Milton Nitschke
Milton W. Nitschke, 54, Jamestown, died of cancer Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Nitschke was born Oct. 6, 1945, at Jamestown, the son of Otto and Emma (Klundt) Nitschke. He attended school in Alfred, N.D., and Roseburg, Ore. The family moved back to Jamestown, where he graduated from Jamestown High School in 1963. He entered the U.S. Army March 14, 1966, at Jamestown, and served in Augsburg, Germany, for nine months. He was discharged Jan. 18, 1968, at Fort Dix, N.J., with the rank of SGT-E-5. He returned to Jamestown. He married Jolene Delzer Sept. 6, 1969, at Jamestown. They lived in Jamestown, where he worked for Dodgson Appliance and Furniture until 1977. They moved to Alexandria, Minn., where he managed the White Home Center Store. In 1978 they returned to Jamestown, where he again worked at Dodgson's. He later worked for Motorola. In 1995 he started Nitschke Communications. He sold the business to Heer Electronics and continued to work there. In February 2000 he began working for Glenmac, Jamestown. He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles, Hillcrest Men's Gold Club and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Mike (Darcey), Moorhead, Minn.; six sisters, Joyce Henne and Jeannine Nitschke, both Jamestown, Darlene (Norbert) Schlenker, Winston, Ore., Jermaine Murray, Roseburg, Carol (LeRoy) Joslin, Antlers, Okla., and Karen (Lee) Sears, Davenport, Iowa; four brothers, Kenneth (Marian) and Lawrence (Shirley), both Jamestown, Jerry (Connie), Wamego, Kan., and Emmett (VerDella), Jamestown; his father- and mother-in-law, Ernest and Pauline Delzer, Jamestown; two brothers-in-law, Clark Delzer, Jamestown, and Wade Delzer, West Fargo, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, First Baptist Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Bryce Tahran officiating. Arrangements by Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

Ernest Haas
Ernest E. Haas, 88, Jamestown, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.
Mr. Haas was born Aug. 31, 1911, north of Cleveland, N.D., the son of Adolph and Minnie (Schock) Haas. He attended Spring Valley Township rural school and worked on the family farm. In 1936 he attended Hanson Trade School, Fargo, graduating in 1937 as a mechanic. He married Martha Schroeder Jan. 11, 1937, at Jamestown. They lived in Fargo. They moved to Jamestown, where he worked for Midwest Motors. In March 1943 they moved to a farm south of Cleveland, where they farmed until retiring in 1980. In October 1998 they moved back to Jamestown. He was a member and served as an elder of the Cleveland Seventh-day Adventist church for many years. He enjoyed speaking to congregations in area churches.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Betty (Orville) Wetzel, Burnsville, Minn., and Bonnie (Brad) Meyer, Fargo; a daughter-in-law, Lona Mae Haas, Jamestown; three sisters, Edna Bietz, Escandido, Calif., Frieda Bietz, Jamestown, and Evelyn Enzminger, Walla Walla, Wash.; three brothers, Gideon (Avonelle), Longmont, Colo., Harry (Lois), Littleton, Colo., and Norman (Alice), Loveland, Colo.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ernest David; and two sisters, Ida Schroeder and Ruth Dimmig.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown, with Pastors David Stuart, Gideon Haas, Harry Haas and Norman Haas officiating. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland.

Esther Holm
Esther Holm, 79, Kensal, N.D., died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at MeritCare Medical Center, Fargo.
Esther Holm was born Jan. 20, 1921, at Kensal, the daughter of Lars and Annie (Stahl) Holm. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in rural Kensal. She lived on the family farm her entire life. She was a member of Kensal United Methodist Church for 50 years, serving as Sunday school teacher and superintendent for many years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women for 50 years, American Legion Auxiliary and Kensal Homemakers for 50 years. She enjoyed making ceramics and crafts, entering her work in several county fairs. She was chosen Women of the Year 2000 at the North Dakota Winter Show in Valley City, for entering her crafts for 27 years.
She is survived by two brothers, Ragnar and Andy, both Kensal; a sister, Edith Miller, Lacey, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Violet Holm, Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, Kensal United Methodist Church, Kensal, with Rev. Norman Winkelman officiating. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Kensal Cemetery, Kensal.

DeLaurence Nelson
DeLaurence O. "D.O." Nelson, 83, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Jamestown Hospital.
Mr. Nelson was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Bismarck, the son of Charles A. and Olive (Guenther) Nelson. He attended and graduated from Fargo Central High School. In 1938 he graduated from North Dakota Agricultural College, Fargo. He entered the U.S. Army April 17, 1941, in Fargo, and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was discharged Sept. 12, 1946, at Fort Douglas, Utah. He married Mary K. Murphy Feb. 14, 1942, at Fort Riley, Kan. In 1953 they moved to Jamestown, where he worked for Standard Oil Company, Goodyear and Bagan's Real Estate. He later owned and operated Midwest Music Store, Jamestown. He was a member of Jamestown Elks, Jamestown Eagles, American Legion, Jamestown Men's Bowling Association and the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, serving as head usher for almost 50 years and an elder and deacon for many years. He was president of Hillcrest Men's Association. He served as a ombudsman at Central Dakota Village Nursing Home, Jamestown.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Richard (Colleen), Jamestown, and James (Sue), Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister, Faye Ann Harries, Michigan; and four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Service: 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. David Thompson officiating. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, to United Presbyterian Church or the Jamestown Hospital Building Fund.

Anna Weiler
Anna M. Weiler, 73, Bismarck, died of leukemia Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at her home.
Anna Mae Ebertz was born Aug. 1, 1927, in St. Cloud, Minn., the daughter of Anton and Magdalena (Fischer) Ebertz. When she was 9 years old the family moved to Jamestown, where she attended St. James Academy. She attended and graduated from Minneapolis (Minn.) Business College, where she took typing and dictation. After college she returned to Jamestown, where she worked as a waitress in her father's restaurant, the Ebertz Cafe. She married Don Weiler Oct. 21, 1953. In 1954 they moved to Bismarck, where she was a homemaker and volunteer at the library at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Steve and Dave; a daughter-in-law, Heidi; a brother, Joseph; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Tony and Johnny; and a sister, Marie Clapp.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11, Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Arrangements by Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.
Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Memorials: St. Mary's Central High School, Bismarck.

Edwin Gussiaas
Edwin Clarence Gussiaas, 80, Carrington, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Gussiaas was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Nordmore Township, North Dakota, the son of Andrew and Thea (Edwardson) Gussiaas. He grew up and attended school in Nordmore Township. He was baptized and confirmed at Kvernes Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in France. He married Margaret Lillian Schroeder Nov. 6, 1947, at Kensal, N.D. They farmed near Carrington. She died Oct. 8, 1998. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the American Legion John Raymond O'Hara Post #25 and the VFW McCreary-Bonderud Post #3524, all Carrington. He enjoyed farming, gardening, raising flowers and his chickens.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie (Lowell) Medhus, Hardin, Mont.; two brothers, Henry (Phyllis), Carrington, and Luverne (Beatrice), New Rockford, N.D.; five sisters, Olga Landon, Thelma Landon, Norma Gussiaas and Judy (Irwin) Swanson, all Carrington, and Mabel (Daris) Bittner, Cathay, N.D.; three granddaughters; a grandson; and a special nephew, James Topp, Soldotna, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington, with the Rev. Gerhardt Asmus officiating. Arrangements by Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, with military honors by American Legion John Raymond O'Hara Post #25 and VFW McCreary-Bonderud Post #3524.

Emma Wolff
Emma Wolff, 94, Mahnomen, Minn., formerly Jamestown, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home, Mahnomen.
Emma Holzworth was born Nov. 12, 1905, in Woodworth, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Klooz) Holzworth. She grew up and attended country school in Woodworth until moving to Jamestown. She married Jacob Wolff Aug. 27, 1927, at Moorhead, Minn. They lived in Jamestown, where she worked at the Palace Cafe and later at Anne Carlsen School as a nurses aide and at the North Dakota State Hospital as a floor supervisor in the adolescent department. For a few years she provided senior home care in her home. He died in 1986. In 1989 she retired. She moved to Waubun, Minn., in 1990, and to Mahnomen in 1994. She was a member of Circles of Faith-United Church of Christ, Waubun, and First Church of the Nazarene, Jamestown. She spent time doing home ministry and enjoyed traveling, housekeeping, making homemade soap and fishing.
She is survived by three sons, Vernon, Jamestown, Kenneth, Vero Beach, Fla., and Dewane (Christel), Fairport, N.Y.; three daughters, Phyllis (Robert) Tilton, Waubun, Ellen (Thomas) Whiteley, Rochester, N.Y., and Marlys Buchholtz (Kenneth Pearson), Fargo; a brother, Edwin (Donna), Jamestown; a sister, Clara Rogel, Ritzville, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a son, Pirl.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, Circles of Faith-United Church of Christ, Waubun, and 3:30 p.m. Monday, First Church of the Nazarene, Jamestown, with the Revs. Terry Tilton, Frank Rodgers and Richard Reynolds officiating.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
