Wilfred C. Miller
NEW ENGLAND -- Wilfred C. Miller, 72, Woodland Hills, Calif., died Jan. 23, 2000, after a long illness. Services were held at St. Bernardine of Siena Catholic Church in Woodland Hills on Jan. 26, 2000. Wilfred was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Mott, the son of Henry H. and Rose C. Miller. He attended Timber Creek Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's High School, New England. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in Japan. Following his discharge from the service, he located in southern California, where he attended school, majoring in engineering at University of California, Berkeley and UCLA, and worked with missile development. He married Patricia M. Mullin, June 15, 1957, in Downey, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Pat; one daughter, Theresa; four sons, Michael, Joseph, Richard and Charles; and one granddaughter. He is also survived by one brother, Frank L., Mott; four sisters, Blanche Avery, Albany, Ore., Agnes Walker, Billings, Mont., Agatha Harbac, Miles City, Mont., and Norma Svihovec, Terry, Mont.; and two stepsisters, Margaret Shy, Agate, Colo., and Helen Swanson, Miles City. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norbert, Lawrence, Melvin and Maurice; and stepbrothers, Joseph, Donald and Patrick.

WILLISTON -- Norma Nordtug, 68, Williston, died Feb. 7, 2000, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Williston. M.C. "Clarence" Rude
WATFORD CITY -- M.C. "Clarence" Rude, died Feb. 7, 2000, in the Watford City hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Watford City, with burial in Timber Creek Cemetery, rural Alexander. Reinhard Wahl
GARRISON -- Reinhard Wahl, 80, Garrison, died Feb. 5, 2000, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, with burial in Garrison Cemetery. He is survived by seven sons, Willard, Fargo, Harlan, Alden and Terry, all of Miles City, Mont., Randy and Kent, both of Garrison, and Neal, Minot; three daughters, Bonnie Lundy, Dunseith, and Myrna Gathman and Jean Busch, both of Minot; two brothers, Sam, Everett, Wash., and Leo, Spokane, Wash.; three sisters, Viola Orrino, Spokane, Olinda Bergan, Minot, and Ella Sole, Missoula, Mont.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. BLANCHARD -- Eric James Reile, 12, Blanchard, died July 17, 2000 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Arthur United Methodist Church, with burial in Arthur Cemetery. He is survived by his father, Ronald Reile Jr., Blanchard; his mother, Coni Reile, Fargo; his sister, Ali Reile, Blanchard; two stepbrothers, David and Jonathan Malaterre and a stepsister, Katie Malaterre, all of Blanchard; his grandparents, Ronald Sr. and Delila Reile, McClusky, Ervin and Diane Jans, Mercer; and his great-grandparents, Duane and Clarise Nelson, Turtle Lake, and Bertha Jans, Mercer. WILLISTON -- Evelyn Sorenson, 77, Williston and Trenton, died July 18, 2000 in a Rochester, Minn., hospital. She is survived by her stepchildren, Melvin Poitra, Dunseith, Alex Poitra, Belcourt, David Poitra, Britton, S.D.k, Stella LaFountain, Belcourt and Teresa Brien, Belcourt; her sisters, Agnes Walton, Sidney, Mont., Roseann Laducer, Williston, Isabelle Martel, Williston, Sylvia Falcon, Trenton, and Delia Goselin, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen Strand
CENTER -- Helen Strand, 89, Waterville, N.Y., formerly of Stanton and Center, died July 18, 2000 in a Waterville nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton, with the Rev. Marvin Mutzenberger officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Center. Helen was born to Gust and Esther Swoboda on June 9, 1911 in the Blue Grass area. On Sept. 18, 1934, Helen married Allen T. Strand at New Salem, and they resided mostly in Center and Stanton. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton. Her husband, Allen, predeceased her in 1988. In 1991, she moved to Oneida, N.Y. to be near her only child and his wife, Allen R. and Jill Strand, Hamilton, N.Y. Surviving her besides her son, are two grandchildren, Loren and Jason Strand. Helen wished, in lieu of contributions, that each person count his or her blessings and act upon the needs of others. (Seibel Funeral Homes, Beulah/Hazen)

Joseph Wetzel, 68, Glendive, Mont., died July 20, 2000 in a Glendive hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday at Evangelical Congregational Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in Glen Ullin Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; three daughters, Charlene Frey, Glendive, Jolene Master, Billings, Mont., and Lila Spankle, Sidney, Mont.; one son, Barry, Glendive; two brothers, John Wetzel Jr., Glen Ullin, and Emil Wetzel, Bismarck; three sisters, Gertie Redman, Beulah, Wilda Owens, Bismarck, and Vendora Gappert, New Salem; and eight grandchildren. Mollie Clemens
JAMESTOWN -- Mollie Clemens, 77, Jamestown, died June 24, 2001, in a Jamestown care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Further arrangements are pending with Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Clair Cullen
Clair Cullen, 89, Mandan, formerly of Hensler, died June 23, 2001, in a Mandan care center. Cremation took place the following day. A memorial service and trail ride will take place at 2 p.m. CDT Wednesday at the former Cullen ranch, two miles west and a half-mile north of Hensler. Clair Cullen was born Dec. 25, 1911, in Leeds, the son of M.J. and Frances (Vogl) Cullen. His family moved to various areas throughout his childhood, including Canada, where his father owned and operated grain elevators. In the early 1930s, Clair's father purchased a ranch on the Missouri River bottoms west of Hensler, where he and his brother Ross helped with the farming and livestock operation. In 1940 the ranch became a Cullen Brothers partnership. Clair married Pearl Edwards on March 21, 1940, at Bismarck. They made their home on the ranch west of Hensler. Clair was a brand inspector for the North Dakota Stockmen's Association for 36 years. He judged rodeos and loved to practice calf-roping. In 1955 he earned the title of North Dakota Rodeo Association calf-roping champion. Clair was the recipient of a Distinguished Service plaque in 1981 for 10 summers of youth training at Horsemanship Camps held at the Western 4-H Camp near Washburn. At his home, near a collage of pictures, displays a favorite plaque of Clair's that reads, "God forbid I go to a heaven where there are no horses." He is survived by his wife, Pearl; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Cullen, Bismarck; one niece, Norma Lahren Wruck (Wayne), Hensler; one nephew, Charles Cullen (Annamae), Bismarck; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and three cousins, Jack, Robert and Mack Ingham, all of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Ross. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Cowboy Hall of Fame, 1110 College Dr. Suite 212, Bismarck, N.D. 58501, or to the charity of the donor's choice. (Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn)

Louise Fleischer
Louise Fleischer, 87, Mandan, died June 23, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Bradley Stoltenow officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Louise Wilhelmine Marie Bargmann was born on the family homestead, southwest of Hannover, on Feb. 12, 1914, the daughter of Henry Herman and Emma (Rabe) Bargmann. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hannover and married Wilfred Fleischer there on June 8, 1941. Wilfred and Louise lived and farmed near Hannover until 1958 when they moved to New Salem. In 1959 she began assisting Wilfred in the operation of the Surge Milking Machine business. Also, for a number of years, she worked in the New Salem Public School District cafeteria. In 1974 Wilfred and Louise moved to Mandan, where Louise enjoyed working in her garden and growing flowers. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren's basketball games, music concerts and other activities. She was an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for many years. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Leland and Linda, Mandan, Calvin and Jan, Bismarck, and Gary and Barb, Webster Groves, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Suzi Huovinen and her husband Michael, Nancy Fleischer and her husband Lucas Kary, and Jonathan, Marc, Matthew, John, Greg, Angie and Julie Fleischer; three brothers, Albert, William and Hilbert, all of Hannover; and two sisters, Lorna Bargmann, Bismarck, and Caroline Letzring, Alta, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred, who died April 13, 2001; her parents; and two sisters, Eleanora Reiner and Alma Bargmann.

George Hambrick, 75, Florence, Ore., formerly of Carrington, died June 24, 2001, in a Florence hospital. Arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
