Edward Moore Sr.
Edward "Ed" Moore Sr., 70, died March 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Yates, with the Rev. Terry Wipf officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

A wake service will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday at the old gym in Fort Yates. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church.

Ed was born July 24, 1930, in Fort Totten, the son of Samuel and Mary (King) Moore. Ed is a Purple Heart veteran of the Korean War, as well as receiving a Bronze Medal. He served in the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division from 1948-1952 as a sergeant first class stationed in Japan and Korea. He received an honorable discharge in 1952.

Ed first moved to Standing Rock in 1959 as a police officer and later the chief of police until 1965. In 1966, Ed moved to California to receive training as a vocational instructor and worked as a vocational instructor in Berkeley, Calif. until 1971. Ed and his family moved back to North Dakota where he worked at United Tribes Technical College from 1971-1984 as a vocational instructor.

In 1985, Ed returned to Standing Rock Indian Reservation and began working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) as an education aid in Fort Yates. In 1988, the BIA honored Ed with a "Special Achievement Award" for working with the youth.

Ed had been known for his work with the youth. He had worked in organizing youth activities for over 40 years. He was involved in various youth organizations, namely the Boy Scouts, Boxing Clubs, YMCA's and Little Britches Rodeos.

In 1962, he was the only Native American honored with a Silver Scout Award, one of the highest awards offered by the Boy Scouts of America. He received this award for organizing a Boy Scouts Jamboree for over 1200 Boy Scouts.

Ed was a North Dakota Golden Gloves Champion and Upper Midwest Champion in 1960-1961 and 1961-1963. In 1978, Ed was honored by the Golden Gloves Organization as the "Man of the Year." He had received numerous coaching awards and recognition from various organizations, such as, the VFW, American Legion, Elks Club and Moose Club.

Ed was married to Ella for 47 years. They were both honored by the Governor of the state of Montana as "Senior Citizens of the Year" in 1996 for their work with the people of Montana, including the elderly and the youth. Ed and Ella lived in Beaver Creek, Mont., where he was the director of the Beaver Creek Youth Ranch for the past 10 years. In 1999, he was named an honorary graduate of Sitting Bull College in Fort Yates.

He was very proud of the four grandsons that he and Ella raised, Kelly P. Moore, Patrick R. Moore, Cheyenne K. Weddell and Elias R. Moore.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae; sisters, Irene Gonder and Grace Belgard, both of Bremerton, Wash.; sons, Edward B. Moore Jr. and his wife, Dawn Moore, Fort Belknap, Mont., Samuel M. Moore, Fort Yates, Raymond H. Moore Sr. and his wife, Cynthia Moore, Fort Yates, and Kelly P. Moore, Bismarck; daughters, Rosie Zavala, Bremerton, Audrey and her husband, Wayne Healey, Fort Belknap, Anita Moore, Fort Belknap, Tamara Moore, Bismarck, Lisa and her husband, Wally Henry, Ft. Yates, and Michelle and her husband, George Beatty, Anadarko, Okla.; 33 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samual and Mary Moore; his brothers, Rex, Gary and Patrick Moore; and one sister, Helen Pittman.

Evelyn Sanderson
NEW ROCKFORD -- Evelyn Sanderson, 83, Fargo, died March 22, 2001, in a Fargo care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Alvin Vossler
WISHEK -- Alvin E. Vossler, 76, Wishek, died March 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Further arrangements are pending at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.

Kevin Weiler
DICKINSON -- Kevin Weiler, 53, Dickinson, died of a massive heart attack, March 18, 2001, in the Black Hills. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST today at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; one son, Todd, Dickinson; one daughter, Kristie, Dickinson; two brothers, Cornelius, Dickinson, and Adrian, Bowman; and one sister, Collette Zimmerman, Dickinson. (Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Bonnie Zempel
Bonnie Zempel, 58, Mandan, died March 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital after a long battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Martha Brandner
Martha Brandner, 89, Mandan, died March 20, 2001, in the Mandan care center. Services were held March 24 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Jesse, Bismarck; one daughter, Elizabeth Reinpold, Mandan; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

William Carrick
William Carrick, 94, Mandan, died March 24, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at American Lutheran Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Phyllis Connolly
Phyllis Connolly, 72, Bismarck, died March 22, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Hulda Fiechtner
WISHEK -- Hulda Fiechtner, 90, Wishek, died March 23, 2001, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Lehr, with burial in King Cemetery, Lehr.

She is survived by two sons, Marvin, Wishek, and Ralph, Jamestown; one daughter, VerDella Jackson, Vista, Calif.; one brother, Lawrence Koenig, Fargo; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

Kailey and Kaitlynn Gullickson
Kailey Lynn and Kaitlynn Ann Gullickson, the twin daughters of Dustin and Jodi Gullickson, died on March 22 and March 23, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. A private prayer service will be held at Eastgate Funeral Service.

They are survived by their parents; their grandparents, Merrell and Vicki Hoveskeland, Bismarck, and Wayne and Debbie Gullickson, Cody, Wyo.; and their great-grandparents, Omar and Etta Hoveskeland, McVille, Gordon and Mavis Gullickson, Bismarck, and Mavis Thornberg, Sidney, Mont.

They were preceded in death by their maternal great-grandparents, Walter and Mary Lesmeister.

Connie Job
DAWSON -- Connie Rae Job, 53, Dawson, died March 23, 2001, in her home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with burial in Napoleon Cemetery.

Connie is survived by her husband, Leroy; one son, Brian, Wishek; one daughter, Jennifer Job, Bismarck; one grandson; her mother, Evelyn Wolf, Napoleon; and one brother, Larry Wolf, Kintyre. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon)

Alice Kettleson
Alice Caroline Kettleson, 87, a 45-year resident of Bismarck, died of natural causes March 19, 2001, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was born June 6, 1913, to Oscar and Hilma (Sandvik) Johnson in Fairdale.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Alice married Jennings Kettleson on Dec. 2, 1934.

Mrs. Kettleson was a Sunday school superintendent, a waitress and a nurse's aide at the Bismarck hospital for 26 years.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed singing, helping others, and had a positive influence on everyone she touched.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice Clark, Waterloo, Iowa, and JoAnn Houser, Olympia, Wash.; three sons, Gerald, Bismarck, Gordon, Charles City, Iowa, and Ronald, Olympia, Wash.; two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three grandsons; her mother; her father; one sister; two brothers; two nieces and two nephews.

Gabriel Miller
Gabriel Miller, 84, Bismarck, died March 23, 2001, in the Mandan care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. CST Tuesday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with the Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. MST Tuesday in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Raleigh.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. CST Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Gabriel was born March 1, 1917, at Raleigh, the son of Egidius and Nathalia (Volk) Miller. He was raised and educated in Raleigh. Gabriel married Philomena Ternes at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Raleigh. He farmed all of his life south of St. Gertrude's and retired to Bismarck in the fall of 1979.

Gabriel was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church until his retirement to Bismarck when he became a member of the Church of the Ascension.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Marlene and Frank Schafer, Huron, S.D., Miles and Brenda Miller, Raleigh, Vernetta Banning, Glenallen, Alaska, Roger and Melissa Miller, Bismarck, Sheila and David Bruner, Grand Forks, James Miller, Frenchtown, Mont., and Luella and Rand Allgaier, Syracuse, N.Y.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Isador Miller, Flasher, Adolph and Margaret Miller, Bismarck, and Mike and Theresa Miller, Raleigh; one sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and T.N. Lonning, Lennox, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Bryan Schafer, Michelle Schafer Loecker, Amanda Miller, Nevada Miller, Emi and Sevda Banning, Justin Rogstad, Kendra and Zane Miller, Tyler, Lance and Scott Bruner, and Ryan Miller; one great-grandchild, Joshua Loecker; two sisters-in-law, Ann Reihl, Watauga, S.D., and Anna Miller, Raleigh; eight brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law, Al and Alvina Lenneiville, Spearfish, S.D., Ex and Marie Ternes, McIntosh, S.D., Emil and Angie Ternes, Milton, Wash., Jim and Darlene Soucy, Fargo, Val and Mary Fettig, Blaine, Minn., and John and Margie Leintz, Bismarck; and two brothers-in-law, Lambert Miller, Bismarck, and Baldwin Gross, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Philomena; two children, Vernetta Rufina and Anthony Miller; one brother, Peter E. Miller; one sister, Rufina Gross; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Phillip and Appy Volk, Regina Miller, Gertrude Miller, Jack and Teresa Stewart and Bernadette Shelton; and his special friend, Regina Hager.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Shiloh Christian School, Bismarck, and Special Olympics.
