Audrey Dusek
Audrey A. Dusek, 73, rural Martin, N.D., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, of natural causes at her home.
Audrey Ann Hattie Grochow was born June 2, 1927, at her aunt's home in Harvey, N.D., the daughter of Ben and Malinda (Liebe) Grochow. She grew up on the family farm north of Martin and attended White Township School in southern Pierce County. As a young woman she was a housekeeper for a family in Billings, Mont. She worked at Albrecht General Merchandise Store in Anamoose, N.D., for several years. She married Lawrence Dusek Oct. 17, 1949, in Anamoose. They lived north of Martin, where she was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Anamoose, active in its church women and taught Sunday school. She was also a bus driver for White Township School for a number of years.
She is survived by her husband; seven daughters, Susan Corwin, Jamestown, Deborah (Larry) Schoepp, Lakota, N.D., Janice (Kim) Degenstein and Grace (John) Mlnarik, both Forman, N.D., Joan (Chip) Chiapputi, Spring Valley, Calif., Anette Dusek, Reno, Nev., and Judy (Tony) Lill, Langdon, N.D.; four sons, Russell (Alice), Stanley, N.D., David (Mary), New Rockford, N.D., Lowell (Linda), Anamoose, and James (Anita), Mesa, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; two sisters, Angelou (Edward) Keller, Anamosa, Iowa, and Grace Weigel, Ames, Iowa; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Anamoose. Arrangements by Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.
Burial: St. Martin's Lutheran Cemetery, Anamoose.

Anne Olson
Anne O. Olson, 83, Valley City, N.D., died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.
Anne Oliva Grotting was born Nov. 6, 1917, at Sutton, N.D., the daughter of Peter and Petra (Peterson) Grotting. At a young age she moved with her family to Valley City and attended Green School near Valley City. She married Oscar O. Olson Sept. 21, 1935, in Valley City. They lived on the family farm southeast of Valley City. In 1977 they retired from farming and moved to Valley City. He died Jan. 23, 1990. She was an active member of Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City. She was a caregiver and companion for many elderly people in the Valley City area. She retired at age 78.
She is survived by four daughters, Beverly (Ron) Strand, Mission, Texas, Janet (Doyle) Watson, Woodinville, Wash., Linda (Robert) Nagle, Park Rapids, Minn., and Lylanne Krebs, Yakima, Wash.; two sons, Gary (Diane) and Steven (Gaylene), both Valley City; a sister, Thelma Lee, Puyallup, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son, two sisters and three brothers.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City, with the Rev. Joel Rolf officiating. Arrangements byPeterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City.
Burial: Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City, in the spring.
Memorials: Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City, or The Association of Free Lutheran Congregations.

Cecile Shirley
Cecile M. Shirley, 87, Jamestown, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.
Cecile Mae Setterholm was born May 27, 1913, in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of Ernest and Julia (Kolbak) Setterholm. She moved with her mother and two sisters to Lake Williams, N.D., when she was 7-years-old. She grew up on a farm with her mother and stepfather, Hans Overby. She received her education in Lake Williams and Robinson, N.D. She married Orville Shirley May 20, 1933, in Steele, N.D. They lived in Robinson, until 1937 when they moved to a farm north of Valley City, N.D. In 1947 they returned to Robinson. He died March 6, 1975. In 1962 she moved to Jamestown, where she had a day care center for many years. She enjoyed following the Jamestown Blue Jays basketball team on the radio, crossword puzzles, cross-stitch, scrabble, flowers and her pets, Charlie, Ebony and Bon Ami.
She is survived by six daughters, Barbara Jean (Richard) Eberly, Peoria, Ariz., Sharon Jewel (John) Machnis, Fenton, Mich., Linda Kay Krapu, Glendale, Ariz., Susan Marie Lawrence, Jamestown, Ellaura Ann Ukofia, Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Rhonda Mae (Melvin) Eichhorn, Fargo; four sons, Lauren David (Kathy), Cheyenne, Wyo., Norman Dean (Tricia), Jamestown, Jon Lee (Jan), Gillette, Wyo., and Robert Mellum (Pam), Rigby, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Shirley, Peoria, Ariz.; a sister, Fern Bostrom, East Grand Forks, Minn.; two brothers, Lauren (Jenny), Harbor Heights, Texas, and George (Bobbi), Tempe, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sons, Richard, Dennis and Gerald; a sister, Vivian Sturm; two brothers, Peter and Allen; two grandsons and a great-grandson.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Gilbert Richter officiating. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Valley City, in the Spring.

Mercedes Muenz
Mercedes Muenz, 101, South Bend, Ind., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Holy Cross Care Center, South Bend.
Mercedes Muenz was born July 29, 1899, at Bowdle, S.D., the daughter of Louis and Adeline (Smithberger) Muenz. She moved with her family to Jamestown, where she graduated from St. John’s Academy in 1916. She attended the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul, Minn., graduating with a degree in library science in 1924. She returned to Jamestown, where she worked as a librarian. In 1947 she moved to South Bend, where she was employed by the University of Notre Dame as a secretary and archivist until she retired in 1980. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, South Bend.
She is survived by two goddaughters, Mary Katherine Gulmon and Mary Margaret Cadieux, both Valley City, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alma; and a brother, Louis.
Services: Held in South Bend, and a graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, in the spring.

John House
John T. House, 50, Orange Park, Fla., formerly Grace City, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at his home.
Mr. House was born Nov. 3, 1950, in Jamestown, the son of Raymond and Cecilia (Wolf) House. He attended school in Grace City, Assumption Abbey, Richardton, N.D., and Cardinal Muench Seminary, Fargo. He graduated from high school in 1969. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and retired after 20 years of service. He was active in volunteer and church activities in his community in Florida. He enjoyed traveling and collecting antiques.
He is survived by two brothers, Christopher, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Joseph (Eileen), Amenia, N.D.; and a sister, Clarice (Dean) Snow, Kensal, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27. Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, with the Rev. Lawrence Haas officiating.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery, in the spring, with military honors by Carrington VFW McCreary-Bonderud Post #3524 and American Legion John Raymond O'Hara Post #25.

John Fettig
John A. Fettig, 72, Napoleon, N.D., died Jan. 23, 2001, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.
Mr. Fettig was born July 26, 1928, on the family farm in rural Logan County, north of Napoleon, the son of Anton A. and Barbara (Schlosser) Fettig. He grew up on the family farm and received his elementary education in rural Logan County Schools. He served in the Korean War from 1951-53. He returned to the family farm. He married Margaret Hilsendeger June 8, 1954, in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. In 1961 they purchased the family farm, where they lived and farmed until 1982, when they moved into Napoleon. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He served as a board member on the FmHA Board, Napoleon Fire Department, Farmers Union Elevator, Glendale Township Board, and St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. He served on the American Legion building committee, as past American Legion commander and as a Napoleon ambulance squad driver. He enjoyed farming and dancing.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Rich, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ronald (Colleen), and Kenneth, both Napoleon; two daughters, Carol (Lonnie) Wentz, and Connie (Rick) Schumacher, both Napoleon; two brothers, Frank A. (Mary) and Joe A. (Veronica), both Napoleon; a sister-in-law, Betty Fetting, Napoleon; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ben A. and Valentine; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Wald Fettig.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with the Rev. James Lauerman officiating. Arrangements by Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.
Burial: St. Philip Neri Catholic Church Cemetery, Napoleon.

Edith Clinkingbeard
Edith L. Clinkingbeard, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Louisville (Colo.) Hospital.
Edith Louise Smith was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Homer Townships, southeast of Jamestown, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Curtis) Smith. She grew up and attended school in Jamestown. She married Leroy Clinkingbeard in 1946, at Aberdeen, S.D. They lived in Jamestown for a while, where she worked as a lunchroom supervisor at Washington School. They moved to Fergus Falls, Minn., and then to Milbank, S.D., where she worked at the Ben Franklin Store for several years. They later moved to Apache Junction, Ariz. They moved to Lafayette, Colo., after he retired from Otter Tail Power Company. She enjoyed going to flee markets, crafts and traveling.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Colleen (Dennis) Fode, Billings, Mont., and Debra (Tom) Foster, Fort Lupton, Colo.; a son, Rick, Boulder, Colo.; two sisters, Frances (Leonard) Rude and Irene Demaray, both Jamestown; a brother, Robert (Barbara), Apache Junction; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fred; a sister, LaVern; and a daughter, Pamela Davis.
Graveside Memorial Service: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, in May.
Memorials to: American Cancer Association.

Ann Hammond
Ann "Babe" Hammond, 82, Billings, Mont., died Dec. 14, 2000, at Billings.
Ann "Babe" Lulai was born Dec. 10, 1918, at Fried, N.D., the daughter of Paul and Anna (Pumpach) Lulai. She grew up in the Fried area. She married Ted Hammond Feb. 3, 1962, in Cody. He died in 1988.
She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn Obenshain, Bakersfield, Calif., and Paulette Spain, Fairfield, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Edith Jarland, Billings; a stepson, Carrol P. Hammond, Billings; a sister, Gertrude Dean, Jamestown; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 16 stepgrandchildren; 31 stepgreat-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
