Ted Eichele
STEELE -- Ted Eichele, 75, Steele, died unexpectedly July 31, 2000, in Bozeman, Mont. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Driscoll, with the Rev. Jo Olson officiating. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Driscoll. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Steele, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Ted was born Oct. 14, 1924, the youngest son of Herman and Juliana (Grossman) Eichele. He grew to manhood on the family farm located northeast of Napoleon in Logan County, and received his education in rural Logan County schools. Following World War II, he and his brother, Herman, ranched 11 miles north of Napoleon on the Gillfellon ranch. On Nov. 10, 1947, Ted married Ruth Schmidt of Dawson. They lived northeast of Driscoll their first years of marriage, moving to a farm south of Dawson in 1950. In the fall of 1955, they moved back to Excelsior Township and purchased a farm from their brother-in-law, Walter Kroll. Together, Ted and Ruth raised cattle, crops and seven children. Ted took great delight in all that he did. He especially enjoyed his herd of cattle, and watching wheat grow. In 1982, he and his wife sold the farm but continued to live on the homeplace. In 1987 they moved to Steele. Ted never really "retired" from the farm. He enjoyed his daily drives out to view the crops and help out where needed. Ted also enjoyed finding an elusive belt buckle or unique keychain to add to his collection. He enjoyed visits from family and friends and was very proud of his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. His family was his pride and joy. Ted was a member of the Driscoll Men's Club. He also served as Excelsior Township treasurer, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and as a councilman of Grace Lutheran Church. Honored to have shared his life are his wife, Ruth; their seven children, Vivian and Dan Hall, Bowman, Dora and David Colton, Driscoll, Ruth and Larry Graf, Steele, Dean and Maureen Eichele, Bloomington, Minn., Curtis and Brenda Eichele, Driscoll, Duane and Doreen Eichele, Bismarck, and Keith and Sheila Eichele, Everett, Wash.; 23 grandchildren, Danette and her husband, Gene, Lisa and her husband, Robert, Dale and his wife, Shelley, Douglas, Dane, Ivan, Sara, Robert, James, Berkley, Lucas, Trevor, Ross and his wife, Katie, Karl, Reed, Adam, Emily, Derrick, Dalton, Daniel, Drew, Chandler and Monica; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Jonah; a special little friend, Tyler Mittleider; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Emilea and John Reuer, Steele, Freida and Albert Weist, and Ella Kroll, Lodi, Calif.; three stepsisters, Lydia Hust, Esther Flemmer and Martha Flemmer; and one stepbrother, Albert Weist. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; two sisters and two sisters in infancy.

Lorina Forkel
ROSCOE -- Lorina Forkel, 84, Roscoe, died July 31, 2000, in Hosmer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hosmer United Church of Christ, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Wilhelm Jr.; three daughters, Virginia Aman, Aberdeen, S.D., Sylvia Preszler, Hosmer, and Marcella Opp, Bismarck; one sister, Leona Yoder, Buffalo, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. Ronald F. Harsh
Ronald F. Harsh, 73, Mandan, died Aug. 1, 2000, in Detroit Lakes, Minn. A joint Masonic and Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 tonight at Mandan Masonic Center, 408 First St. N.W. All friends are welcome to attend. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Lane R. Johnson
WASHBURN -- Lane R. Johnson, 24, Washburn, died peacefully, Aug. 2, 2000, in his parents home at Washburn after a six-week battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. CST Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, with the Rev. Bradley Brauer officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. MST Saturday in Werner Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. Friday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Lane Roger Johnson was born Nov. 23, 1975, in Bismarck, to Howard and Elda (Kisse) Johnson. He grew up in Washburn and graduated from Washburn High School in 1994, where he was active in football, basketball and music. After graduation he fulfilled a life-long dream of going to Australia, where he played football in the Down-Under Bowl. He also played in the first North Dakota-Montana All Star Football Game, and in the North Dakota Shrine Bowl. He attended Bismarck State College and studied elementary education and criminal justice. While at BSC he played basketball for the Mystics and also was an assistant girls basketball coach. He had been employed by Bis-Man Security for three years, and most recently had been employed by Dakota Fence Co. He enjoyed hobbies of boating and water skiing. He loved music, nature and the wide open spaces, and also spending time with family and friends. His greatest love was spending time with his son, Maverek. He is survived by his parents, Howard and Elda Johnson, Washburn; one son, Maverek; one sister and brother-in-law, Heidi and Terry Strobel, Denhoff; his fiance, Lisa Auch, Bismarck; his grandmother, Ruth Johnson, Hazen; and many uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roger Johnson, and Daniel and Nettie Kisse.

Winfred Sal Jones
MCLAUGHLIN, S.D. -- Winfred Sal Jones, 24, McLaughlin, died July 31, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, Wakpala. Further arrangements are pending at Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge.

BELFIELD -- Margaret S. Nameniuk, 67, Belfield, died Aug. 1, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Belfield, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Belfield. She is survived by her husband, Matt Jr.; two sons, Hardy and Tim, both of Belfield; two daughters, Kathy Cash, Crowell, Texas, and Connie Nameniuk, Belfield; four sisters, Kay Armbrust and Gertie Evoniuk, both of Belfield, Rosie Cerkoney, Lead, S.D., and Betty Gregory, South Heart; two brothers, Sie Kanski, Fairfield, and Steven Kanski, Bloomington, Ill.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Christ Rath
Christ Rath Jr., 89, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, died Aug. 1, 2000, in the care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jim Cissell officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Christ was born April 3, 1911, in Phoenix Township northeast of Wing, on the farm homesteaded by his parents, Christ Sr. and Anna Marie (Wagner) Rath. He was raised and educated in Phoenix Township. Christ and his brother, Edward went into partnership and continued the family farm after their parents retired. On April 3, 1946, he married Gladys G. Cloud in Bismarck. They continued to farm the family homestead. They retired in February 1982 and moved to Bismarck. They purchased a home at 1123 Morningside St. and he resided there until entering Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in August of 1999. Mrs. Rath passed away on May 20, 1993. Christ enjoyed farming and especially raising Hereford cattle. He liked visiting, fishing, and after retirement, gardening, canning and cooking. Christ is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Melvin Ressler, and Sharon and Vern Hoffmann, all of Bismarck; one son, Larry, Minot; three granddaughters and their husbands, Denise and Don Faber, and Melanni and Ken Hoff, all of Bismarck, and Pattie and Randy Zacher, Strasburg; two step-grandchildren, Leslie and his wife, Patty Ressler, Fargo, and Dawn Ressler, Bismarck; six great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Nicholas Faber, Andrew and Kaitlyn Hoff, and Joshua and Amy Baggenstoss; two step-great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Katelyn Ressler; and two sisters, Elizabeth Zimmerman, New Leipzig, and Mary Weidmer, Glen Ullin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; his parents; three brothers, William, Edward and Art; and one sister, Amelia Oelke.

Frederick C. Rix
Frederick C. Rix Jr., 43, 201 First Ave. N.W., Mandan, died Aug. 1, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital of natural causes. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services. Frederick C. Rix Jr., the son of Frederick C. and Grace (Moran) Rix Sr., was born May 18, 1957, in Bismarck. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan Senior High School in 1976. Frederick was a kind-hearted person who was always there to help others in need. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family. Frederick is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Pam Rix, Billings, Mont., and Gerald and Juanita Rix, Hazen; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne and Harold Fetzer, Mandan, and Delaine and Michael Walsh, Sedro Wooley, Wash.; and 12 nieces and nephews. MARTIN -- Adeline Goetz, 96, Martin, died Feb. 9, 2000, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Anamoose, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Peter, Minot, Leo, Sun City, Ariz., and Dennis, Bogota, Columbia; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Beulah M. Helgerson
Beulah M. Helgerson, 83, New Hope, Minn., died Feb. 1, 2000, in a New Hope care center, where she had lived for six years. A resident of Bismarck from 1949 to 1962, Beulah is survived by her daughters, Eileen Howland and Patricia Tjaden; and her son, John Helgerson. Beulah had 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Beulah was employed by Leach and Kelsch, a Bismarck oil exploration firm, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture until 1962, when she moved to Lomita, Calif. She retired from the U.S. Department of Defense in 1971. A longtime, active member of Catholic Daughters and her church, Beulah was a community leader in Lomita, involved in improving living conditions and health care services for seniors. Among other accomplishments, she was instrumental in establishing senior housing in Lomita.

Pauline Hoffman
Pauline Hoffman, 76, 413 W. Meadow Lane, Mandan, died Feb. 11, 2000, at her home with her loving husband of 55 years at her side. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, with Deacon Dave Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be said at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Pauline Berger was born on Dec. 22, 1923, in Odense, the daughter of George and Margretha (Miller) Berger. She was raised in the Odense area and went to school in Solen. On June 8, 1943, she married Henry George Hoffman in Solen. They shared many happy times together and were always surrounded by family and friends. Pauline was always willing to help others. She loved to spoil her family with her special homemade German dishes. She always had plenty of leftovers and made sure everyone took a dishful home. She was a generous and kind woman who put her family first no matter what. Pauline was the center of her family. She especially loved it when everyone would come home for the holidays -- Christmas, Easter and even the Fourth of July. She loved company and always enjoyed gathering together. She never sat down when entertaining because she was too busy filling everyone's plates. Pauline enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, gardening and taking trips to the casino with her children. The one thing Pauline will be most remembered for is her love. She was a strong woman who took pride in her appearance and took care of herself. She walked many miles with her daughter and was well-known by everyone who saw her walking, both around town and at the mall. Pauline Hoffman worked hard her entire life. Over the years, she cooked at various restaurants including Jerry's Supper Club, where she made the best garlic toast and mints. She was always willing to share what she had. Together, her and Henry kept many families fully-stocked with fresh vegetables from their lush garden. Pauline will be deeply missed by all those who loved her and by anyone who ever experienced her selfless spirit. Survivors include her husband, Henry; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Lucy, Pasco, Wash., and Kenny and Judy, Bismarck; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susie Freidig, JoAnn Helbling, Kathy and Al Wald, and Wayne Helbling, all of Mandan; 10 grandchildren and their families, Terri Ann and Victoria Hoffman, Pasco, Perry, Fran and Anna Freidig, Mesa, Ariz., John and Kim Freidig, Little Falls, Minn., Martina, Steve and Todd Rennich, Mandan, Traci Hoffman, Walla Walla, Wash., Todd and Pam Helbling, Devils Lake, Chad Freidig and his special friend, Tammy Glass, Seattle, Sonni, Marc and Morgan Menge, Bismarck; John Hoffman, Omaha, Neb., and Pauline Rader, Mandan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Adam and Angie Berger, Mandan, and George and Frances Berger, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara and Adam Berger, Flasher, and Magdaline and Phillip Stoltz, Seattle; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Pauline was anxiously awaiting the birth of her fifth great-grandchild, baby boy Menge. She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Gary; two sons-in-law, Gary Rader and Darrell Freidig; six brothers, Nick, Mike, Tom, Marcus, Johnny and Jack; and two sisters, Frances and Katie. August Hogue
August Hogue Jr., 69, 312 Piccadilly Circle, Bismarck, died Feb. 11, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ben Dove officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with full military rites provided by VFW Post No. 1326. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. August "Junior" was born May 2, 1930, at Bismarck to August and Anna (Christensen) Hogue. He was raised and educated at McKenzie and Menoken and farmed in the Menoken area. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He married Patty Jo Roberson on Dec. 30, 1953, at Wibaux, Mont. They lived in Minot and later in Bismarck. She passed away in 1977. Junior worked for Northern Improvement, Consolidated Freight Ways and Triple L. Trucking, all of Bismarck. He retired in 1990. He was a life member of the VFW and its Military Rites Honor Guard, and the AMVETS. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sheri and Al Thomas, Karen and Nick Reis, and Patty-Kay Gensburger and special friend, Glenn, all of Bismarck; two sons, Kenneth "Buck" and Tim, both of Bismarck; two sisters, Beverly Jahner, Bismarck, and Linda Weldon, Beach Cove, Ind.; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Cecil and Mary, and Gene and Diane, all of Bismarck, and Emery and Phyllis, Libby, Mont.; six grandchildren, Christy, Jesse, Derek, Jason, Johnny and Terry; and one great-granddaughter, Sami-Jo. VELVA -- Eugene A. Jenson, 90, Velva, died Feb. 10, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, with burial in Hjerdal Cemetery, rural Voltaire. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; his daughters, Valerie Svendsen, Juneau, Alaska, Nina Thoreson, Voltaire, Nora Berg-stad, Hazen, Joyce Anderson and Gae Thomas, both of Velva, Gloria Sauvageau, Hazen, Julie Kutz, Carrington, Kay Knodel, Mandan, Amy Heisler, Velva, Lisa Marcotte, Sykeston, and Christine Obrigewitch, Medina; four sons, Gene, Velva, Neil, Astoria, Ore., Andy, Custer, S.D., and Joel, Astoria; 49 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sylvia McCulloch, Eau Claire, Wis. Mark G. Maier
Mark G. Maier, 26, senior airman, U.S. Air Force, Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., died Feb. 9, 2000, in Tucson, Ariz. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Tuesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elgin, with the Rev. Tom Halowell officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Elgin, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. MST Monday at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Casketbearers will be Charles Vetter, Brian Kubas, Damon Binek, Kelly Binek, Shane Biggs and Martin Ketterling. Mark Gregory Maier was born Sept. 19, 1973, at Williston to Marlo and Alvina (Arlt) Maier. He attended grade schools in Williston, Bismarck and Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1992. He attended Dickinson State University, North Dakota State University, Fargo, and Minot State University. On May 21, 1997, he entered the U.S. Air Force and took his basic training in Texas. He had been stationed at Davis Monthan Air Force Base with the 355th Equipment Maintenance Squad-ron and recently achieved the rank of senior airman. Mark enjoyed jogging, lifting weights and spending time with his friends. He is survived by his parents, Marlo and Alvina Maier, Dickinson; one brother and sister-in-law, Saul and Sheri Maier, Elgin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
