Anne Baeth
Anne C. Baeth departed for a better life on Jan. 11, 2000, in Mandan. She was the daughter of Christine and Charlie Anderson.
She was born in Bismarck, graduated from Bismarck High School and lived on a farm near McKenzie.
In 1937, she married Raymond Baeth. They moved to California, where Anne became a beautician. They both returned to the farm and raised two daughters, Norene and Janice. An accomplished life master in bridge, Anne leaves her bridge table and all her beloved partners, and players of the game.
Anne was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Baeth; dear mother of Norene Baeth, Fargo, and Janice Baeth Wheeler, St. Louis, Mo.; loving grandmother of Kristopher Wheeler, and his wife, Tracy; and joyful great-grandmother of Lee and Kasey Wheeler, St. Louis.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Boelter Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are preferred to American Lung Association.

Viola Tufteland
WING -- Viola "Vi" Tufteland, 72, Wing, died Jan. 10, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wing, with the Revs. Muriel Lippert Schauer officiating. Burial will be in Wing Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service.
Viola Elaine Nelson was born Nov. 4, 1927, the daughter of Ed and Valborg (Nestegaard) Nelson, at Michigan, N.D. She married Kenneth Tufteland, Aug. 2, 1953, at Larimore. Vi and Kenneth lived on a farm south of New Salem until 1987, when they moved to Bismarck, and in 1993, to Wing.
Vi was a member and was very active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed quilting and her Bible study group.
Vi is survived by her husband, Kenneth; one sister, Bernice Hamilton, Sheridan, Wyo.; two nephews, David and his wife, Joann Hamilton, and John Hamilton; and one niece and her husband, Lauri and Dan Hill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother-in-law, Byron Hamilton.

Clarence Sievers
Clarence Lee "Larry" Sievers, 69, Bismarck, died Jan. 10, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with the Rev. LaRue Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Bismarck.
Visitation will begin one hour before services at the funeral home.
Larry was born June 12, 1930, in Faulkton, S.D., the son of Clarence and Grace (Stoddard) Sievers. His younger years were spent in Faulkton. He graduated from Faulkton High School in 1948. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1949 and was stationed in Rhode Island. After an honorable discharge, Larry was active in the Reserves until 1956.
Larry married Mardell Carpenter of Whitefish, Mont., in Faulkton on Aug. 4, 1953. He served as hospital administrator at Turtle Lake, Quincy, Wash., and was administrator in Watford City from 1955 until his retirement in 1989. He was involved in many civic organizations. He served on the Watford City Council for more than 20 years.
Larry was a member of the Lutheran faith, Elks Lodge in Bismarck and Mandan, and American Legion. During his career in the health care field he served on numerous organizations, including North Dakota Blue Cross Association. He was awarded the North Dakota Hospital Association Distinguished Service Award in 1988.
Since his retirement, he has resided in Bismarck for the last five years.
Larry was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be greatly missed by his wife of 46 years, Mardell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Virginia, Atlanta, and Jeffery and Carol, Park Rapids, Minn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Leann Sievers and Lee Little, Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Lindsey, Amy and Peter Sievers, all of Atlanta, Tyson and Dylan Sievers, Park Rapids, Minn., and Kyle and Jesse Little, Bismarck; one sister, Donna Speck, Faulkton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lillian Offerdahl
Lillian Offerdahl, 90, long-time Bismarck teacher, died Jan. 9, 2000, in Northwood. Services were held Tuesday in Northwood.
She is survived by one daughter, Ferdie Gardin; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. (Bilden Funeral Home, Northwood)

Klyde Mahlum
Klyde Edward Mahlum, 84, Bismarck, died Jan. 11, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Entombment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Rochester, Minn. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service.
Klyde Mahlum was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Albert Lea, Minn., to George and Carrie (Dodge) Mahlum. He was raised and educated in Albert Lea and Sioux Falls, S.D. After the death of his father, the family moved to Florida where Klyde graduated from West Palm Beach High School. Klyde moved to St. Paul, Minn., and married Katherine Neis in 1944. They lived in Rochester, where he was employed with the IBM Co., from which he retired in 1978. They moved to Bismarck in 1981.
Klyde was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher. He volunteered at the Heritage Center for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; and one sister, Alma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to American Heart Association, the Arthritis Foundation or the Mental Health Association.

Erin Frohlich
DICKINSON -- Erin Lynn Frohlich, the infant daughter of Patrick and Coralie Frohlich, Dickinson, was stillborn Jan. 5, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital. Private services were held at Price-Murphy Funeral Home on Jan. 7, 2000. Burial was in St. Vincent's Cemetery, Crown Butte.
She is survived by her parents, Patrick and Coralie; one brother, Logan, at home; her paternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Frohlich, Mandan; her maternal grandparents, Darrel and Gwyn Oech, Beach; and her great-grandmother, Edelia Oech, Beach. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Albina Novotny
DICKINSON -- Albina Novotny, 96, Dickinson, died Jan. 11, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Thursday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Olga Weinhardt
GLEN ULLIN -- Olga Weinhardt, 92, Glen Ullin, died Jan. 11, 2000, in Glen Ullin. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at the church, where a prayer service and rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m Thursday.
Olga was born July 25, 1907, near Glen Ullin, the daughter of Philip and Susie (Beierlein) Meyer. She was raised and educated northeast of Glen Ullin. She helped on the farm until her marriage to Peter Weinhardt on Jan. 9, 1925. They settled on a farm north of Glen Ullin, which they operated until 1950, when they retired and moved into Glen Ullin. Peter died July 27, 1957. She entered Marian Manor Healthcare Center in October 1999.
In the past, Olga enjoyed gardening, sewing, fishing, playing cards and baking. She was a member of Glen Ullin Senior Citizens and a past member of Ladies Aid.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Viola, Glen Ullin; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Rausch, Glen Ullin. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)

Linda Comben
Linda Lee (Eastman) Comben, 57, Mounds View, Minn., died suddenly on Jan. 9, 2000.
Linda was born in 1942 in Bismarck, and graduated in 1960 from Bismarck High School. She went on to earn a degree in business administration from the University of North Dakota in 1964. Linda was also a business partner with her husband since 1985.
She enjoyed knitting, quilting, visiting with family and friends, as well as reading and relaxing with nature at their log cabin in Grantsburg, Wis.
She is survived by her husband, Richard H.; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard Allan and Amy Hanson; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and David Ness; and one sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Terry Dullum, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Allan and Hazel Eastman.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, with a service at 7 p.m. at Miller-Brighton Chapel, New Brighton, Minn.

Mark Lanenga
SYKESTON -- Mark Lanenga, 41, Sykeston, died Jan. 11, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

John Halloran
John Francis Halloran, 69, 200 N. Mandan St., died Jan. 8, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital from complications with lung cancer.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Revs. Thomas Kramer and Robert Feeney officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.
Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services.
John was born July 13, 1930, in Bismarck, to Francis and Ada (Maurer) Halloran, both descendants of early pioneer families, the Lyons, who were stationed at old Fort Lincoln during Custer's time, and the Hallorans, who operated the Custer House in early Bismarck. John attended St. Mary's Grade School and High School, graduating in 1948. He graduated from St. John's University, Collegeville, Minn., in 1952, and completed further studies at several other universities. He taught English in three states.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and later volunteered for the newly organized Peace Corps, serving in the Philippines from 1961 to 1963. John was reunited with his friends and students from the Philippines at a fiesta held in his honor last summer in Los Angeles.
After extensive traveling in the mid-1960s, John returned to Bismarck. He was assistant director of the North Dakota Travel Department -- and then worked as a writer/editor for Basin Electric Power Cooperative for five years. John operated two gift shops, Import House and East West Gift Center in the early 1970s.
He and Virginia Nelsen were married on June 15, 1978, in Bismarck. The couple operated a gift store, Yes Virginia, from 1978 to 1996.
In recent years, John wrote and self-published two books. The first, "A Journal for Katherine," is a memoir about early Bismarck, his family and his experiences through his college years. The second was a memoir of his years in the Peace Corps.
The first altar boy at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, John was active in his church parish for many years.
He was a founding member of the Cinema 100 film society and was involved in the selection of this season's series. Other community activities that reflected his interest in the arts included serving on the founding board of Dakota West Arts Council and Dakota Stage Limited. Recently he assisted with collecting memorabilia and documenting the history of early concerts at the Belle Mehus Auditorium. He also was a trustee of Veteran's Memorial Library for two years.
John leaves his wife, Virginia Nelsen; their daughter, Katherine Nelsen Halloran; and two sisters, Margaret Kelly, Denver, and Mary Halloran, Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Leo.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers gifts to establish a college fund for their daughter, Katherine.

Roberta Wilder
WILLISTON -- Roberta J. Wilder, 45, Williston, died of cancer, Jan. 7, 2000, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; her father, Robert Olson, Nixa, Mo.; and two sisters, Virginia Evangelist, Madison, Wis., and Karen Olson, Oklahoma City. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

George Werner
MCCLUKSY -- George Werner, 86, Clarkston, Wash., formerly of McClusky, died Jan. 8, 2000, in Lewiston, Wash. Services will be held Friday at Lewiston Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Leslie, Clarkston, Wash., and Thomas, Winter Springs, Fla.; two brothers, Elmer, Lodi, Calif., and Fred, Bismarck; three sisters, Adeline Guessle, Bismarck, Alvina Krein, McClusky, and Ellen Waltz, Avondale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. (Merchant Funeral Home, Clarkston, Wash.)

Mabel Keck
Mabel Stolz Keck, 93, Bis-marck, died Jan. 8, 2000, in a Bismarck care center after a short illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Mabel Oppeboen was born of Norwegian immigrant parents, Olaf and Anne (Dalene) Oppeboen on Dec. 12, 1906, on a homestead near Van Hook.
She was raised in Crane Creek Township and graduated from Van Hook High School. Mabel continued her education at Interstate Business College in Fargo.
Later she worked at Sather's and Andersgord's general stores in Van Hook and Sanish. She and Mike Stolz were married and together they worked as a bookkeeper and manager of Farmers Union Oil companies in the North Dakota towns of Sanish, Glen Ullin and Jamestown. They moved to Bismarck when Mike retired and Mabel worked as a bookkeeper for the Bismarck Farmers Union Oil Co. Mike died in 1963 and Mabel began selling real estate.
Mabel married Emanuel Keck. They spent summers in Bismarck and wintered in California and Mesa, Ariz. It was in Mesa she took up china painting and shared her work with all her family and many friends.
Mabel was a child of God, a very vibrant, loving woman who made friends wherever she went. Her last six months were spent at Edgewood Vista, an assisted living facility where she took great joy in showing her painted egg collection and sharing her handwork.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Orville Strand, Bismarck, and Shirley and Dave Stenseth, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one sister, Clara Edwards, Great Falls, Mont.; one sister-in-law, Lydia Boese, Harvey; seven grandchildren, Dianne Mueller, Bloomington, Minn., Tom Williams, Dickinson, Michael Williams, Moorestown, N.J., Jim Williams, Tulsa, Okla., Lynne Campion, Tujunga, Calif., Maren Stenseth, Santa Monica, Calif., and David M. Stenseth, Monroe, La.; 12 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Haakon Oppeboen; both husbands; and an infant granddaughter, Deborah Williams.
The family prefers memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Church Radio Fund.
