Otto Feickert Jr.
Otto "Maddy" Feickert Jr., 74, Bismarck, died June 24, 2001, in a New Salem care center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military honors by Mandan American Legion Post No. 40. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home. Otto was born March 19, 1927, in Jamestown, the son of Otto Sr. and and Christine (Nelson) Feickert. He was raised and educated in Jamestown, Mott and Mandan. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Sea Bee in 1945-46 and spent a year on Guam during WWII. In August 1950 he was recalled from the reserves and served on the East and West Coasts and the Aleutian Islands during the Korean War. He was discharged in November 1951. Previous to military service, Otto worked for Purity Dairy Co. and Railway Express Co. in Mandan. He was hired by the Northern Pacific Railroad in October 1948 as a brakeman-conductor and worked for the Northern Pacific, Burlington Northern and Amtrak Railroads until July 21, 1979, when he retired after 33 years of service. He loved railroading. Otto married Bonnie-Jeanne Blank on Aug. 19, 1954, in Mandan. He loved to hunt, fish, play cards and he enjoyed many days of boating and swimming at the family cabin at Lake Tschida from 1964 to 1978. He was also a great outdoor "grill master" and liked to watch pro football, basketball and baseball on TV. Otto was a member of the Bismarck Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mandan American Legion, Bismarck Elks and the United Transportation Union. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; one daughter, Mary Catherine Feickert, Grand Forks; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James and Rosalie Feickert, Chandler, Ariz., and Paul Feickert, Bismarck; three grandchildren, Mandy Feickert, Ryan Feickert and Michael Lund; his brother, Don, Bismarck; and his sister-in-law, Gloria Feickert, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas; his parents; and his brother, Robert. In lieu of flowers, Otto's family prefers memorials to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery Foundation, Christ the King School, or the donor's choice.

Margaret Johnson
HETTINGER -- Margaret M. Johnson, 85, Hettinger, died June 25, 2001, at her home after a battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Thursday at Hettinger Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the city cemetery. She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Schaefer, New England, and Jean Peterson and Dollyn Johnson, both of Dickinson; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; six brothers, Walter Doerr, Kenneth Doerr and Gene Doerr, all of Hettinger, Dale Doerr, Oroville, Calif., Alan Doerr, Minot, and Vaughn Doerr, Lodgepole, S.D.; and two sisters, Beverly LeFebre, Lodgepole, S.D., and June Stevens, Stanley. Leif Mattson
MINOT -- Leif A. Mattson, 79, Minot, died June 25, 2001, in a Minot care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. He is survived by three sons, Kevin and Douglas, both of Minot, and Jeffrey, Ridgefield, Conn.; two daughters, Linda Nelson, Minot, and Jill Mattson, Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Roald, Minot, and Alf, Scottsdale, Ariz. George Myers
George C. Myers, 91, St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, died June 24, 2001, in the care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Art Scanson and Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. George was born June 27, 1909, at Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of George David and Ida Mae (Haisley) Myers. The family moved to North Dakota in 1916, and George grew up in Werner and Dunn Center. He received his education in Cincinnati and Werner. He moved to Bismarck in 1928. George married Eunice E. Bowen on May 14, 1933. She passed away on Nov. 19, 1980. He married Bertha Grossman Bender on Nov. 30, 1985. George was employed as a bookbinder at the Bismarck Tribune, as owner and operator of Myers Grocery, and as a salesman for National Biscuit Co. He became a pressman for Conrad Publishing Co. In 1961 he achieved his lifelong goal when he and his brother, Calvin, opened Dakota Printing Co. He continued to work there until his retirement in 1980. George was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church, Pressmen's Union, United Travelers, Elks, and was a lifetime member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed woodworking his entire life. He is survived by his wife, Bertha; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lyda Scharnowske, Bismarck, Mavis and Eugene Fuher, Bismarck, and Linda and Luray Biederstedt, Bismarck; one stepdaugther, Carrie Grossman, Bismarck; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Mike and Gail Bender, Norman, Okla.; nine grandchildren, Kerri Scharnowske, Kathy Kalvoda, Karen and Paul Munson, Robert and Dani Scharnowske, Katherine and Jay LInk, Richard and Tanya Fuher, Heidi Biederstedt, Tyer Biederstedt and Jessica Bender; seven great-grandchildren, Kimberly Kalvoda, Kelly Kalvoda, Kayla Fuher, Grant Munson, Lexi Munson, Joseph Fuher and Hannah Fuher; one brother, Calvin Myers; one nephew, John, and his wife, Audrey Myers; and their children, Shanna and Ryan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; his son, Richard his parents; and his sister, Alice. The family prefers memorials to McCabe United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.

Patsy Prince
MCCLUSKY -- Patsy R. Prince, 69, McClusky, died June 6, 2001, in a Hot Springs, Ark. hospital. Memorial services were held June 23 in Hot Springs, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky. Patsy was born Jan. 15, 1932, at Bald Knob, Ark. She is survived by her husband, Herb Prince, McClusky; her mother, Mildred (Pauline) Smith, Hot Springs; two sisters, Maxine Crusing, Hot Springs, and Betty Stanton, Tinley Park, Ill.; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Lester and Debbie Storment, Conway, Ark., Michael and Vicky Storment, Mt. Vernon, Ill., Dave and Stephanie Prince, Little Rock Air Force Base, Jon and Donna Prince, Jacksonville, Ark., and Steve Prince, Austin, Ark.; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jerry Moore, Ward, Ark.; nine grandchildren, Wesley and Tamber Storment, Conway, Ark., Ray Lynn and Michael Storment, Mt. Vernon, Catherine, Jacob and Nina Prince, Jacksonville, Ark., Damon Prince, Caddo Gap, Ark., and Katherine Prince, Little Rock Air Force Base; and one great-granddaughter, Krista Storment, Mt. Vernon.

Virgil Roberts
MADDOCK -- Virgil Roberts, 82, Maddock, died June 25, 2001, in the Harvey medical center. Arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

Jordawn Sipe
Jordawn N. Sipe, 3, Huntley, Mont., died June 23, 2001, in an auto-related accident in Arnegard. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilmington Lutheran Church, Arnegard. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Mont. She is survived by her parents, Thomas and Teena Stipe, Huntley, Mont.; two brothers, Brendon Larson, Newberg, Ore., and Blake Larson, Huntley, Mont.; one sister, Macalya Sipe, Huntley, Mont.; her grandparents, Charles and Carol Long, Huntley, Mont., and Clinton and Darlene Sipe, Arnegard; and her great-grandmother, Hazel Haser, Malta, Mont. Monte Swenson
Monte L. Swenson, 52, Bismarck, died June 22, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1326 will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Monte was born July 18, 1948, in Bismarck, the son of William L. and Betty Jane (Small) Swenson. He was raised on a ranch south of Bismarck. Monte went to Manning School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1966. Monte enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. He had a distinguished service career and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in ground combat. In a statement issued by Monte's commanding officer, it was noted that when a personnel carrier was hit by a detonated mine, Pvt. Swenson, disregarding his own safety, dismounted, and began placing a heavy volume of fire on enemy positions. Pvt. Swenson continued to provide cover fire for his wounded comrades until they could be evacuated. His personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Ninth Infantry Division and the U.S. Army. Following the war, Monte returned to Bismarck. He married Patricia Conitz on Aug. 4, 1972, in Bismarck. They ranched south of Bismarck, and for the past 10 years, Monte had managed the Elbow Room. Not only was Monte a hero in Vietnam, he was also a hero to his friends and family at home. He was generous with his time and talents, and would do whatever he could for anyone who needed a hand. Children loved Monte and he loved them. He is survived by his daughters, Amy Barton and her husband, William, and Michelle Swenson, all of Minneapolis; his son, Michael, Minneapolis; his newborn grandson, Wyatt Monte Barton; his mother, Betty Jane McCormick, Bismarck; his brother, Gene Swenson, Dallas; his sisters, Linda and Don Hawley, Indian Wells, Calif., Vicki and Milo Trusty, Bismarck, Patty and Tim Mattson, Menoken, Peggy and Roman Kauffmann, Bismarck, and Pam McCormick, Bismarck; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his fathers, William Swenson and Gene McCormick. Memorials may be made to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery or to the donor's choice.

Ernest Will
ELGIN -- Ernest H. Will, 66, Elgin, died June 25, 2001, while at work in Hebron. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Christus Congregational Church, New Leipzig. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. He is survived by his wife, Marcella; one son, Wesley, Burnsville, Minn.; two daughters, Julie Martinson, Kokomo, Ind., and Shari Neumiller, Maple Grove, Minn.; four grandchildren; one brother, Emanuel, Elgin; and two sisters, Opal Roth, Washburn, and Violet McIntire, Pasco. Paul Baltrusch
HARVEY -- Paul W. Baltrusch, 78, Harvey, died June 27, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Otto Burkhardt
JAMESTOWN -- Otto E. Burkhardt, 101, Jamestown, died June 24, 2001, in a Jamestown care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown. He is survived by one son, Robert, Jamestown; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, John, Thousand Oaks, Calif. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Ronald Fraase
Ronald G. Fraase died peacefully in his sleep June 16, 2001, in Washington, D.C. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Sts. Anne and Joachim Catholic Church, Fargo. Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo. Ron is probably remembered by the barley farmers of North Dakota for his feasability study for the malting plant which came into existence at Spiritwood. The wheat farmers will remember him for his work with the North Dakota Wheat Commission from 1974 to 1977 and for U.S. Wheat Associates in Rotterdam from 1977 to 1993. Ron traveled extensively throughout Eastern and Western Europe, Russia, Israel and South Africa. His motto was "We must always remember that we are working for the American wheat farmer." He left U.S. Wheat Associates in 1993 and returned to the United States. Through Ron's work in Russia after the fall of communism in that country, he and his partner Nina Kostina formed Frank Foundation Child Assistance International, Inc. The purpose of this organization is primarily to give support to the orphanages and aid disadvantaged children in the former Soviet Union. Their secondary goal is to identify orphans who are available for international adoption. To date they have placed more than 5,000 children in loving homes. He is survived by four sisters, Elaine Laches, Adeline Chadwick, Alice Fischer and Ina Udell; one brother, Roger; his ex-wife, Betty; two sons, Damian and his partner Marcellus and Bennett and his wife Lori; and one grandson, Lukas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Carl Glur
ASHLEY -- Carl F. Glur, 81, Ashley, died June 27, 2001, in the Ashley medical center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Ashley. Further arrangements are pending with Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

George Hambrick
George Hambrick, 75, Florence, Ore., formerly of Carrington, died June 24, 2001, in a Florence care center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. July 6 at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington. Further arrangements are pending.

Virgil Roberts
MADDOCK -- Virgil R. Roberts, 82, Maddock, died June 25, 2001, in the Harvey medical center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; one daughter, Sharon Roberts, Minneapolis, Minn.; two stepsons, James Sanders, Sioux City, Iowa, and Jerome Sanders, Omaha, Neb.; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bernice DeBois, San Francisco, Calif., and Evelyn Ficken, Cambridge, Minn. GRAND FORKS -- Joseph J. Worman, 38, Grand Forks, died June 23, 2001, in Rapid City, S.D., as the result of a car accident. MINOT -- Beverlee Jeanne Guttormson, 49, Minot, died of cancer, July 17, 2001, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. She is survived by her husband, Roger; two sons, Robert, Grand Forks, and Dan, at home; her parents, Harold and Jeanne Rensch, Garrison; two sisters, Brenda Thompson, Everson, Wash., and Barbie Jo Martin, Phenix City, Ala.; and three brothers, Dave Rensch, Garrison, Dwight Rensch, Garrison, and Doug Rensch, New Town. Evelyn Haider
MINOT -- Evelyn Theresa Haider, 78, 208 22nd St. N.W., Minot, died July 17, 2001, in a Minot nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. John the Apostle Church, Minot, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Foxholm, at 4 p.m. Friday. Visitation will be from 1-8:30 p.m. today at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, where a rosary and prayer service will begin at 7 tonight. Evelyn was born Jan. 18, 1923, at Foxholm, the daughter of Aloys and Ella (Hoerter) Miller. She was raised in Foxholm and graduated from Foxholm High School. She married Leonard Haider on Feb. 24, 1943, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Foxholm. The couple lived in Texas for two years while Leonard was stationed in the U.S. Army. Evelyn moved back to Foxholm when Leonard was sent overseas. In 1947, the couple moved to Williston where Leonard worked for Minot Supply Co. In 1957, her husband was transferred to Minot where Evelyn worked for Miracle Mart, managing the lunch counter and bakery. Leonard died in 1982. She was a charter member of St. John's Catholic Church, Minot, and was a past president of the Ladies Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was also a member of Elks, American Legion Auxiliary and Knights of Columbus, all of Minot. Evelyn was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and loved watching her husband and children play softball. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, baking and gardening. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her mother, Ella Miller, Foxholm; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Linda, MInot, Sam and Sheri, Minot, Donnie, Cumming, Ga., and Tom and Paula, Bismarck; daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and Greg Uhlberg, Bismarck, and Patty and Roger Erickson, Minot; her grandchildren, Tom Haider, Denver, Brian Ulberg, Tim Uhlberg and his wife, Melissa, Bismarck, Melissa Haider, Roswell, Ga., Joe and his companion, Jennie Schroeder, Jim, Sammantha, Sallie Haider, all of Minot, Brett and Courtney Haider, both of Bismarck, and Kristin Erickson, Minot; one great-grandchild, Parker Haider; her brothers, Francis Miller, Burlington, Alvin Miller, Foxholm; and her sisters and brother-in-law, Connie Stammen, Minot, and Myrna and Ray Messer, Derby, Kan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her father, Aloys; and two brothers, Ralph and Harry Miller.
