JAMESTOWN -- Frances Pearson, 94, Jamestown, died March 23, 2001, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, with burial in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

She is survived by two sons, William, Jamestown, and Robert, Carmel, Ind.; four half-sisters, Marjorie Cloke, Edgeley, Edith Robbins, Arizona, Mable Nicholson, Oregon, and Florence Gustofson, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Evelyn Sanderson
NEW ROCKFORD -- Evelyn Sanderson, 83, Fargo, died March 22, 2001, in Fargo. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford, with burial in Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry, Memphis, Tenn., and Larry, Minneapolis; one daughter, Karen Erickson, Fargo; two sisters, Myrtle Crawford, Newport, Ore., and Jean Beaton, Redmond, Wash.; and one brother, Don Rosenberg, Othello, Wash.

Bertha Sorenson
NEW ENGLAND -- Bertha Sorenson, 89, New England, died March 20, 2001, in the Hettinger care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, New England. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Ronald, New England; two daughters, Sharon Jensen, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Carol Frolich, Marysville, Wash.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Luella Klein, New England, and Clara Klein, Bismarck.

Sonja Sperle
NAPOLEON -- Sonja M. Sperle, 59, Napoleon, died March 22, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Further arrangements are pending at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Alvin Vossler
WISHEK -- Alvin E. Vossler, 76, Wishek, died March 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Marion; four brothers, Oscar and Wilbert, both of Wishek, Wesley, McLaughlin, S.D., and Rubin, Jamestown; and two sisters, Lorraine Lang, Ashley, and Loretta Vossler, Minneapolis. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

Erma Westlind
CANDO -- Erma Westlind, 86, Cando, died March 23, 2001, in the Cando hospital. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Bonnie Zempel
Bonnie Zempel, 58, Mandan, died March 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Charles Axness officiating. Committal services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Sims Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a service of remembrance will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Bonnie Gustafson was born Jan. 15, 1943, at Richardton, the daughter of Elmer and Laura (Fuchs) Gustafson. Raised in Marshall and Almont, she married Ray "Buck" Zempel on Nov. 18, 1960, at Almont.

Bonnie was above all a most gracious and helpful giver, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt and friend. In many ways she was a second mother to her daughter-in-law, and most particularly, to the grandchildren she held so dear. A fun-loving person, she enjoyed good times immensely and made the very best of the bad. Perhaps this, along with her sparkling personality was why children and adults were drawn to her as though she were a magnet. Usually up for most any new adventure, she was always ready to be the family planner and organizer. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Buck; one son, Marty, and his wife, Faye; their two children, Desaree and Cody, all of Mandan; her parents, Elmer and Laura Gustafson, Dickinson; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie and Jack Walker, Bismarck, Patty and Bud Olson, Dickinson, Sharon and DuWayne Anner, Colorado Springs, Colo., Judy and Idar Handegard, Almont, Nancy and Dave Dvorak, Fargo, and Candy and Stuart Olson, Redwood City, Calif.; one brother, Roger Gustafson, Dickinson; her foster granddaughter, Marisa Silva; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Her brothers, Donald and Bruce Gustafson; her sister, Ginger Gustafson Peterson; and her sister-in-law, Suzanne Morey Gustafson, preceded her in death.

Bonnie's family prefer memorials to Make a Wish Foundation or American Cancer Society.

Richard Bushee
Richard B. Bushee, 76, Bismarck, died March 25, 2001, in a Bismarck care center after a two-year bout with Alzheimer's. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to time of services Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Richard was born April 19, 1924, in Grand Forks, the son of Paul and Leonida Bushee. He and Mildred Belt were married Aug. 19, 1943, in East Grand Forks, Minn. He farmed for his father until 1945, then moved to Mallory and farmed there until 1966. He then moved to Mandan and operated the MF Motel and the Gaiety Lounge until 1977 when he retired and moved to Bismarck.

After retiring Richard enjoyed traveling and gardening. He devoted his time in supporting and helping with A.A. and recovering alcoholics.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mildred; his daughters, Carole Luce and her husband Larry and Lissa Willis and her husband Darrell, all of Fort Worth, Texas, Rosemary McIntire and her husband Ronnie, Bismarck, and Michelle Anderson and her husband David, Rockford, Minn.; his sons, Richard M. Bushee and his wife Kathy, Mandan, and Jay Bushee, Bismarck; 12 grandchildren, Tim Young, Thorton, Colo., Tyler, Travis and Andy Young and Darrell Willis, all of Fort Worth, Texas, Rochelle McIntire, Chicago, Ill., Brian and Dawn Bushee, Mandan, and Jay and Michael Bushee and Chris and Matt Lang, all of Bismarck; seven great-grandchildren, Jaden, Braden, Brianna, Lucas, Erica, Darrell and Alex; five sisters, Dolores, Veronica, Geraldine, Marilyn and Dorothy; one brother, Leslie; and his special friend, Wayne Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers.

Phyllis Connolly
Phyllis Connolly, 72, Bismarck, died March 22, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital after an extended illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Art Scanson officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Killdeer, at 1:30 p.m. MST.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Phyllis Fern Keller was born Feb. 11, 1929, at Beulah, the daughter of Willie and Clara (Heihn) Keller. She married her lifelong soul mate, James L. Connolly on Feb. 14, 1953, in Bismarck. They made their homes in Golden Valley and Dunn Center before moving to Bismarck in the mid-1980s. Mr. Connolly died on Aug. 5, 1989.

Mrs. Connolly was active in local, state and national Republican politics, serving in many offices, including president of the North Dakota Federation of Republican Women from 1989-1990 and most recently as chaplain of the Burleigh County Republican Women. She served on the state presidential campaign committees for Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan and George Bush, as well as being actively involved in the campaigns of several North Dakota senatorial, congressional and gubernatorial candidates.

Mrs. Connolly was a well-known figure at the State Capitol where she worked as a state legislative employee in many capacities for 11 sessions from 1971 through 1997. From 1959-1960, she led the North Dakota Cowbelles and later, in 1972, served as president of the American National Cowbelles as well. She was also active in the American Red Cross, serving in several state and regional positions, and in the American Cancer Society. She recently was appointed as a trustee of the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame and as a member of the Milk Marketing Board of North Dakota.

Mrs. Connolly also belonged to the Bismarck Elks Club.

Her deep love and devotion to her family and friends was clearly evident to all who knew here, especially to her sisters and brothers, children and grandchildren. She will forever be deeply missed.

She is survived by one son, James Michael Connolly and his wife, Janet, Golden Valley; one daughter, Sheila Mainous and her husband, Greg, Brandon, Fla.; four grandchildren, James Connolly, Dunn Center, Hugh Connolly, Bozeman, Mont., Jessica Eckroth and her husband, Bill, Mandan, and Cortney Menendez and her husband, George, Key West, Fla.; one great-granddaughter, Katelyn Elizabeth Menendez; nine sisters and four brothers-in-law, Lorraine Gallagher, Jamestown, Lucille and Phillip Harju, Spring Church, Penn., Arlane Kennison, Jamestown, Donna Carufel, Bismarck, Marilyn and Dan Schuette, Fargo, Bette and Richard Fockler, Bismarck, Carol Mehloff, Charlotte, N.C., Ramona and Don Meidinger, Fargo, and Judi Wetsch, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Hope Keller, Bismarck; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Doris Tidball, Bismarck.

Peter Deichert Sr.
FLASHER -- Peter Deichert Sr., 83, Flasher, died March 25, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MST Wednesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Flasher. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. MST in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military rites by Flasher American Legion Schafer Boye Lange Post 69.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and from 4 to 9 p.m. MST today at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Flasher, where a parish vigil and Knights of Columbus rosary will be held at 7 p.m. MST. Visitation will continue from 8 to 9 a.m. MST Wednesday at the church.

Peter Deichert Sr., the son of Martin and Emma (Kuntz) Deichert, was born near Raleigh Oct. 30, 1917. He was raised and educated in the Raleigh area. In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army, serving until 1945 when he received his honorable discharge. He fought in WWII in the European theatre.

Peter returned home and married Mary Bonogofsky June 26, 1944, in Raleigh. They were blessed with seven children. Upon his return, he bought Pete's Standard Service in 1946. In 1948 he acquired the Chevrolet franchise and it became Deichert Chevrolet Company. Through the years he acquired a number of machinery franchises also. In 1964 he expanded to Mandan and started Twin City Implement.

Peter spent his free time fishing with his friends and grandchildren.

Peter was involved in many organizations over the years. He was a regent of the University of Mary for over 25 years. He was a member of Flasher American Legion and Flasher Rural Fire Department for over 50 years, the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years as well as being a fourth degree member, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church for over 50 years, where he served as a eucharistic minister. He was also a member of Fallon and St. Anthony Verein and was an RSVP volunteer.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; four sons and daughters-in-law, Pete Jr. and Jeanie and Donald "Rocky" and Ronda, all of Mandan, and Dennis and Carol and Robert and Linda, all of Bismarck; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dorothy and Jim Krile, Grand Rapids, Minn., and Linda and John Burchill and Mary Deichert, all of Pierre, S.D.; 12 grandchildren, Russ, Katie, Becca, Dustin, Sarah, Crystal, Meghan, Kasy, Jessica, Ali, Adam and John; one great-grandson, Cole; and four brothers, Ben, Fargo, and John, Joe and Harry, all of Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Max and Martin; and one sister, Margaret Hartman.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or Flasher Knights of Columbus.

Thomas Devlin
Thomas J. Devlin, 58, Bismarck, died March 24, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

There will be no visitation as cremation as taken place. A rosary by Knights of Columbus No. 9589 will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Thomas was born Feb. 15, 1943, in Fargo, the son of Willis J. and Gertrude (Smith) Devlin. He was raised in Bismarck and Drayton. He graduated from Bismarck High School, Bismarck Junior College and the University of Mary.

Thomas was active in the Church of Corpus Christi, Knights of Columbus, Charismatic Prayer Group and Contemporary Choir.

He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Sally, Orlando, Fla.; and many friends at Corpus Christi.

He was preceded in death by his parents. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
