John Kolva
KILLDEER -- John Kolva, 86, Killdeer, died March 8, 2001, in a Killdeer care center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. MST today at Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Dumais, Warroad, Minn.; and one brother, George, Denver, Colo. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Audrey Rudy
STRASBURG -- Audrey M. Rudy, 87, Strasburg, died March 9, 2001, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Alfred Schafer
Alfred Schafer, 62, Mandan, died March 7, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday. There will be no visitation at the church.

Alfred was born July 7, 1938, in Bison, S.D., the son of Mike C. and Irene (Wingenbach) Schafer. The Schafers relocated to a farmstead near Flasher where Alfred was raised and educated.

Alfred served in the U.S. Army from March 1962 to March 1964. He then started working for Loehrke Brothers Construction. He married Peggy Lundstrom on Aug. 6, 1966. They had three children, Candice, Melissa and Kent. He continued to work for Loehrke's when he switched to his lifelong passion of truck driving. He drove semi for Belohlavek Trucking and Hartman Trucking, where he hauled trees for the interstate and dirt for the construction of Froehlich Dam near Selfridge. He switched professions to work at the Husky Truck Stop in Bismarck.

Alfred most enjoyed Christmases with his grandchildren. He used to tape the presents so tight so that they could only be ripped apart. He would have enjoyed fishing and hunting if he had been able to go. He still collected fishing rods and tackle.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Peggy; three children, Candice and Randy Stein, and their three children, Kendra, Tarshae and Jaedyn; Melissa and Tom Rebenitsch, and their children, Amanda, Joshua and Bailee; and Kent and his son, Dylan, and Dylan's mother, Kari, all of Mandan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Cal and Joann, Bismarck, Sam and Ruby, Hazen, and Norbert and Robyn, Bismarck; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Eleanor and Christ Schaff, Leona and Dick Beckerdite, all of Mandan, Phyllis and Bob Schuh, Arizona, Edna and Elmer Keller, Linton, and Cecelia Schafer, Indiana; and his mother-in-law, Katie Lundstrom, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Delores; three infant brothers; one infant sister; and his father-in-law, Ernest Lundstrom.

John Schneider
FARGO -- John Schneider, 55, Fargo, died March 9, 2001, at his home of a brain tumor. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Reineke Fine Arts Center, Fargo. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; and two sons, Jasper and Rocky, both of Minneapolis, Minn. (Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo)

James Spilman
James Spilman, 83, Bismarck, died March 9, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at noon Monday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

James Spilman was born Dec. 10, 1917, in New Rockford, the son of Franklin and Sadie (Byron) Spilman. He attended grades one through 11 at the Catholic Academy in New Rockford and graduated in 1932 from New Rockford Public High School. Jim worked for a year at the family farm in Sandstone, Minn., with his father and grandfather Pete Spilman.

Jim attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served for four years, finishing as a staff sergeant with the 98th Field Hospital in Japan. He returned to complete a B.S. degree in commerce in 1947.

He started his 33-year career with Job Service N.D. with assignments in the New Rockford and Devils Lake offices. In 1950, he was promoted to district manager in Riverdale for the construction of the Garrison Dam. There he met Juliann Zirbes. They were married Aug. 22, 1955, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. Jim and Juliann started their family while in Valley City. They moved to Bismarck in 1963. He retired as a labor market analyst from state office in 1980.

Jim remained in Bismarck after his retirement and worked to compile family genealogical and historical information. He was active in his parish, serving as an usher and on fundraising drives.

Jim enjoyed travel, tinkering in the garage and pursuing spiritual studies. He will be remembered as outgoing, friendly and good-humored. He embodied strong family values.

Jim was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus. He was also involved in the Elks, Eagles and American Legion.

He is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Spilman, Chicago, Ill.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Patrick and Amy, Bismarck, Timothy and Kelly, Mandan, and John, Elmhurst, Ill.; and seven grandchildren, Sarah and Katherine Spilman, both of Bismarck, and Alexander, Eileen, Eric, Dale and Juliann Spillman, all of Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juliann; his parents; and one infant brother, Joseph Jay.

The family prefers memorials to North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Ivan Tomchuk
BELFIELD -- Ivan S. Tomchuk, 39, Belfield, died March 8, 2001, in a Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church, Belfield. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his father William, Belfield; one sister, Mary Rose Tomchuk, Lakewood, Colo.; and four brothers, Bruce, Grants Pass, Ore., Bryan, Beulah, Terry, Dickinson, and Chris, Carson City, Nev. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

Jacob Weidner
BEULAH -- Jacob Weidner, 93, Beulah, died March 9, 2001, in a Hazen medical center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Katherine Addy
Katherine E. "Kay" Addy died Feb. 26, 2001, at her home in Jasper, Alberta. A memorial service was held March 1 in Jasper. Burial will be held in May in Shediac, New Brunswick.

Katherine had a deep love for all things beautiful in this life and enjoyed writing about them or painting them. She was a wonderful mom and a friend to all she met.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Malcolm Anderson, Jasper; her son and daughter-in-law, Boyd and Deborah, Mandan; three granddaughters, Kelly and Lindsay Anderson, Edmonton, Alberta, and Kimberley (George) Singletary, Long Beach, Calif.; her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Harold Braun, Rothesay, New Brunswick; her dear friend and companion, Jim Cox, Jasper, and his many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and good friends throughout Canada and the United States.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B. Fred Addy; her dear grandson, Michael Addy; her parents, Ross and Katherine Brown; her brother, Roy Brown; and her sister, Edith Smith.

Harold Becker
Harold Becker, 69, Bismarck, died March 10, 2001. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Milbert Boschee
ZEELAND -- Milbert D. Boschee, 76, Zeeland, died March 7, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, Zeeland. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; two sons, Floyd, Valley City, and Dale, Aberdeen, S.D.; three daughters, Rebecca Sheldon, Las Vegas, Nev., Sharon Boschee, Grand Forks, and Julie Boschee, Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and three brothers, Ervin, Sacramento, Calif., Thomas, Zeeland, and Eugene, Minneapolis, Minn. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

Beatrice Eckroth
Beatrice Eckroth, 99, Mandan, died March 10, 2001, in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home, where a rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Wedneday from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Beatrice was born July 24, 1901, in Mandan, the daughter of Hironimus and Margaret (Boehm) Kautzman. She was raised and educated in the Crown Butte area. Beatrice married George P. Eckroth Nov. 9, 1921, at St. Vincent.

Beatrice was hardworking and energetic. She was always willing to help people and never complained about anything. She was active in the Catholic Daughters and church-related activities. Church was an active part of her life. Beatrice loved to crochet and bake for family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, with family and friends.

She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Gene and Bette, Sheridan, Wyo., Henry "Buck" and Nedra, Mandan, and Polly Eckroth, Billings, Mont.; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Bill Boehm, Mandan; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Rose Kautzman, Mandan; and two sisters, Katherine Barndardt and Tillie Koch, both of Mandan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; one son, Peter; her parents; four brothers, Emil, George, Harry and Eugene Kautzman; and four sisters, Rose Roethlisberger, Eva Kopp, Minnie Gratz and Florentina Kautzman.

Marion Greenwood
Marion Greenwood, 78, Bismarck, died March 11, 2001, in a local hospital. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

June Isaacson
WILLISTON -- June Isaacson, 87, Williston, died March 9, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 p.m. Tuesday at Faith United Methodist Church, Williston. Burial will be in Grenora Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Dale, West Fargo, and Donald, Hawley, Minn.; three daughters, Ann Louise Halvorson, Prescott, Ariz., and Shirley and Pat Krenz, both of Bismarck; 21 grandchildren.; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two brothers, Bill and Eli Blomberg, both of Estevan, Saskatchewan. Vera Johnson
MOBRIDGE, S.D. -- Vera Johnson, 77, Mobridge, S.D., formerly of Pollock, S.D., died March 10, 2001, in a Mobridge care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pollock Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, Pollock.

She is survived by four sons, Ron and Mike Cullen, both of Burlington, and Carl and Lauren Ole Johnson, both of Pollock; one daughter, Ann Langeliers, Pollock; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ole Johnson Jr., Moscow, Idaho, and Bertil Johnson, Lewiston, Idaho.
