Patrick Mitzel
Patrick C. Mitzel, 71, Bismarck, died April 7, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, where a rosary and prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Patrick was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Strasburg, to Carl and Katie (Schafer) Mitzel. The family moved to Beulah in 1946, where Pat graduated from high school. From March 1951 to March 1953 he served in the First Armored Division of the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Hood, Texas.

Pat married Marjorie Nesper in Beulah Aug. 30, 1954, and moved to Bismarck. He graduated from Bismarck Junior College and was a dedicated employee with the N.D. Department of Transportation from 1950 to 1994.

Pat enjoyed woodworking and was a master craftsman. Many of his creations will be treasured forever by family members.

Pat enjoyed his family and grandchildren and traveled often to enjoy family events.

He is survived by his wife, Marge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Del Gallagher, Bismarck, and Karen and Jim Anderson, Bloomington, Minn.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Norma Mitzel, Panora, Iowa, Mark and Deb Mitzel, Baxter, Minn., and Todd and Elizabeth Mitzel, Grand Forks; two grandsons, Del and Brent Gallagher, Bismarck; seven granddaughters, Tanya and David Moore, Omaha, Neb., Tami and Josh Ocken, Lincoln, Neb., Katie and Amy Anderson, Bloomington, Minn., Holly and Leann Mitzel, Grand Forks, and Angie Langston, Panora, Iowa; one great-granddaughter, Cassidy Moore, Omaha, Neb.; and one sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Lloyd Bakken, Crosby.

He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Teresa (Akers) Mitzel; his parents; one brother; and two sisters.

Ray Peterson
HETTINGER -- Ray Peterson, 90, Hettinger, died April 9, 2001, in a Hettinger medical center. Arrangements are pending with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger.

Erwin Raeser
BEULAH -- Erwin Raeser, 57, Beulah, died April 6, 2001, at his home following a long illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah, with the Rev. Howard Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. MDT today at the funeral home.

Erwin was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Cottage Grove, Ore., to Erwin Sr. and Jewel (Golston) Roeser. He attended and graduated from Beulah High School in 1961. After graduating, he spent two and a half years in the Army, where he was stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany. He was once married to Darlene (Flemmer) Raeser. He was employed with Knife River Coal Co. for a number of years and retired due to his health.

Erwin enjoyed reading and collecting western items and loved spending time with his two grandsons.

He is survived by one son, Jason Raeser, Barberton, Ohio; one daughter, Pamela Raeser and her fiance Brian Foss and their two sons, Braiden and Dane Foss, all of Hazen; one brother, Darwin (Gus) Roeser, Beulah; and a very special friend, Jane Bitterman, Beulah.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Sakakawea Hospice, Hazen.

Violet Stenson
DEVILS LAKE -- Violet Stenson, 78, Devils Lake, died April 7, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. in Turtle Lake Cemetery, Turtle Lake.

She is survived by one daughter, Vicki Peterson, Fargo; one son, Kurt, Woodbury, Minn.; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Elsie Stenson, Devils Lake, and Emma Gessele, Turtle Lake. (Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake)

Rufina Zeller
BEULAH -- Rufina Zeller, 76, Beulah, died April 8, 2001, in a Beulah care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beulah.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. MDT Wednesday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Rufina was born June 1, 1924, in Mercer County, a daughter of Otto and Ida (Erdmann) Mettler. She was raised and educated north of Hazen and graduated from Hazen High School. On Dec. 14, 1942, she married Albert Zeller and they farmed north of Beulah until retiring in 1975. Albert died March 20, 2000.

Rufina was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. She truly enjoyed fishing until this became physically impossible for her.

She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, James, Stockton, Calif., Jerry, Mandan, and Craig and Robin, Beulah; seven grandchildren, Wade, Vance, Annette, Todd, John, Bryce and Zachary; one great-grandson, Kurt; four sisters, Agnes Wiedrich, Beulah, Irene Blahna, Kensal, LaVerne Dasey, Mishicot, Wis., and Veda Stellwagon, Oostburg, Wis.; and three brothers, Richard Mettler, International Falls, Minn., Gilbert Mettler, Springfield, Pa., and LeRoy Mettler, Clarkston, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; one son, William; and her parents.

Wilfred Fleischer
Wilfred Fleischer, 84, Mandan, died April 13, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Timothy A. Jenks officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services.

Wilfred was born Feb. 18, 1917, near Brainerd, Minn., the son of George and Clara (Dasher) Fleischer. When his mother died in 1926, he and his sister, Ethel, came to Hannover to live with his aunt and uncle, the Albert Dashers.

Educated in Hannover, he married Louise Bargmann there on June 8, 1941. They farmed in that area until 1958, when they moved to New Salem. In 1959 he began operating the Surge Milking Machine business. He remained in the milking machine business until 1974, when they moved to Mandan. He worked as a custodian and general maintenance handyman in Mandan until his retirement.

During his retirement years in Mandan, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's basketball games, music concerts and other activities. He also found enjoyment in the outdoors, hunting, fishing and visiting with the many friends he made while in business and during retirement.

Wilfred is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Louise; three sons and daughters-in-law, Leland and Linda, Mandan, Calvin and Jan, Bismarck, and Gary and Barbara, St. Louis.; and nine grandchildren, Suzi Huovinen, Nancy, Jonathan, Marc, Matthew, John, Greg, Angie and Julie Fleischer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Easter; his brothers, Herman and Lester; his sisters, Lorraine Black, Ethel Bauer and Irene Scheidt; and his stepbrother, Robert Fleischer.

Emil Humann
HAZELTON -- Emil Humann, 81, Bismarck, formerly of Hazelton, died April 15, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Servivces will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Rose Meier
HURDSFIELD -- Rose Meier, 70, Hurdsfield, died April 13, 2001, in her home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hurdsfield Community Center, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hurdsfield.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Rose was born June 10, 1930, in Hurdsfield, the daughter of Alfred J. and Marie (Miller) Peak. She grew up and attended school in Hurdsfield. She married Jake Meier on Oct. 14, 1946, in Fessenden. They farmed near Goodrich. In 1951 they moved to Hurdsfield, and in 1970, they moved to a farm southwest of Hurdsfield. Jake died on Nov. 21, 1987. Rose continued to live on the farm where she took an active part in the daily farming and ranching operations.

Rose was currently serving as the North West Township clerk in Kidder County. She was a member of American Legion in Hurdsfield. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by one son, Victor; one daughter, Evelyn Meier; one grandson, Travis Meier, all of Hurdsfield; and five brothers, Gerald, Richard and Gayle, all of Bismarck, Verle, Harvey, and Kenneth, Posen, Ill.

Jack Ehrmantraut
DICKINSON -- Jack Ehrmantraut, 99, Dickinson, died April 14, 2001, in a Dickinson health center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips officiating. Music will be provided by Angela Reiter. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MDT today at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson. A rosary and vigil service led by Deacon Ralph Stockert will be held at 7 p.m. MDT today at St. Benedict's Health Center, Dickinson. Jack Ehrmantraut was born Dec. 10, 1901. He farmed the land which his parents, Anton and Margaret (Sattler) Ehrmantraut farmed and which his grandparents, Adam and Eva Ehrmantraut, had homesteaded in 1892. His son Leo lives there today. Jack married Veronica Mischel in 1925. They celebrated their 75th anniversary May 26, 2000. He and Veronica worked for a time with Krepil's Bakery and farm. He drilled water wells for several years, then took over his family's farm in 1936, after the deaths of his parents. He farmed the land until retiring in 1965, then went fishing and hunting full time. He loved to play pinochle and visit with friends and relatives. Jack and Veronica moved into Dickinson in 1969 and lived in their home until 1995, when the moved to Evergreen Retirement Center, then to St. Benedict's Home in 1998. Jack was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the St. Anthony Club. He is survived by his wife, Veronica; three daughters, Alice (Bill) Rieckman, Kennewick, Wash., Helen (Bill) Law, Great Falls, Mont., and Joan (Leonard) Lardy, Yucaipa, Calif.; one son, Leo (Kay) Ehrmantraut, Dickinson; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline (Bill) Caugherty, Mansfield, Ohio. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward; his parents; four sisters; and two brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Home on the Range.

Ben Eissinger
WISHEK -- Ben Eissinger, 95, Wishek, died April 16, 2001, in a Wishek care center. Arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.

Bernard Glueckert
WILLISTON -- Bernard Glueckert, 56, Williston, died April 16, 2001, at his home of natural causes. Arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston.

Maymie Gullingsrud
HARVEY -- Maymie Gullingsrud, 98, Harvey, formerly of Thief River Falls, Minn., died April 16, 2001, in a Harvey care center. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Wilbur Harmsen
Wilbur D. Harmsen, 70, 108 Cherokee Ave., Bismarck, died April 13, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Mary Porter officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post No. 1326. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Wilbur was born Oct. 3, 1930, in Bismarck, to Rolf and Ruby (Grady) Harmsen. He was raised and educated in Bismarck. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1949 and from the University of North Dakota with a degree in hospital and business administration. Wilbur served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He then worked for the Social Security Administration from 1955 to 1965. In 1965 he moved to Baltimore, Md., and was vice president of the South Baltimore General Hospital, retiring in 1988 and moving back to Bismarck. He married Ruth Smith in Baltimore on Aug. 31, 1970. Wilbur was a member of the Moose and the American Legion. He enjoyed Nascar racing, sports in general and Civil War history. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Kenneth Weigle, York Springs, Pa.; three grandchildren, Kirsten, Allyson and Collin Weigle; one sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Kenneth Fischer, Marrietta, Calif.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Rolf and Jan Harmsen, Missoula, Mont. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to North Dakota Heart and Lung Association or the University of North Dakota.

Alida Haugan
FARGO -- Alida A. Haugan, 98, Fargo, died April 10, 2001, in a Fargo care center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Mavis Whiting Chapel, Bethany Homes, Fargo. Private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Mather, Philadelphia, Pa., and Jean Page, South Norwalk, Conn.; two grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. (Ivers-Landblom Funeral Home, Fargo)
