She is survived by her husband, Martin; one son, Tom, Balfour; two daughters, Tracy Skar, Minnetonka, Minn., and Marilyn Haugen, Butte; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon Braaten, Velva, and Harold Braaten, Minot; and two sisters, Ardis Huseby, Minot, and Evelyn Cowell, Bismarck. She is survived by two sons, Duane Wolf, Dickinson, and Bob Wolf, Lakeville, Minn.; one daughter, Janet Malsam, Leavenworth, Wash.; three stepdaughters, Lavonne Stroup, Washburn, Donna Tabert, Denver, Colo., and Arlene Haase, Ames, Iowa; six grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Melida Lambert, Olympia, Wash. Katherine Turcotte
TRENTON -- Katherine Turcotte, 87, Trenton, died June 27, 2001, at her home after a short battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston. Burial will be in Trenton Cemetery. She is survived by her children, Alva Boeshans, Linda Berg and Jackie Overstreet, all of Williston, Melton Turcotte and Gordon Turcotte, both of Trenton, and Melda Nutzman, Freemont, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, James Falcon; and four sisters, MaryAnn Brien, Gladys Bakken, Marie Unger and Dolly Beauchman. Barbara Auch
Barbara (Shaw) Auch, 54, formerly of Mandan, passed away June 25, 2001, in Spokane, Wash. Barbara was born Dec. 4, 1946. She was a dedicated nurse with 34 years of nursing service. She was a best friend to all three of her daughters and loved being a grandma. She was also devoted and loving wife for 30 years and was admired by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Auch, Liberty Lake, Wash.; three daughters, Lana Reynolds and her husband Jason, Vancouver, Wash., Lisa McCullogh and her husband Matt, Post Falls, Idaho, and Lora Auch, Spokane, Wash.; her grandchildren, Lauren and Wade Reynolds and one more Reynolds baby expected in August and Maxwell and Cambree McCullogh; her mother, Ann Shaw, Mandan; and her sisters, Sharon Pfau, Bothell, Wash., Kathy Lanz, Ankeny, Iowa, and Linda Haider, Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Shaw. Barbara will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

JAMESTOWN -- Shirley W. Babb, 73, Jamestown, died July 8, 2001, in Fargo. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown. She is survived by her husband, Hal, Sioux Falls, S.D.; three children, Linda Dettman, Fargo, Michael Wahl, Lewistown, Mont., and James Wahl, Eldridge; two stepsons, Greg Babbe, Little Rock, Ark., and Jeff Babbe, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one stepdaughter, Julie Babb, Rapid City, S.D.; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Wayne and Robert Yetter, both of San Jacinto, Calif. Arland Britsch
WISHEK -- Arland Britsch, 59, Wishek, died July 7, 2001, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Haut Funeral Chapel, Wishek. Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, south of Rugby. He is survived by his children, Rhonda Burckhard, Bismarck, and Alana Peterson and Kent Britsch, both of Billings, Mont.; two grandchildren; and one brother and two sisters, Derrel Britsch, Devils Lake, Marlys Aiello, Eugene, Ore., and Travis Gunderson, Buffalo, Wyo.

John Carson
John Carson, 91, Dallas, Ore., formerly of Heaton and Chaseley, died July 7, 2001, in a Dallas care center. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden. Burial will be in Heaton Cemetery, Heaton. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

NEW ROCKFORD -- Frances Coenen, 83, New Rockford, died July 8, 2001, in a New Rockford care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, New Rockford. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford. She is survived by one daughter, Delores Ess, Sartell, Minn.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Sylvia Myhre, New Rockford; and one brother, Erwin Pfau, Indianapolis, Ind. MINOT -- Gladys Flath, 82, Minot, formerly of Max, died July 8, 2001, in a Benedict care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Max. ELGIN -- Ernest Heupel, 88, Elgin, died July 7, 2001, in a Mott care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT today at New Leipzig Baptist Church, New Leipzig. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by two nephews and two cousins. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)

LEEDS -- Laurence Himle, 81, Leeds, died July 8, 2001, in the Rugby medical center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Leeds Lutheran Church. Further arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds.

Darlene Hornbacher
HARVEY -- Darlene Hornbacher, 74, Harvey, passed away July 8, 2001, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church, Harvey. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden, and will continue Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church. Darlene Pfaff, the daughter of Reinhold and Maisie (Busby) Pfaff, was born Jan. 28, 1927, near Mose. She grew up and attended rural schools in Sheridan County and graduated from Anamoose High School in 1944. She then taught country school for one year before joining the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corps. She graduated from Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Minot in 1948. On Nov. 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Harold A. Hornbacher at Lincoln Valley. They made their home in Montana and later lived in various North Dakota communities. Darlene's nursing career spanned 51 years of care giving at St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey, Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs, Mont., Montana Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Galen, Mont., and later working in Dr. Marvin J. Towarnicky's office in Fessenden and as director of nursing at Souris Valley Care Center in Velva. Darlene gave her heart to the Lord as a young child and had been active in various church organizations throughout her life. She was also active in Homemakers, Study Club and the North Dakota Nurses Association. She is survived by her sons, Russell and Dwight and his wife Elaine, all of Fessenden, and John and his wife Tammy, Harvey; her daughter, Roxy Seymour and her husband Scott, Tucumcari, N.M.; eight grandchildren, Jon David, Joy Dawn and JoDayna Hornbacher, LeDuc, Alberta, Canada, Joel Seymour, Abilene, Texas, James Seymour, Tucumcari, N.M., Calvin and Kyla Hornbacher, Fessenden, and Jeremiah Hornbacher, Harvey; many relatives; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on Jan. 31, 1979; and her parents, Reinhold on April 1, 1989, and Maisie on March 2, 1999. The family prefers memorials to Prairie Land Home Health, Harvey; Hospice, Harvey; or Baptist Mission Circle, Bethel Baptist Church, Harvey.

Edward Jenner
WILLISTON -- Edward H. Jenner, 74, Williston, died July 7, 2001, in the Williston medical center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church, Williston. Burial will be in Hillside Memory Gardens, Williston. He is survived by his wife, Mavis; one daughter, C'Dale Jore, Williston; one son, Clark, Williston; four grandchildren; two brothers, Herb, Lincoln City, Ore., and Don, Glendive, Mont.; and two sisters, Hazelle Zimmer, Middletown, Calif., and Ardyth Mosby, Watford City. LEEDS -- Edna M. Johnson, 93, Leeds, died July 6, 2001, in the Rugby medical center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Leeds Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Oliver Laine
NAPOLEON -- Oliver Laine, 78, Napoleon, died July 6, 2001, in the Linton hospital as the result of a farming accident. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre. Burial will be in Finnish Independent Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kintyre. He is survived by his wife, Doloris; one daughter, Roberta Sanchez, Victorville, Calif.; four sons, Michael, Kintyre, David and Gregory, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dennis, Agoura, Calif.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vieno Seppanen and Gertrude Liversage, both of Napoleon. Emily Landeis
GLEN ULLIN -- Emily Landeis, 78, Glen Ullin, died July 8, 2001, in the Glen Ullin care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT today at Marian Manor Healthcare Center Chapel, Glen Ullin, with the Revs. Sebastian Schmidt and Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be held at 4:30 p.m. CDT today in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the chapel. Emily was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Knighton, England, the daughter of George and Rose Ellen Brooks. She was raised and educated in Bampton, England. She entered the Royal Air Force in 1940 where she served on base as a cook. She married Edward Landeis on March 24, 1945, in England. Following Emily's discharge in 1945, she joined Edward in Mandan where she resided until ill health came upon her. She moved to the Marian Manor Healthcare Center in October 1984, where she had resided since. Emily's pastimes included reading and the gift of writing poetry. She was a member of English Friendship Group, Bismarck, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Residents' Council, Marian Manor Healthcare Center. She is survived by three sisters, Ann Wheller, Alice Pattock and Kathleen Tanner, all of England; and her special friend, Alison Krumm, Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, who died Sept. 30, 1991; her parents; and one brother. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)
