She is survived by two sisters, Ella Oldenburger, Napoleon, and Lorraine Schulz, Ypsilanti, Mich. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon)

Vivian Dietrich
Vivian K. Dietrich, 86, Mandan, died July 25, 2001, in a foster care home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the church. Vivian Katherine Edwards was born April 2, 1915, in Mandan, the daughter of Oscar and Sena (Jacobsen) Edwards. Raised and educated in Mandan, she married Richard Dietrich on Sept. 10, 1938. They lived their entire married life in Mandan. The Lord was of primary importance and she led her children to share the same strong faith. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Harry Stastny, Mandan, Susan Dietrich, Albuquerque, N.M., and Sally Dietrich, Bismarck; her sons and daughter-in-law, Dick and Shirley, Bismarck, and Ted, Laramie, Wyo.; seven grandchildren, the Rev. Kerry Stastny, Holly Stastny, Darren Stastny and his wife, Tracey, Heidi Stastny, and Jeff Dietrick, Erik Dietrich and Laura Dietrich; her sisters, Norma Sponheimer, Tucson, Ariz., and Hilda Sallows and her husband, Grant, Sunland, Calif.; her sisters-in-law, Audrey Edwards, Albia, Iowa, and Marvis Dietrich, Arizona; her brother-in-law, Lloyd Dietrich and his wife, Florence, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard "Pat," who died on March 8, 1995; her brothers, Einer, Carl, Alf, Leif, and an infant; and her sisters, Eleanor Vendt and Evelyn Bucklin. HARVEY -- Forrest Hanson, 80, Dunseith, died July 26, 2001, in the Dunseith nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending.

Kathleen Herman
KULM -- Kathleen Herman, 64, Kulm, died July 26, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, Kulm. Further arrangements are pending at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.

Ivan Sasse
HAZEN -- Ivan J. Sasse, 67, Hazen, died July 26, 2001, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Monday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah, with the Rev. Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, north of Zap. Ivan was born May 13, 1934, to John and Minnie (Madche) Sasse in Zap. He was raised and educated northeast of Zap. He served in the U.S. Amry from October 1956 to October 1958, and then returned to farm northeast of Zap. On Dec. 17, 1967, he married Rose Buchmann at Beulah. They dairy farmed northeast of Zap. Rose died on Jan. 27, 1984. On June 2, 1985, he married AlVerna Slotto at Zap. In 1995, Ivan retired and moved to Beulah, and in 1999, moved to Hazen. Ivan was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zap, where he served on the church council for a time. Ivan loved farming, spending time driving, and visiting. Ivan is survived by two brothers and one sister-in-law, Rudolph Sasse, Zap, and Herb and Audrey Sasse, Miles City, Mont.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Elsie Dschaak, Beulah, and Erna and Erwin Wolf, Hazen; two stepdaughters, Susan and Judy; one step-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose; one daughter, Sandy; one brother, Adolph; and one sister, Ida.

Betty Shultz
Betty Shultz, 76, Bismarck, died July 27, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Harley Thom
NORWICH -- Harley B. Thom, 74, Norwich, died July 26, 2001, of natural causes. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Harley was born July 10, 1927, in Russell, the son of Bernhardt "Ben" and Freida (Amon) Thom. He was reared and educated at Layton High School in Layton Township. He grew up in an agricultural environment and throughout his life loved farming and managed to stay in the farming industry. In 1949, he married Helen Thompson at Towner. They lived in Minot where he worked for Becwar and Cederstrom as their sales representative. He later became a partner with Art Langen in the T & T Tire Services. In 1959, they moved to Bismarck where they owned and operated the Farmers Supply. After many successful years in farm equipment sales, he branched into selling irrigation systems and drilling water wells around the state. In 1977, the couple moved back to the Minot area where he continued to drill water wells and owned and operated a farm at Upham. He retired from drilling in 1996, and continued with his farming interests until the time of his death. Through the years he was involved in many organizations. He was a member and officer in the congregation at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. He served four years on the State Board of Water Well Drillers, and held a life membership at the Elks and Moose. While at the Moose he served two terms as governor. He was a member of the Norwest Polkateers and served as an officer several times. He also held his pilot's license. He really enjoyed dancing and spent the past 20 years dancing almost every Saturday. He also attended many polka fests. He is survived by his wife, Helen; one daughter, Linda "L.K." Keller and her fiance, Jerome Keller, Bismarck; one granddaughter, Leissa Harter-Keller; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Ann, and Clayton and Myra, all of Minot, and Sheldon and Caroline, Ray; one sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Tony Kupser, Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; one sister, Violet Gartner; and one brother, Willard Thom.

John Verworn
NEW LEIPZIG -- John Verworn, 91, New Leipzig, died July 27, 2001, in the Elgin cre center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Christus Congregational United Church of Christ, New Leipzig. Further arrangements are pending at Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig.

Anna Carlson
NEW ROCKFORD -- Anna Carlson, 45, New Rockford, died July 17, 2001, in her home after a long illness. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford, with burial in Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford. She is survived by her husband, Johnny; her mother, Helen Wishinsky, New Rockford; two brothers, Paul Wishinsky, Gardner, and Anthony Wishinsky, West Fargo; and two sisters, Barbara Wishinsky, Memphis, Tenn., and Caroline Hopkins, Mesa, Ariz. Douglas Heitzman
Douglas W. Heitzman, 37, 307 S. 12th St., died July 28, 2001, in his home. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Darrel G. Lindensmith officiating. Douglas was born June 3, 1964, at Bismarck, to Reuben and Doris (Hone) Heitzman. He was raised and educated in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School. Douglas worked as a cement finisher for Northwest Contracting and most recently for Gene Pudwill. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing with his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Reuben and Doris Heitzman, Bismarck; one daughter, Sarah Kasper, Belcourt; and one brother, Michael, Glen Ullin. Douglas was preceded in death by one brother, Terry.

Philip Huber Jr.
LEHR -- Philip Huber Jr., 81, Lehr, died July 28, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lehr United Methodist Chuch. Further arrangements are pending at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.

Constance Munson
NEW ROCKFORD -- Constance Munson, 56, New Rockford, died July 29, 2001, in the Carrington care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, New Rockford. Further arrangements are pending at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Evelyn Peterson
Evelyn Bateman Peterson, 92, Billings, Mont., died June 10, 2001. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sims Lutheran Church, Sims. Further arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Betty Shultz
Betty J. Shultz, 76, Bismarck, formerly of Parshall, died July 27, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Church of Christ, Bismarck, with the Revs. Dale Carmen and Ken Trana officiating. Betty was born May 6, 1925, the daughter of Otho and Hannah (Wagner) Snyder in Underwood. She was raised and educated in Underwood, graduating from Underwood High School. She attended Trinity Nursing School in the cadet program in Minot to become a registered nurse. She married Elden Shultz in 1948 in Underwood. She enjoyed crafts, singing, spending time with her family, and was also a good listener. She is survived by her husband, Elden; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Connie Shultz, Flasher; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Rodney Sjol, New Town, Rebecca and Fred Gordon, New Prague, Minn., and Paula and Stephen Perkins, Minneapolis; nine grandchildren, Kinsey, Erin and Melaine Shultz, Rachell Filipi, Cassy and Amanda Sjol, Flash and Hannah Gordon and Payton Perkins; two great-grandchildren, Anna and Isaac Filipi; two sisters and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the National Alzheimer's Association (919 Michigan Ave., Chicago, Ill. 60068) or a charity of your choice. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

BOWMAN -- John Arthur Anderson, 95, Bowman, died July 30, 2001, in the Bowman care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Friday at Bowman Lutheran Church, with burial in Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, S.D. He is survived by one daughter, DeeAnn Nutt, Sioux City, Iowa; two sons, Robert, Sugar Land, Texas, and John, Glendale, Ariz.; two sisters, Mildred Hansen, Sioux Falls, and Inga Paulson, Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. HAGUE -- Joseph J. Baumgartner, 94, Hague, died July 30, 2001, in the Mandan care center. Services iwll be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by five sons, Adam, Hague, James, Reliance, S.D., Joe, Bismarck, Walter, Hague, and Charles, Bismarck; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Christine Schumacher, Linton. Dr. Jeremy J. Berge, 57, died July 29, 2001, in his home in San Francisco. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Further arrangements are pending.

John Fasching
John A. Fasching, 45, 303 Eighth Ave. S.W., Mandan, died July 30, 2001, in a Minneapolis hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a parish vigil at 7. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. John Fasching was born Nov. 26, 1955, the son of Margaret (Kreitinger) and Alvin Fasching in Dickinson. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan Senior High School and attending Bismarck Junior College's Electrical Lineman program. John has worked as a journeyman lineman for Capital Electric Power Cooperative since 1977. John married Brenda Barrios in 1976 in Mandan. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who especially enjoyed camping weekends with his family and friends. Through his love for sausage making, cooking and candy making, John has touched many and will be remembered always. John is survived by his wife, Brenda; sons, David, Milwaukee, and Steven, Mandan; daughter, Kate, Mandan; brothers and sisters, James and Diane, Narragansett, R.I., Jeanne Kramer, Las Vegas, Joan and Brian Olander, Mandan, Judy and Tim Wuitschick, Mandan, Alvin Jr. and Lois, Madison, Wis., Joel, Sentinel Butte, and Jan and Rayette, Mandan; his mother-in-law, Caroline Barrios, Mandan; numerous nieces and nephews; his extended family, Cheryl and Gunny Lucas, Larry and Carla Barrios, Linda Schiltz, Rich and Nancy Barrios, Yvette and Fernando McCamant, Barb and Matt Appleby, Michelle and Andy Sennett, and many caring and special friends. His parents preceded John in death. The family prefers memorials to American Heart Foundation.

Garth Hill
GARRISON -- Garth Hill, 44, rural Garrison, died July 30, 2001, in a Minot hospital from injuries suffered in a traffic accident. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Roseglen Immanuel Lutheran Church, with burial in Immanuel Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter, Kelsey; two sons, Carter and Connor, both of Beulah; his father, Royce; and four brothers, Tim, Bismarck, Brian, Garrison, Rodney, Wahpeton, and Stacey Williston. Raymond Johnson

Terry Keller
Terry L. Keller, 47, Bismarck, died July 31, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Theora Marshall
FORT YATES -- Theora Marshall, 80, Fort Yates, died July 30, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Catholic Church, Fort Yates, with burial in Assumption Cemetery, Kenel, S.D. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at the church, where a parish rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Theora was born Oct. 11, 1920, in rural Nevada. She was raised in Bishop, Calif. She married Joseph R. Marshall in 1950 in California. He died in 1970. She was employed at the Indian Public Health Service for 30 years, where she was a supervisor of housekeeping. She retired in 1990. She gave many hours of volunteer work to St. Peter Church. She loved to travel throughout the United States, attending powwows, and had a great sense of caring for others. She was known for her hospitality and was a great cook. She also enjoyed gardening and collecting butterflies, but she will be remembered most for her love for her son and grandchildren who were the center of her life. She is survived by one son, Gary, Fort Yates; four grandchildren, Gary Jr., Christy, Cherie and Gabe; her half-sister, Hazel Yandell, Bishop; and her nieces, Janet Goodwin, and Dawn, Kerri and Aimee Kelly, and Jolene, Maureen and Gean Marshall; and her nephews, Jessie Fisher, and Ted, Jeff and Marshall Kelly, and Warren Marshall. LINTON -- Leona Ohlhauser, 83, formerly of Linton, died July 28, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton, with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Linton. She is survived by two sons, Edgar, Bismarck, and Alvin, Denver; one daughter, Leona Hartman, Bismarck; one brother, Alvin Wohl, Sacramento, Calif.; and three sisters, Esther Ohlhauser, Agnes Walther and Annette Faszer, all of Lodi, Calif.
