Virginia Ferrell
Virginia Ferrell, 86, Carrington, N.D., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington.
Virginia Mace was born Nov. 21, 1913, at Hamilton, Mont., the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ellen (Popham) Mace. She grew up and attended school in the Hamilton and Victor, Mont. areas and graduated from Victor High School. She married Leslie G. Ferrell Jan. 19, 1932, at Missoula, Mont. She worked as a welder during World War II in the Kaiser Shipyards, Vancouver, Wash., on the USS Casablanca Aircraft Carrier. She was personnel manager of the F.W. Woolworth Store, Missoula, for several years. She worked as an elevator operator in the federal building for 18 years. He died Feb. 17, 1974. In 1980 she moved to Carrington. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church, both Missoula, and Faith Baptist Church, Carrington. She taught Sunday school for 40 years. In May 1999 she entered Golden Acres Manor, Carrington.
She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Richard (Joyce), Carrington, and the Rev. Edward (Lenora), Wilson, Kan.; a sister, Mildred Ciarloni, Missoula; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers, Albert, Thomas, Frank, James and Jerry; and a sister, Vera Price.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, Faith Baptist Church, Carrington, with the Revs. Richard Ferrell and Edward Ferrell officiating. Arrangements by Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: 1Missoula City Cemetery, Missoula.

Ralph Noltimier
Ralph Richard Noltimier, 73, Charles City, Iowa, died Sept. 27, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Noltimier was born Nov. 30, 1926, at Oriska, N.D., the son of Eric and Elsie (Schultze) Noltimier. He graduated from Valley City (N.D.) High School and received a bachelor of science degree from North Dakota Agricultural College, now North Dakota State University, Fargo. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Doreen Nohrenberg Aug. 13, 1950, at Valley City. He worked in agricultural and advertising sales. They also operated a retail store, The Top Half, in Prairie du Chein, Wis. They lived in Charles City for the past 30 years. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City, and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Carla (Tony) Stoffel, Agoura, Calif., and Vanessa (Tim) Hallihan, San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Harriett Ottinger, Jamestown; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Services: Held Sept. 30, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Arrangements by Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City.
Burial: Sunnyside Memory Gardens, south of Charles City.
Memorials: Hospice of North Iowa, Charles City.

Glenn Brenneise
Glenn Grant Brenneise, 76, Ellendale, N.D., formerly Aberdeen, S.D., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Brenneise was born Aug. 30, 1926, in Greenway, S.D., the son of Daniel and Lydia (Isaak) Brenneise. He received his elementary education at Spring Creek, S.D., graduating from Plainview Academy in 1944. He married Elsie Dufloth Sept. 1, 1946. He spent much of his early life farming in McPherson County, South Dakota. In 1956 he graduated from Reisch Auctioneers' School and became an auctioneer. He also sold real estate and insurance. He married Joyce Anne Reinke April 8, 1999, in Scottsdale, Ariz. While in Scottsdale he conducted his last auction in April 1999 to benefit Thunderbird Academy and worked on his final Maranatha Project. He enjoyed raising and showing horses. He was active in his religious faith, including making many trips overseas to assist church-building projects in Russia, the Ukraine, and Peru. He was a skilled fund raiser.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Darrell Bruce, Lincoln, Neb., and Terry Lee, Vermillion, S.D.; a brother, Earl, Lincoln; two sisters, Wilma Bollinger and Shirley Goetz, both Lincoln; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepsons, Kern Schwab, Jerry Schwab and Barry Schwab, all Colorado; and a stepdaughter, Debra Kaiser, Oregon; nine stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Memorial services: 3 p.m. Oct. 4, Seventh-day Adventist Church, Aberdeen, S.D., with the Revs. Dennis Miller and Joe Story officiating.
Burial: Seventh-day Adventist Country Church Cemetery, rural Kulm, N.D.

John Ehmke
John C. "Jack" Ehmke, 76, Jamestown, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at the Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.
Mr. Ehmke was born July 30, 1924, at Warwick, N.D., the son of Charles and Marie (Birkeland) Ehmke. He grew up and attended school in Warwick, and graduated from New Rockford (N.D.) High School. He entered the U.S. Navy May 28, 1943, at Devils Lake, N.D., and served as a radioman third class on USS Saginaw. He was discharged March 10, 1946, at Minneapolis, Minn. He married Raxine Bina July 20, 1947, at Devils Lake. They lived in Sioux City, Iowa, and Boulder, Colo., before moving to Jamestown in 1977. He was a real estate broker for several agencies and later manager for Century 21 Real Estate, retiring in 1992. He was a board member of Community Credit Union; and a member of Jamestown County Club, Jamestown Elks and V.F.W. He was an avid golfer.
He is survived by a son, Charles (Caroline), Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Pamela Ehmke, Jamestown; a sister, Eloise Konzak, Devils Lake; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a sister.
Memorial Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Dick Boyd officiating.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

Hazel Summers
Hazel E. Summers, 74, Jamestown, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.
Hazel Elvira Velde was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Cyrus, Minn., the daughter of Oscar and Esther (Moen) Velde. The family moved to Pine River, Minn., and later to Alexandria, Minn., where she graduated from Alexandria High School. She worked as a dental assistant in Fergus Falls, Minn., and at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. She married William Summers Nov. 14, 1953, in Fergus Falls. They lived in Fargo. They moved to Hopkins, Minn. in 1955; Wheaton, Minn. in 1968; Bottineau, N.D. in 1985; and later to Rolla, N.D. In 1994 they lived in Jamestown. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Jamestown. She enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her husband, six children, Kent (Jayne) Olson, Modesto, Calif., Scott (Rhonda) Summers, Jamestown, Susan (Keith) Janke, Wheaton, Shannon (Mitch) Olson, Mandan, N.D., Shari Summers, Fargo, and Steven (Jeri Kylmanen) Summers, Fargo; a brother, George, Starbuck, Minn.; three sisters, Helen Pomplun, Rosyln, Ga., Edith (Paul) Samuelson, Hayward, Minn. and Fran (Ray) Erickson, Casselton, N.D.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and five sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Dick Boyd officiating. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

Floyd Thornton
Floyd Thornton, 69, Cleveland, N.D., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Thornton was born Nov. 24, 1930, on the family farm home in Stutsman County, the son of Clarence and Gladys (Phillips) Thornton. He grew up in Stutsman County and received his elementary education in a local rural school. He married Betty Schweitzer Oct. 24, 1952. He was inducted into the U.S. Army May 7, 1953, and served in the Korean conflict. He was discharged April 19, 1955, with the rank of corporal. He then returned home. They farmed on the family farm home until 1959, when they operated the Cleveland Garage and Cafe. In 1964 they returned to farming. In 1968 they bought a farm six miles south of Cleveland. She died in 1996. He continued to reside on the farm until 1997, when he moved into Cleveland. He drove the school bus for 20 years. He was a member of Elks, Eagles, American Legion, Gackle Co-op and Cleveland Farmers Elevator Association.
He is survived by two sons, Jay, Jamestown, and Jon, Cleveland; and a sister, Arlene (Rueben) Schlaht, Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Burial: At a later date. Arrangements by Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.
Memorials: V.A. Hospital, Fargo.

George Walton
George Edward Walton, 85, Carrington, N.D., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, N.D.
Mr. Walton was born March 6, 1915, on the family farm in Wells County, near Sykeston, N.D., the son of George L. and Minnie Gertrude (Hall) Walton. He grew up and attended school near Sykeston, until grade eight. He moved to Carrington, and graduated from Carrington High School in 1933. He worked for Bell Telephone Company as a part-time janitor for 42 years. He also worked in the Foster County auditor office as a clerk, deputy and auditor for over 40 years. In 1994 he entered the Carrington Long Term Care Nursing Home. On Oct. 3, 2000 he moved to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.
He is survived by a sister, Mildred Weir, Denver, Colo.
Services: None planned. Arrangements by Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery, Carrington.

Arvalene Christ
Arvalene T. Christ, 62, Wimbledon, N.D., died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.
Arvalene T. Brockemeier was born July 28, 1938, in West Point, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Ella (Heller) Brockemeier. She attended school at Zion Lutheran and Wisner High School. Upon graduating she worked at Glockner-Pemrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo. She married Richard Christ April 12, 1959. They moved to the family farm near Wimbledon. She was active in General Federation of Women's Club, where she was a charter member in Wimbledon, and state president from 1995-98. She was a member of the Valley City Eagles Auxiliary, where she was president from 1987-88, and Daisy Homemakers. She was a 4-H leader and a Sunday school teacher for 19 years.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Wayne (Renee), Scott (Jacki) and Brent, all Wimbledon; two daughters, Lori (Dave) Houge, Jamestown, and Dina Christ (fiance Matthew Dunlop), Rolla, N.D.; three sisters, Sylvia Iden, West Point, Ila Jean (Dale) Burns, Hammond, Ind., and Agnella (Ed) Loewe, Fremont, Neb.; a brother, Aaron (Marlene), West Point; seven grandsons; and a granddaughter.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Oct. 7, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Steve C. Johnson officiating. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
