Pauline Simmons
GLEN ULLIN -- Pauline Simmons, 85, formerly of Linton and Glendale, Calif., died May 26, 2001, in a Glen Ullin care center. Arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Alice Songstad
MAX -- Alice Songstad, 89, Max, died May 26, 2001, in a Minot hospital. Arrangements are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Leon Tweeten
UNDERWOOD -- Leon B. Tweeten, 81, Underwood, formerly of Turtle Lake, died May 26, 2001, in an Underwood care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Washburn Baptist Church, Washburn. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. She is survived by her husband, Lester; two daughters, Carol Nelson, Turtle Lake, and Judith Bonnett, West Monroe, La.; four sons, Clinton and Donald, both of Washburn, and Gerald and David, both of Turtle Lake; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hazel Nordquist, Virginia, and Ruby Tweeten, Washburn. Elton Anderson
Elton L. Anderson, 82, Bismarck, died May 27, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jake Kincaid officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Elton was born July 2, 1918, in Bismarck, the son of Alex P. and Edith (McDonald) Anderson. He was raised and educated in Bismarck and graduated in 1940 from Bismarck High School. After high school, Elton worked for Boeing Aircraft during World War II. He returned to Bismarck. On June 2, 1946, he and LaVerne Schwappe were married in Wibaux, Mont. He worked for Gerlach Sheet Metal until his retirement in 1981. Elton was a member of the Sons of Norway, First Presbyterian Church, Elks and Belles and Beaus, a square dance club. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and ranching. He was everyone's helper. He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Mary Anderson, Bismarck; several beloved nieces and nephews; one uncle, Red Tressler, Bismarck; and one aunt, Eleanor Smith, Tacoma, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Elvira.

Wilfred Hertel
JAMESTOWN -- Wilfred Hertel, 75, Jamestown, formerly of Carrington, died May 28, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Burial will be in Carrington Cemetery, Carrington. He is survived by his wife, Linda; one daughter, Gloria Cruchet, Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Brad, West Fargo; two stepsons, Jeff Olson, Jamestown, and Jay Olson, Fargo; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold, Carrington.

John Keller
DICKINSON -- John J. Keller, 66, Dickinson, died May 25, 2001, in Dickinson. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. He is survived by his wife, Vickie; three children, Dennis Keller, Gillette, Wyo., Rick Keller, Bismarck, and Sherry Keller, Dickinson; one sister, Eileen Regi, Shade Gap, Penn.; and his stepmother, Marie Keller, Dickinson. LaVerna Kittelson
LaVerna K. Kittelson, 82, Watertown, S.D., died May 26, 2001, in a Mobridge, S.D., hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Watertown. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon, S.D. She is survived by three sons, Wally Sanow, Bismarck, Joseph Kittelson, Minneapolis, Minn., and Dennis Fritz, Belle Fourche, S.D.; three daughters, Annetta Sutton, Bismarck, Mary Engle, Denver, Colo., and Cece Soucy, Watertown, S.D.; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Martha Liedtke
DICKINSON -- Martha Liedtke, 86, Dickinson, died May 27, 2001, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Thursday at Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig. Further arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Mary Miller
Mary Ann Miller, 75, Bismarck, died May 25, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Mary Ann (Andersen) Miller was born April 28, 1926, the daughter of Jacob and Dorothy (Marto) Andersen in Valley City. She grew up and attended school in Luverne. She graduated from high school in May 1942. Mary Ann graduated from VCSC with a two-year teaching certificate on her 18th birthday and continued attending college at Valley City, NDSU, UND, Minot and Kansas State University. She received her teaching degree from the University of Mary. She continued her graduate studies at Moorhead State, where she received a learning disabilities credential. She loved teaching and taught at schools at Luverne, Hazen, Crosby, Buffalo and Bismarck, the past 31 years as an LD teacher. Mary Ann married Eugene Miller on May 3, 1947. Gene died in August 1995. She retired in July 1998. She is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Jo Bickert, Diane Miller and Mary and Allan Dukart, all of Bismarck, and Jean and Jim Schlenvogt, Flagstaff, Ariz.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David E. Miller, Bismarck, and Rick and Claudia, Beulah; six grandchildren, Becca Bickert, Sarah Bickert, Erica and Garrett Schlenvogt and Austin and Michael Dukart; one great-grandchild, Jaxon Beitelspacher; one brother, Jacob L. Andersen, Luverne; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert A. and Lorrie Miller, Bismarck; and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; and her parents.

Pauline Roshau
DICKINSON -- Services for Pauline Roshau, 84, Dickinson, will be held at 10 a.m. MDT today at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.

Alice Songstad
MAX -- Alice Songstad, 89, Max, died May 26, 2001, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Max. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by one son, Harold, Waco, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren. (Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison)

Thomas Cousins Sr.
CARRINGTON -- Thomas H. Cousins Sr., 95, Carrington, died May 28, 2001, in the Carrington care center. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington. Further arrangements are pending at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Doris Egeland
RHAME -- Doris L. Egeland, 71, Rhame, died May 28, 2001, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Rhame, with burial in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Rhame. She is survived by one son, Craig, Rhame; two sisters, Dorothy Voigt, Coleharbor, and Gail Melcher, Laurel, Mont.; one brother, Robert Alexander, Fargo; and two grandchildren. WATFORD CITY -- Georgette C. Felland, 76, Watford City, died May 26, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Watford City, with burial in Schafer Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Hellman, Watford City, and Sharon Wilkie, Dunseith; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Dale Ferderer
DAWSON -- Dale W. Ferderer, 51, Dawson, died May 26, 2001, south of Dawson. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dawson Hall, Dawson, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Dale was born Nov. 22, 1949, the son of William T. and Clara (Hoffman) Ferderer. He graduated from Mandan High School in 1968. He started farming in the Steele-Dawson area in 1972, when he bought the Henry Schwartz farm. He married Janice Erickson in Steele on Sept. 22, 1984. He also worked for Dawson Farms as farm manager. He is survived by his wife, Janice; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Ken Andres, Lincoln; his granddaughter, Ashtyn; his parents, William T. and Clara; three brothers, William G. Ferderer, Craig, Colo., Michael and Sandie Ferderer, and Ken Ferderer, all of Mandan; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Teddi and Bob Blotske, Bismarck, and Joyce and Tony Hofman, Medina; his mother-in-law, Nona Todd; and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nina Jo. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

MILES CITY, Mont. -- Abby Jo Michal, the infant daughter of Franklin and Christy Michal, died May 24, 2001, in Fort Campbell, Ky. Services were held at Grace Bible Church, Miles City with burial in Custer County Cemetery. She is survived by her parents; two brothers, Tristan and Alec, both of Fort Campbell; her grandparents, Linda and Guy Shanta, Bismarck, Ron and Susie Wells, Miles City, Mont., and Chris and Jan Michal, Stacy; and her great-grandparents, Doris Wells, Miles City, Dave and Marge Clark, Riverton, Wyo., Wildene Fortune, Miles City, Agnes and LeRoy Jones and Gwenn and David Michal, all of Flagler, Colo., and John Shanta, Oklahoma; and her great-great-grandparents, Irene Clark, Cody, Wyo., and Vernice White, Miles City.
