NAPOLEON -- Leah Caroline Schwartz, 87, Napoleon, died March 14, 2001, in a Bismarck care center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with burial in Napoleon Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Schwartz, Williston; and one brother, Walter Retzlaff, Napoleon. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon)

Marie Seibel
HARVEY -- Marie Seibel, 98, Harvey, died March 13, 2001, in the Harvey care center.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mennonite Brethren Church, Harvey, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Ralph, Fort Benton, Mont., and Wesley, Hillsboro, Kan.; two daughters, LaVella Faul, Harvey, and Janice Triebwasser, Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Boris Spelevoy
DUNN CENTER -- Boris Spelevoy, 84, Dunn Center, died March 13, 2001, in his home.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Tuesday at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Further arrangements are pending.

Glennis Thorson
Glennis Jeane Thorson, Farmington, Minn., passed away unexpectedly March 14, 2001, in her home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Farmington Lutheran Church.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at McClusky Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Glennis was born Aug. 10, 1935, at McClusky, the daughter of DeMott and Olivia (Hanson) Rhoads. Her McClusky childhood years were very special with music, cheerleading, sports and family. Glennis traveled to rural churches on Sundays as an organist with her pastor. She graduated from McClusky High School in 1953, with honors and later attended Jamestown College, Bismarck State College and Valley City State University, where she received her bachelors degree in business education.

Glennis and John O. Thorson Jr. were married Dec. 14, 1956. Together they lived and worked in Grand Forks until his graduation from the School of Law. They resided and practiced law in Enderlin and Valley City. She was a skilled legal assistant working in her husband's law office. Glennis was a parttime business instructor at Valley City State University and at the Valley City Vocational Center.

Glennis was a loving and devoted mother of three sons.

Together they especially enjoyed fishing and camping, yard and garden, sports and friends.

Glennis felt very blessed with her daughters-in-law and grandchildren, and loved them dearly.

She is survived by her husband, John; three sons and daughters-in-law, John O. III and Cathy Jo, Montgomery, Ill., Thomas A. and Barbara, Bismarck, and David R. and Sandi, Titusville, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; her mother, Farmington, Minn.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, O.D. and Gin Rhoads, and Arlo and Renee Rhoads; her sister, Eunice Petter, all of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

George Tininenko
BAINVILLE, Mont. -- George Tininenko, 98, Bainville, died March 14, 2001, in the Culbertson hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Everson Memorial Chapel, Williston, N.D., with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by two sons, Raymond, Williston, and David, Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Mary White, Williston, and Martha Edwards, Antioch, Calif.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four half-sisters, Dena Hammill and Elsie Neil, Spokane, Wash., Polly Wilde, Bainville, and Dorothy Matar, Yucaipa, Calif.

Albert Toman Sr.
Albert Charles Toman Sr., 73, 507 Ninth St. N.W., Mandan, died March 15, 2001, in his home.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with Allen Knoll officiating.

Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday and one hour before services at Perry Funeral Home.

Albert was born Aug. 8, 1927, at Bismarck, to Charles and Olga (Krutzner) Toman Jr.

He was raised and educated in Mandan, attended Pillsbury Military Academy, Owatonna, Minn., where he was appointed bugle corporal his first year, and graduated from high school in Provo, Utah, in 1947.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946.

He married Loretta V. Berger in Mandan on Feb. 23, 1949.

Albert worked and managed Royal Cleaners from 1946-1969, and then as a mine mechanic for Climax Mining Co., Leadville, Colo., until 1972.

Albert was a bugler for the VFW and Mandan and Bismarck Drum and Bugle Corps, and played for military funerals in the 1940s and early 1950s.

He was a lifetime member of VFW and AMVETS.

He also enjoyed woodworking, yard figures and stained glass.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Bonnie Heck, and Connie and Allen Knoll, all of Mandan; two sons, Albert Jr., Mercer, and Mark, Laguna Beach, Calif.; one brother, Howard, Bismarck; five grandchildren, April Vogel, Mandan, Brittany, Dustin, Elisa and David Knoll; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Te'a Vogel; and his adopted grandchildren, Matthew and Breana Foster.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Linda; and a sister-in-law, Betty.

Herman Vanourny
Herman D. Vanourny, 84, 1119 University Drive, died March 15, 2001, in his home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Herman was born March 30, 1916, at Ashley, to Charles and Katherine (Geiszler) Vanourny.

He was raised and educated in Ashley. Herman fought in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941-1945.

In September 1956, he married Hanna Wiedenmeyer in Beulah. He worked for Lunn Construction for 33 years as a general laborer.

He retired and began volunteering for the RSVP in 1980.

He is survived by his wife, Hanna; one son, Brian, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Alma Forbes.

Herman was preceded in death by three infant children; his brother, Richard; and his sister, Wilhemeina.

Roy Wahlstrom
SHEYENNE -- Roy H. Wahlstrom, 77, Sheyenne, died March 13, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; one son, David, Mapleton; one daughter, Peggy Malakowsky, Moorhead, Minn.; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and one brother, Dale, Panama City, Fla. (Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford)

Ena Wilkie
ROLLA -- Ena Wilkie, 95, Rolla, died March 13, 2001, in a Tacoma, Wash. care center.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Rolla, with burial in Rolla Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Gerry, Rolla, and Tom, Aberdeen, S.D.; two daughters, Margo Kaleva, Lacey, Wash., and Shirley Dunn, Olympia, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. (Niewoehner Funeral Home, Rolla)

Elmer Bates
Elmer A. Bates, 84, Joliet, Mont., died March 17, 2001, in Laurel, Mont. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. MST Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah.

He is survived by his wife, Opal; three daughters, Nicole Price, Billings, Mont., Shyla Sorrells, Joliet, Mont., and Robin Shaffer, Newport, Mich.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Irvine, Spearfish, S.D., Sherill, Springfield, Ore., Kenneth, Bowman, and Dale, Billings, Mont.; and two sisters, Florence Sailer, Beulah, and Esther Wallender, Beulah. Charles Battes
WILLISTON -- Charles Battes, 56, Williston, died March 17, 2001, in a Williston medical center.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Everson Funeral Home Chapel, Williston.

Burial will be held at a later date in Cow Creek Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; two daughters, Kristi and Kayla; two stepdaughters, Karene Chruszch and Kim Hudson; one grandson; and his father, Velmar.

Rudy Betz
GARRISON -- Rudy Betz, 93, Garrison, died March 19, 2001, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison. Burial will be in the city cemetery.

He is survived by one daughter, Lorraine Emil, Aurora, Colo.; five sons, Marvin, Bernalillo, N.M., Les, Belgrade, Mont., and Duane, Darryl and Allen, all of Garrison; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose Radie, Belgrade, Mont.; and two stepsisters, Irene Watkins and Frieda Brown, both of Bernalillo, N.M. (Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison)

Robert Dixon
MINOT -- Robert Dixon, 68, Minot, formerly of Anamoose, died March 18, 2001, in a Minot medical center.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

He is survived by four sons, David, Fort Collins, Colo., Larry, Bismarck, Ronald, Loveland, Colo., and Danny, Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Linda Diehl, Longmont, Colo.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Mabel Forschen, Anamoose.
