WILLISTON -- Dewey E. Williams, 84, Williston, died March 19, 2000 in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at First Union Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Jackie, Williston; his children, Catherine Wagenman, Orem, Utah, Penny Borg, Bismarck, Steve, Minneapolis, and Al, Williston; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Albert Zeller
BEULAH -- Albert Zeller, 76, Beulah, died March 20, 2000 in a Sacramento, Calif. hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Friday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. Visitation hours will be from 4-8 p.m. MST Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Matthew Burling
WISHEK -- Matthew Alan Burling, 19, Wishek, died March 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. Further arrangements are pending at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Gotthielf Daschendorf
ASHLEY -- Gotthielf Daschendorf, 91, Ashley, died March 20, 2001, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley.

He is survived by one son, Roy, Hope; one daughter, Lyla Daschendorf, Rolette; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. (Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley)

Harold Hall
DRISCOLL -- Harold C. Hall, 78, Driscoll, died March 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Driscoll, with the Rev. Jo Olson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Steele, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight.

Harold was born Sept. 6, 1922, at Sterling, to Earl and Helga (Schancke) Hall. He lived in that area and attended school there. In December 1942 he went into the U.S. Army serving as a tank commander in the Third Armored Division Company G in Europe. He was the only one in Company G to survive the war. He was discharged on Nov. 19, 1945.

On June 5, 1946, Harold married Verna Koon of Driscoll, where they have lived all of their married life. Together they owned and operated Hall's Garage for 50 years where they sold Standard Oil products, later known as Amoco products, and overhauled anything that didn't work -- no challenge too big to tackle, often fixing something no one else could. Harold drove the school bus for Driscoll, Sterling and McKenzie schools for over 30 years and was a rural mail carrier for Driscoll, Sterling and McKenzie for a total of 40 years.

Harold was a life member of the AmVets, American Legion and VFW. He is a member of the survivor's of the Battle of the Bulge. He served on the Township Board and Cemetery Board, a member of Rural Mail Carriers Association, Driscoll Men's Club and Grace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Verna of 54 years; three sons and their wives, Danny and Vivian, Bowman, Wallace and Neva, Laurel, Mont., and Bryan and Kim, Bismarck; three grandchildren, Danette and Gene Loder, Lisa and Robert Candrian and Walter Hall; one great-grandson, Jonah Candrian; and one sister, Lillian Dronen, Steele.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl; his mother, Helga; three sisters, May, Adelaide and Beatrice; and two brothers, Earl and Wesley.

Emma Hoyt
BEULAH -- Emma Hoyt, 90, Beulah, died March 21, 2001, in a Beulah care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST today at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Kris Nyman officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery.

Emma was born March 21, 1911, in Beulah, a daughter of Karl and Rosina (Geiszler) Heihn. She was raised and attended school in the Beulah area. At age 19 Emma left for Chicago where she worked for Plumb Tool Company for 27 years.

In September 1969 Emma married Earl Hoyt of Chicago and they returned to Bismarck to retire. Earl died in 1995. In 1997 Emma moved to the School House Apartments in Beulah, where she immensely enjoyed her new surroundings and special friend, Katherine Helm.

Emma enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading and working on puzzles with her friends at the School House Apartments. She will be remembered always for her excellent homemade noodles and her chicken eilaf soup.

Recently Emma became a resident of Knife River Care Center in Beulah. She died peacefully in her sleep on her 90th birthday.

She is survived by one stepson and his wife, Ron and Noreen Hoyt, Chicago; two sisters, Pauline Rueb and Alvina McLaughlin, both of Beulah; two sisters-in-law, Martha Heihn, Beulah, and Freida Heihn, Bismarck; many nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Renae Bourdeaux, Grand Forks, and Denise, Ron and Doug Roethlisberger, all of Mandan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents; four brothers, Fred, Ted, Otto and Herb Heihn; and three sisters, Hilda Lippert, Freda Andres and Tillie Schwede. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Jerald Huber
Jerald J. Huber, 58, Bismarck, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died March 20, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital after a short battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton, with the Rev. Fred Henkelmann officiating. Burial will be in Linton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Jerald was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Bismarck, the son of Jacob and Alvina (Beck) Huber. He was educated at Linton, graduating from Linton High School in 1960. He married Carol Gimbel, June 24, 1962, in Hazelton. They lived and farmed northwest of Linton. He also owned and operated Jerry's Septic Tank Service. He sold the farm in 1985. Jerry then went to work for Northwest Airlines in several different locations. He received his 15-year recognition certificate from Northwest Airlines.

Jerry was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and Linton Lions Club. He served on the church council, Temvik Elevator Board and Linton School Board. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Grateful to have shared his life are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jamie and Sheryl, St. Michael, Minn., Jon and Shannon, Bismarck, and Jason, Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and David Goldade, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Justin and Nathan; his mother, Alvina Huber, Linton; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Don and Rena, Tremont, Ill., and Jim and Clara, Mandan, and Pat Huber, Linton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn and Leon Gunia, New Hope, Minn., and Maureen and Dick Jacobson, Brooklyn Center, Minn.; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Kenneth.

Kathryn Kary
DICKINSON -- Kathryn B. Kary, 76, Dickinson, died March 19, 2001, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, Doug, Billings, Mont., Bryan, Baker, Mont., and Bruce, Dickinson; three daughters, Corinne Wolberg, Bonnie Foss and Susan Hibl, all of Dickinson; two sisters, Charlotte Woods, Salem, Ore., and Rita Klym, Springfield, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Wendell Kelley
Wendell W. "Buster" Kelley, 82, Mandan, formerly of Minot and Fargo, died March 21, 2001, in his daughter's home in Mandan. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Brethren Church, Bismarck, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Wendell was born April 4, 1918, at Ryder, the seventh of eight children born to Simon Russell and Mary Amanda (McNair) Kelley. A graduate of Ryder High School, Wendell married Lucille Irene Torgerson on March 4, 1939, in Minot. He worked in Minot painting cars for the Frosaker Motor Co. from 1939-1957, and from 1957-1972 at the office of Dr. Lambert fitting glasses. After Dr. Lambert retired in 1972, Buster and Irene moved to Fargo where he fitted glasses in the offices of Dr. Hawn and also of doctors Fercho and Bagen. Irene died in March 1988. In 1993, Buster moved to Mandan, and in 1996, moved into the home of his daughter, Mary Schmidt.

Buster was an honorable man to whom family meant everything. Always aware of the joy and humor in life, he conveyed that feeling to everyone he met.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul D. and Marie, Leonard, and Bruce A. and Liz, Salem, Ore.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann M. Kelley and Bruce Walla, Rochert, Minn., and Mary A. and Craig Schmidt, Mandan; four grandchildren, Fuzzy Barajas and her husband, Mike, Scotts Valley, Calif., and Ryan J., Brandon C. and Kelley J. Schmidt, all of Mandan; two great-grandchildren, Jewels and Goldie Barajas; and one sister, Vera Stordal, Minot.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; an infant son, Billy; two sisters; and four brothers.

Buster's family prefers memorials to Immanuel Christian School in Mandan.

Alice Kettleson
Alice Kettleson, 87, died March 19, 2001, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Edwin Klundt
GACKLE -- Edwin Klundt, 84, Gackle, died March 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Church of Christ, Gackle, with burial in Gackle Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie; three daughters, Linda Kovell, Champaign, Ill., and Adella Schick, Bismarck; one sister, Lillian Lehr, Jamestown; one brother, Reuben, Gackle; and six grandchildren. (Haut Funeral Home, Gackle)

Evelyn Larsen
DICKINSON -- Evelyn Gallup Larsen, 90, Dickinson, died March 23, 2001, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. MDT Friday at New England Assembly Church of God, with burial in New England Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Walter, Orinda, Calif.; four daughters, Karen Lupo, Dickinson, June Beck, Mandan, Jereine DeYoung, Muskegon, Mich., and EvaLee Larsen, Great Falls, Mont.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. (Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

John Lund
John Max Lund, 71, Bismarck, died March 22, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Oscar Mathison
HARVEY -- Oscar Mathison, 90, Harvey, died March 21, 2001, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, with burial in St. Paul Cemetery, rural Harvey.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; two daughters, Darlene Roble, Harvey, and Shelley Eslinger, Roseville, Minn.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Louis Matz
ELGIN -- Services for Louis M. Matz, 89, Elgin, will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Saturday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott, with the Rev. Kuriakose Nediakala officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by Taylor-Skartvedt American Legion Post 71 of Mott.

Serving as casketbearers are Paul Brucker, Clay Koenig, Roger Erhardt, Shane and Wayne Yates, and Joshua Heuther.
Louis M. Matz was born July 25, 1911, at Odense, to Louis and Elizabeth (Martin) Matz. At age 2, he moved to Mandan with his family where he attended school and later worked on the Northern Pacific Railroad from 1937 to 1942. Louis was inducted into the U.S. Army during World War II and served from January 19, 1942, to December 4, 1945. He earned several medals in the Alaskan and Phillipine campaigns. He then worked for John Larson Construction Co. at Mott, and later for the Milwaukee Railroad from 1961 until retiring in 1976.

Louis was united in marriage to Josephine Helen (Scharosch) Yates Krause on June 23, 1950, at Mott. They lived in Mott for many years. Josephine died on Nov. 24, 1985, and Louis continued to live in Mott until moving to Dakota Hills at Elgin in 1997.

He passed from this life on March 20, 2001, in the Elgin hospital at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 25 days.

Surviving family members include his stepdaughter, Mary Brucker, Mandan; one stepson and three step-daughters-in-law, Charles and Jacqueline Krause, Mandan, Blythe Yates, Mott, Elizabeth Yates, New England; 14 step-grandchildren; five sisters, Tillie Bahm and Albertine Boehm, both of New Salem, Mary Mildenberger, Chula Vista, Calif., Ann Jundt, Denver, Stella Jundt, Bismarck; and one sister-in-law, Beverly Matz, Devils Lake.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine; three stepsons, John, Frank and Robert Yates; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Pat and William Heuther; two sisters, Catherine and Rosemary; two brothers, Matt and Nick; and three infant brothers.

Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. today and 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott.
