Reinhold Woehl
Reinhold Woehl, 88, Wishek, N.D., died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.
Mr. Woehl was born Aug. 1, 1912, on the family farm 17 miles southwest of Wishek, the son of Henry Woehl Sr. and Justina (Boschee) Woehl. He received his elementary education in Rosenfield School District and grew up in the vicinity, where he helped on the family farm. He married Ida Stern Nov. 10, 1935, at her parents' farm near Zeeland, N.D. They lived and farmed 18 miles southwest of Wishek from 1938-56. They then moved to Tuttle, N.D., where they also farmed. In 1958 they moved to Bismarck. In 1960 they moved to a farm 16 miles southeast of Ashley, N.D. In 1967 they returned to Bismarck. In 1971 they moved to Wishek. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Wishek, and Senior Citizens.
He is survived by a three sons, Wesley, Bismarck, Donald (Judy), Redfield, S.D., and Thomas (Dianna), Wishek; two daughters, Gladys (Earl) Schneider, Ashley, and Judie (Gary) Benjamin, Thompson, N.D.; two brothers, Otto, Wishek, and Albert, Bismarck; two sisters, Leah (Johnny) Lindenman, Billings, Mont., and Alma (Sebastian) Engelhard, Aberdeen, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, Victor; four brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, Zion United Methodist Church, Wishek, with the Rev. Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating. Arrangements by Haut Funeral Home, Wishek.
Burial: Wishek City Cemetery, Wishek.

Wayne Greb
Wayne Edward Greb, 74, Valley City, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Mr. Greb was born Jan. 28, 1926, at Valley City, the son of Willard and Evelyn (McConoughie) Greb. He grew up at Valley City, attended school there and worked at various jobs before marrying Thelma Reitan April 20, 1950, at Valley City. He then worked for a company that did seismographic studies and he traveled throughout the United States. He and his family returned to Valley City in 1959. He and his brother owned and operated a service station. He then took a position at Valley City State University in the maintenance section, working in the heating plant at the university. He retired in 1989. He was also a caretaker at Memory Gardens Cemetery for a number of years. In September of 1999, he entered the Sheyenne Care Center.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Douglas (Cheryl Mauer), Jamestown, and Greg (Rose), Valley City; five daughters, Donna (John) Thompson, Hannaford, N.D., Evelyn (Mike) Villiers, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Karen Greb, Park Rapids, Minn., Peggy (Marvin) Rieth, Fargo, N.D., and Wanda (Mark) Danelski, Minneapolis, Minn.; three sisters, Dorlene Stearns and Shirley (Herman) Manke, both Minneapolis, and Carol (Wallace) Nelson, Harwood, N.D.; two brothers, Ervin (Marilyn), Cumberland, Wis., and Alan, Indian Point, Wis.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Valley City, with the Rev. Mark Ostgarden officiating. Arrangements by Peterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City,
Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery, Valley City, in the spring.

Beverly Holm
Beverly M. Holm, 67, Kensal, N.D., died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at her home.
Beverly Schroeder was born March 5, 1933, in Faust, N.D., the daughter of William and Alberta (Ensor) Schroeder. The family moved to Jamestown and later to Idaho. In 1944 they returned to North Dakota and moved to Kensal. She was raised by her grandparents, Ica Mae and Roy Tesch, in her early childhood. She married Lansy J. Holm on Sept. 19, 1950, in Kensal. They farmed near Kensal for many years. He died Dec. 12, 1992. She continued to live on the farm until her death. She enjoyed collecting wolves and stamps, knitting, needlework, baking and cooking.
She is survived by three daughters, Ginger (Verle) McDaniel, Jamestown, Zondra (Leonard) Semblewski, Flager Beach, Fla., and Terre Holm, of Fargo, N.D.; five sons, Lansy Jr., Evansville, Ind., William (Tammy), Spiritwood, N.D., Dann (Claudia), Jamestown, Wesley (Bonnie), Apex, N.C., and Thad, Dillon, Colo.; her mother, New Rockford, N.D.; two sisters, Alberta (Clifford) March, Tuttle, N.D., and Diana (Jim) Peterson, Trevor, Wis.; a brother, Esten (Betty), Yakima, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, husband, and three sisters, Marlene, Bernice, and Billie.
Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. Michael Ward officiating.
Burial: Kensal Cemetery, Kensal.

Beatrice Zander
Beatrice T. Zander, 94, New Rockford, N.D., died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.
Beatrice "Bea" T. Lies was born May 12, 1906, on the family homestead near Bremen, N.D., the daughter of Matthew and Mary (Subart) Lies. She attended school at St. James Academy, New Rockford. She married William W. Zander June 7, 1934, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bremen. They farmed in the Bremen area, until they retired in 1975. In 1980 they moved into New Rockford. In 1998 they entered the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford. He died July 24, 1998. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, rural Bremen, St. Joseph's Christian Mothers, St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford, and St. Agnes Circle.
She is survived by a son, Myron (Kathy), Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Sharol (Victor) Rogalla, Minto, N.D.; a brother, Romeo, New Rockford; seven grandchildren, two stepgrandsons and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Allen; and four sisters.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27., St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford, with the Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating. Arrangements by Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bremen.

Virgil F. Buchholtz
October 11, 1920 — November 20, 2000
Virgil F. Buchholtz, formerly of Jamestown, ND, passed away at his home in Fargo Monday morning.
Born October 11, 1920, at Buffalo Center, Iowa, he moved with his family to Nortonville, North Dakota, in 1922. After attending Nortonville schools for 12 years, Virgil obtained his bachelor's degree from Jamestown College where he played varsity basketball and football with the Jimmies. He later earned a Masters in Education from UND, Grand Forks, and over the years pursued advanced study at both UND and NDSU.
As a Marine Corps pilot in World War II (1942-46) and the Korean Conflict (1952-53), he flew then top secret missions in the renowned Corsair and the predecessor to the world famous Black Bird. He remained on active reserve until resigning his commission in 1955.
On April 1, 1945, Virgil married Louise B. Herring in Jacksonville, Florida. After the war, they returned to Jamestown with their infant son, Neil, where Virgil began his career as an educator with the Jamestown Schools. He taught world history and coached basketball at Jamestown High School from 1947 through 1952 when he was recalled into the Marines. After serving for 15 months, he returned to his teaching duties at JHS until becoming Principal in 1961. Virgil remained the principal at JHS for the next 24 years. After 36 years in the Jamestown School System, he retired in May 1985 when his grandson, Neil II, graduated.
Virgil served both his profession and his community in many ways. He was a member of the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals for 24 years. He served as president in 1966, was on the Board of Directors for 15 years, was on the National Board of Directors for four years, and was Principal of the Year.
He served as Chairman of the Department of Public Instruction Committee that developed the criteria for the first Principal’s credential and led the development and acceptance of the ND Association of School Administrators, an umbrella organization for individual education associations. In addition, he was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a life member of the PTA, and an Honorary Chapter Farmer of the FFA.
Virgil was a Charter Member and served as the first President of the Jamestown Sertoma Club and served as Governor of ND/Manitoba Sertoma International. He was on the Jamestown City Council for 10 years, a Past Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Shrine, the Elks, the Eagles, and the American Legion.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 55 years, Louise (Fargo); two sons, Neil F. Buchholtz (Santa Fe, NM) and Robert F. Buchholtz (Grand Rapids, Michigan); and two grandsons, Neil F. Buchholtz II (Fargo) and Steven Buchholtz (Holland, Michigan). His parents, Forest and Helen Buchholtz and brother, A. G. Bud Buchholtz, all of Jamestown, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Family Memorial Service: 2 PM, Friday, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Chapel, Fargo.
Public Memorial Service: 2 PM, Monday, at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, ND.

Gertrude Honnold
Gertrude Honnold, 94, Jamestown, formerly of Sentinel Butte, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.
Gertrude Carol Hewitt was born Aug. 16, 1906, in Wells County near Sykeston, N.D., the daughter of Martin and Louise (Hildebrand) Hewitt. She attended elementary schools in the Sykeston area and graduated from Sykeston High School. After attending a summer session at Valley City Teachers College, she moved to western North Dakota and taught in a rural school near Sentinel Butte. She married John C. Honnold on Dec. 21, 1928, in Wibaux, Mont. They lived on a farm north of Sentinel Butte for several years before moving into town. He died in 1982. She moved to Jamestown in 1983 and lived at James House. She moved into Central Dakota Nursing Home in January of 1998. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sentinel Butte.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Betty), University Place, Wash., and Dean (Betsy), Federal Way, Wash.; two daughters, Lois (John) Carlson, Yuma, Ariz., and Kelly (Larry) Krein, Jamestown; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and three sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Peggy Dixon Schimke; three brothers, six sisters and a grandson.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Terry Anderson officiating. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Golden Valley County Cemetery, Sentinel Butte.

Janna Hess
Janna Hess, 99, LaMoure, N.D., died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure.
Janna Wiemann was born April 14, 1901, in Missourvi, Iowa, the daughter of Harm and Christina (Nannenga) Wiemann. As a young girl she moved with her family to North Dakota, and they settled in the Verona area. She grew up there and attended rural school. She worked for many area farmers as a cook and housekeeper. She married John W. Hess March 10, 1926, at LaMoure. They lived in the Verona and LaMoure areas since 1926. He died in February of 1977. She continued to live in the LaMoure area and became a resident of St. Rose Care Center in October 2000.
She is survived by two sons, Harold (Mary), Oakes, N.D., and Harland (Hermina), Rozet, Wyo.; four daughters, Jean (Robert) Urbach, Lisbon, N.D., Joan (Ronald) Raatz, Verona, and Frieda Heyd and MarJo (Clarence) Steffes, both LaMoure; a sister, Marie Sletvold, Spokane, Wash.; 34 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three children, her parents, four brothers, three sisters, two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Services: 11 a.m. Jan. 22, Dahlstrom Funeral Home Chapel, LaMoure, with the Rev. David Isaacson officiating.
Burial: Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, Verona.
