Eleanor Webb
Eleanor Webb, 75, Waynesboro, Penn., died March 2, 2000 in a Hagerstown, Md. hospital. Services will be held 10 a.m. today, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro, with burial in the church cemetery.
Eleanor was born on May 30, 1924 in St. Anthony, she was the daughter of the late Nicklaus V. and Susie (Braun) Helbling. She lived her early life in St. Anthony, moving to Mandan in 1937. She and her husband, Mr. Albert Francis Webb, were married on Feb. 18, 1946 in Waynesboro. They have lived at the present residence for 31 years. For the past year while she was ill, Mrs. Webb lived with her daughter, Dorothea Peters.
Mrs. Webb was employed as a short order cook first at J.J. Newberry Co., Waynesboro in 1964-65, and then at McCrory's Waynesboro. Prior to retiring in 1978, she was employed at Joe and Motorist's Friend, Waynesboro as a sales clerk.
She was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church and the former St. Andrew Council of Catholic Women, both of Waynesboro. She was also a member of Knights of Columbus Ladies, William Max McLaughlin VFW Post No. 695 Auxiliary, Elks Lodge No. 731 Auxiliary, Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary and South Chapter No. 2977 AARP, all of Waynesboro, and National AARP.
She was a volunteer at the Waynesboro Hospital and at Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Penn. For 50 years, she was an avid player in a bi-weekly card club at the Waynesboro Elks Club. She also enjoyed playing bingo. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Webb is survived by one daughter, Dorothea M. Peters, Waynesboro; one son, David A. Webb, Bloomington, Minn., three grandchildren, Kelly Leib, Mt. Holly Springs, Penn.; and Scott Peters and Kara Peters, both of Waynesboro; one sister, Loretta Brady, Bismarck; two brothers, Bill Helbling, Mandan, and Bob Helbling, Fargo; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed Helbling and Leo Helbling.

NEW ROCKFORD -- Marcella M. Allmaras, 96, New Rockford, died May 16, 2000 in Hastings, Minn., care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford. Further arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Shawn C. Conrad
Shawn C. Conrad, 30, Dunham, N.C., formerly of Reeder, died May 13, 2000 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday, at Reeder Congregational Church, with burial in Reeder Cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Keith and Carole Conrad, Rapid City, S.D.; two brothers, Daryl Conrad, Boston, Mass., and Dean Conrad, Milwaukee, Wis. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Tony C. Faul
HARVEY -- Tony C. Faul, 85, Harvey, died May 17, 2000 in a Harvey nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Hubert F. Kouba
MOTT -- Hubert F. Kouba, 82, Mott, died May 16, 2000 in the Mott care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Friday, at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Regent, with burial in Regent Cemetery. He is survived by two brothers, Dennis, Regent, and Larry, Burt, N.D.; and three sisters, Marcy Auen and Helen Leidal, both of Mott, and Harriet Lampel, Nevis, Minn. Katherine Kuhn
Katherine Kuhn, 93, 1303 First St. NW, Mandan, died May 15, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation begins Friday from 1-9 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a parish rosary at 7 p.m. followed by the parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. Katherine Braun was born March 14, 1907 in Odessa, Russia. She was the daughter of John and Eva (Kopp) Braun. She came to America with her parents and was raised and educated in Mandan. On April 9, 1929 she married Frank Kuhn in Mandan. She worked at the Country Club and 16 years at the Mandan Elks. Katherine was a member of the St. Maria Verein, Christ the King Unit 10 Circle, Country Club Bridge Club, Powder Puff Bridge Club and Bunco Club. Katherine enjoyed crocheting, crafts and embroidery which she shared with many family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Frank; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Delbert, Mandan, and David (Helen), Ellensburg, Wash.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cora (Joe) Razore and Rita (Bob) Doll, all of Bellingham, Wash., and Angie (Art) Ells, Walla Walla, Wash.; 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Braun, Olympia, Wash., and Leo Braun, Philadelphia, Penn.; and two sisters, Gertrude Kuhn and Eva Emil, both of Mandan. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and four sisters. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Bert Norton
NEW SALEM -- Bert Norton, 84, New Salem, died May 15, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. At the time of his death he was surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Friday at Peace Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in Peace Cemetery, New Salem. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue one hour before services at the church. Bert was born May 7, 1916, on a farm three miles south of New Salem, the son of Harley and Emma (Zarndt) Norton. He spent his early life on the home farm and received his education in New Salem. He worked for farmers and ranchers throughout the area and spent some time in the Civilian Conservation Corps and on the West Coast. He returned to the home farm, and in 1936 Bert and his brothers began mining coal. In 1939, Bert took over the family farm. On Jan. 1, 1942, he married Louise Weiss at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in New Salem. Bert farmed and had a dairy herd until he and Louise moved into New Salem in 1974. He continued active participation in farm operations until his health prevented him from doing so. He served on the boards of the Farmers Union Elevator, the Famers Telephone Co. and Engelter Township. He was also a member of the Peace Church Council. He will be particularly remembered for his compassion and willingness to assist those in need. He enjoyed working with wood. But Bert's true love was his family, which he always placed above all else. Next to family was his love of the land and his farm. He truly appreciated nature and the beauty of God's world. Bert is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Louise; his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Norman Toman, Ft. Collins, Colo.; his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Diane, New Salem; five grandchildren, Becky Ritter, Fort Collins, Karen Becker and her husband, Darcey, New Salem, Bret Toman and his fiance, Tina Sutton, Nisswa, Minn., Tara Toman, Dallas, Texas and Julie Norton and her fiance, Jeff Vyska, New Salem; seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Gerving, Tasha, Clark Allen, Katie and Hannah Ritter and Ashley and Jennifer Becker; two sisters, Evelyn Rigney and Nina Filibeck, both of New Salem; his brother, Dallas and his wife, Ruby; his brother-in-law, Arthur Weiss and his wife, Gen; his sisters-in-law, Eileen Gaebe and her husband, Bill, Elda Weiss, all of New Salem, and Loretta Daniels, St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bill and Ed; his sisters, Helen Ulmer and Beverly Olson; and his granddaughter, Wendy Norton.

Ray O'Hara
Ray O'Hara, known as "RB" to family and friends, passed away on May 15, 2000 in Bismarck following a courageous battle with ALS. At the time of his death, he was in the comany of his loving wife and several of his 13 children. A prayer service will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will take place at the North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, south of Mandan. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service. Ray Barrnett O'Hara was born on June 6, 1922 to Jerry and Elizabeth O'Hara in Goodwin, S.D. He had no brothers or sisters but was surrounded with a large extended family. His mother died when Ray was nine years old, and his favorite surrogate mother, a neighbor named Mrs. O'Brien, provided support as he grew up. He met his future-bride, Bernice Mary Bohls, from nearby Waverly, S.D. during his high school years, where he excelled in academics and sports. Following graduation, he attended college for one year. In 1941, he joined Standard Oil in Sioux Falls, S.D. He married Bernice on June 7, 1942 and enlisted in the Army in November 1942. During WWII, he proudly served with the 12th Armored Division and participated in the allied campaign through France and Germany in 1944. Following his tour of service, he resumed his career with Standard Oil, and eventually settled in Bismarck in the spring of 1961, as a regional sales manager. He was responsible for developing retail outlets in western North Dakota and eastern Montana. He retired in 1978 after 38 years of service. Many business associates became life-long friends. During his retirement years, he dedicated himself to his favorite passion, golf, as well as local and state organizations, including the Bismarck Economic Development Council, USA, North Dakota Economic Advisory Board, Meals on Wheels and the VFW. The priorities in Ray O'Hara's life were family and friends, his God, and his beloved country. Friends remember him for his Irish charm and hospitality, storytelling, and warm sense of humor. As a living legacy to his children, Ray and Bernice took all 13 children and nine spouses and family friends on a 10-day journey through the Emerald Isle to discover their Irish heritage. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Bernice, 13 children, 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. From Bismarck, he is survived by daughter, Patricia Smith, and grandchildren, Megan and Zachary, daughter, Jean Welder, son-in-law Thomas, grandchildren, Kathryn and Sean; daughter, Peggy Schwichtenberg, son-in-law Jack; daughter, Mary O'Hara-Geinert, and son-in-law, Craig. From Crary, he is survived by daughter, Julie Tronson, son-in-law Rick, and grandchildren Tucker and Alexa. From Dickinson, he is survived by son Dr. Brian, daughter-in-law Stacey, and grandchildren, Keaton and Kendall Ray. From Denver, he is survived by son Dennis, grandchildren, Steven, John and Patrick, and great-grandchild, Tanner York; daughter, Kathleen Seidel, son-in-law Ray, and grandchildren Ray Jr. and Scott; daughter, Carolyn Lyles, son-in-law, Dave, grandchildren Reed, Casey and Travis; son David and grandchildren, Mandy and Jeremiah; son James and granddaughter, Kayla. From St. Cloud, Minn., daughter Bridgette and granddaughter Channing; and from Dallas, son Dan, daughter-in-law, Sharon and grandchildren, Ryan and Molly. The family requests that memorials may be made to World War II Veterans' Memorial Fund.

Edith E. Olson
KILLDEER -- Edith E. Olson, 87, Killdeer, died May 16, 2000 in the Killdeer nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kllldeer. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, rural Killdeer. She is survived by two brothers, Arthur Wing, Redding, Calif. and Clifford Wing, Reedsville, Ore.; and one sister, Ruby Jensen, Hazen. Clara Sayler
GARRISON -- Clara Sayler, 82, Garrison, died May 17, 2000 in a Scobey, Mont., hospital. Arrangements are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Glenn William Schatz
Glenn William Schatz, 48, Thornton, Colo., and formerly of Bismarck, died May 14, 2000 in Thornton. Memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at Assumption Church, Thornton. He is survived by two sons, Jeremy and Bradley, both of Thornton; one daughter, April Schatz, Grand Junction, Colo.; one sister, Marla Bruno, Thornton; one brother, Randy, Mandan; and two grandchildren. Naomi Thornberg
ASHLEY -- Naomi Thornberg, 87, Ashley, formerly of Rutland, died May 16, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Nordland Lutheran Church, Rutland, with burial in Nordland Cemetery, rural Rutland. She is survived by one son, John, Cheyenne, Wyo.; one daughter, Claudette Kosel, Ashley; 30 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Merlin Staehnke, Tigard, Ore., and Clell Staehnke, St. Paul, Minn. Terry W. Wahl
Terry W. Wahl, 49, Bismarck, died May 15, 2000 in Michigan. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Robert Nordvall officiating. Terry William Wahl was born May 6, 1951 in Jamestown, the son of Norman and Grace (Bietz) Wahl. At the age of 3, Terry moved with his family to Bismarck. In 1962, the family moved to Beatrice, Neb., returning to Bismarck in 1967. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1969. After graduation, he attended Minot State College and University of North Dakota. He and Maureen McCall were married Sept. 5, 1981 in Bismarck. He was involved with land acquisition with various companies throughout the United States in the pipeline, fiber optics, oil and gas industries. He was currently employed with Michiana Land Services out of St. Joseph, Mich. Terry enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a fan of numerous other sports. He is survived by his wife, Maureen, Bismarck; one daughter, Sonja, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Vicki Wahl, Mandan; one sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and George Carman, Bellingham, Minn.; and four nieces, Jessica, Jolene, Wendy and Tracy. He was preceded in death by his parents. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Marjorie Edelbrock
Marjorie Edelbrock, 94, Mandan, died May 6, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Mandan, with the Rev. Jon Wall officiating. Burial will be in Harmon Cemetery, north of Mandan at 5 p.m. Monday. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday until the time of services at the funeral home. Marjorie Smith was born on Sept. 28, 1905 in Howard County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Oneta (Wilcox) Smith. Raised and educated in Howard County, she graduated from Crescoe High School in 1922 and from Upper Iowa University in 1926. She taught in Iowa and Missouri before moving to North Dakota in 1929. She married Ernest Edelbrock on May 28, 1942 in Mandan. They farmed north of Mandan and she continued teaching until her retirement in 1960. Majorie is survived by her sister, Bernice Smith, Santa Barbara, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, who died on April 1, 1990; her sister, Helen Lanz; and two brothers, Fred and Charles.

Ruben Frueh
HARVEY -- Ruben Frueh, 65, Harvey, died May 5, 2000 in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Bethel Baptist Church, Harvey, with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey. He is survived by his wife, Alice; his daughters, Linda Fergeson, Henderson, Nev., Nancy Bartz, Anamoose; his sons, David, Martin, Tim, Buffalo, and Curtis; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold, Harvey. John A. Hartman
DICKINSON -- John A. Hartman, 83, Dickinson, died May 6, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will hbe held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DIckinson. Further arrangements are pending with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Bertha Helm
Bertha Helm, 84, Mandan, died May 5, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Paul D. Fiske officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, both at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. There will be no visitation at the church. Bertha was born March 7, 1916 on a farm 18 miles south of Beulah, the daughter of Jacob and Magdaline (Keffler) Schilling. Bertha attended school in Beulah and worked for area farm families. She married Gustov Helm on Jan. 3, 1938 in Hazen. Following their marriage, they lived in Gascoyne and then moved to Mandan in 1955. Gustov died on Nov. 23, 1998. Bertha enjoyed gardening, sewing, and painting, but placed primary importance on her family. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Mandan. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gene G. and Nola, Las Vegas, Lesly D., Mandan, Charles "Chuck" and Cheryl, Mandan; one daughter, Arlene Helm, Grand Forks; five grandchildren, Sheron Helm, Michael Helm, Marla Belohlavek, Marrianne Helm and Christina Helm; three great-grandchildren, Stacey and Justin Belohlavek and Jamaal Helm; two sisters, Martha Goehring, Beulah, and Louise Gruzic, Chinook, Mont.; and one brother,r Jack Schilling, Montana. She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Albert, John and George; and two sisters, Freida and Pauline.

Carl W. Henke
LISBON -- Carl W. Henke, 88, Lisbon and formerly of Hannover, died May 2, 2000 in the Lisbon hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. James A. Baneck officiating. Burial will be in Hannover Cemetery with military honors provided by Miller-Linn American Legion Post 90, Center. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today and continue after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Carl W. Henke was born on Sept. 23, 1911 at Hannover the son of Louis and Bertha (Kemmisat) Henke. He worked for area farmers and was inducted into the Army on June 17, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis. He served in Africa, Italy and Germany, was captured and was a prisoner of war for 22 months. After the war, he had a 60-day recuperation leave and was released from active duty on Sept. 20, 1945, at Fort Warren, Wyo. He returned to the Hannover area where he worked on several farms. He entered the North Dakota Veterans' Home at Lisbon and continued returning to the New Salem and Almont area during the summer. He is survived by three sisters, Anna Kitzmann, Center, Bertha Bluder and Louise Szabo, both of Illinois; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Martin, Fred and a baby brother; and one sister, Mary Ann Henke.

B. Jayapathy
MINOT -- Dr. B. Jayapathy, 73, Minot, died May 4, 2000 in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Trinity Homes, Minot, with burial in a Marengo, Iowa cemetery at a later date. He is survived by his wife, Betty; his sons, Kris, Minneapolis and Raman, Eden Prairie, Minn.; one daughter, Shantha Jayapathy, Minneapolis; his brothers, Joganathan, Penang, both of Malaya, Malaysia; and Raji, Madras, India; and his sisters, Baby and Shandi, both of Madras.
