Marie Ellison
Marie R. Ellison, 86, Mandan, died March 25, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Lena Hager
HARVEY -- Lena P. Hager, 94, Harvey, died March 24, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Lena was born Dec. 7, 1906, in the family farm home south of Balta. She was the daughter of Joseph P. and Caroline (Lesmeister) Grad. She grew up and attended school in that same area. After her schooling she stayed at home to help on the farm. She was later employed by other farm families and helped with their home and farm chores. She later helped as one of the cooks in a threshing cook car.

Lena married Peter G. Hager Oct. 29, 1928, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin. Together they started their homestead southeast of Orrin in Pierce County. They lived and farmed there until 1955 when they moved to a farm three miles north of Harvey. They retired from farming in 1967 and moved into Harvey. Her husband died Feb. 19, 1984. Lena sold her home in 1987 and moved into the Albrecht Apartments.

Lena enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, quilting, sewing, flowers and gardening. She had a great love for entertaining her family, relatives and friends in her home. She will be missed by all.

Lena was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, St. Cecilia Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Eagles Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Harvey. She was a former member of Hillside Township Homemakers and a lifetime member of Christian Mothers, both of Orrin.

She is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Daniel and Margaret, Rugby, Jerry, Bismarck, and Ronald and Wendelin and Delores, all of Harvey; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Philip Grad, Martin, Louie Grad, Harvey, and Walter Grad, Burlington; and three sisters, Rose Axtmann and Theresa Schwan, both of Harvey, and Betty Rudnick, Anamoose.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one granddaughter, Karen Hager; her parents; three brothers, Edward, Leo and Nick; and one daughter-in-law, Darnell Hager.

Charles Holkup
Charles J. Holkup, 84, Bismarck, died March 25, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Clarence Krein
WISHEK -- Clarence E. Krein, 77, Wishek, died March 25, 2001, in a Wishek care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ, Wishek, with the Revs. Tammy and Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery.

Clarence, a lifelong resident and farmer in Wishek, married Erma I. Sayler in 1947 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, rural Zeeland.

He is survived by his wife, Erma; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Rick and Kathy (Keck) Krein, Wishek, John Krein, Fargo, and Steve and Cindy (Skibinski) Krein, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Michael and his wife Cari (Lobsinger) Krein, Grand Forks, Jeffery and his wife Kelsie (Steiger) Krein and Rachel and Danny Krein, all of Fargo; two great-grandchildren, Maddison and Ethan Krein, Grand Forks; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Germain, Coon Rapids, Minn.; and four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Estella and Paul Rudolph, Wishek, Darlene Huber, Ashley, Violett and Alden Ruff, Bismarck, and LuEtta and Duane Brink, Rapid City, S.D. Cecil Lundeby
Cecil H. Lundeby, 87, East Grand Forks, Minn., died March 24, 2001, in a Grand Forks hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; four sons, Bruce and Mark, both of Grand Forks, Dwight, Minneapolis, Minn., and Luther, Modesto, Calif.; four daughters, Sylvia Schoor, Los Angeles, Calif., Virginia Smallwood and Kirsten Polock, both of Modesto, Calif., and Cynthia Johnson, Groton, Conn.; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepsons, Ronald Krom, Colorado Springs, Colo., Gary Krom, Thompson, Loren Krom, East Grand Forks, and Douglas Krom, Golden, Colo.; three stepdaughters, Delores Maves, Union Lake, Minn., Kathleen Phelps, Naples, Fla., and Linda Willenburg, Fulton, Mo.; 12 step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; four brothers, Kenneth, Mayville, and Arnold, Curtis and Marvin, all of Osnabrock; and four sisters, Evelyn Rude, Langdon, and Adelene Kepler, Vivian Johnson and Eileen Fahnlander, all of Bismarck. Donald Newman
FESSENDEN -- Donald Morris Newman, 73, Fessenden, died March 24, 2001, in the presence of his family in a Bismarck hospital following a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Concordia Lutheran Church, rural Fessenden.

Donald was born March 25, 1927, the son of Emil and Clara Newman. He was raised on the family farm in the community of Hamberg. He attended a country grade school and later graduated from Fessenden High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Sept. 27, 1946, and completed his tour of duty in Italy. He then attended NDSU in Fargo.

On July 24, 1955, he married Lenora Fossen of Maddock at Concordia Lutheran Church. He lived on the family farm northeast of Fessenden until his passing. He enjoyed many years of farming and raising cattle, and in 1994 was joined by his son, Jeffery.

Donald was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles and a Wells County supervisor. He enjoyed hunting, sports and spending time with his family and friends. He had a special place in his heart for his three grandchildren, Allyson, Josh and Jena.

Grateful to have shared his life with him are his wife of 45 years, Lenora; his children, Danny, at home, Laurie and her husband Bryan James, Lincoln, Julie, Bismarck, Jeffery, Fessenden, and Jason and his wife Kimberly, Mandan; and his brothers and sisters, William and Robert, both of Fessenden, Ardis, Sun City, Ariz., Dorothy, Savannah, Ga., and Delores, Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family requests memorials to Foundation of Amyloidosis Research, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. (Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden)

John Parisien
DUNSEITH -- John D. Parisien, 54, Dunseith, formerly of Jamestown, died March 25, 2001, in a Rugby medical center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, rural Belcourt. Further arrangements are pending with Keplin Funeral Home, Rolette.

Eva Purvis
Eva Purvis, 77, Mandan, died March 25, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Katie Schauer
MCCLUSKY -- Katie Schauer, 90, McClusky, formerly of Turtle Lake, died March 23, 2001, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. Further arrangements are pending with Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake.

Charles Sease
HEBRON -- Charles O. Sease, 58, Hebron, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ March 25, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday at New Life Assembly of God Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Ron Enget officiating.

Public visitation will not be held.

Charles was born Sept. 6, 1942, in McClusky, the son of Ralph and Lois Sease. He graduated from McClusky High School in 1960. On June 30, 1961, he married Violet Reed in Anchorage, Ala.

Charles was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church, Beulah.

He is survived by his wife, Violet; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Tracy and Lisa, Rusk, Texas; one daughter, Ione, and her friend Phil Stafford, West Fargo; three grandchildren, Samuel Reed and Charles Aaron, Rusk, Texas, and Taylor Michael, West Fargo; his parents, Ralph and Lois Sease, McClusky; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Elaine, McClusky, and Dale and Marjean, Hebron; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Maurice Olstad, Monticello, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends that deeply loved and appreciated Charles. Anthony Weasel
BULLHEAD, S.D. -- Anthony H. Weasel, 45, Bullhead, S.D., died March 23, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Little Eagle New Gym, Little Eagle, S.D. Burial will be in Messiah United Church of Christ Cemetery, rural Little Eagle.

He is survived by three daughters, Jamie One Feather, Minneapolis, Minn., Tiffany Weasel, Bullhead, and Trista Weasel, Bismarck; four sons, Travis Weasel, Bullhead, and Sheldon Crow Ghost, Anthony Weasel Jr. and Jared Brown, all of McLaughlin, S.D.; two grandchildren; one sister, Lenora Yellow Earrings, Bismarck; and one brother, John Skinner, Bismarck. Cecelia Young Bear
Cecelia Young Bear, 61, Bismarck, formerly of Mandaree, died March 25, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Marjorie Zappas
AMESTOWN -- Marjorie Zappas, 93, Jamestown, died March 19, 2001, in a Jamestown care center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Episcopal Church, Jamesotwn. Burial will be in McGinnis Cemetery, Jamestown.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Lester, Cheney, Wash.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)
Russell Christianson
JAMESTOWN -- Russell C. Christianson, 82, Jamestown, died March 23, 2001, in a Mesa, Ariz., hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

He is survived by his wife, Eldora; five children, Kay Carpenter, Anaheim, Calif., Steve Christianson, Woodbury, Minn., Randy Christianson, Madison, Wisc., Kim Christainson, Bismarck, and Julie Munsey, Fargo; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Walter, Mesa, Ariz., Joe, Olympia, Wash., and Ted, Upham; and two sisters, Victoria Torr, Minot, and Ellen Miller, Gilbert, Ariz. Father William Fahnlander
Father William Joseph Fahnlander, 80, Bismarck, died March 27, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Church of Christ the King, Mandan, with Most Reverend Paul A. Zipfel officiating. Burial will be at Home on the Range, Sentinel Butte.

Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Church of Christ the King, Mandan, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Fr. Fahnlander was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Minot. He attended his first 12 years of school at St. Leo's in Minot. He attended St. John's University, Collegeville, Minn., where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 1943. He then attended St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. Fr. Fahnlander was ordained to the priesthood, for the Diocese of Bismarck, at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck June 11, 1946, by the Most Reverend Vincent J. Ryan, D.D.

Fr. Fahnlander's first assignment was as an assitant pastor at the Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, from 1946 to 1947. He then went to the Church of St. Leo, Minot, as assistant pastor from 1947 to 1955, and served as part-time chaplain at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Minot, from 1950 to 1954. Fr. Fahnlander was appointed principal of St. Leo's School, Minot, from 1950 to 1955, and also served as administrator at the Church of St. Philomena, Glenburn, and its missions, St. John, Lansford and Holy Family, Deering, from 1953 to 1954.

Fr. Fahnlander was appointed pastor of the Church of St. Michael, Sentinel Butte, and its mission, St. Mary, Medora, from 1955 to 1959. He became the assistant superintendent of the Home on the Range for Boys, Sentinel Butte, from 1955 to 1959, and in October 1959 he was appointed superintendent at Home on the Range for Boys where he served until 1988. Fr. Fahnlander was reappointed pastor of the Church of St. Michael, Sentinel Butte, and its mission, St. Mary, Medora, from 1970 to 1991. He became pastor of the Church of St. John the Baptist, Beach, and its mission, St. Michael, Sentinel Butte, from 1978 to 1991. He served as chaplain for Home on the Range for Boys from 1988 to 1991.

Fr. Fahnlander was named Superintendent-Emeritus for Home on the Range for Boys Jan. 1, 1988. He served as acting pastor for the parishes of St. John the Baptist, Beach, and its mission, St. Mary, Golva, from 1993 to 1994. Father moved into the rectory at Christ the King, Mandan, in August 1991 and assisted at the Church of Christ the King. In November 1996, he retired to the Emmaus Place in Bismarck.

In his retirement, Fr. Fahnlander assisted at several parishes throughout the Diocese of Bismarck, particularly the Church of Christ the King.

Fr. Fahnlander was well loved by those he served. May he now experience the fullness of God's presence. Diocesan priests are asked to celebrate three Masses for the repose of Fr. Fahnlander's soul. May he rest in peace.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Eloise Meyer, St. Paul, Minn.; one niece, Mary Jo Norum, Cottage Grove, Minn.; and one nephew, William Meyer, Trempealeau, Wisc.
