MINNEWAUKAN -- Clarice Huffman, 75, Minnewaukan, died Aug. 2, 2001, in the Mandan hospital. Arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Minnewaukan.

Nora Lillevig
SHEYENNE -- Nora G. Lillevig, 90, Sheyenne, died Aug. 2, 2001, in a Carrington health center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Sheyenne. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne. She is survived by one son, C. Norman Jore, North East, Pa.; one daughter, Clarise Seastrand, Sheyenne; two stepsons, A.W. Lillevig, Falls Church, Va., and Earl Lillevig, Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Jared, Kenmare. (Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford)

Vera Nohr
Vera Nohr, 89, Bismarck, passed away peacefully Aug. 2, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Vera was born Feb. 17, 1912, in southern Minnesota, the daughter of Gilbert and Josephine (Skyora) Strickland. She received her education in Milner. Vera then married Harold H. Evans in November 1929 in St. Paul, Minn. Harold passed away in May 1943 and Vera married William Nohr in November 1945. William died in April 1976. Vera's professional career included working for the North Dakota Public Service Commission. She was awarded for her 22 years of commitment to our state's Public Service Commission. Vera loved painting, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family. She is survived by her two children, one daughter, Shirley Evans, Bismarck, and one son and daughter-in-law, David and Penny Nohr, Wasilla, Alaska; three grandchildren, Aleja-Laura Evans, Jennifer Nohr and David Nohr II; four great-grandchildren, Craig, Kendra, Colton and Kaitlyn; and one brother, William Strickland, Fargo. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; her parents; three brothers; and three sisters. We will miss you, our angel: mom, grandma, sister and friend.

Elden Pfennig
Elden Pfennig, 67, Phoenix, Ariz., died July 30, 2001, in a Phoenix care center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck. He is survived by two sons, Wade, Boise, Idaho, and Chad, Rhinelander, Wis.; one granddaughter; four sisters, Irma Morast, Bismarck, Elda Link, Washburn, Lorene Seiger, Tucson, Ariz., and Vera Blaisdell, Wenatchee, Wash.; and four brothers, Ervin, McClusky, and Melvin, Harold and Wilbur, all of Bismarck.

John Reuer
STEELE -- John Reuer, 89, Steele, died Aug. 3, 2001, in a Steele care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele, with the Rev. Paul Tjostem officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Memorial Chapel, Steele, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. John was born June 21, 1912, in Valley Township, Kidder County, to John and Magdalena (Schmeier) Reuer. He was raised and educated in Valley Township, leaving there in 1937. He married Emilea (Eichele) on July 10, 1937, in Napoleon. They lived for three years in Dawson and then moved to their farm near Steele in 1941. He is survived by his wife, Emilea; one brother, Fred; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Job and Beatrice Rau; and three brothers, Emil, Otto and Martin Reuer. The family prefers memorials to Woodlawn Cemetery, Golden Manor or the donor's choice.

Milford Smith
PARSHALL -- Milford L. Smith, 81, Parshall, died July 31, 2001, in a Parshall care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Rockview Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Parshall. Burial will be in the city cemetery. He is survived by one sister, Ollie Andes, Parshall. (Johnson Funeral Home, Parshall)

Edward Walther
LINTON -- Edward Walther, 84, Linton, died Aug. 1, 2001, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mary; one son, Leroy, Linton; one daughter, Julie Walther Dougherty, Tucson, Ariz.; six brothers, Herb, Linton, Kenny, Coon Rapids, Minn., Jacob, Winona, Minn., Ray, Lodi, Calif., Emmanuel, Bismarck, and William, Solen; two sisters, Etta Shermer, Kingston, Wash., and Ida Hewitt, Modesto, Calif. Charles Baumgartner
Charles P. Baumgartner, 57, Bismarck, died Aug. 3, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by four brothers, Adam and Walter, both of Hague, James, Reliance, S.D., and Joe, Bismarck. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Reuben Borth
HALLIDAY -- Reuben Borth, 86, Halliday, died Aug. 1, 2001, in the Hazen medical center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Halliday. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. He is survived by his wife, Leontina; three children, Ronald Borth, Halliday, Linda Quast, Hazen, and Linette Zabolotny, Rapid City, S.D.; three grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Kruckenberg, Tekeo, Wash., Hertha Lorenz, Salem, Ore., and Erna Isaak, Dickinson; and one brother, Adolph Borth, Spokane, Wash. Mildred Haluzak
Mildred A. Haluzak, 73, Bismarck, died Aug. 3, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital following a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck, followed by a reception at St. Anne School Gym. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Millie was born May 12, 1928, in Bismarck, to William and Agnes (Jeromchek) Melech. She was raised and educated in Bismarck and graduated from St. Mary's High School. She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 37 years, retiring as a supervisor. In 1948 Millie married Joe Haluzak in a three-day celebration at Wilton. After Joe was injured in a construction accident in 1964, Millie continued to raise their four children alone, passing on her good work ethics and morals. After her retirement Millie enjoyed crocheting, bingo and frequent trips to the casino with her sisters, the Three Musketeers, and especially with her nephew David Kulackoski. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Dick" and Ruby Haluzak, Bismarck; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joanie and Ron Werner, Helena, Mont., Joyce and Brad Rauch, Kalispell, Mont., and Jan and Tim Houn, Bismarck; one foster daughter, Erna Pleinis, Bowie, Md.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her mother, Agnes Melech, Bismarck; one brother, William (Mert) Melech Jr., Freemont, Calif.; six sisters, Dorothy and Pat Kraft, Arvilla "Honey" Ness, Mable and Willie Keller, Diane and Curt Wentz and Carol and Pat Fricke, all of Bismarck, and Sandy Highley, Mandan; one brother-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Haluzak, Santa Rosa, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Harrison Sherman and Rose Duma, all of Bismarck; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her father, William Melech; and a fiance, Al Heintz. The family would like to give great thanks to Great Plains Rehabilitation Services and Millie's special caregiver, Elaine Boozenny. Millie will be missed by her many friends and loved ones. We will miss you Mom.

Burial will be in the city cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Earl; her children, Earl Huffman, Sauk Rapids, Minn., Debbie Jones, Placerville, Calif., Rick Huffman, Crookston, Minn., Doug Huffman, Glendive, Mont., Nancy Visman, Camino, Calif., and Dick Huffman, Minnewaukan; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Douglas Dickinson, Lake Havasu City, Ariz. VALLEY CITY -- Lucille Hust, 83, Valley City, formerly of Jamestown, died Aug. 3, 2001, in a Sheyenne care center after a battle with lung cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Valley City. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Adeline Schwehr, Sanborn; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Hoerner, Missoula, Mont., Lawrence Hoerner, Almira, Wash., and Steve Hoerner, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and two sisters, Leona Boespflug, Bismarck, and Virginia Jarvis, Farmington Hills, Mich.
