Alma Mader
STANTON -- Alma A. Mader, 80, Stanton, formerly of Columbus, died March 29, 2001, in a Hazen medical center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Pat; one daughter, Marlyne Tveter, Dickinson; one son, Rodney, Arlington, Wash.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Clarence, Hazen, Lorence and Earl, both of Conrad, Mont., Glen, Seattle, Wash., and Norman, Fort Morgan, Colo.; and three sisters, Mildred Gunderson, Sidney, Mont., Doris Peterson, Conrad, Mont., and Irma Sateren, Crosby. Bernice McIntyre
CANDO -- Bernice I. McIntyre, 95, Cando, died March 28, 2001, in a Minot medical center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Assembly of God Church, Cando. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, rural Cando.

She is survived by one daughter, LaNita Bolton, Cando; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Geneva Fox, Des Moines, Iowa. (Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando)

Elmer Monson
Elmer G. Monson, 85, Mandan, died March 28, 2001, in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Vernon Bader officiating. Burial will be in Glen Ullin Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Elmer George Monson was born Dec. 4, 1915, near Glen Ullin, the son of George Elmer and Nettie (Wilson) Monson. Raised and educated there, he married Verna Stiller May 29, 1937, in Mandan. They farmed and ranched in the Almont, Glen Ullin and Hebron areas before moving to Medora in 1968. They had been residents of Mandan since 1977, where Elmer had been employed by Great Plains Research Station.

A hardworking and independent man who was always more at home outdoors, Elmer had a way with horses and in his younger years he loved to break and ride them. He enjoyed dancing, old-time music and ways always known to have a quarter or two in his pocket for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A friend to everyone he met, Elmer always made time to stop by and visit. He firmly believed that a sense of humor was an essential ingredient to a well-lived life.

Elmer was a member of Mandan Eagles Club.

He is survived by his wife, Verna; two daughters and sons-in-law, Eilene and Adam Staiger, Seattle, Wash., and Ernestine and James Svihla, Mandan; one son and daughter-in-law, George and Joyce, Ennis, Mont.; his grandchildren, Kay Miller and her husband Randy, Bismarck, Kim Pittman and her husband Mike, Mandan, and Jami and Jason Monson, Ennis, Mont.; two great-granddaughters, Courtney and Casey Pittman; and one brother, Gaylord Monson and his wife Lea, St. George, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; four sisters; and four grandchildren, Dayton and Jay Staiger and twin grandchildren who died shortly after birth.

Warren Olson
Warren H. Olson, 80, Bismarck, formerly of Jamestown, died March 30, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

He is survived by one daughter, Noreen Olson, Bismarck; and two sisters, Dolores Jacobson, Billings, Mont., and Madeline Ehman, Bismarck.

Herb Schlegel
Herb W. Schlegel, 77, Bismarck, died March 29, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in Dawson Cemetery, Dawson.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Herb was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Lead, S.D., to Christ and Barbara (Meyer) Schlegel. He was raised and educated in Harding, Minn. On Nov. 1, 1986, he married Sandy M. Schmidt in Steele. Herb was self-employed as a trucker for 42 years and owner of Dawson Euro Brick. Herb's last 22 years of trucking were with Foltz Trucking, Detroit Lakes, Minn. Trucking was such a big part of his life.

Herb's family was his passion and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his special love. His coffee buddies at the Oasis were his early morning "best friends."

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jerry Kologi, Ogema, Minn.; four stepchildren and their spouses, Colin and Sara Schmidt, Meridian, Idaho, Scott and Claudine Schmidt, Minot, Lance and Darcy Schmidt, Bismarck, and Angie and Aaron Benz, Moffit; six grandchildren, Scott Gustafson, Shawn Kologi, Jayden Benz, Parker Schmidt, Alex Johnson and Brennan Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Zoey, Cody, Ian and Carrie; and four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Jim and Angie Schlegel, Houston, Minn., Joe and Jeanette Schlegel, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Willis Schlegel, Pierz, Minn., and Earl and Betty Schlegel, Farmington, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chuck; one sister, Mary Jean; and one sister-in-law, Louella.

Ferdinand Stinar
MOORHEAD, MINN. -- Ferdinand C. Stinar, 96, Moorhead, Minn., formerly of Fargo, Bismarck and Jamestown, died March 29, 2001, in a Moorhead care center. Arrangements are pending with Korsmo Funeral Service, Moorhead.

Adam Zerr
HARVEY -- Adam Zerr, 64, Harvey, died March 30, 2001, in the Mandan hospital. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Erwin Ehrmann
Erwin A. Ehrmann, 81, Mandan, died March 2, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home, where a prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Erwin was born on his family homestead northeast of Linton on May 29, 1920, to August and Elizabeth (Rau) Ehrmann. He attended school in rural Linton. On Nov. 29, 1946, Erwin married Phyllis Beck in Ashley, and shared 53 happy yearas together. He spent two years in service of his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. This time spent was always a great source of pride for him. In 1981, Erwin retired from Montana-Dakota Utilities after 29 years of service. His joys in life included his family, a good game of cards, fishing and volunteering his time. Erwin was a friend to all he met and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Erwin is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dwayne and Kathy, Quincy, Ill., Ken and Wendy, Elko, Nev., Steven and Summer, Elko, Nev.; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Robert Lantripp, San Jose, Calif.; his grandchildren, Craig, Christy, Kenny, Mischa, Haley and Niki Erhmann, and Aaron, Andrew, Joshua and Sara Lantripp; and one sister, Adeline Fischer, Linton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Elmer, Oscar and Albert; and two sisters, Pauline and Albina.

Ervin Gehring
Ervin Gehring, 73, Bismarck, died March 2, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Century Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Gordon Stork and Willis Potratz officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in McClusky Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Ervin was born March 7, 1927, in the Lincoln Valley area of Sheridan County, the son of Jackob and Ida (Meyer) Gehring. When he was three years old, the family moved to the Regan area where he grew up and completed an eighth grade education. In his early manhood, he worked for farmers in the Regan area.

On Oct. 2, 1955, he married Marless Wahl of McClusky. Four children were born to this union.

The Gehring family moved to Bismarck and Ervin worked in landscaping. In 1962, they went back to their first love, farming, which they did until 1989. Ervin was forced to retire because of ill health and moved back to the Bismarck area. He was a resident at the Baptist Home from August of 1994 until his death.

Following his conversion to Christ, during the Rev. Gerthe's ministry in McClusky, he was baptized and became a member of McClusky Baptist Church. Currently he was a member of this Church body.

He is survived by his wife, Marless; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kevin and Nancy Gehring, Mandan, Dennis and Michelle Gehring, Minot, and Mark Gehring, Bismarck; one daughter, Deborah Gehring, Bismarck; three grandchildren, Jessica, Josh and Seth; one brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Ardella Gehring, Bismarck; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Viola and Wilmer Hochhalter, Bismarck, and Violet and Arthur Hochhalter, Gillette, Wyo.; his father-in-law, Alfred Wahl of the Bismarck Baptist Home; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his mother-in-law.

Clarion Larson
Clarion E. Larson died on March 1, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital at the age of 94. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Steve Sathre and Magnus Lutness officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Clarion was born Dec. 12, 1906, on a farm near Story City, Iowa. He graduated from Roland High School and Luther College. Mr. Larson came to Bismarck High School in 1929 as a music instructor. Twenty-four years later he left teaching to become a partner in the Guy Larson Music Company. He retired in 1975.

His 72 years of service to the Bismarck community earned him the title "Mr. Music." He directed instrumental and choral groups, staged "K-CRAM-SIB" to showcase the musical talent of his students, organized the Bismarck Symphony Orchestra, played Franch horn in the Elks Band and piano for the Kiwanians, Rotarians and other singing groups. As choir director and organist for Trinity Lutheran Church, he involved musicians from the entire community in the annual presentation of the Messiah to open 65 Christmas seasons.

As the first music director for Bismarck Junior College, he organized and directed a bagpipe band. He was a contributing member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Library Board, Pioneer Auto Club, Kiwanis Club, Thursday Music Club, The Big People, and the White Drug Conference.

A modest man, he greatly appreciated the many honors bestowed upon him including Clarion Larson Day on April 25, 1950, and awards from Luther College, Bismarck Junior College, National Music Club, Trinity Lutheran Church and NDEA.

Clarion was married to Anna Peterson from 1928-1933. In 1938, he married Beth Wheeler and they raised three boys.

He is survived by his sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard, Billings, Mont., Wallace and Carol, Conrad, Mont., and Philip and Jill, San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Vicki and Rick Larson, Billings, Terry Larson, Sacramento, Calif., Kyle Welch, Reno, Nev., Todd Welch, San Francisco, John Larson, Hamilton, Mont., Juli Coburn, Seattle, Wash., and Siena Larson, San Diego; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Sherman, Archie, Floyd and William; and one sister, Mildred.

The family prefers memorials to Bismarck State College, Trinity Lutheran Church or Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
