleon High School in 1958. Barb worked at the Linton Hospital before her marriage to Edwin Ternes on Oct. 19, 1959 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton. After raising her family, Barbara enjoyed giving tours at the Lawrence Welk Homestead and working at the Strasburg Care Center. Barbara was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and St. Mary's Society. She also enjoyed prayer, painting and coloring, mowing grass, crocheting and milking cows, dancing polkas and giving help to whomever needed it.
Barbara will always be remembered for her love, hugs and kisses to family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Grateful to have shared her life are her four sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Joanne Ternes, Strasburg, Gary and Barbara Ternes, Strasburg, Steven and Tamara Ternes, Grand Forks, and Tony and Renee Ternes, Strasburg; seven daughters and five sons-in-law, Connie and Patrick Renz, Bismarck, Carla and Rob Reinhold, Bismarck, Bonnie and Mark Leier, Fargo, Nancy and Dan Nathan, Kindred, Barby and Aaron Koenig, Bismarck, Mary Ternes, Jamestown, and Julie Ternes, Bismarck; 20 grandchildren; her father and stepmother, George Sr. and Julia Gross, Napoleon; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Maryanne Gross, Driscoll, Monsignor Val Gross, Fargo, George Jr. and Elaine Gross, Napoleon, and Christine Gross, Napoleon; six sisters and five brothers-in-law, Mary and John Vetter, Bismarck, Frances and Clarence Lindeman, Linton, Veronica and Wilfred Masset, LaMoure, Helen and Don Hertz, Bsimarck, Lucille and Terry Scherr, Linton, and Donna Hoffman, Carthage, Texas.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother in 1970 and her brother, Clemens in 1999. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Loyde Peterson
Loyde G. Peterson, 79, Prescott, Ariz., died Jan. 18, 2000 in Prescott. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at American Lutheran Church, Prescott, with the Rev. Daniel Storvick officiating.
Loyde was born on Sept. 2, 1920 in Nome, to Martin and Fannie (Strand) Peterson. He married Ruth M. Reiten on Nov. 26, 1942 in Hastings. While living in North Dakota he was an active member in several community and American Lutheran Church activities. He was an honorary member of the Mayville State College Alumni Association, past president of the Rotary Club in Jamestown, and former president of the Public School Officers Association of North Dakota.
After his retirement in 1987 from the Mayville State College, the Peterson's moved to Arizona where he was president of the Cordes Lakes Community Association. Since 1967, Loyde had enjoyed raising and riding quarterhorses, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; his sons, L. Gregory and his wife, Sharon, Indianapolis, Ind., and W. Scott and his wife, Diana, Velva; his daughters, Sara Bondesen and husband, Jay, Madera, Calif., Linda Vrooman and husband, Nicholas, Helena, Mont., Mariann Duff and husband Darren, Phoenix, and Rita and husband Roy Pallatt, Republic of Singapore; his sisters, Frances Swensen, Mount Prospect, Ill., and Dorothy, Santa Rose, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Richard Hoth
SCRANTON -- Richard Hoth, 93, Scranton, died Jan. 25, 2000 in the Hettinger care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday, at Peace Lutheran Church, Scranton. Burial will be in Union Prairie Cemetery, south of Scranton.
He is survived by one son, Dale, Hamilton, Mont., two daughters, Lois Angle, Livingston, Texas, and June Eyer, Glendive, Mont.; one brother, Fred, Visalia, Calif.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)
