Edward Kohler
Edward Kohler, 75, Bismarck, went to be with the Lord March 15, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with the Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a wake service will be held at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Edward Herbert Kohler was the third child born to Herbert and Hedwig (Strube) Kohler Sept. 11, 1925, in Belfour. After his mother's death, his father married Helen Mock.

Ed worked the family farm until he was hired as a section foreman with the Soo Line Railroad at the age of 17. From 1942 to 1980 Ed worked various section lines and played pinochle, ending up in Bismarck in 1975. He retired in 1980, and instead of working a railroad bed, Ed worked a garden bed. On Aug. 20, 1947, Ed married Rose Schnellbach.

Ed was a member of Soo Line Employees Credit Union and Church of the Ascension.

He will be missed deeply by his wife, Rose; one daughter, Regina, Bismarck; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Cliff, Wasilla, Ala., Jeff and Lorraine, Bismarck, and Jim and Chris, Dresser, Wisc.; six grandchildren, Hannah and Chris Kohler, Alaska, Kay Kohler, Minnesota, Tanya and her husband Robert Steckler, and Nicole and Tyler Kohler, all of Bismarck; his stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth and Patrick Sessions, Wisconsin; one expected great-grandchild, Bismarck; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd, Foxholm, Richard and June, Valley City, and Francis, Palestine, Texas; and four sisters and one brother-in-law, JoAnn Paulson, West Fargo, Sharon and Jerry Berndt, Towner, and Evelyn Trowbridge and Minnie Garvey, both of Santa Rosa, Calif.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lisa; his parents; two brothers, Vern and Lyle; and one sister, Violet.

Arlene Ratts
JAMESTOWN -- Arlene Ratts, 79, Jamestown, died March 15, 2001, in a Jamestown care center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Lisko Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Monday.

Arlene Emily Hale was born Feb. 5, 1922, on the family farm at Bordulac, the daughter of Terry and Elmay (Young) Hale. She attended school in Bordulac and Carrington, graduating from Carrington High School in 1940. Arlene worked in the Carrington area as a bookkeeper and waitress.

In 1942 Arlene married James Ratts at Oklahoma City, Okla., during his military service. Following his discharge in 1945 they moved to Montpelier, where they farmed until moving to Jamestown in 1969. Arlene worked for the North Dakota State Hospital, retiring in 1985.

Arlene was a member of DAV Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed many hand crafts, especially oil painting. She was also an avid reader.

She is survived by her husband, James; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Terry, Bismarck, and Douglas, Jamestown; two grandchildren, Tania (Blake) Skinner, Hallock, Minn., and Ryan Ratts, USN, Earle, N.J.; one great-grandchild, Brody, New Jersey; one brother, Clifton Hale, Fargo; and two sisters, Ida Bryan, Hinkley, Calif., and Ruth Smith, Saginaw, Mich.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharron; her parents; and two brothers, Louis and Harold Hale.

Rose Schatz
DICKINSON -- Rose Schatz, 70, Dickinson, died March 15, 2001, at her home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. CST Wednesday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; three daughters, Carmel Steckler, Montana, Geralyn Chwialkowski, Minnesota, and Bonnie Thompson, New Mexico; seven grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Palm, Emma Haag, Margaret Mook, Minnie Schatz and Sister Veronica Haag; and two brothers, Joe and George Haag. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

James Schummer
James Schummer, 54, Bismarck, died March 15, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MST Monday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Gladstone. Further arrangements are pending with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Donna Blaufuss
WEST FARGO -- Donna M. Blaufuss, 23, West Fargo, died March 13, 2001, in West Fargo. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Devils Lake. Burial will be in Lakota Cemetery.

She is survived by her father, Bryan Thompson, Devils Lake; one sister, Elisa Ann Thompson, Devils Lake; two brothers, Chris Thompson, Devils Lake, and Jose Jerez Thompson, Miami, Fla.; and her grandfather, John Eback, Devils Lake. (Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake)

Alberta Dodd
BUFORD -- Alberta Dodd, 100, Buford, died March 17, 2001, in a Williston medical center. Arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Jeff Feist
POLLOCK, S.D. -- Jeff Feist, 36, Pollock, S.D., died March 16, 2001, of natural causes. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Edith Harms
KEENE -- Edith Harms, 78, Keene, died March 16, 2001, in a Minot medical center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Watford City. Burial will be in Redeemer Cemetery, rural Keene.

She is survived by her husband, Arne; one daughter, Cheryl Feist, Williston; two sons, Thomas McNamara, Bismarck, and William McNamara, Hazen; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Tank, Keene; and one sister, Lucille Thomas, Driscoll. WILLISTON -- Ida Helstad, 84, Williston, died March 16, 2001, in a Williston medical center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Robert Johnson
WILLISTON -- Robert Johnson, 61, Williston, formerly of Ray, died March 16, 2001, in a Williston medical center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Rainbow Valley Lutheran Church, rural Ray. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Russell Sabot
BALDWIN -- Russell Sabot, 77, Baldwin, died March 17, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

James Schummer
James Schummer, 54, Bismarck, died March 15, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Gladstone. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by one sister, Luella Dvorak, Manning. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

Orval Stadheim
REEDER -- Orval J. Stadheim, 74, Reeder, died March 16, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Reeder. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Reeder.

He is survived by his wife, Emily; two daughters, Sandra Stadheim, Bismarck, and Patty Hegland, Oberon; three sons, Orval Lynn, Reeder, and Barney and Larry, both of Hettinger; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard, Sacramento, Calif.; and two sisters, Verna Reagan, Bellevue, Wash., and Louella Homquist, Seattle, Wash. Ruth Staley, 96, Mandan, died March 17, 2001, in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Futher arrangements are pending.

GARRISON -- Elsie Stumvoll, 86, Garrison, died March 17, 2001, at her home. Arrangements are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Marion Walsh
Marion C. Walsh, 91, New Hope, Minn., formerly of Bismarck, died March 16, 2001, in New Hope. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Medina, Minn. Private burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Sr.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Martin Jr. and Verna; three grandsons and their wives, Michael and Julia Walsh, David and Lisa Walsh and Daniel and Elizabeth Walsh; four great-grandchildren, Nicole, Jonathan, Lauren and Natalie Walsh; and two sisters, Marcella Lacy and Minerva Reed.
