Jack Morrell
Services for Jack Morrell, 50, Parker, S.D., will be held at 3 p.m. today at Faith Baptist Fellowship Church, Sioux Falls, S.D. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. today at the church. Jack James Eugene Morrell was born Aug. 14, 1950, at Mandan, to Dominick and Magdalena (Doll) Morrell. The youngest of 11 children, he went to grade school in St. Anthony and attended high school in Richardton and Mandan. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from December 1967 to January 1971. Jack received his electrical training at the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton and worked as an electrician for 10 years for United Power in Grand Rapids, Minn. In March 1982 Jack accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended Millar College of the Bible in Pambrun, Sask., Canada, and graduated in 1987. He taught at the Cohasset Christian School in Cohasset, Minn., for three years and worked construction before going back to Bismarck State College and receiving a degree in power plant technology in 1992. On Dec. 11, 1993, Jack was united in marriage to Sharon Hammond at Bracken, Sask., Canada. He moved to Sioux Falls in June 1993 and was employed with John Morrell and Co. as a boiler operator and refrigeration technician until he was forced to retire for health reasons. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sharon; three sons, Colton, Cruz and Kyle, all at home; one daughter, Dawndi and her fiance Rich, Rocklin, Calif.; three brothers, Leo and his wife Diana, Wheatland, Wyo., Martin and his wife Hildegarde, Mandan, and Larry and his wife Evelyn, St. Anthony; and four sisters, Josie Friesz and her husband Pete, Linda Berger and her husband Joe and Vivian Boehn and her husband Gene, all of Mandan, and Mary Schaaf, Sioux Falls, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers and sisters. Memorials may be given to Millar College of the Bible, Pambrun, Sask., Canada. (Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, S.D.)

Louise Sailer
HAZEN -- Louise Sailer, 87, Hazen, died Aug. 6, 2001, in the Hazen medical center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen. Further arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Adeline Schaeffer
ASHLEY -- Adeline Schaeffer, 90, Ashley, died Aug. 5, 2001, in the Ashley care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. Further arrangements are pending with Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Martin Severson
NEW ROCKFORD -- Martin L. Severson, also known as Dick Chapman, 76, New Rockford, died Aug. 4, 2001, in a New Rockford care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford. Burial will be in Grace City Cemetery, Grace City. He is survived by one niece, Joyce Johnson, Culbertson, Mont.

Sylvester Vivier
BELCOURT -- Sylvester P. Vivier, 74, Belcourt, died Aug. 5, 2001, in the Rolla medical center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, rural Belcourt. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by seven sons, Lyman, Cannon Ball, Gary, Bismarck, Glen, Grand Forks, Bryan, Belcourt, and Daryl, Dale and Sly, all of Mandan; four daughters, Carla Schroeder, Dunseith, Carleen Winfrey, Phoenix, Ariz., and Beverly Vivier and Gladys Azure, both of Mandan; 42 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank, Belcourt; and two sisters, Barbara Henry, Dunseith, and Theresa Henry, Bakersfield, Calif. Deekan Wold
PARSHALL -- Deekan Wold, the infant son of Tracey and Monica Wold, Parshall, died Aug. 6, 2001, in a Minnesota hospital. Arrangements are pending with Johnson Funeral Home, Parshall.

Mary Zehm
JAMESTOWN -- Mary L. Zehm, Jamestown, died Aug. 5, 2001, at her home. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Jamestown. Burial will be held at 8 p.m. MDT Wednesday in Mildred Cemetery, rural Terry, Mont. She is survived by her husband, Bob; and four children, Jackie Harmon, Valli Holland, Ed Zehm and Joni Steffens. SYKESTON -- Lawrence Zwinger, 88, Sykeston, died Aug. 4, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Sykeston. Further arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

John Bachmeier
NEW ROCKFORD -- John Bachmeier, 74, New Rockford, died Aug. 6, 2001, in a Carrington health center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by one son, Johnny, New Rockford; six sisters, Phyllis Duchscherer and Helen Christianson, both of New Rockford, Rose Kraft, Devils Lake, Eleanora Knoll, Selz, Frances Hammer, Jamestown, and Mary Nokleby, Parkersburg, W.V.; and three brothers, Richard, Sheyenne, James, Rockford, Ill., and Frank, New Rockford. NEW TOWN -- Meredith G. Baker, 58, New Town, was found dead Aug. 6, 2001, at his home. Arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Frank Baumstarck
LINTON -- Frank Baumstarck, 83, Linton, died Aug. 6, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by five sisters, Elizabeth Lesmeister, Rugby, Christine Streifel, Linton, Barbara Fix, Harvey, Mary Baumstarck, Hazen, and Anna Baumstarck, Bismarck. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Hollis Hoisveen
Hollis Hoisveen, 91, Bismarck, died Aug. 5, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Doan, Bismarck; and two granddaughters, Anastasia and Angela. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Paul Kurt
HAZEN -- Paul Kurt, 83, Hazen, died Aug. 6, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. David Suelzle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. MDT today at the church. Paul was born July 26, 1918, at Hazen, a son of Arnold and Lydia (Kerner) Kurt. He was raised south of Hazen on a farm. In April 1942, he began serving in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1945. He served in the European theater and Pacific theater as well as in Canada and Alaska. On July 18, 1970, Paul married Adina (Richter) Craig. He worked construction for many years and retired as a security guard for Basin Electric in 1983. Paul was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Adina; five children, Carlyle and Phyllis Bohrer, Mandan, Charles and Jane Craig, Beulah, Tim and Gail Craig, Peck, Idaho, Bruce and Deb Craig, Minneapolis, Minn., and Nancy and Chuck Robinson, Dallas, Texas; one son-in-law, Ray Maershbecker, Stanton; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold and Wanda Kurt, Kellogg, Idaho; one sister, Rose and Orville Fretty, Stanton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Claudette Maershbecker; his parents; two brothers, Alfred and Walter Kurt; and two sisters; Louise Olander and Mary Christianson. CARRINGTON -- John Overby, 88, Carrington, formerly of Binford, died Aug. 7, 2001, in a Carrington care center. Arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Sidney Pladson
Sidney M. Pladson, 77, Bismarck, died Aug. 6, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Dick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Sidney M. Pladson was born Nov. 13, 1923, in Hatton, one of 10 children of Magnus and Clara (Gulson) Pladson. He was raised and educated in Hatton. He served in World War II in the European theater in the Second Armored Division, "Hell on Wheels." He fought in several major battles including the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Sidney met and married Ann L. Evenson on May 29, 1954. They were married in Crookston, Minn. At the time of marriage Sidney and Ann lived in Hatton where Sidney was a grain buyer for Peavey Elevator Company. They moved several times, living in Lake Park and Twin Valley, Minn. In 1962 they moved to Bismarck where Sidney learned the tile and formica trade, securing a position with Vantine's Paint and Glass, where he continued to work for a number of years before retiring. In his retirement years he worked part-time for Magi-Touch of Bismarck. Sidney was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ann L. (Evenson) Pladson; two daughters, Kim A. Pladson, Fargo, and Kay and her husband Jim Stout, Williston; one son, Jon E. Pladson and his wife Joan, Long Beach, Calif.; three granddaughters he loved dearly, Kristen and Lori Beth Mimnaugh and Bethany Pladson; and one brother, Ronald D. Pladson, Texarkana, Texas. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Clifford Rader
DEVILS LAKE -- Clifford J. Rader, 75, Devils Lake, formerly of Starkweather, died Aug. 6, 2001, in the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Anna; two daughters, Bernice Overby, Lakeville, Minn., and Charlotte Halvorson, Mylo; two sons, James, Fargo, and Robert, Bismarck; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Freda Fugle, Portland, Ore., and Eva Bulman, Michigan. She is survived by three daughters, Sarah Ringuette, Mandan, Louise Harshman, Jamestown, and Sharon Zeller, Anoka, Minn.; three sons, Harold, San Antonio, Texas, Ronald, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and John, Jamestown; 52 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Frieda Waltz
MCCLUSKY -- Frieda Waltz, 78, McClusky, died Aug. 6, 2001, in the Mandan hospital. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Leroy Werner
MENOKEN -- Leroy "Tubby" Werner, 59, Menoken, died Aug. 6, 2001, in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. David Swonger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Tubby was born July 31, 1942, in Bismarck, to Joseph and Leona Werner. He attended St. Mary's Grade School from 1948 to 1956 and later attended Bismarck High School. On Sept. 14, 1963, he married Sandy Gomke in Carson. Tubby was the security manager for the K-Mart store in Bismarck from the day it opened until 1978. He was the co-owner and vice president of Bismarck-Mandan Security Inc. and was very active in running it until his illness. Tubby enjoyed hunting, fishing, making fishing tackle, watching his favorite shows and spending time with his family. He was greatly loved and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; one son, James Werner, Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Teresa and Joe Madche and Holly Werner, all of Menoken; one sister, Kathy Werner Erhardt, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Bonnie Werner, Mandan; numerous nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends; and his heart-adopted grandchildren, Meghan, Dalton and Tyler, who called him grandpa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Leona Werner; and one brother, Robert "Bob" Werner.
