Yee during World War II, in which he served in the U.S. Army as sergeant and received an honorable discharge. He later owned a large Chinese-American restaurant in Detroit for 20 years, in which Jane was a good helpmeet. Jane also worked part time as a switchboard operator -- a job she also loved because she was so gregarious. She had a terrific memory in which she had to know 400 city offices and departments as a switchboard operator. She was very talkative and everyone enjoyed visiting with her. Jane always had a good listening ear when people called her with their problems and she consoled them. She had a dry sense of humor and was compared to the comediennes Carol Burnett and Lucille Ball. If people asked her to pray for them, "because you have a direct line to God," her response was, "I will, but sometimes the line is busy." Jane's husband died in 1983, she moved in September 1987, at the invitation of her son-in-law, to the San Francisco Bay area of California to live with them. She moved with them from California in May 1989, to North Dakota. Jane loved California and it took her many years adjusting to North Dakota. However, she was very resilient and adaptable. Jane also had a strong faith in God. She was a good mother and friend and will be sadly missed by her daughter, Marian, and her many friends and acquaintances. However, she is now within the loving arms of Christ, her Savior and Lord. Her only child, Marian M. Steinbach, Bismarck, survives her.
